Cornerback retires

Cornerback Anthony Pierce has been approved for a medical retirement.

Pierce, who joined as a grayshirt in January 2013, will remain on full scholarship. He is expected to work as a student assistant this season.

Pierce’s father is Antonio Pierce, who was an NFL linebacker for nine seasons. The elder Pierce is Long Beach Poly’s head coach.

Former offensive lineman Kiha Sai and defensive tackle Mike Andrade also are on scholarship after being approved for medical retirements.

I was at a craps tournament recently – 2 sessions of 3o rolls – and you begin with $1,000 in chips for each session – rule is 30 rolls maximum and it could very well be only one shooter!

tournament winner had amassed over $13,500 in chips – $5,000 first place – next time, will have to rethink my strategy —- me, I came in at 49th place with little over $1,400 in chips — my conservative mentality was my down fall

in both my sessions, I was next to a player who went all in by the 4th roll and lost – 1st guy put it on “don’t pass” for the 1st roll – yep, shooter rolled a “7” – 2nd guy, who said he did so “crappy” in the 1st round waited for 4th roll and put his $$$ on the pass line – yep, shooter crapped out!!!!!!!

for sure, the winner must have been bold and lucky — nearly all his/her bets were big and he/she won by placing $50 each on the “hard ways” or $100 on the “horn bet” or $100 on the 12 or 2 – pays 30 – 1

talking with the “game coordinator”, he tells me that once, in the second session, a table was really HOT – each participant won over $20,000 in chips – be smart, bet big, play your instincts.

So when players qualify for “medical retirement” they keep their athletic scholarship even though they won’t play again? Like if they’re a freshman, they would be on scholarship until they graduate 3-4 years later?

Would be interested in hearing the stories of these medical retirees. Concussions? Ligaments? Hope that they are happy with the medical retirement system.

  14. Stephen Tsai July 3, 2015 3:06 pm

    GSK:
Yes, that is true. A player’s scholarship is honored.
For instance, Aofaga Wily received a medical retirement because of a concussion. But I think he’s not enrolled in school, anymore, because he is taking care of his family.

  15. Stephen Tsai July 3, 2015 3:07 pm

Kiha Sai had a foot injury.
    Pierce has an abdominal problem.
Not sure what happened with Andrade .

  18. beans July 3, 2015 6:33 pm

    A-House,
What is the buy in for the $1,000 in chips? At the end of the tournament do you also keep the chips and redeem them for their value?

  19. kapakahi July 3, 2015 7:02 pm

    ST,

    Where’s Agasiva? Lavaka?

  20. A-House July 4, 2015 7:23 am

    beans #18:

there was NO “buy in” – each player is given $1,000 worth of playing chips for EACH session.

Orleans gives you 3 free nights of free room as an incentive to accept their invitation.

experience is no factor!!! little old ladies were “manning up” at the table – only invited guests are allowed to play during each 30 roll session.

  21. A-House July 4, 2015 7:25 am

    #21:

sorry, forgot to add — no, after each session your chip totals are added to determine winners – these are special minted chips used only for tournament play
