Good cheer

SAN JOSE — It was a happy morning for the Warriors in the aftermath of their 17-10 overtime victory over San Jose State. Head coach Greg McMackin, who stayed up most of the night analyzing the Warriors’ performance, managed a slight smile before downing his “breakfast” — two aspirin and a diet soda.

McMackin, associate head coach Rich Miano, assistant head coach George Lumpkin, offensive coordinator Ron Lee and defensive coordinator Cal Lee departed  from the San Jose Marriott at dawn to the San Francisco airport to catch an early flight. They wanted to get a head start on preparing for this coming week’s game against Navy.

The rest of the team departed on a later flight out of San Jose.

Quarterback Bryant Moniz said he was held out of the game “to be safe.” He is recovering from bruised right ribs. He expects to play against Navy.

Slotback Greg Salas also should be ready to go. He suffered upper-body pain during the game, but appeared to be OK this morning.

    On the Field Perspective

Game was over. San Jose fans all left. Warrior fans stomping and yelling filling the stands from 30′ line to 30′ line. Warrior players come over to say mahalo to the fans. As soon as Warrior players moving to the sidelines and starting to group up and drop their helmets we all could see what was going down. Fans go off.
    Warriors do the ha’a.
A Warrior Community chicken skin moment in time!!!

  6. oldie November 22, 2009 6:32 am

Thank you, Warriors, for keeping the possibility of the Hawaii Bowl alive.

No question Hawaii needs to bring it’s “A” game (minimum turnovers) and a healthy Bryant Moniz and Greg Salas.

But at least the dream still lives.

  7. don weir November 22, 2009 6:35 am

    Mahalo from Na Koa

Curt Ozaki and the Hukilau Restaurants for hosting the receptions in both San Francisco and San Jose locations, and, for the postgame party in San Jose

Hawai’i Chamber of Commerce of Northern California for their continued support of UH (http://www.hccnc.com/) and UHAA Bay Area chapter for putting on a tailgate that was a first class operation

Hawaiian Airlines (Leimomi Hall) for donating the trip for two to Hawaii
    at the tailgate raffle

Rainbowtique for bringing the Warrior clothing to outfit our mainland fans and supporters

All of the Tsaikos in attendance that came up to say hello and ask for the bike #1 and bike #2 ‘inside edition’ stories

  8. Garret November 22, 2009 6:45 am

I finished archiving the quotes from the game.

  9. Garret November 22, 2009 6:47 am

    Don Weir,

I’m sorry I didn’t get to say “hi” to you. It was a long day for me driving up from Southern California with my wife and 2 kids, so I didn’t get to the tailgate that early.

The Coffee always taste better on Sunday morning with a WIN!

    Mahalo Warriors!

  14. wafan November 22, 2009 7:02 am

Too bad two players decided not to participate in a team activity. Stand in the background or off to the side. But, to turn your back and walk away does not show a lot of class and style.

  15. Maverick November 22, 2009 7:04 am

Ok, this is horrible for me to even think this. If anyone want’s to scold me, go for it. I wont take it personally.

Possibly, now possibly i say, Did SMU intentionally, throw that game against Marshall, so they will finish 2nd place in the conference. This was right after Houston won their game yesterday.

This allows SMU to get to the Hawaii bowl now with no qualms. Even if both SMU and Houston lose next week, Houston still takes the title.

Spank me for this this thought.

  16. Cheyah! November 22, 2009 7:05 am

Good Job Warriors! One game at a time! Let’s go Mack & Co. put your minds to work. Get our defense ready for the midshipmen! Speedy recovery for Moniz and Salas and da rest of the boys.

    Go Warriors!

  17. mctruck November 22, 2009 7:17 am

wonder what the attendence was at the game, hmmmm???

  18. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 7:21 am

Good morning Warriors. Great job, you did not quit!

    Garrett,

my addy is gleeloy@ gmail dot com

    1. postmanke, got my opinion about what you think you saw; sure would like to know exactly what you’re thinking. i saw what little i saw on the tv, and trying to read ti leaves on tv not always accurate. 😀 rather trust
online fortune teller free crystal ball. 😆 right!

    2. garret, could you please share? i’ll get a chance to sit next to the tunnel this week, and i’d like to motivate all the players. might not be able to change those 2 minds, but i can sure motivate all off them including those 2.

btw, sometimes progress is slow. main thing we know exactly what is going on so we can be positive in our influence.

  21. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 7:30 am

    All Hail Sir Mojo,

    defender of the blog.

    where you stay, sir? 😀

  22. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 7:39 am

spent most of the nite sleeping, and dreaming of our defense and what it means for our future.

some say we’re getting better. i dunno what they mean by that.
for sure our dbs are playing less off their coverage then at the beginning of the season. been paying close attention to the dbs because thats
Miano’s area, and I’m trying to get a good read about where he is and where he would take us in the long term. and i’ve already formed my opinion. my opinion started last year when i watched a practice and heard the lip Ryan Mouton gave him when coach Miano tried to stress the importance of classwork to Ryan, and Ryan’s retort was that he was going NFL, something like that. If coach Miano had anything further to say to Ryan, it was off the field. Don’t know if that happened, or not.

which is why i’m dying to hear what Postmanke has to say about what he saw last nite.

June Jones would never lose a game on purpose. It’s like saying he didn’t care about losing to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl so he could go to SMU. June Jones would never do that.

Happy Sunday everyone! A W is a W no matter how. Team played their butts off in 40 degree weather. Finally met Don Weir and got the War and Peace version of the bikes. He’s a good man and works really hard. Met so many Tsaikos the past two days. Special thanks to RainbowCliff and the 5 dozen golf balls. TSA didn’t know what to mae of them. Also to Stretch and PowderPuff for lodging arrangements and goodies. Good to see CRW fly in from DC. And of course our blog host who dragged me to a casino.

  31. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 8:23 am

good morning Bradda! glad to see dat you still in da driver’s seat. 😆

Come next Sunday I’m hoping the coffee taste good and there’s another similar blog title, like today’s, titled “good cheer”.

I mean it can happen, no?

The momentum UH has going into next Saturday’s game with Navy is undeniable high and the drama and importance of winning this game will be higher. So I think this makes for the players performing with peaking inspiration and pride, of which will give them an added boost as they battle the Navy team.

Undoubtedly the players and coaches are looking forward to this game with optimism, as do I.

No hold back. No hesitation. Let it rip. Go Warriors.

  33. Slugger November 22, 2009 8:25 am

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  35. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 8:30 am

da wife is in da tv room yelling at da tv, talking about the Colt Brennan of the Redskins. asked her wat she’s talking about, and she says the 3rd string running back. she’s still yelling so sumtin good must be happenin.

