Croson

Been buried on other threads so let’s start fresh.

As we know, Croson hasn’t been with the sand team for a few weeks. It is not academic, it is not injury.

She is mulling over her options to stay or go. The only thing I can confirm is that the final decision will be hers.

Originally told there would be an announcement this week IF she were to leave. Have since been told that there will be no announcement. That is not to say this means she is staying, rather that other issues can complicate a transfer. So, for now, nothing to ‘report’ other than she is a Wahine at least through this semester.

As for the rumors that 1. she is transferring to Arizona. 2. because of her boyfriend.

Nothing I’ve been told points to that. And since I don’t know who the boyfriend is, can’t speak to the latter.

Fact is: UH plays Arizona this fall. Would wonder if she would be released to play there in that case. Shoji and Rubio are good friends but ….

Unfortunately we may never know the truth if she leaves. Programs tend to give a statement that neither puts blame on the program or the player which results in more rumors.

  2. LC April 24, 2013 10:17 am

Jane is the one who announced that she was in a relationship with a football player who she named. He is listed on the 2012 Arizona roster as being from Honolulu. He transferred to UH and is on the 2013 UH roster but no mention of Arizona as a previous school.

For me the rumor about transferring to Arizona because of a BF doesn’t make sense now because he is here.

VB fans didn’t seem to care about Hagins or Monica leaving but Jane will be different, they will want to know why.

  3. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 10:24 am

Thank you. Since I don’t follow student-athletes on twitter or become facebook friends until their eligibility is over, don’t know relationship statuses.
Agree we may never know the truth. and that fans will care more about Croson leaving. And that if the boyfriend is here that nixes the reason to transfer.

  4. Kazu April 24, 2013 11:43 am

Players come and go,but there is always someone else to take their place. Maybe Jane wants to transfer somewhere’s closer to home.

  5. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 11:58 am

I truly believe, it has nothing to do with academics, as Cindy mentioned, or her b/f. It has to do with a lot with Volleyball, mainly Sand/Beach Volleyball, then Indoor Volleyball. Croson knows after her collegiate eligibility is up her focal point will be as a Professional Beach player. Not being teamed with an experienced Sand player, and not being the number 1 duo, really disheartened Croson. I do not blame Jane Croson at all, I would be quite upset myself, if I were in her shoes. She is the best Sand/Beach volleyball player the Wahine have, and to put her with someone who has never played it before, is crazy.

  6. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 12:09 pm

Cindy, any chance Fred Lewis, or Dave Reardon, can look into this matter. They both tell it like it is, not worried about stepping on toes. Cause the sportswriters that cover both Indoor and Sand/Beach Volleyball, tend to sugar coat things, afraid of stepping on toes, henceforth, not saying what the real problem is.

  7. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 12:15 pm

Losing Jane Croson, will be an extremely BIG blow to the Indoor Team, this coming season. Especially, with the health of Hartong, Vorster, and Uiato, in question. There is no one on the Team, including incoming players, who can replace Jane Croson.

  8. Warriorfan April 24, 2013 12:28 pm

    Anyway Back to sane conversation.

Jane needs to do what makes HER happy if she is unhappy at UH then she needs to move on.

  9. LC April 24, 2013 12:29 pm

She was suspended just prior to the SDSU road trip. She has since been given an opportunity to return but it comes with a price as it did the last time. The deal is, you can accept the terms or transfer, the decision is yours.

I’m sticking with this because of something said by one of her teammates just prior to flying out to SD but as I said before you won’t get the real story from the program.

  10. Robin April 24, 2013 12:30 pm

I surmise that without relaxation…sometimes athletic performance suffers…

  11. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 12:31 pm

Warriorfan, the BIG QUESTION is, what is causing Jane Croson to be unhappy. My feeling is, it has a lot to do with SW.

  12. Warriorfan April 24, 2013 12:31 pm

    9. I don’t think you will get the real story from trolling one of her teammate’s twitter accounts either.

  13. LC April 24, 2013 12:33 pm

LOL I’m betting you saw it also WF.

  14. Warriorfan April 24, 2013 12:40 pm

My gut feeling is that she is just burnt out.
She has been playing volleyball non stop for soo long and I think she has lost the passion for the game.
    It happens.

