U.S. men vs. Russia in World League Friday-Saturday

Watched a replay of U.S. Bulgaria from May 25 last night. K.Shoji came in to set in place of Christenson in Set 2, after the U.S. dropped Set 1. Was on OC 211. Anyway, broadcasters has some nice things to say about Kawika and Erik, how they were from one of the first families of volleyball, mentioning Dave’s long career at UH. They also discussed the stiff competition for the setting spot that will be ongoing through the 2016 Olympics with Shoji, Christenson, James Shaw and Ryan Ammerman. Shoji the shortest at 6-3, the other 3 range from 6-6 to 6-8.

Others on the World League roster pool with Hawaii ties are Futi Tavana  and Alfee Reft.

This week’s matches vs. Russia at The Pyramid Friday & Saturday, 4 p.m. HST both days.

Didn’t see any live TV scheduled on Oceanic.

Cindy: In checking the USA-Volleyball link you provided it mentioned that the June 7th event will be televised. I copied the sentence: “USA vs. Russia | Airing on TV NBC Sports Channel June 7, 12-1:30 a.m. ET.” Subtract six hours and you get Hawaii time, 6 PM. I guess it is a delayed broadcast so they can fit it neatly into a timeslot. You didn’t mention how we can see the replay of the USA match against Bulgaria. Do you have an online link?

I did mention watching on OC 211. i do not see a link for an online replay.
Also mentioned I didn’t see a live telecast listed on OC guide
OC 210 supposedly is the NBC Sports channel but I do not see FIVB on it.
Only the FIVB replays on 211.

caught a glimpse of that match as well, micah seemed out of position or didn’t pick up the reads quick enough to be effective at the net blocking.

    i though kawika was 6’4″?

I have noticed that there has been literally no promotion in Hawai`i for the upcoming USA vs Brazil match .

Granted that is in not a UH or Wahine event but because we would want to have a good showing after tooting our horns for years about the great volleyball fan support for this sport in Hawai’i one would think that someone here would be helping USAV in promoting it,

What do you think ? Is this strictly up to USAV ?

  5. Cindy Luis June 6, 2014 8:40 am

Not sure what you are asking in terms of promotion. Newspaper ads, TV and Radio spots?
We will have stories as the event gets closer.

USAV has hired a marketing firm for this. They are out of California. I spoke with the guy two weeks ago and have heard nothing after that.
I know they’ve contacted John Fink and they are going to do TV spots. PR guy asked me who they should have in the spots. Gave him a few names to add to the ones he already had. He says he knows the radio station management so …

I know they’ve contacted our advertising department about potential sponsorship but that is our business side, totally separate from the editorial department. And the sports department is not involved with marketing decisions.

To be honest, when I was contacted by the guy (after I contacted USAV about it). the first thing he asked was How did you already know about this? He didn’t realize that USAV had already announced it on their website.

    3. Bulgaria adjusted well from the previous match where Christenson set the U.S. ta a 5-set win.
USAV lists K. Shoji at 6-3
You saw Priddy go down. He is out for the rest of the season.

Are tickets still available on UH website? Or can I still go to box office. Sorry if you have already clarified this

  8. Cindy Luis June 6, 2014 8:51 am

yes, tickets are available at both. and will be through match days

    What was Priddy’s injury?

Thanks for the heads up on the World League replays on 211 (or HD 1211). I’ve set my DVR to record!

Shortest at 6-3 means cut from the team or not considered. Please be truthful to others. Not the most important topic is Shoji.

  13. Cindy Luis June 7, 2014 2:44 pm

    12. don’t know what you mean. I said he was the shortest setter they had on the roster at 6-3, which is the truth according to the USA roster. .

  14. 1988 ("circles") June 7, 2014 7:00 pm

(possibly) He means that you have a problem with being “truthful”.

We all know that, at times! 😉

  15. Cindy Luis June 7, 2014 7:10 pm

Really? please enlighten me as to when I haven’t been.
Your emoticon does not make it OK to accuse someone of lying.
My question to Tiki was about 6-3 meaning cut from the team. that did not make sense.