Redskins, gives me hope for our Warriors. They still got Zorn in charge, but they must have somebody else in charge.

    hiya Rich2176.

good to hear about CRW making it to the game, and Don Weir representing us and Na Koa. Yup, he is a good man. So is his sidekick Mike Lum.

i’m waiting for Postmanke to wake up. and confess. 😀

  36. RedZone November 22, 2009 8:30 am

  37. wafan November 22, 2009 8:37 am

The International History Channel has an interesting program on how the Hawai’ian islands were created. It is stuff we all learned in school. What is interesting is the development of the science that supports the theory.

  38. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 8:40 am

The things we gonna have to do against Navy. they’re smaller than us, line for line. they’ll try to play lower, and go for the knees of the guy on the side. I call that dirty play, but been told its legal. and they won’t do it everytime, just enough to get in our guys’ heads.

now if I, a guy who has never played a down of football in my life, can figure that out, and our coaches have a whole week to prepare for Navy,
just think of the possibilities good coaching might do for our Warriors?

    😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

  39. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 8:43 am

Yes, I did. Funny how they were able to explain hot-spot volcanoes based on science developed as a result of studying Hawai’i.

I wonder how Mau’i feels. instead of pulling up/out he is pushing up?

The next one about tsunamis looks to be kind of interesting, too.

Thanks for the H channel tip. Now that the Skins game is at half-time, I’ll watch.

    There’s been a rainbow almost all morning… happy day…

  56. Kazz November 22, 2009 9:29 am

    The good:

-Running game filled in since Moniz couldn’t play. Yes SJSU sucks against the run, but they gave it and we took it.

-Jon Medeiros. No need to explain. If you saw the game, he spoke with his actions. Sans the dropped ball from an AWESOME desperate effort from a falling Shane Austin.

    -Mana Silva and Jeremy Bryant.

    -Dunnachie getting more consistant.

    The bad:

-Horrible decisions for sitting Enos so many times. We left about 6 points in “no brainer” FG attempts by going for it once on 4th and 5 early in the game and 4th and FREAKIN 16 in FG range. If the message to Enos is “you’re not dependable”, then message received, but another message was received as well… bad decisions being made on the side line. Game should have not gone to OT.

-Bad tackling popped up again. Thank goodness for us SJSU is just well… horrible like WSU horrible!!!

-Dropped passes. Expected though in colder weather with harder balls and a new QB.

-Kicking game. Where is it? I honestly believe that all these 4th down conversion attempts over the past two or three games ISN’T HELPING ENOS WITH HIS CONFIDENCE!!!!!!! So where is Blumberg or even Kenny Estes if we’re gonna go that far??? YOU NEED A KICKING GAME!!! IF THE KICKER IS STRUGGLING, YOU JUST CAN’T PUT HIM TO SHAME BY GOING FOR IT ON 4TH AND 16!!!!!!!!!

    ———

    Navy…

    N-E-X-T!!!

  57. GRM November 22, 2009 9:34 am

Anybody knows what station will be televising the UH/Navy game this Saturday? ESPN or ESPN2?

  58. Oh my! November 22, 2009 9:36 am

    ESPNU

  59. Momona November 22, 2009 9:37 am

#38 BHF – Navy learned the blocking schemes from Paul Johnston when he was HC there. He did the same thing when he was OC here and the other WAC coaches were complaining. As a UH fan, I said quit complaining and play the game. It’s legal.

Now we’re going to be on the other end.

    Ai soos!

  60. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc November 22, 2009 9:43 am

Didn’t finish work until the last three minutes of the 4th quarter yesterday plus the OT – set the DVR for the 10 am replay.

A brief reminder: The beneficiaries of the last two T-Gate HI-5 collections are the men’s and women’s summer school scholarship funds except for football and (w) volleyball. More information to come on this – start collecting cans and bottles – including stuff from Thanksgiving parties and the office.

Are any plans being set up to watch the WAC final volleyball match in a bar on Wednesday. The Stanford and UH men’s volleyball team meet in Klum Gyn at 3 pm for a season-opening exhibition match, but that should be over by the time the WAC championship game starts at 4:30 pm Hawai`i time.

Is Don Robbs going to provide radio coverage for ESPN 1420 on Tuesday & Wednesday? Need to bring along a radio if he is and get some ear thingees since I’ll be stuck in meetings all afternoon & evening.

Does anyone here have any information about the football banquet luncheon on Sunday, December 6? I keep looking for the information in the Athletic Department’s weekly e-newsletter sent out weekly, but so far nothing.

Back to work – wanted to take the day off, but nocando.

Oh, yes – Congratuations to the Warriors on their win!

  61. LizKauai (Aspire-LV) Go Warriors! November 22, 2009 9:44 am

    Susan- I am WITH YOU!!!

  62. Kazz November 22, 2009 9:44 am

No time for 48 hour rule. Defense against the triple option begins today.

    Assignment football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Assignment football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Assignment football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Assignment football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Assignment football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Assignment football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Assignment football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys like Tufaga, Meatoga and Jake Heun should have their sights set on the fullback. How our interior defensive linemen shed off the guards should dictate how Heun will be able to penetrate and or mirror the fullback hopefully controlling that option.

Next up Fonoti, Falemalu, and L. Satele are going to have to play the game of their lives to allow for any hope of stopping or taking away off-tackle plays from the triple option, and also need to stop one of the options, probably the quarterback keeper. The closest experience we’ve had with QB keepers was against Nevada and to a much lesser extent Utah State. I believe our QB spies at the time in Nevada was Richard Torres and Lewis Walker, they did their job, someone is going to have to do it again.

But as with most defenses it starts with our defensive line.

Coach Mack once was quoted in saying he’d have to hate playing against the run and shoot, but can stand playing against the Triple Option.

Coach Mack prefers the faster and more athletic down defensive linemen over the traditional space eaters.

Is there a relation between his lack of concern against the Triple Option as opposed to defending the run and shoot and his preference of a faster, but smaller defensive line? I dunno…

No time for brain farts and coaching mis-cues against Navy.

    NONE!!!

  63. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 9:52 am

    momona,

yup, its legal. since we know its coming, whether it comes or not, we gotta design our offensive plays schemes to utilize the option more often, and figure out a way to get the ball to the WRs.

and that means somebody gotta get into Rolo’s head. because thats his last option. thats my gut feel and i’m sticking to it.

