Did I miss something from the NCAA? BYU’s website says that the NCAA Men’s Div. I/II Tournament this year expanded to 6 teams, with 2 teams earning 1st round byes. Talk about a lack of transparency from the NCAA…

  10. rayson April 27, 2014 12:07 am

    9. You must have missed it. Don’t know when the official announcement was made but the change in format was known since last year.

Don’t know who to root for. I hate BYU so I’d be happy to see anyone else win. I’d also love to see whichever MPSF team make into the semis pound Loyola.

  11. Cindy Luis April 27, 2014 5:21 am

    9. yes, you must have missed it. Discussed it months ago.

  12. Don April 27, 2014 6:19 am

10,11 It would have been better PR if the NCAA actually HAD the information on it’s Championship website in a timely manner. They’ve updated it today, but before then, zip, nothing, nada…

  13. Cindy Luis April 27, 2014 6:48 am

It was announced months ago Only reason for update was to announce the at large teams

  14. Cindy Luis April 27, 2014 6:50 am

Sorry cannot create new thread Lewus gets at large over pepperdine

  15. Cubicle1126 April 27, 2014 9:46 am

wow, the ncaa still have found a way to make a mockery of the men’s expanded ncaa tournament field.

    lewis invited over pepperdine?

byu and stanford in the same side of the bracket?

only 6 teams, and the ncaa still finds a way to screw it up … i understand how the seedings fell, but it doesn’t seem like the committee based their choices on strength of schedule at all.

  16. formerlywarriorfan April 27, 2014 10:48 am

Lewis what a joke and this is all BYU’s fault for losing to these teams early lol, they had a completely different lineup though.

  17. formerlywarriorfan April 27, 2014 10:51 am

Won’t be watching go BYU or Stanford!! hope they don’t blow it.

  18. Brandon April 27, 2014 10:53 am

Go stanford! Hope they crush all those teams: especially Loyola. Loyola fans are way to cocky for their own good

  19. formerlywarriorfan April 27, 2014 10:58 am

and yes apparently the very first two matches of the season DO matter when it comes to post season, can’t say “it’s early” not even pre mpsf.

  20. Cubicle1126 April 27, 2014 1:33 pm

i don’t mind taking the early matches of the season in consideration (hey, it’s done for the wahine every year 😉 ) … but lewis had an unremarkable rest of the season.

like lewis, pepperdine had also defeated byu (but later in the season). and lewis also has a loss to penn st. and yet, they will face off against penn st, for a chance to make the national semifinals. i would have liked to see what pepperdine can do against penn st instead.

  21. Tiki808 April 27, 2014 3:05 pm

Interesting men’s volleyball champion. Hype NCAA tournament. BYU already won the MPSF championships. That is all there is to it. Stanford to redeem themselves is a weaker division. Bad idea.

  22. Tiki808 April 27, 2014 3:10 pm

    1. Loyola #1 AVCA coaches poll
    2. BYU (MPSF champions)
    3. Stanford (MPSF runner up)
    4. Pepperdine (Lewis?)

Why not make the NCAA tournament like this. Loyola vs. Pepperdine and BYU vs. Stanford for the 2014 NCAA title. Lewis who?

  23. Cubicle1126 April 28, 2014 9:14 am

and actually, it looks like loyola got bumped down to #2 in the AVCA poll. byuis now the #1 team this week, despite only 6 1st place votes (to loyola’s 11 1st place votes). it looks odd, but that appears to be the way the rankings fall this week.

lewis is #10 in the poll, just inching ahead of hawaii this week.

  24. Brandon April 28, 2014 10:26 am

    23. BYu edged them out because loyola got some 5th 4th and 2nd place votes. Byu only got 1st and 2nd place votes.

  25. Cindy Luis April 28, 2014 12:16 pm

    22. because they expanded the tournament to 6 this season.
If it had been four as in the past, it would have been interesting to see if they would have given the at-large to Pepperdine or Stanford.

  26. Cubicle1126 April 28, 2014 1:32 pm

well thank you, Brandon … for not stating the obvious … 😉

  27. Brandon April 28, 2014 1:33 pm

    26. sorry. Just saw the looks odd part and assumed you meant like you didn’t understand. My apologies
