Mrs. A-House wins 2 tickets

16370_1266157663299_1510518098_691093_8348055_nThe very beautiful and funny Avis Yasumura, one of the most honest people in the medical profession, has drawn the winning name . . . Mrs. A-House. She wins two tickets to the UH-Wisconsin game.

Thanks for playing. We’ll have another drawing tomorrow.

Thanks again to Blaze Soares for serving as our Warrior Beat Show guest today.

And congrats to our ticket winners: Tombo Ahi and Made In Hawaii.

* * * * *

By the way, Blaze has that Madonna-like, first-name-only recognition. Same as Colt, Davone, Nate, Niko, June, Rocky, Timmy, Leila. Any others?

* * * * *

Again, a  little warning, please, on the pop-up audio ads on this blog. Sheesh. Almost spilled my Scope again.

* * * * *

One of many things  about me that makes my kids cringe — besides singing, skipping in malls, bribing their teachers — is a lack of restraint.

Yesterday, I saw a car in Packer-gold with a Packer logo and the license: “Packer.” There also was a Wisconsin sticker. Wait … wait … BOING! The lightbulb went on. (Yes, in my world, lightbulbs make boing sounds when they go on.) I was thinking, Wisconsin-themed car … UH-Wisconsin game …

“No, Dad,” my son pleaded.

It was too late. At the red light, I jumped out — OK, sidled out — of the car, and approached the Packer car. I tapped on his window. The driver nearly spilled his coffee. (Apparently, knocking on a stranger’s car in traffic is the equivalent of a pop-up audio ad.) I told him I was with The Advertiser, it was Wisconsin week, blah-blah-blah, and I asked for his cell number. Then I went back to my car, where my son muttered something about having final proof that he was really adopted. (Sorry, kid, but you are ours biologically, and you  have a genetic timebomb  that might eventually make you sing, skip in malls, bribe teachers and approach strangers in traffic.)

Anyway, to make a long story even longer, I get this e-mail yesterday from Hugh Jones:

I was born in Madison and am Alumni of UW Madison but I’ve lived here 21 years, so I will be attending the game with my son wearing my Badger aloha shirt and my Warrior WAC champions T shirt underneath. I’m rather conflicted over this one surely.

I’ve seen them both times they’ve played out here, including Ron Dayne’s 300 plus yard game. The then named Rainbows played the Badgers in Camp Randall when I was in school before their renaissance and I think the Rainbows won the game with a spread offense. It was a cold day in November and we thought they would be pushovers but were not.

As for the truck, I also own 1 share of stock in the Packers so I can say that I’m a part owner of an NFL franchise 🙂

Warm regards

packer

    ST,

Is Blaze the all time champ when it comes to appearances on the Warrior Beat Show?

  12. rage777 December 1, 2009 6:54 am

There are tons more first name basis UH sports figures:

Tes, A.C. (not really a first name, but short), Samson, Angelica, Teeeeeeee, Yuval, Naveh (sp?), etc

  13. kaimiloa December 1, 2009 6:55 am

I love college ………I wish I were still there instead of heading to work.

  14. Stephen Tsai December 1, 2009 6:56 am

This will be Blaze’s second appearance on the show. He also has appeared once in the blog’s Q&A.
Lametrius Davis, Bob Nash and Colt Brennan also have made two appearances on the show.
I just realized Coach Mack has made only one visit.

Coach Mack has made two appearances.

Good morning Tsaikos. Belated congratulations to the Warriors and Wahines.

ST, many mahalos for the jersey. Looks super

  20. whitey December 1, 2009 7:03 am

Question for Blaze: Noticed that the defensive setup has changed, is it because the asst coaches are having more input???

  21. rage777 December 1, 2009 7:04 am

Thanks ST. I thought he was on here more than that. I have run out of questions to ask my fellow Castle alum. I will try to think of more later.

Tossed and turned all night- and finally woke up to the horror that Colt had been traded to KC. Then I realized that he went from being a regular Redskin to a Chief…
    It was still a nightmare…

  28. oldie December 1, 2009 7:36 am

    “I love college.”