  15. Warriorfan April 24, 2013 12:49 pm

If she does transfer I could see her going to a less demanding program so Arizona would make sense.

  16. jimmy the lock April 24, 2013 12:52 pm

Someone doesn’t know the difference between a reporter or beat writer vs. a columnist.

The beat writer reports an event objectively whereas the columnist gives opinions. The columnist opinions are usually their own and is supposedly based on accurate information. The columnist has more leeway than a reporter and oftentimes is not limited to impartial reporting.

So yeah, Cindy, Stephen, and the other beat writers report objectively while Ferd and Dave can dig and report what they think.

Jane gotta do what Jane gotta do. No more, no less.

  17. LC April 24, 2013 12:56 pm

This is a job for Keoki Kerr Investigates. 🙂

  18. jimmy the lock April 24, 2013 1:09 pm

    Good one LC.

  19. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 1:26 pm

Steve, it has nothing to do with Scott Wong. I have told you to quit blaming him. She did not get suspended from the indoor team because of him. And it’s not the reason now.
    JUST LET IT GO.
As for ‘telling it like it is” I am neither the beat writer nor a columnist.
We offer the blog as a courtesy to fans because of the interest in the programs and sport.
I post what I am comfortable posting.
If you don’t care for the way it is, you can stop reading the blog.

  20. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 1:28 pm

as for not stepping on toes. that is not true. have left many limping.
    5. So Steve I will continue to delete your comments about Wong.
    I warned you.

  21. jimmy the lock April 24, 2013 1:33 pm

Thank you for clearing that up Cindy. I thought you were the beat writer and was giving my definition vs. a columnist.

I like the limping comment, oweee.

  22. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 1:33 pm

    6. Telling it like it is.
What it is as of right now is she is still in the program. She is still in school. She has not transferred.
When there is something to report, it will be reported.

  23. LC April 24, 2013 1:38 pm

Would you agree with me that Jane isn’t dictating the terms here and that she was given a choice of comply and you can return or you can transfer ?

  24. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 1:41 pm

    21. Jimmy don’t worry. I get confused as well.
The acquisition of the Advertiser by the Star-Bulletin changed things. I was a bit burnt out covering both the men and the women for most of the past 30 years and then the blog. So when the paper’s merged, I was asked what I wanted to do.
I said I’d keep the blog, that I’d stay involved and help with the men’s and women’s coverage. I am there most every match because I put up the breaking news story and get quotes if we’re up against deadline, and if the beat writer is unable to attend because an assignment conflict or emergency, I cover the game.
At the moment, I’m kind of the DH or U. I do the recreation page that runs on Fridays, the PacWest page that runs on Tuesdays. I fill in when needed for high school coverage. Will be at OIA boys volleyball Thursday, OIA girls water polo Saturday. Also covered the Wahine basketball team when there was a doubleheader with the men.
I thought you had the right definitions. The blog allows me to give some opinion. I had a column until 2000 when I became the sports editor.

  25. mainlandgal April 24, 2013 1:42 pm

dedicatedfan — I don’t know who you are, nor do I care. You make yourself out to be an idiot on these feeds. Not sure what issues you have with SW, so be an adult and take them up with him.

You obviously did not follow the Sand team very closely this season or you would have seen the lack-luster performance by Croson every time she stepped on the sand. That and the fact that she went through several partners because “no one wanted to partner with her” (exact words from fellow teammates). There are serious issues that Croson needs to take care of off the court and quite frankly the coaches, DS and SW, gave her an ultimatum and she failed to oblige. So, the decision being hers is absolutely correct. She chose her path, which is off the indoor and sand team. It has nothing to do with partnering her up with the best partner. Face it, she was NOT the best our there on the sand this season and she has struggled on the indoor team ever since she started playing at UH. Whether she needs a break or needs to move on from volleyball all together will ultimately be her choice. Let her make it. Quit putting her faults on to the shoulders of others. NO ONE has chosen her path for her. She has made some pretty poor decisions and they are finally catching up with her.

It’s time to let the players that want to be a part of the UH volleyball programs, indoor and/or sand have the courts.

And you Sir, need to grow up!!!