    LIzK,
your text is making us laugh.

speaking of coaching, we get players from Cal and they wanna play here and after they’re here they no like absorb the culture and the fun and camraderie with the fans and us, Warrior Nation.

that no can, Coach Miano. culture is something you beat into your younger brothers. 😀

  64. Pomai November 22, 2009 9:56 am

I don’t watch the nfl very much but turned on the redskins game, whoa I’m glad Colt isn’t playing for them now, they are really bad. I think UH could have chance with them even. No protection for the QB at all.

Back to UH got to give credit to mr. & mrs. sailorblue as they where cheering an yelling for the Warriors, but as soon as the OT was over da buggah wen put on his navy hat en shirt. Sorry blue you guys goin down!!!!!!!!

WDoc – #60 – Scott Robbs will be providing the radio play-by-play.

BTW, do any other schools televise/broadcast their volleyball games? I mean, aside from the sports channels that never give UH any love.

Watching Redskins-Cowpukes game. Glad Redskins are winning, but both teams look terrible on offense. And the cowgirls are leading the division?

    HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

our Coach gotta watch what Jim Zorn is doing. He’s doing a lotta talking to somebody, don’t know exactly who, but I just saw Jason Campbell come over to Zorn and was pointing to the play sheet on his forearm.

    #15 Maverick:

SMU is NOT guaranteed a bowl berth with 6 wins – it makes

    them bowl eligible only.

    The teams with the most W’s, qualify for the conference’s bowls;

    I don’t know how many C-USA has.

If you look at their conference standings, Houston has 9 wins, and

there are 3 teams with seven wins.

Therefore, it looks like SMU gotta win their last game to be in

the running for a bowl bid.

    repost

    re: Charlie Weis’ Replacement

I think its pretty obvious that CW is going to get canned at the end of this season. Barely being bowl eligible after 5 years with a horrendous W-L record of just over .500 is not respectable.

So the question…WHO do you think is going to be his replacement?

My suggestions are as follows (in no particular order):

    1) Urban Meyer – He said it himself “Notre Dame would be my dream job” and now with Tim “SuperMan” Tebow out of the picture…hmmm

    2) Brian Kelly – This guy knows how to take a small school with lesser facilities to the level of the big boys. Apparently rumors have him at #1 for Chucky’s replacement.

    3) John Gruden – I assume they can afford him?

    4) Chris Peterson – The 2nd coming of Urban Meyer? His success with so very very little in resources might make him a value pick. Also aside from Hawkins, both Koetter and Houston Nutt have enjoyed success at the BCS college level (both former Head Coaches at Boise St.).

    5) Bob Stoops – Rumors have it he is being considered but would he leave his cushy position with the Sooners?

    6) Jim Harbaugh – The guy has a no mercy attitude (Going for 2pts when it was already a rout against USC…yikes!). His stock might have gone down depending how Stanford does this year. The NFL was also looking at him too.

    7) Kyle Whittingham – Not much name brand recognition but shows how a mid-major conference can take down the big bad SEC in the a BCS bowl.

    8) Mike Shanahan – If the Redskins or Buffalo decide not to pick him up he might be interested in a deal with ND if the price is right. Apparently he is itching to get back into coaching.

    9) Kirk Ferrentz – Honestly don’t know much about this guy aside from him turning down the Michigan job.

    10) George Lumpkin – Longest tenured UH football coach…JUST KIDDING! hahaha.

    re # 80:

Using your list, I’d go with Kelly, then Myer.

Harbaugh will get an extension at Stanford; but I think

he might be in the running for Michigan, after 2010.

  83. Garret November 22, 2009 12:43 pm

    ai-eee-soos,

Good analysis that points out that 7-win teams need to be accommodated by conferences before 6-win teams. However, C-USA has 6 bowl spots (with a possible 7th bowl spot since they are the backup to another bowl) and they will not have 6 teams with 7 wins. So, 6-win teams are eligible to be picked for C-USA…right now if I read things properly they have 6 bowl-eligible teams for 6 spots.

  84. Derek November 22, 2009 12:44 pm

While we are all very happy that the Warriors won (barely), we shouldn’t get too excited. Watching the game was very frustrating. We know that San Jose is just not a good football team. The game shouldn’t have been close and yet, we could have lost. Several things underscored the probems this team has and we need to address it now and for next season.
    1) Place kicking – why isn’t Blumberg not getting a chance? We gotta get Mercado for next season. The Australian has been pretty good the last 2 games, but I still say he has to do a better job to putting the ball inside the 15 yard line or closer. Enos? Enuff said. I think he has a head problem and has lost his confidence and the coaches has lost faith in him, maybe for good reason. He should challege himself in practice.
    2) Red zone problems, again, especially inside the 10. The problem is throwing inside the 10 w/ not much room. Our quarterback(s) are not good enough to throw skillfully in tight spaces. Obviously, we don’t have anybody like Colt Brennan. It seems the QBs kinda panics and tries to hurry the throw. Bottom line: not cool and collected. Is it inexperience?
To me, either they got it or not. What would help in those situations are either rollouts, bootlegs, or play action passes to give the QB a little more time to look for the receivers. I also suspect the QB do not work on a lot of touch passes in close to the end zone. However, inside the 5 the option plays seems to work well to the outside. Hawaii is not a good inside power running team.
    3) Silly penalties – Kia again. It’s kinda a joke now. Stupid penalty – personal foul hitting out of bounds by Paredes. What’s the matter with the guy. That’s the kind of thing that costs a team from winning.
    4) Running backs – I notice we do not have a bruising power running back who will broke tackles. LWJ goes down w/ the first hit a lot of times.
Green needs to hold on to the ball.
    5) Stopping the run – same old same. We gave up too many yards to a bad running team. Total yards given up, 277, was okay, but we gave up a couple of big plays. Pass defense – we’re not great, but I think we are getting a little better. The first year guys are getting valuable experience like Davis, Hopkins, Bryant, Torres, Ornellas, Walker, and Silva, etc.
Aaron Brown will be a big boost next year.
    6) The good – we won the turnover battle which is what I though was a key to winning the game. Medeiros had a good game and Salas fought through his injury.
    7) Up on tap – Navy. I think we have a puncher chance only because we are at home and also the SMU-Navy game. SMU plays the run and shoot just like us and they lost to Navy 27-30 in overtime. So comparatively I think we have a chance, if: 1) we can score 35 points.
    2) don’t allow long runs. 3) win the turnover battle 4) mental edge – Navy knows they are in a bowl game so they might think they are on vacation in Hawaii, while Hawaii is trying hard to make the Wisconsin game the following week the biggest game of the year.
    8) What we don’t do? A defensive touchdown. When was the last time we had one? Okay, Mouton returned an interception for a TD against UNLV in 2007. Too long.
    9) What our offense isn’t? An explosive team. As a run and shoot team, that’s what we should be, explosive, scores a lot of points. We lost a big one when Bradley went down, but the missing link is the QB. We don’t have the abilty to throw deep effectively. If we did it would open up the intermediate stuff and underneath stuff a lot more too. I still say we have to find the messiah yet, however that is?
    10) And finally….have a nice day because keep it in perspective. It’s miserable in Oklahoma, Michigan, Notre Dame, and even USC.