Only memory of college and Wisconsin was taking a long bus ride from Northfield Minnesota to Beloit College for a basketball game in the dead of winter. I can still picture all the white stuff everywhere.

  29. Pomai December 1, 2009 7:40 am

Blaze what is the number one thing that you will take away from your college experience?

  30. Dusting December 1, 2009 7:44 am

    Great game Blaze!

  31. jm2375 December 1, 2009 7:48 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

“I love college.” Wuz talking to da keeed last night about college. Never too early to start, especially since we’re trying to convince a cousin from Miami to come to UH. 😆

  32. Gumby December 1, 2009 7:54 am

Question to Blaze: Is this your final year at UH or will you be able to play an additional year? If so, what would it take for you come suit up in a Hawaii uniform in 2010? It would be awesome to have you in Hawaii for one more full season.

  33. hilo65 December 1, 2009 7:56 am

I’ve known Hugh for years -he’s a good guy. In fact, I’m going to email him shortly.

If you’re going to approach a stranger, I don’t think you could have picked a better guy than Hugh. If you’re approaching strangers wearing other team’s colors, In the future, I don’t know… In Nawlins, for example, came across some rabid fans – “hawaii sucks…”

  36. tommui December 1, 2009 8:03 am

    I love college

But I really can’t remember that much about it – the courses, the profs, the grades and students.

But then, I graduated UH in 1954. I have been having senior moments since then! By the way, whom am I writing to? (dangling participle)

You musta ate your Wheaties this morning Mr. Tsai. Your blog post is lively and engaging, some fine writing going on there.

Madonna-like names? I immediately think of a VERY Madonna-like blogger, who, like Madonna, is very beautiful, very talented, and very stylish. Yes indeed, there’s no need for two names when everyone knows you as “Bulla”. 😆

  53. curveball December 1, 2009 8:22 am

Blaze..Has your leg injury bothered you much this year?

  54. Kazz December 1, 2009 8:29 am

    Blaze,

Could you tell us anything about what the possibility of you getting another year of eligibility is?

  55. Kazz December 1, 2009 8:33 am

    Blaze,

Against Navy, the defense had to play almost perfect “assignment football”. This week against a bigger and possibly stronger team, what is the new approach you guys on defense will have to take?

  56. Stretch December 1, 2009 8:34 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos!!

    I love college

Just heard on the radio that Kuehu is lost for the season. CRAP!!

  57. Kazz December 1, 2009 8:35 am

    Blaze,

Have you seen video already of the Wisconsin offensive line? If so, what sticks out to you besides their size?

  58. LRob December 1, 2009 8:36 am

    I love college!

  59. Kazz December 1, 2009 8:43 am

    ***Non-football***

Chawan msgs me… Shawna Kuehu out for the season with a torn ACL.

This is her second one this time on another leg.

Does the three game rule apply in other sports as far as a medical redshirt is concerned?

I think she knew what happened the moment she got hurt. She was visibly upset at the potential bad news when she finished watching the game on a wheelchair.

  61. chawan_cut December 1, 2009 8:48 am

    Blaze,
In ST’s article today, Coach called your playing effort as “Blaze style”. How would you describe how you play on the field?

  62. Howzit December 1, 2009 8:50 am

Can’t wait for Blaze’s interview. Should be real interesting. I love it. He is so nuts that I’m expecting something good!

ST – funny stuff. I guess we all have our “genetic timebombs.” Happy Birthday, Jojo…Happy Birthday, Slugger! Cheers to you on your special days.

Happy Birthday to Jojo and Slugger.

  67. Jack Flash December 1, 2009 9:01 am

    I love college.

Trying to win game tix for my relatives who recently moved here!

  68. RedZone December 1, 2009 9:03 am

You have to like a player with a name like Mana, Golden, Link, Simeon, Thadius, Delmar, Woody, Ollie, Koldene, and my favorite Itai.

  69. Pride. December 1, 2009 9:04 am

    Blaze,

Do you have a favorite football player that you try to emulate? If so who?

  70. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc December 1, 2009 9:07 am

Te amo collegio – obviously, I love college given the fact that I’ve attended five all totaled.

Question for Blaze: If you’d been totally responsible for calling the 4th & 1 play, what would you have done?

