Volleyball magazine honors to Averill, Sedore

congrats to both. From UH:

Taylor Averill and Brook Sedore were selected to Volleyball Magazine’s NCAA Men’s All-American list. Averill was picked to the first team while Sedore was a second team selection.

In April, both were named to the AVCA Division I-II All-America teams – Averill to the first team and Sedore honorable mention. In addition, Averill was a first-team all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation selection while Sedore was named to the second team.

Averill, a junior middle blocker from San Jose, Calif., led the nation in hitting percentage (.477) and ranked eighth in blocking (1.22 per set). He also averaged 2.17 kills per set and had 14 service aces and was UH’s first middle blocker All-American since 2003. In addition to being selected to the all-MPSF first team, he was an MPSF all-academic pick and finished fourth in the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Blocker of the Year voting.

Sedore, junior opposite from Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada, led the team with a 3.70 kills per set average that ranked ninth in the MPSF and 18th nationally. He also had a team-high 26 service aces and averaged 1.01 digs and 0.55 blocks per set while hitting at a .290 clip.

It’s great to know that we have two All-Americans returning for next year!

This was the most likely news I expected to hear. It’s the American view. We’re part of America in Hawai’i, but nationally, what better names to address than these two to represent UH Warriors. The better player and much well deserved on this year’s run to a national title run. Just fell short of that goal.

What’s even more amazing was that Averill wasn’t originally a middle blocker, if I remember correctly. Wasn’t he a backup opposite and setter? And Sedore was initially a serving substitute. Congrats to them!

Averill was always a middle , in high school he was listed as a mb/s. When he was signed by uh the release called him a middle/setter.

I thought he was also training for opposite before getting the starting job in the middle. I must have confused him with Timmer.

He was also training as an OH. If I remember correctly, Wade once said something about him being looked at (at times, some briefly) at all positions except libero.

After checking online, he indeed was recruited as a setter/opposite and started several matches at opposite in 2012. Before he took over the starting middle job in 2013, he was still training and backing up at opposite and setter. I wasn’t talking about his high school career, I was referring to his UH career.
