Everett, ESPN agree to long-term deal

While some of the other top-level talent is leaving ESPN, Neil Everett is set for at least another six years.

Everett, who considers Hawaii as much home as his native Oregon, agreed to a new contract recently. So did his partner at SportsCenter LA, Stan Verrett.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but it is believed Everett received a very significant raise.

“It all started in Hawaii,” said Everett, who started as a sports information director at Hawaii Pacific University in 1985 and later sports director at KGMB before joining ESPN in 2000. “I was able to learn at the local stations, and my success is a result of the aloha Hawaii’s people showed me while on the islands. What I gained paved my ESPN road. I’m a very fortunate man.”

Yes, Mr. Everett, you are fortunate man! But also one who has paid his dues, works so hard, and has earned the respect and admiration of we local folks. Glad we will be able to continue watching you at ESPN for many more years!