BTW – from this novice fan’s perspective, I enjoy the “run on 4th down” when the next first down is just inches away and the offense is deep into the other team’s territory.

Way late – off to work and back in about 14 hours.

  71. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 9:10 am

You were already a talented linebacker before you started playing collegiately, who was your position coach in high school? What lessons have you learned from him that helped to make you the player that you are today?

  74. RedZone December 1, 2009 9:11 am

Blaze what made you decide to take on a leadership role on the team?

  75. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 9:12 am

    Blaze…

“I love college.” and speaking of which… when are you scheduled to graduate? And in what area?

  76. Maukaman808 December 1, 2009 9:13 am

    I love college!

I should know, back in the day I was on the 9 year college plan at UH (at least I did graduate).

  77. Pomai December 1, 2009 9:13 am

Pride you crack me up LOL

  78. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 9:14 am

    Blaze…

If not a sixth year, will you be gunning for the next level? Have you spoken with anyone about the prospects?

  79. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 9:15 am

    Blaze…

You played an outstanding game on Saturday! It’s unfortunate that you’ve had an injury plagued college career in football. Would you say you are 100% 90% or otherwise, today?

  80. PONO December 1, 2009 9:16 am

I LOVE COLLEGE…COLLEGE TAKE ME BACK

  81. PONO December 1, 2009 9:17 am

    BLAZE,
Will you apply for a medical hardship to try and get a sixth year back?

  82. yessah December 1, 2009 9:17 am

    good morning everyone!

  83. Pride. December 1, 2009 9:18 am

I realize that it is difficult to predict our furtures, however where do you see yourself in ten years? What type of job or occupation would you like to be involved with?

  84. Pomai December 1, 2009 9:19 am

Well the house is cleaned (well sorta) the yard is done (well sorta) the car is washed (well sorta, it did rain last night) so I think I will watch Colt an company destroy AZ in the Sheraton Bowl again.

  92. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 9:34 am

Badgers have prototypical BCSized linemen and speed at the skill positions.
For you koolaid sniffers that attend–take note.
The next time you hear about a UH line-recruit and get deliriousily optimistic consider what you shall witness on Saturday.
Remember also, they can run and stomp as well as we can shout.
There are many Goliath’s in college football but rarely a Kawika….this SAT should be no different.
Aloha will Rock but the undersized-Warriors will get Knocked….

    WISCONSIN 38
    Hawaii 14

Rule #1 – Never, never, ever back down from a challenge.

No matter who challenges you. You may get beat up, you may go to the hospital, you may even get killed. But if you don’t back down, you stand tall and meet that challenge, and fight until the last ounce of energy is depleted from your body, you will be deemed a winner, and will earn the respect of many.

I believe that what you state in your post is the obvious. It doesn’t take a genius to see or to “view” the situation the way that you stated. For those of us that you claim are kool-aid drinkers, we’re not stupid and can see the situation as you see it. We are well aware that we are playing an opponent from the mighty Big 10 conference that excels in all sports not just football. We are well aware of the opponent’s tradition, fan support, as well as financial resources. We are well aware of the opponent’s superior speed, size, and athleic ability.

However because we know the game of football, we know that anything can happen on any given day. We feel that if we were to play the opponent twenty five times that we may be able to win one or two games. I realize that you don’t view it that way, but as bonafide kool-aid drinkers, we see it that way. Again, we do know that Wisconsin is probably the better ball team, most of the time.

However, here are a few reasons why we are hoping that this Saturday will be that one in twenty five chance that we win the ballgame.