  85. Garret November 22, 2009 12:44 pm

RGM’s team was eliminated in the playoff’s today…but at least RGM made the play of the game for his team.

The Lions’ only fleeting moment of glory came with eight minutes left in the third quarter, when punt returner Ryan Grice-Mullen went 109 yards for a touchdown, the longest in CFL playoff history, bettering by three yards the previous record held by Edmonton’s Henry (Gizmo) Williams.

IWWTHM informed me at Genji’s that Stanford lost to Cal. A friend of mine would say: “lose money”! That team was poised for a seat with the big boys but couldn’t maintain its head of steam.

Here’ the Warriors chance to show some moxie & make believers of the many doubters, although it’s a tall order as they’ll need to show they can effectively stop the fullback dive and the QB keeper; something they’ve had a lot of difficulty with.

    Pomai,

Watched the replay…I still cannot get over #77 and his false start penalties. Does anyone know if Mack addressed the issue and what exactly the problem was this time???

I know the last time it was something to do with him confusing our audible with the opposing defense trying to draw the line off. As I was mentioning to some Tsaikos yesterday if the sound is coming from behind you its YOUR team, if its coming from the front its the OTHER team.

I didn’t see his second false start but in the replay I saw him basically fall down….I’m kinda speechless with that one.

I really hope (again) that we can address this issue that’s been persistent for a while now. The biggest game of the season is always the next one you play so I am hoping that we can get things squared away.

I didn’t realize how much penalties could affect us until now. When June was here I would just brush off a 10 or 15 yard penalty because it seemed like we could get that back without a problem. Now I am realizing that even 5 yards can be very detrimental to our offense…magnified even MORE when you consider our kicking/field goals.

‘Protector’ mentioned how we over pursue and have been trying to hit guys already out of bounds (one of the penalties we had early on in the game). I never noticed it but after watching a replay of the game I can see us getting over excited and doing a little too much once the play is basically over.

I think we might have a shot at Navy assuming our offense keeps up the score…If we are leading in the first half we can win, if we are down/tied going into the 2nd half we might be sitting ducks…the way I see it and the stats show it.

i am going to hold off on my prediction of the score for a few more days. haha.

    Recruiting Needs:
Recruiting is a year round deal. If we’re not recruiting every day, we are falling behind. As I see it, these are the needs by position priority.
    1) A reliable placekicker – if we had one we would have beaten UNLV for sure and made some others a little more closer.
    2) A couple of pass rushers, either DEs or outside linebackers, i.e. Mark Odom, or Travis Laboy.
    3) Defensive tackles w/ quickness.
    4) Offensive linemen w/ good feet
    5) One or two linebackers who are proven tacklers!!! Hello!
    6) One running back who can break tackles, i.e. Vainaku or Quezada maybe.
    7) One blocking back, either who is a lineman or somebody like a Jake Heun who is about 240–245 lbs.
    8. One big time kick returner, both for punts and kickoff.
    9. Shut down corner
    10. Dual QB who can run and throw w/ premium on accuracy and decision-making.
    11. 6-4 or taller receiver who catches everything.
    12. Athletic players w/ speed to develop potential.

Emphasis should be on stopping the run, improve sacks, & find playmakers who can score points. It all starts w/ the trigger man, the QB
(do we have one in the program?). Questionable. It’s a lot asking for..but every team need them. As Rambo said “they are out there. Find them” Therein lies the success of the coaches and if they are doing a job for the program.

I have been reading where some believe the coaches are undermining Eno’s confidence by not going for the FG. I see this as a which came first, the chicken or the egg. Is Eno’s confidence being hindered by the coaches or is Eno’s confidence eroding because of his poor play. Coaching can do only so much, Eno’s may never be a consistent kicker, ever. The possibility of a blocked FG appears to be the reason for not letting Eno’s kick, not the possibility of a miss. The game with SJSU was close, I agree with the coaches that the game is not played to boost Eno’s confidence, it is played to win, and it would not be fair to the other players who gave it their all to lose on a blocked kick. The ball is in Eno’s court to get better. If we are to beat Navy Eno’s will have to get better.

Two way street. Of course we cannot see what has been happening at practice over the past month and a half or so.

But to play to win is to play the percentages as well. Not sure what our 4th down conversion percentages have been this season thus far and I can guesstimate what our FG % has been thus far and it has to be below 50% or at least floating around that area.

If we’re gonna rely on 4th conversions the right plays have to be called. Like the 4th and 5 conversion attempt, the 1st down needs to be achieved before the TD which was more than 15 yards away, but on going for it on 4th and 16 in FG range was just too much, too insane and uncalled for.

Against Navy, I’d want someone’s head on a stick if a 4th down conversion is called on anything more than 5 yards out in a situation where a 3 is going to be better than a 0, which is pretty much most of the time anyway.

    It’s a two way street.

If the coaches are lacking SEVERE confidence in not just Enos, but the entire FG unit, then they better have some validation for these 4th down conversion attempts which results in a new set of downs.

In other words, for the coaches, don’t tell us we never went to the moon without solid evidence other than rumors. 🙄

In the fall I said we may miss the skills of Dan Kelly this season, but I’d at LEAST like the chance to see Enos prove me wrong or prove me right.

Right now, Enos isn’t getting a chance to do anything and it almost came up to bite us on the okole.

Coaching in D1 will do that to ya. Heck look at what ole Charlie looked like when he hyped up a storm when he got hired at South Bend to now. About 40 lbs heavier, 20 years older, and more losses… 😆

But no doubt this season has taken it’s toll on Mack. He still very much looks like the same man I shook hands with in 2007 when he smiles now, but when it’s bad, it’s bad.

The stress and sleepless nights is not worth his health, even though I am sure there are a fair share of “ill-wishers” out there in internet land crossing their fingers… 😆

Hope Mrs. Mack is keeping stern on her man and lookin’ out for him. We all know football season never stops for a coach and unfortunately neither does the stress.

Sometimes, I am amazed that these older coaches are able to avoid stress-related health issues, especially in Hawaii where you are expected to perform like a professional NFL franchise from a lot of “fans” that in turn don’t have the olos to support you as such. 🙄

Sparse number of SJSU fans overall, most concentrated on the west side of the stadium. The south endzone and upperdeck was empty.