  26. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 1:46 pm

    24. LC, would you agree that players should not be the ones who dictate the terms, particularly collegiate athletes? This is not the Lakers. ‘-)
    25. thank you

  27. LC April 24, 2013 1:52 pm

    +1 #25

  28. jimmy the lock April 24, 2013 1:52 pm

Without a doubt, thank you Cindy for your dedicated work and contributions to athletics in Hawaii.

  29. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 1:55 pm

Just curious Cindy, how do you know it has nothing to do with SW, when you state that you do not know why Jane was suspended, or even contemplating transferring. If you do know, then that is news and should be written about. Or, are you like the rest of Upper Campus Administrators and covering things up

  30. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 2:08 pm

Not covering up anything. there is no news. and being rude to me is not going to change my answers.
when there is something to be reported there will be.
she is still with the program. she is still in school.
whether she stays or leaves, as is the case with every athlete, is her decision.

  31. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 2:22 pm

Should a player dictate to a coach, NO. But when a coach let’s a player down by not trying to bring out the very best in said player. Then that coach should not be in a position to coach. The University of Hawaii Athletic Department did have that problem in the past, are they having another one now, only time will tell. Here is hoping, Ben Jay does not wait to long to find out, if this is a case now.

  32. jimmy the lock April 24, 2013 2:29 pm

Opinions and facts, two different things. State facts and you will be credible.

  33. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 2:29 pm

Cindy, then how can you say, “it has nothing to do with SW.”, when you do not know yourself. Are you just presuming it does not? I do agree with your last sentence though. That it is a players decision to either stay or leave, any school. BUT it is not good when a coach, either a Head Coach, or Assistant Coach, does things to force a player to leave.

  34. Ki Mo April 24, 2013 2:33 pm

Nicely said Mainland girl. That about sums it all up.

  35. turfwar April 24, 2013 2:36 pm

Thank you mainlandgal. Cindy you should be charging dedicatedfan for all the counseling you give him. By responding to his posts you’re the only person that cares about his creepy obsessive concerns.

  36. jimmy the lock April 24, 2013 2:46 pm

Steve, Cindy has stated facts, she said it was not the coach that caused her suspension, she said Croson is still enrolled, she is still in the program.

    Are those not all facts?

Any yes, I am not saying that Cindy is not credible…double negative.

  37. jeff April 24, 2013 2:51 pm

Sadly she might become a distraction maybe not like vander but seems like a diva i hope she does not go to washington

  38. Warriorfan April 24, 2013 2:57 pm

    Mainlandgal I appreciate your insights.
To be honest earlier this sand season I thought you were just a Croson hater.
But when you are a returning all american and your own team mates do not want to pair up with you, that is a redflag.

As a fan of UH and Croson’s game, I hope she changes for the better and that she makes a comeback. Rooting for her and wishing her good luck either way.

  39. meimei April 24, 2013 3:07 pm

Nonetheless, I hope JC finds the passion, if that is what is lacking, and/or decides to stay with UH… she has been very exciting to watch since day one and will be highly missed if she decides to leave ~

  40. vlimafan April 24, 2013 3:13 pm

    #34 dedicatedfan wrote:
“Cindy, then how can you say, “it has nothing to do with SW.”, when you do not know yourself. ”

dedicatedfan, How do you know if it has anything to do with SW when you DEFINITELY do not know yourself. Do you have any evidence or facts? My guess is no. You simply have a grudge against SW and because of that you spew out your animosity by making unwarranted comments and desperately (and unsuccessfully) try to convince anyone that your words hold any truth to the matter. When are you going to accept the fact that one believes you? You’ve never shown any credibility.

I notice something about you, Steve/dedicatedfan. When you get angry at someone, your imagination runs rampant. Just because you post what you’re feeling inside, does NOT make it true. And just because Cindy doesn’t write what you so desperately want (or need) to hear does NOT make you right either.

NO ONE HAS EVER BELIEVED YOU and NO ONE BELIEVES YOU NOW.

And please don’t “prove” me wrong by signing on as one of your aliases and writing “I’m with dedicatedfan. I believe he’s right” like you’ve done before several times. It just makes you look even worse.

  41. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 3:20 pm

vlimafan, as for your last paragraph, I have never done that, and Cindy knows that. This is just another cover up, to protect coaches, in a long line of cover ups by the UH Athletic Department, and Upper Campus.