1 – Wisconsin is on a very long road trip. No matter who you are, roadtrips are difficult.
2 – Because of the time difference. No matter what the coaches do to try to alleviate the problem, the Wisconsin players’ internal clock will be on Central Standard Time. The game will start at 10:30 P.M. and end at about 2:00 A.M. This will have some effect on the players, especially towardsthe end of the game.
3 – Although size, speed, athletic ability, and experince play a big part in the game, there are other factors that have an effect on the outcome also. The players still have to excecute, focus, adhere to their assignments, alignments, and play error free. We’re thinkin that perhaps they may lack in this area due to the time difference and excitement.
4 – Although the coaches may talk to the players and tell them to focus on the game. Some of the players may still be caught up with the fact that they are in Hawaii, the land of paradise. Although we as residents know that it in fact is not paradise but still a great place to live, the players don’t know that. They will still think that they are in paradise.
5 – One of the problems with playing at a Big 10 school is that the players, fans, and coaches think that football, west of the Mississppi is not “real” football. They think that ptheir cousins west play patty-cake and call it football. That is a dangerous way to think. Most eastern teams are absolutely shocked, when western teams are able to keep up with them. I guarantee you, that the Wisconsin players are taking Hawaii lightly. This leaves them exposed just a little.

Those factors do not guarantee Hawaii a win. But those factors tell us as die-hard fans that winninig is not impossible.

    And a few other keys:

1 – Win the turnover battle.
2 – Win two out of three phases of the game.
3 – Score ninety percent of the time that we get into the red zone.
4 – Play great sudden change football.
5 – Eliminate big plays against us and make big plays against them in special teams.
6 – Eliminate stupid, selfish penalties. Play with discipline.

The factors that we discussed earlier, along with the keys listed above will give us a chance to win. If that makes me a kool-aid drinker, then that’s what I am.

By the way westsideview. I agree with you, that is a “mighty big” offensive line that we are facing this week. But our boys will not back down.

  137. Kazz December 1, 2009 12:29 pm

The pain makes the good stuff seem oh soooo much better.

I had a hard time trying to enjoy the win over Navy immediately after the game, but BG and Kekoa had to pull me back down to reality… The reality is we won when we were not supposed to.

Now, back on the wagon of concern and obsession. I am not a coach and I am not a player so I have nothing in my grasp of having a positive outcome on the game. I’ve been told to let it go, but I cannot.

Stories are meant to be told. One is unfolding right before our eyes. With SMU accepting the Hawaii Bowl as their post season game, it’s too easy to not think we’d overcome another challenge, a monster challenge in Wisconsin. We’ve taken down BIG 10 teams before, but Wisconsin has shown us before in 2005 that we were not ready, yet…

Wisconsin ain’t no Georgia or Florida, not by a long shot, but obviously Wisconsin ain’t no Utah State or Navy either.

We had a good game plan against an offense in which we knew what basic element we were going to face, and that is the run. We will face it again, but with a somewhat equal threat and that is the pass. Me thinks we’re gonna have to chance it and play some man to man in this game. Considering the cushion we give most of the time in our secondary, we cannot have them big big chunks of yardage in the air of play-action passes because their ground game will already do this, not to mention the time needed on the clock for us to score.

If we can ride out the first few waves of offense from the Badgers and get our defense comfortable, then we get chance… then there is the second half to deal with. A great second half start in one game doesn’t ensure consistency when it will really matter, but it’s a start.
We played 4 good quarters of football so far… let’s play 8.

  141. Kazz December 1, 2009 12:47 pm

    RedZone,

Kuehu was getting there. With her being away from organized basketball for about a year, you can tell she was still trying to find her shot. She had the attempts, but not the baskets to show for it. Had she not gotten injured I think we were about two games or so from seeing her make those much needed shots. However in the mean time, she was valuable on defense, individually speaking. Her multiple blocks and steals in timely portions of the games she played showed her Bball IQ and most of all my favorite, she showed some attitude!!! The kind of “this is my ball and I’m taking it” kind of “titta” attitude!!! I LIKE DAT SIR!!!!!!!!!!!

She’ll be missed this season. I dunno how basketball works, but she better get a medical redshirt from the NCAA if she decides to apply for it.

The team looked a little out of it after she went down hard, I think everyone on that team knows each other by now and with Kuehu’s high school injury it was evident where the concern was.

But I still feel good about this team once conference play begins. They’ve been enjoyable to watch as I’m seeing a new fire lit under them. The players seem to have more confidence, sometimes a little too much as evident by the turnovers, which are still causing some problems… and the players seem to really play with a true purpose. This is something proper coaching and motivation does for a team…

The Xs and Os stuff will improve as the season goes along such as their ability to set good screens for players like Galdones to get open and blast a 3ptr. The positive foundation seems to be in place, now keeping it all together while improving on the court is the next step.