These guys all do push ups in the stairs after UH TDs. Captain Hardcore hates these guys as Captain Hardcore HATES life.

    UH and SJSU… 33 games… tied… 16 wins each … and one tie…

  127. jm2375 November 22, 2009 4:59 pm

Bulla – ditto what SteveM says! Roller coasters good. Looks like the good one is called “Griffon”. 90 degrees straight down, 200 ft drop. Not a whole lot open during the cold season. Stay warm!!

  128. Kazz November 22, 2009 5:03 pm

    Ralph,

    So I guess there’s a snowball’s chance in hell we’ll host a regional huh? 😆

    But that just means… there’s a chance!!!!!!!!! 😯

  129. Kazz November 22, 2009 5:05 pm

Watchin’ Da Bears and the Eagles go at it…

So, this is what NFL football is like huh? Multi-million dollar players fumbling, crying about the playing surface, over throwing passes, and dropping balls eh?

    PFFFT! 😆

  130. Kazz November 22, 2009 5:07 pm

Fans booing millionaires screwing up the one thing they’re paid to do, especially in this economy…

This I can agree with fans booing the home team.

I’d do the same in this scenario.

Professional athletes, with today’s salaries, deserve NO sympathy. NONE.

  131. wafan November 22, 2009 5:10 pm

    Good night!

    Long week coming up.

  132. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 5:11 pm

Rivalries. Gotta have both sides fans look forward to the scrap.

Could be BYU. But there is NOTHING to do in Provo on any Sunday except go to church. even IHOP is on short shaft.

UNLV, on the other hand, is
    1. a great place for Hawaii fans to go.
    2. is a great place for a bunch of Hawaii fans on any given Saturday to be there. you can always sell Hawaii tickets as part of the Roberts Thurs-Monday package. Fri-Tues package. any page.
    3. you’ll always have a bunch of Hawaii fans at a UNLV game in UNLV.
    4. get plenty Las Vegas residents who’d come to Hawaii on the game weekend if they knew enough in advance when was going be.
    5. would help UNLV tremendously if they could guarantee a date year after year after year.
    6. as to a LasVegas homje and home and home, you build it they will come. could always be our FIRST game. they would wanna get out of that heat at least once every other year.
    jmo

The trophy for the UH and Fresno State football rivalry should be…

    A GOLDEN KEYBOARD. 😆

  134. Kazz November 22, 2009 5:27 pm

    Programming note.

The UH Rainbowtique will be featured on tonight’s episode of “Island Ventures” on KGMB airing at 11pm tonight following the Coach Mack Show.

  135. Pauoa Boy November 22, 2009 5:27 pm

    Howzit,
Ugly win yesterday, auwe, but at least still get chance for Bowl Game…I think can. Boys gotta play well against Navy, cause you know Coach Niumatalolo got the Navy boys disciplined, which is why they lead all college teams with the least penalties and bonehead kine play. Plus they run UH’s ol school triple option…scary, especially with our weak run defense. Dunno we’ll see, get chance, I think can…

  136. Palolo November 22, 2009 5:28 pm

The trophy for the UNLV – Hawaii game should be the “SAM BOYD” trophy, to be presented to the winner by Riley Wallace.

  137. Pauoa Boy November 22, 2009 5:29 pm

Question, where get better UH stuff…Rainbowtique at Ward, Downtown, Stan Sheriff or moa better go bookstore on campus???

  138. Slugger November 22, 2009 5:50 pm

    Kazz,

Coach Mack Show is on at 10:30 pm channel 7, KGMB.

Is the stock at the UH Bookstore different from the Rainbowtique stores?

  139. Stretch November 22, 2009 5:59 pm

Just woke up from the afternoon “nap”. Damn this past weekend took a lot out of me. Too much drinking Friday and Saturday. It was great to see a bunch of Tsaikos at the tailgate before the game. Didn’t think San Jose could get that cold, it was freezing, just like how it was in New Orleans 2 years ago.

PB – go check out the bookstore on campus AND downtown. Downtown has different stuff from the other stores. Ward is pretty weak.

  140. Slugger November 22, 2009 6:05 pm

    Kazz,

Brain f**t time…I thought you were talking about the Coach’s show, but I see it’s Island Ventures. I don’t know if the inventory is the same at all Rainbowtique stores. I hadn’t seen a white visor in the SSC store, but LizK & I found one at a booth in Aloha Stadium. I haven’t been to the Bookstore. You would know…

…and I know of a couple of WVB fans who would buy a USC shirt w/ the islands on it… 🙂

  141. Kapolei Doc November 22, 2009 6:09 pm

This in reference to the comments made regarding Enos.
Anyone who has played football know that for the most part kickers are a different breed. Thus, coaching kickers becomes extremely important as they are often the ones who decide a win or loss. They require special attention, when they are in a “rut” so to speak. This is where the coaches response is critical. I remember when Jason Elam missed a game winning field goal and coach Wagner met him on the field and hugged him lending encouragement. Look where that approach led us and what it did for him.

I am not saying that there is not a time you don’t get on a players butt to get his head in the right place. But it is how you do it that gets the positive results. If we are lacking in kicking coaches then maybe we should try and do something about that. I think Enos has the potential.

  142. Kazz November 22, 2009 6:10 pm

    RE: UH Merch.

UH Manoa Bookstore is the best.

The UH Manoa Bookstore serves as the “stockroom” for all Rainbowtique locations. The SSC, Ward, and the downtown stores all order their stock from the Manoa location.

The problem for local fans is all Rainbowtique locations have different merch available. Things at Ward are not elsewhere, things at the SSC are not available elsewhere, and so forth.

However, the Manoa bookstore has it all.

The problem for mainland fans is that the website isn’t updated on a regular basis. Sometimes you will see something in a Rainbowtique store and never see it on line for months.

  143. Kazz November 22, 2009 6:17 pm

I don’t think we’ve ever had a “kicking coach” at least in my memory.

Of course I am on the boat of belief that the way we “avoided” the kicking game yesterday sure as heck doesn’t show a vote of confidence in Enos or Blumberg or the FG unit as a whole and the coaches that made these decisions to go for those 4th down conversions sure as heck didn’t help the situation.

We were very lucky to get a win inspite of this and other things we weren’t able to execute.

I understand that we need to do what’s necessary to win, but in last night’s case, if the offense isn’t clicking and our usual QB isn’t able to play, then why reduce your percentages and chances of getting points on the board but attempting a traditionally LOW percentage attempt aka 4th down conversions???

Coach Tormey needs to get a grasp of this situation. Do or die time for the team and this shouldn’t be an issue.