  42. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 3:26 pm

warriorfan, think about this, as you say, a returning all-American. Who does she get paired with, someone who has never played Sand/Beach Volleyball before. Instead of being paired with someone who has played Sand/Beach Volleyball. Being that she was your only returning All-American, since Hartong was told not to compete, you would think to feature her. But no, in all the coach’s wisdom, he hid her down in the lineup, and like I said, paired her with someone who never played Sand/Beach before.

  43. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 3:31 pm

I truly believe both DS and SW are missing the boat on this girl. You do not become MVP, at a position, she has not yet played at UH, or one of the best pair Beach Players, for no reason.

  44. Warriorfan April 24, 2013 3:31 pm

    42. Agreed, but You know who will be exciting to watch this fall??
Taylor Higgins, she even has the same jump serve as Croson.

  45. mainlandgal April 24, 2013 4:07 pm

#46 dedicatedfan: contrary to what you may think and/or believe, Croson was partnered the way she was because the majority of the sand players did not and would not play with her. That says a lot and had nothing to do with the coaches. The partner she played with the most, Kastl, took on the task out of the goodness of her heart. Others that partnered with Croson refused to play any longer with her. It was SW who listened to his players and didn’t favor one over all the others.

And as far as it being the coaches “job” to bring out the best in an athlete, there’s only so much a coach can do when outside influences play a bigger role in the athletes life than the sport. All American, MVP, whatever it may be, if you have it one season, doesn’t mean you have it the next.

In Croson’s case this sand season, she wasn’t hidden down in the line-up, she was there because that’s the level of play she brought to the team this season. Nothing more, nothing less. If you followed the team and saw her play, you’d have seen that and understood.

dedicatedfan, you need to get your facts right. It does no good to continue writing false facts and blaming others for the choices Croson has made off the court.

  46. mainlandgal April 24, 2013 4:16 pm

#41 Warriorfan: I would never be a “hater” of an athlete, good, bad or indifferent. Knowing Croson has a lot to overcome, and some serious issue to address, I only wish her the best.

Isn’t it funny … If something were to happen to Croson because of the outside influences that have taken control of her life, then I’m sure the coaches would be blamed for NOT doing anything. Thankfully they have stepped up and taken steps to help her, not enable her. That is a coaches “job”, to keep the best interest of the athlete in the forefront.

  47. 808 April 24, 2013 4:24 pm

mainlandgal, I may have missed this, but what is the source of your assertion that most of the other players did not want to play with Jane? Where did this information come from?

  48. Manoa April 24, 2013 4:25 pm

Crosson has some problems. She had these problems in high school also– recall her suspension in her senior year.

Given the what we know, the problems are serious and may be getting worse– you do not get in the situation she is in by some attitude issue or not hustling or a disagreement with her coach. She will never get anywhere but down and out if she does not face up to the problems and get some help. Just based on what has happened in her young life, her situation is serious. Blaming someone else– like a coach– only makes it worse.

  49. Alohilani April 24, 2013 4:37 pm

OMG not to make light out of Croson leaving or not leaving but you guys are hilarious. All of you may be getting upset over nothing if she doesn’t end up leaving. You can tell the difference between a player who really wants to play at UH or not, just look at Brooke Sedore – he seems REALLY happy to play for UH. That is someone I would be surprised at if he left UH before his time was up.

  50. Hightop April 24, 2013 4:44 pm

Is it still not time to ban this guy yet? That type of innuendo is disgusting.

  51. dedicatedfan April 24, 2013 4:52 pm

Hightop, it is not academics, as stated by Cindy. And it has nothing to do with volleyball, so what else can it be. Going out on a date with her b/f? LOL

  52. ruffles April 24, 2013 5:14 pm

#55 you should really change your name because “dedicatedfan” is very insulting to those of us who are truly fans of the UH programs. A dedicated fan inplies that you should SUPPORT the teams, not doing whatever you are doing. Your appropriate name should be “hater” because that is simply what you are. That being said everyone including yourself in entitled to his or her opinion. Just suggesting you call yourself what you truly are.

  53. mainlandgal April 24, 2013 5:16 pm

#55 dedicatedfan: you nailed it. She should be kicked off the team. Nothing more needs to be said.

  54. Hightop April 24, 2013 5:48 pm

@ #52 – I had the exact same question. Probably best to take everything carelessly thrown out here with a grain of salt.