  142. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 12:48 pm

When the Warriors upset Wisconsin and take to the playing field against SMU… the road to this particular Sheraton Hawaii Bowl game which starting in 1999… for both teams would make a heck of a mini-series. But who’d play JJ and who’d play Mack? Colt? Rolo?

  175. BG December 1, 2009 2:13 pm

BTW. I’m reading posts which say that Wiscy is “bigger, stronger, faster”. Why do we subscribe to that? Not saying it’s not be true, but I haven’t found anywhere that substantiates that. Statistically, I compare the starting lineups side by side and I don’t see any startling differences. They may have more height, but we’re not playing basketball. I remember in the 70’s, it wasn’t uncommon for Hawaii to be outweighed 40 lbs per player across the line. Not so now.

So where do these assertions come from? How many defensive and offensive linemen have been drafted from Wiscy and Hawaii in the past 3-4 years? I haven’t a clue…just asking.

  195. Pride. December 1, 2009 2:54 pm

One of the keys to having a real good football team is senior leadership. We really didn’t have that many retuning seniors who were seasoned starters. Probably only Fonoti on defense and Estes on offense. Even though there were a few more seniors on offense who started the year before, they weren’t seasoned starters who could comfortably step into leadership roles right as the season started.

I was looking forward to the season to see how this would play out. It could have gone either way, but I had hoped that it would all work itself out in a positive manner. Where the seniors would find themselves roles as leaders on the team.

It’s been gratifying to watch and observe the maturation process of the senior class as they found roles for themselves as good, contributing ballplayers, as well as senior leaders.

Watching the game against Navy, we could see that the seniors lead by example. Names like Tufaga, Soares, Estes, Kiesel-Kauhane, Hisatake, Ieru, Kia, Savaigaea, and Wright-Jackson, jumped out and led the Warriors with authority.

These seniors could have checked out mentally five games ago But they chose to stay and fight to put the Warriors in position to compete this Saturday. As a loyal fan, I thank them for that.

Football isn’t about height. It’s about leverage.

Had a coach who we thought needed to be locked up in the Kaneohe looney bin. He walked around repeating to himself, leverage, balance, leverage, balance, leverage, balance, leverage, balance, laverage, balance, leverage, balance, leverage, balance. He kind of did a little dance with his hands when he said it too. We all thought he was a looney.

As a matter of fact I think of him everytime I see Koakane. Koakane reminds me of him. “Hey Koakane, have you ever been in the looney bin?”

Not so sure I would walk up to a stranger sitting in a car. A month ago a police officer was murdered while sitting in his car.

By the way, the guy who is suspected of murdering the four police officers this past Sunday, was himself shot by a Seattle police officer early this morning.

Worst part of this is that four people helped him in some way before and after the murders. Several of them were released by Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. If only they had been required to serve their full sentences.

The head coach for USA’s rugby team praised Leonard Peters.

As a defensive back, he has adapted quickly to rugby’s destructive side, and his tackling skills are “beyond exceptional”, in the opinion of his new boss.

“He has great footwork and he hits like a Mack truck,” added the former Argentina and US sevens player Caravelli.

“After he was traded from the Bears to the Vikings, he reached a crossroads in his career where he was not getting a lot of game time.

“His father is Samoan and he told him to look at rugby. He reached out to a mutual friend and said ‘Can I even try and play this sport?’ He said: ‘I know the coach’.

“He gave me a call and said this guy is very athletic, does not know how to play and has never seen rugby before, but we could give him a try.

“He came into one of our camps and was definitely a fish out of water.

“In five months he has made strides that, if you watched today, I don’t think you would be able to pick him out.”

  224. Garret December 1, 2009 4:44 pm

I love college. Heck, I love it so much that I went to 5 colleges for my 3 degrees and then taught in college for 7 years.

If I win I will give the tickets to the first person who pledges to send a $50 or more donation to Na Koa this week. That person can get a tax deduction and the Warriors program will get a little more $$.