But then again having 10 men on the field in a crucial OT situation shouldn’t have been one either.

NAVY WILL TAKE ADVANTANGES OF THESE ERRORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  144. madeinhawaii November 22, 2009 6:30 pm

Thing is, I can understand where the coaches are coming from. If today’s D1 standards call for kicking within a 1.7 secs.. then that’s what’s gotta be done. Asking the entire line to not only hold for another second but to keep the other players from being able to jump and block or sack, that’s a whole bigger request. No can do. Until the kicker gets that down pat, gotta go with your other options..whatever they may be.

  145. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 6:30 pm

Do we have the coaches that talk to the kickers in the right way, coddle when its right, crack em when its right?

lets look at this year’s situations, and tell me what you think.

lets look at last year’s situation, and tell me what you think?

no need use names, use your gut!

    waddaya thinking?

    EXACTLY!

  146. Willie November 22, 2009 6:33 pm

Coach Tormey, when you look at the FG film, this is what I saw last night & today on the miss wide right late in the game. It’s all mechanics, hardest kick for a right footed kicker is from the right hash.

    1) Enos’ plant foot (his left foot) was aimed where it went, outside the right goal post, plant foot to the target so your hips can follow through. 2) Ball went where his kicking foot finished, pushed outside right (you either got to angle it straight between the posts on a short kick or bring it right to left on a longer kick for kicks from the right hash). 3) Last thing, he did not follow through with his kicking foot (his right foot) to the target (which is between the two goal posts), on this kick & looked like he stopped half way.

  147. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 6:38 pm

    yeah for Willie.

would you please go down to practice and talk to the kid! we need the help on the kicking game.

Go Warriors. and no scared take the help. its all meant well.

  148. Garret November 22, 2009 6:50 pm

UH is 10-17 for FGs this season, about 59%. But the numbers are deceiving because at least one miss can be attributed to a slow decision by the coaches to send the FG unit on the field.

Remember, at UNLV the coaches decided really, really late to go for the FG. The FG unit ran on the field and had to snap the ball before Inoke and Enos were ready because they were trying to avoid the delay of game penalty. Enos had no chance to make the FG, and in a moment of candor Chris Tormey admitted that the coaches made the decision too late to go for the FG and they should have called a timeout.

Chris Tormey blamed the missed 3 points on a slow coaching decision and a bad decision to not call a timeout so that the FG unit could get set. UH lost by 1 point.

  149. buffoman November 22, 2009 6:56 pm

If UH wins on Saturday, I believe that it would be their first win this season against a team with a winning record. I am not so thrilled by our success, but a win is a win. I would be a lot more of a believer if we can beat Navy, a team with a winning record.

  150. Garret November 22, 2009 6:57 pm

The strange thing is that Enos started the season well–he made 6 out of 7 in UH’s first four games, with his only miss the one in the UNLV game that was not his fault. Something has obviously happened since then, since he is 4 out of 10 after that start.

  151. Garret November 22, 2009 6:59 pm

    buffoman,

I was about to correct you because the last time I checked Central Arkansas was having a good year. However, they are on a losing streak and are 5-6 right now, so you are correct.

I remember the talk about UCA after the season opener and several people here said that they would be at the top of their conference after their good showing. However, the preseason polls turned out to be correct in UCA’s case…and UH will end up 5th in the WAC so the preseason polls were correct there also.

  152. Stretch November 22, 2009 7:01 pm

Opening line for Saturday is UH 7-1/2 point underdogs. Can easily overcome that.

  153. Garret November 22, 2009 7:06 pm

UH always has a chance at home. I’ve witnessed so many games where UH played over their heads to stay with a favored team, winning some and losing some. The thing is, normally the favored team is much bigger and stronger and faster (like Big 10 teams), but in this case UH probably has the bigger athletes and won’t get worn down in the second half like in some past games.

The key will be execution and the turnover battle. Execution is needed especially in discipline on D and tackling. When each player has a responsibility and the D is spread out, a missed tackle is much more damaging than when a team runs a power rushing game and the D is swarming to one spot.

  154. Garret November 22, 2009 7:11 pm

Looking back at the UNLV game quotes, my memory was correct.

About how the only FG that Enos has missed this season (he’s 4-for-5) was a 31-yard attempt in this game where the coaches should have called timeout since they got the FG team on the field too late, Tormey said:
“With the clock ticking, what we should have done was call time out. We were late in getting out there, so we should have just called a timeout.” (HA)

About their missed opportunities were the biggest factor in the loss, Mac said:
“In my mind, when you analyze the UNLV game, it really didn’t come down to that last play. We had our opportunities to win that game, the last play just happened to be the last play. The problems we faced in winning this game, number one, was in the red zone. We had opportunities to score, dropped the ball in the end zone. We got three points when we should have gotten 14. We were late coming on to the field to kick a field goal and missed it. It’s not the kickers fault. We’ve got to finish.” (UH)

  155. Derek November 22, 2009 7:27 pm

Kicking well or not is mostly between the ears. The obvious is whether a kicker has a strong leg or not, and thus his range. Accuracy is the result of repetition in practice everyday and working from different yardages and different angles. During games, the kicker should mirror his practice routines and focus only on that particular kick. Any kick he tries in the game should have already been tried in practice many times over. Granted there are different types of kickers. Some kickers are low, line drives type of kickers. Others hit it high naturally. I prefer a kicker that has a good high lift to the kick..someone who gets the kick up quickly. It would minimize blocked kicks for sure. You cannot know what’s in the mind of a kicker. Some don’t kick well under the lights, while others are not fazed and actually enjoy being under pressure. Dan Kelly did great in 2007, but did not have a good season in 2008.
He was a good kicker I thought, but I think Kelly’s technique got worse
last year as our team struggled to win games and it more pressure on him. In 2007, it was a magical season and he made big kick after big kick to help us toward an undefeated season. As the teams’ and fans’ confidence sky rocketed, Kelly sure contributed to the cause. It was like a wave that kept bigger and bigger. Now, Houston, we have a problem!!!
I know we don’t have a kicking coach, but I’m sure we can get a volunteer coach. What about Peter Kim. He’s around.

  156. Garret November 22, 2009 7:35 pm

Article about Navy’s visit to play UH.

The Midshipmen’s visit to Hawaii should be an emotional one for coach Ken Niumatalolo. He lettered three years as a quarterback at Hawaii and led the Warriors to their first bowl berth in 1989. This season he’s led Navy to a berth in the Texas Bowl.

  157. Garret November 22, 2009 7:37 pm

The Browns have a lot of injuries at LB, but they are going with vets instead of David Veikune. Veikune was on their special teams units and had gotten some reps at LB recently…but he was inactive today when Cleveland lost to Detroit.