I wish people would quit feigning impartiality when they obviously have an agenda or some sort of personal beef.

As for Jane, I wish her the best and hope she stays with the Wahine. She’s fun and exciting player to watch and would be greatly missed by fans if she decides to leave.

  55. Chicken Grease April 24, 2013 5:52 pm

Wish Croson well and pray for her.

These kinds of decisions aren’t easy.

  56. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 6:00 pm

DF, your accusations are borderline libel. they will continue to be deleted.
You have no knowledge of the situation.
There is no news. There is no coverup.
As I have said, it is any athlete’s decision to stay or go. Lots of reasons for both.
Sure fans get invested in certain players but to continually bashing others for some one else’s decisions and choices. is not right.

  57. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 6:01 pm

    51. Steve you cannot have it both ways. but it seems that you will deride the coach for whatever way he handles the pairings.

  58. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 6:04 pm

    55. Never said that it had nothing to do with volleyball. Do not presume otherwise so stop with throwing mud and hoping it buries someone

  59. vlimafan April 24, 2013 6:04 pm

    Cindy,

Would you please ban Steve/Laura/dedicatedfan already or at least suspend his activity?

Now he is bringing up alleged drug and alcohol use on players w/o ANY proof, unless ppl trust his “Cause I have seen with my own eyes” crap. Drug and alcohol use among athletes (of any sports) may be true but this annoying poster is just saying things w/o any evidence just to try to convince others that his words have any merit.

He is damaging Wong’s and Shoji’s reputation w/ unwarranted accusations and now he is associating drug/alcohol use w/ Jane’s current situation. I think both are reason enough to ban this friggin’ jerk!

  60. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 6:05 pm

    62. just about there. thanks.

  61. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 6:16 pm

Manoa, Croson’s problem in high school … when I spoke with her coach after she signed he said that if it had been up to him she and the other player wouldn’t have been suspended. but the school had a zero tolerance policy on what was a very heated argument that got out of hand.
I’m not sure what the ‘given what we know’ mean. The only person blaming someone else is Steve/Steven/Laura.

  62. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 6:17 pm

Agree, Alohilani. If she decides to stay, what will be said then?

  63. mauna April 24, 2013 7:28 pm

dedicatedfan Steve is now bashing SW on the VT blog.

  64. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 8:02 pm

thanks for the heads up. I will alert the administrators to the problem.

  65. Grammy April 25, 2013 4:28 am

Aloha Cindy, reading your workload makes me glad I retired. I’ve been staying away from the blog during men’s season, but couldn’t miss this one. After spending a half-hour reading and scanning comments, I feel like I could have stopped reading after your initial statement and not wasted time. I’ve taken to just ignoring some comments, skipping to the real fan comments. I know that the word comes from “fanatic” which suggests passionate involvement with something, but it is very hard to keep on when comments spiral of into fantasy and hate and unfounded and hurtful ‘statements’. I want to be a supporter and try to keep it positive. Negative is, I guess, equally supported by some, but it is bound to create a false sense of momentum and coupled with the anonimity of the internet interface allows some to just ramp up their own sense of things. Don’t wish to participate in that kind of thinking. Go Wahine! Jane, do care what happens to you (in or out of UH) wishing you the best in whatever you choose for yourself. Only you get to make some decisions and so be it.

  66. wop ur jaws April 25, 2013 6:01 am

okay im putting my thoughts in… so…on a Macro level, the reason that the readers/fans are speculating…is that the facts have not been revealed. Saying it’s her decision is what I’d call adecision she has to make…but no one has concretely said…the reason is ? so people are going to make their own reality. I think once the facts are known, then people cannot dispute it. Of course the facts in any situation can be tricky based on who is presenting it. Anything else from anyone else is what I call heresay.

  67. setaone April 25, 2013 6:47 am

    Hey Cindy,

Is it possible that instead of deleting a comment, you can show it as deleted? That way the reply number doesn’t change?

  68. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 9:36 am

Jane Croson, is not thinking about transferring. She is deciding whether to return as a Wahine, or turn professional in Sand/Beach Volleyball. Which ever you decide to do, I will support you, Jane Croson.

  69. Cindy Luis April 25, 2013 12:54 pm

    67. Setaone. good idea. will do that in the future.