    BG,

Take a closer look at the O-Line and D-Line and Recievers in the roster….there is an average of about 3-4″ taller than Hawaii and about 25-35lbs heavier than Hawaii…….a couple guys on the O-Line are 6’7 310+ lbs……

As to being faster and stronger than us?….I don’t know, I haven’t seen any statistics to confirm or deny it.

Anybody following the latest Tiger Woody updates? Oh, man. He’s a Tiger, alright.
And Wisconsin may be bigger or even stronger, but if 50,000 people are screaming for you on every play, it kinda evens things out. That’s what Hawaii had back in the late 70s, 80s – huge crowds pulling for the local boys.
Hope to see that on Saturday night. These are the games you live for.

IWWTHM: After two and a half months, we have signed the papers for our Texas home. My ailing brother still is in poor health, but Barbara and I are here more to support his wife – she has to provide full-time care for my brother. Miss all the Tsaikos!!!

  238. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 5:47 pm

It’s also refreshing to hear Blaze talk so highly of Coach Mack and the rest of the staff. I liked his response to going for it on 4th and inches, too.

I hope that Josh Quezada commits to the Warriors, as he would be a building block for the future that would really help the offense. I like UH competing for RBs, as this season (and seasons like 2006) has shown that RBs can really be productive in this offense. For those who don’t think that a highly rated RB would choose the run-and-shoot, we have a precedent:

Madill senior running back Darryl Fields has committed to Southern Methodist.

Fields picked the Mustangs despite having offers from several Big 12 teams including Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Colorado and both Kansas schools.

Fields also has offers from Arkansas, Rice and Tulsa among others.

The key to d is to play fast.

I drove past the stadium and the turf is still smoking from the Blaze.

  244. whitey December 1, 2009 6:03 pm

i think the d started to understand how they should be playing started with the usu game and since then, it has carried over with a smaller roller coaster effect. the navy game taught them about individual responsiblity and team results when they all perform their assignments. so how does this affect the wisconsin game??? defensively, the warriors will be very tough in the 1st half, but can they sustain??? this being the last game of the season will definitely give them a boost in the 1st half, and the coaches or coaching will determine the 2nd half. i like the warriors in a very close game and i think the kicker(s) will determine the game results.

  246. Garret December 1, 2009 6:03 pm

By the way, the C-USA team that goes to the Hawaii Bowl is responsible for *10,000* tickets, which will really help the attendance for the Hawaii Bowl. SMU knows they aren’t going to be able to have that many fans travel to Hawaii in this economy, so they are having donors buy up the 5,000 to 8,000 tickets their fans don’t use and they will donate the tickets to the military and/or community groups.

The funny thing is that if UH makes the Hawaii Bowl, the people that SMU gives the tickets to will probably cheer for UH! So, they will help UH get more fans to the Hawaii Bowl…nice.

Almost half of Wisconsin’s points have been in the second Qtr. If the Warriors can score fast a couple of times then work the possession clock for the remainder of the first half, they will be able to keep Wisconsin from ever getting their rhythm, especially in their passing game.

Our defense will need to come out fired up and shut Wisconsin down in the first quarter, getting the ball back to our Warrior Offense as often as possible. Need to get a lead to force Wisconsin into it’s passing game.

  289. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 7:44 pm

I was looking over some of Wisconsin’s losses and a glaring sore spot for Wisconsin is in their special teams. More specifically, their kicking units. They give up big yards against good returners. Mack will have to make sure the Special teams really focus on their returns and return blocking. They could be the deciding factor this Saturday.

Wisconsin literally dominated Ohio in possession and over all yards but Ohio intercepted two for TDs and their special teams returned a kickoff for a TD as well. In Wisconsin’s 31 – 13 loss, Special teams and Defense contributed for 21 or Ohio’s points.

Note: Wisconsin may be known for it’s running game but late in the season it has taken to the skies when trailing. Their QB can bomb it but does throw untimely interceptions.

  290. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 7:45 pm

This might be the game for Jovonte and Blount each to take one to the house. Can Chizzy Dimude return?