Second-rounder David Veikune was also inactive, meaning two of their three second-round picks were inactive against the worst team in the league. The Browns say Veikune is struggling to make the switch from a college defensive end to NFL linebacker. Yet, he can’t even play with the Browns having two starting linebackers out for the season.

Maybe they should have thought about the problems switching positions before taking Veikune. He came to the Browns as part of the trade of the No. 5 pick (Mark Sanchez) that also brought Alex Mack, Abe Elam, Kenyon Coleman and Brett Ratliff.

    UH rivalry:

Would we want to see this against a team in the WAC conference or an “outsider” such as UNLV.

Maybe, UH can have 2 rivals, one inside and the other outside, making it much more interesting. Any school with 2 rivals?

  160. OldDiver November 22, 2009 8:42 pm

Any O-line coaches out there? What is the best way to counter the cut block? I was thinking push their heads down and step on their backs. Maybe not!

  161. A-House November 22, 2009 8:56 pm

What does UH have to do to keep the opponents defense from breaking through the middle on PTAs and FGs?

IIRC, all of the “hurries” and “blocks” come right up the middle.

  162. PowderPuff November 22, 2009 8:58 pm

That was the most fun in Napa — ever. Thanks to ST, Ferd and Stretch for making the day soooo fun, I fell asleep at the dinner table. 🙂 Five wineries was a little too much, but oh well…you don’t do it everyday.

And the tailgate yesterday was awesome, seeing so many Tsaikos. Great to spend time with rich2176 and CRW. CRW, you are THE MAN…glad you made it back to D.C. in one piece.

Have a great week and Happy Thanksgiving. Go Warriors, keep rollin’.

  163. 3-Prong November 22, 2009 9:00 pm

ST: Can you confirm rumor that Coach Niumatalolo just bought a million dollar place in Manoa (party up the street this weekend?) Guess that Navy gig pays pretty well huh.

  164. PowderPuff November 22, 2009 9:01 pm

Oh, and Brew808 – big shout out to you!!! Great seeing you sir.

  165. RainbowCliff November 22, 2009 9:06 pm

Good evening Tsaiko Nation, made it in from a smooth Highway and Freeway ride from San Jose as a WIN is a WIN !

Had an AWESOME time with meeting many die hard Hawaii fans who came quite a distance to cheer our BOYS to a hard fought VICTORY !
Special thanks to Don Weir who made my trip a pleasant and UNIQUE experience !

Can’t wait when we sport the tuxedo’s together as we will be “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” with the flare for the “gift of gab” as all I can say about Dr. Weir “A First Class Gentlemen and BRILLANT fund raiser !

Rich2176 as always kind sir a GREAT time with you as I have that classic shot of you golfing off the Heineken bottle tee as I will send it to you asap.

Garret and Brew808: Great time gentlemen at the Korean BBQ Buffet in Sunnyvale California as Rhonda and I REALLY enjoyed a scrumpous buffet with that stove table and ALL the delicious meats. Garret, enjoyed the squid as I took some home and the teriyake as I am eating it right now as I type, DELICIOUS !

ST: Mahalo kind sir for the photo with Janet as I must admit your photo eye really captured the wonderful San Jose Hawaii tailgate atmosphere as it was truely a first class festivty with plenty of “PRIMO” all around in which $10.00 can get all you can drink as I was in the LINE bra !

Hukilau was so much FUN with many Hawaii fans from ALL over the world nestled together for story talking, net working, eating and drinking. Enjoyed both nights BUT parking is a %#*^*!

Hope our boys can keep the momentum going as Navy is a whole different ball game then San Jose as our play, focus, discipline, execution and BIG play making ability has to be there IF we are going to win against the midshipmen as they don’t play with the execution and running game.

Mahalo to ALL of you as we continue to support our BOYS through thick and thin. TWO games remain against ALL odds BUT it is in Hawaii and IF I had some elgibility left I wouldn’t want it any other way to play it in front of the “OHANA” at LOUD Aloha stadium !

Be there as I will be LOUD here in LA cheering our team ON !

    A HUI HO !

  166. Da Punchbowl Kid November 22, 2009 9:08 pm

    Hi PowderPuff!

    Stephen-
The second picture looks more like she’s deep in thought, as if trying to grasp the magnitude of what ever you were talking to her about. Am I right!? 😆

  167. Da Punchbowl Kid November 22, 2009 9:13 pm

    Howzit Braddah Cliff,
Looks like y’all had a wunnerful time this weekend. Glad you folks made it home safe and sound. And yup, A WIN IS A WIN! 😉

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  168. will-i-am November 22, 2009 9:13 pm

    Rivalry: #103

    UNLV is a great choice.

I think a weird trophy would be sweet.
    examples of current rivalry trophies:
    Paul Bunyan’s axe
    peace pipe trophy
    battle for the iron skillet
    the beehive boot
    the keg of nails
    wagon wheel
    old brass spittoon

The one thing I can think of that Hawaii and UNLV have in common is Sand. We have beaches. They have desert.

How about “The Bucket Of Sand” trophy?

  169. RainbowCliff November 22, 2009 9:28 pm

Howz It Mr. “A” House, I got a belated birthday gift for Massa Boy as it is on the same level that I gave the lunch bag to Mrs A House. Can you direct me on how to get it to him or would you prefer sending it to you good folks of Kailua fame !

Please tell Mrs. A House that I got the LOVELY leis’s she made for me and Rhonda as unfortunatly the box came last Friday before I was leaving for San Jose with ALL my mail being rerouted to the PO Box address as I get ready to move on up to Ladera Heights. I wish they came to me before the ceremony BUT a lot of my mail has been on the delay bases as moving and changing address can be challenging here in Los Angeles. I will save and wear them PROUDLYwhen I come up to Hawaii !

I know you will be there for the FINAL two games as your PRESCENCE will make ALL the difference with your strategic mind and voiciferous cheer !

Go Warriors and the GREAT Mr A House who is NO mouse as he get’s ready to jouse the midshipmen and send them home as a louse with laughter and cheer !

  170. RainbowCliff November 22, 2009 9:42 pm

Da Punchbowl Kid, greetings kind sir as ALWAYS a pleasure to be conversing with the “MASTER” of the blog !

San Jose was a lot of FUN as Nothern California Hawaiians KNOW how to throw a FIRST CLASS party with hukilau and tailgating OFF the chart !

Packed GOOD for this trip as the coastline is a LONG drive but the scenery is breath taking !