  291. madeinhawaii December 1, 2009 7:53 pm

Wisconsin’s secondary is also very suspect. As long as the Oline holds, our Warriors should be able to pick them apart and control the clock while moving down field. BUT, Wisconsin’s front 7 are unyielding as can be and getting a running game going against them may be seemingly impossible BUT, that doesn’t mean our Warriors should try at the onset. Get them to seal the holes and play tight without rushing to open up our passing, shovel and screen game.

Got to make them think that the Warriors will run whenever it looks like the Badgers might rush or go into pass coverage.

Badger’s big RB will try to shake off tacklers… this is when he seems most vulnerable for a strip and fumble. Hopefully our boys will be Johnny on the spot and relieve him of the arduous task of carrying that ball.

Just wanted to shout out to all of you that took the time to talk story with him and feed him ono grindz and greenies. He had a great time despite Navy loosing. Speaking of which…thanks to all of you who took my little wager (even if I did twist your arms A-House ohana)…no problem with paying up…A-Joe is coordinating my attire for the t-gater…I’ll be there between 12-1 since I have some things to take care of before then. KHON article about the Warriors being one win away from facing JJ in the Hawaii bowl.

“If we could win this one we get to go to a bowl game and the bowl game is against June Jones and SMU,” said UH Athletic Director Jim Donovan. “You got to give credit to coach McMackin, his staff and the players to put themselves in this situation so on Saturday night we can play for all the marbles.”

“That would be a dream match-up,” said Sheraton Hawaii Bowl Executive Director David Matlin of the possible UH-SMU match-up. “Most people thought we couldn’t top Hawaii-Notre Dame (last year) but I think this does.”

“If we would have that crowd come out again and help cheer us on and be that twelfth man you never know what could happen,” said Donovan.

As of Tuesday morning about 34,000 tickets had been sold for the Wisconsin game. UH officials are hoping for a turnout of 40,000 or more by the time kickoff rolls around at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

“A lot of that depends on weather on the day of the game,” Donovan told Khon2. “We got our fingers crossed that we’ll have a great crowd.”

    To iwwthm on # 227,

If the WR (with a 10″ advantage) catches the ball 1 and 1/2 to 2 feet above the DB, it’s not ONLY about height but rather, athleticism and perhaps timing.

If Mouton was defending, we would have beaten Nevada hands down
even if Ryan would be spotting him a 5″ advantage.

The Escondido gal who claims an alleged affair with Tiger is not the same woman reported first by the tabloid Washington Post and later posted on the CNN site.

    Ralph,

Yes, the media focused on a different woman for awhile, but now the woman from Escondido has emerged. Tiger’s voicemail to her is now on a magazine’s website–where he asks her to take her name off her phone because his wife went through his phone.

Two other women are apparently being mentioned also, including the original woman the media reported.

Good Morning Tsaiko Nation, Congrats to Mrs. A House on winning the tickets and Mahalo to “made in hawaii” for the GREAT clip of classic jim leahy and a young Dick Tomey giving us a thrilling win over Wisconsin in 86. I was 5 years away from you folks as the news of this wonderful win hit the mainland with a happy surprise. Enjoyed it !

Will be in Irvine tonight cheering on my old team the bows as this game will either make them 3-3 or 2-4 coming back home. 10 players is all Bob has and it is going to be 10 players and coaches to MAYBE come out with a win. Irvine is going to be deliberate in their approach with ball posession and clock management.

Bob has to have GREAT patience, win the battle of the boards and stay out of foul trouble. I am hoping to see Flemming STEP IT UP as inconsistentcy from the star player will not get it done. Anteaters like to execute and Wise on the block is no slouch. Man to man defense he should start off with BUT I won’t be surprise if he goes into a zone because of foul trouble and execution from Irvine. Bows need to WIN for confidence sake as Irvine is not consider a TOP basketball program in LA as UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, Northridge and Fullerton are pretty much parity in that pecking order.

3 days away from the BIG game as 38,000 fans with possibility to 46,000 is GREAT news as I will be their in spirit loud and clear from Los Angeles. Have a terrific morning Tsaiko Nation as I am off to Magic’s as Chicage and new Jersey are looking for me after draining that jumper from top of the key last week to send them home “despaired” as the last words to them before I left “you just lost to a rock” in which they looked so dumb founded and surprise. I MUA WARRIORS !