Clean air, beautiful mountains and clear skies BUT when it get’s cold no joke as ski cap and thermos are essential to have as Garret is INCREDIBLE wearing the slipppers with out a flinch of shake and shivers !

TWO games left kind sir as I KNOW you will be there with fellow Tsaikos cheering our team on !

Can we get a sell out or 35,000 is all to be expected ?

  171. RainbowCliff November 22, 2009 9:56 pm

12:00 midnight here in LA as I have just 30 minutes left to blog with you good folks. The energy drink and 5 hour energy supplement bottles are wearing off as I reccomend to any one who is driving over 5 hours a length of time. Caffine keeps you WIRE and focus !

Only 4 calories, sugar free and variety of flavors !

  172. RainbowCliff November 22, 2009 10:14 pm

Good Night Tsaiko Nation and pleasent dreams !

  173. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! November 22, 2009 10:25 pm

Nitey Nite, Rainbow Cliff! Your energy remains here long after the beverage wears off!

whooo. the Mack show was great. the island ventures show was even mo betta. great interview with Jim Donovan, reminded me that the man is on top of things in the athletics department, in all ways!

  175. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 11:31 pm

bottom line, even if coach can’twon’t/don’t wanna admit it to him/demselves, we lost to UNLV because they scored one more point than us, and our coaches made a late decision on going for the field goal. so trying to put a positive on that this week, and knowing that we gonna have to rekindle Enos’ mind, whatever it takes, its gonna takethe coaches to get our kicker’s mind right.

Willie’s right, its mechanics. some kicking coach gotta come help him out. not that he needs it, he needs a friendly face, das all. because our coaches are not friendly faces, if they wuz, we wouldn’t be talking about the kicking game. Kelly pointed out that he didn’t consider Coach a friendly face. so bottom line, anudda coach gotta come in and take up da mental slack for the kicker. imo.

the island ventures show was even mo betta. great interview with Jim Donovan, reminded me that the man is on top of things in the athletics department, in all ways!

It’s also a slap in the face kind of reminder of the situation Jim Donovan and the UH athletic department has to face in today’s world.

Funny thing is, winning = $$$$$, but to get to the winning involves MORE red tape than I think most of us can fathom. It goes BEYOND recruiting and into the laps of the decision makers to provide the kind of environment for the athletic department to seek “winners” in coaches and in student athletes.

  177. Kazz November 22, 2009 11:39 pm

    RE: UNLV loss…

Actually a “coulda/shoulda” FG to win the game is not the issue.

Dropped passes in the first half and the inability to stop the run in the second caused the loss.

    😎

  178. Kazz November 22, 2009 11:41 pm

Blaming the UNLV loss on a botched FG attempt is like blaming the last two traffic lights for being late to work when really you were the one to wake up late or you didn’t set your alarm the night before.

  179. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 11:45 pm

ok ok you’re right of course, in both above posts.

especially the “choosing winners” part. but like life, what is done is done. now we gotta get da guyz who we now have in place, everyone of them, to step up and produce. that is why i’m on coach to coach! i have seen it with my own eyes. we can change our future. its just a struggle to change the direction, then it gets easier.

  180. Kazz November 22, 2009 11:45 pm

    Final thought for the evening…

If we play really well against Navy and Wisconsin and never give up, I may have a special place in my memory banks for this 2009 Warrior team right next to the 2007 Warrior team in terms of “GUTS”.

Finishing the season 5-8 or 6-7 with a tremendous effort to close the year says alot about what we’re able to do to start 2010 right.

Finishing the season with a Hawaii Bowl appearance… same.

Finish with a Hawaii Bowl victory… my goodness…

  181. bighilofan2 November 22, 2009 11:52 pm

promised myself not to bachi things. positive thoughts positive thoughts.

agree 100% good nite all. i’m gonna sleep good after tonight’s shows.

gonna be feeling really good about life in the islands if coach can suck it up, inspire his coaches to suck it up and coach, and they all pull it off, players and all.

  184. wafan November 23, 2009 3:21 am

    Good Monday morning everyone!

  185. wafan November 23, 2009 3:24 am

Remember why we have this short week! We need to count our blessings and learn from our difficulties.

For those traveling to see family have a great trip and visit!!!

I am *not* blaming the UNLV loss on the late FG decision, as it was one of a lot of factors in the game. However, for people criticizing Enos, I just wanted to point out that not all of the misses this season were his fault. When you look at the stats for a kicker, there are several factors in his performance that he has no control over.

  187. bighilofan2 November 23, 2009 5:58 am

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

Its Monday. Time to focus on Navy. Practice with the JUGS.

    Go Warriors!

  188. bighilofan2 November 23, 2009 6:08 am

    thanks for the email Brew.

    Slugger, thanks. 😆

  189. Pomai November 23, 2009 6:47 am

bhf not only with the JUGS but extra throws with the QB’s they need to play catch more than just in practice.

  190. bighilofan2 November 23, 2009 7:04 am

    Pomai,

June Jones said off the cuff, when asked specifically and he started counting in front of the reporter, that his backup qb threw 68 reps that practice. not that i could give a rip about JJ anymore, but he did have a score sheet. maybe he keeps count on the little things, like qb off his mark at 30 yards, wr drops at 20 yards, slot drops at 8 yards, etc. he’s learning over there too. not like he’s still keeping himself in the same mind frame or anything. maybe our coaches have a score sheet too. not that i saw anybody writing anything down or sumtin when i went to 2 practices this year. i admit, haven’t been to any practice since season started. maybe they all got cheatsheets now. or sumkina super memory pills so no need right down da small stuffs, pass down da memory genes to the Warriors. 😀

i’m just wondering, how many our backup qb throws in a practice?

  191. bighilofan2 November 23, 2009 7:07 am

da way i sees it, our job is to fire up da coaches and players.

    FLAME ON!

    Go Warriors.

  192. bighilofan2 November 23, 2009 7:09 am

Susan was watching Redskins football yesterday. She said lots of excitement, no turn da channel. so i turned da channel to da Hawaii replay. Mo action. Mo suspense! More surprises! 😆

I hope ST interviews Steven Stepter before season ends. I wonder how the Crenshaw kid is loving Hawaii. Heard he has some ties to San Jose too. two years ago in the news, the players were all excited about his speed and strength. I’m wondering how things have progressed for him since then. gotta show that kid some love! let him know its all good with us in Warrior Nation.

  202. bighilofan2 November 23, 2009 7:24 am

    ST

I’m wondering if grades are a factor coaches consider in deciding who plays. i mean for players whose grades haven’t come in yet, but there is mumblings.

i’m wondering if there is disagreements among coaches about who plays.

  203. bighilofan2 November 23, 2009 7:25 am
