Seasons like this make reporters long for the good ol’ days, when sport media relations directors published media guides, set up interviews and, in general, were somewhat helpful.
By choice, four WAC schools didn’t print football media guides this year; by rule, none will next year. Boise State doesn’t make its players available to media from an upcoming opponent’s area, and this year, it staged the one and only teleconference with its head coach at the same time Hawai‘i print reporters were on planes returning from a road game. Problem? Tough taters.
Which is why local (and out-of-state) media appreciate UH’s Derek Inouchi, although we would never dare tell him that. Last week, he set up interviews for Idaho Statesman reporters. He also keeps fans up to date with tweets and Facebook reports. And he has been instrumental in allowing head coach Greg McMackin to keep practices open to the public. Certain fans might gripe about the Warriors’ record, but UH is probably one of the few Division I-A schools that allows open practices. They even tolerate an old-timer who once yelled at the offensive linemen during practice. For that freedom, give thanks to Inouchi.

It is nice that Derek Inouchi has been so helpful with the media. That helps provide better coverage of the Warriors, which can pay off for the exposure the team gets by the media.

So, it sounds like that Miah Ostrowski says that when JJ left he had to give up his plans to play basketball and football at UH…either he just assumed that with zero conversations with his coaches (I find that unlikely), or he was told to focus on football.

All week, we only get to see one half of the puzzle. It’s interesting to see what works and what doesn’t work.
That’s why I always like to see people’s pre-game suggestions.
For instance, with the Pistol, which is a four-wide but features all of the run-option elements, how would you defend it.
You can’t really put eight in the box, because the formation is both wide and deep (the back is at least 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage).

Rausch probably would have been the opening starter last year, except he had a difficult practice at Aloha Stadium, largely because of his sore arm. In hindsight, UH should have waited longer to announce a starting quarterback. Or not announce one at all.

We need to be smart this weekend. Is it asking too much to have the right personnel on the field.
I don’t want to see Pilares or Taylor running routes 40 yards down the field.
I don’t want to see Leon catch a shovel pass or block.
I don’t want to see us stay with a 4 man line if they run over us. At least try 5 on the line and dare them to throw.
I don’t want to see us point at angles.
I don’t want to see kick-offs go out of bounds.
I don’t want to see our punt returners allow uncaught balls to roll another 25 yards.
I don’t want to see our kick returners catch a ball as it is about to go out of bounds.
I don’t want penalties to extend drives that otherwise would have been 3-and-out.
I don’t want to have to go another week without seeing Mike Tinoco on the field.
I don’t want to tell the coaches what players to use for each play, but I can’t help myself, so maybe this buttinski needs to speak with Derek Inouchi. 🙂

I did a breakdown, and, even, with Rodney Bradley, the Warriors had difficulty completing passes to the wideouts on streak patterns. It’s almost better to just run slants, inside screens and hitches.
Agreed. And Pilares and Tyalor are both good with that stuff, although I think Pilares grips the ball better.
Interesting stats:
In Nevada’s first 3 games, all losses, they passed 53% of the time and averaged 13 points.
In Nevada’s last 4 games, all wins, the ran 71% of the time and averaged 51 points.

How many times can you recall a UH player shooting a gap and making a play?
I can recall Spencer Smith making a play behind the line of scrimmage, I think in the Idaho game, but that’s about it.
We need to protect our backers so they can get a head of steam and plow toward a gap in the line in the hopes of forcing a fumble.
I’m taking Ault off of my Christmas card list. He stopped taking my calls. I think he has caller id, either that or Peterson tipped him off. I wanted to continue to bait him some more to pass the ball. I smell a conspiracy 🙂

One way to stop the run is to SCORE points EARLY! If we can get a 10-14 point lead on Nevada, they may feel forced to throw to catch up.
That was the pattern of their three early losses. They got behind….then had to throw to catch up.
An early lead also allows us to RUN the ball more, which Green showed is possible last week.
But kind of hard to establish the run game when you’re behind by 20 points or more.

The injuries to the DT’s have proven to be problematic in keeping bodies off the LB’s, hence, no “gap shooting”

No Veikune this year but someone else needs to step up and put pressure on Kappy. Force him to throw off of his back foot. Do not let him turn up field.
Offense can’t start off slow like last year. It will be tough to come back like they did without Alexander and Lane. They need to control the ball and keep it away from Kappy.
Increase game speed. They have been getting better on d but the offense and special teams need to step it up.
to avoid some confusion, i hope we have worked towards simplifying our pass patterns, reads, etc.
sure we need to go long every now and then. but, we lost two fast and furious guys this year in bradley and lane. so lets use our strengths to our advantage. i still think pilares should go back to slot and let the others prove themselves.
receivers go through slumps just like any other athlete. pilares just needs time to work it out. i think he needs to focus on the first two priorities, one, run the proper and a precise route to get open and two, catch the ball. the yac will come, it seems that he is jumping ahead of the first two essentials to get more yac.
i agree. pilares is a RB or slot, not a WR.

…at work today. An “emergency” with a program accessing a server for data. Lotsa variables…and I haven’t packed one thing for my 7-day cruise yet. But the good thing about Hawaii cruises–just throw everything in the suitcase and no worry about the hand-carry getting through TSA. No flying, no airport!
If I forget something–just take a shuttle in Kahului, Hilo, or Nawiliwili to a store like Wal-Mart. Don’t know about Kona since I usually stay aboard. Yeah, I dress myself at Wal-Mart for local cruises… 😐
What would Coach Peterson say if they ran the table and were NOT selected to a BCS game becasue of “strength of schedule”. Second consecutive year!!
More ammo for Boise St to move to the MWC!!! But, they will not have Benny to “soften” their schedule.
Would be funny if MWC expands then find out that they are not happy with it. Then ADs secretly meet together decide to break away then form new Alpine Conference.
“If it ain’t broke… don’t fix it” will be the new MWC motto after they expand and dissension and dissatisfaction starts to show their ugly faces, like the old WAC did.

Good morning folks! Every day we should be grateful. Grateful for everything. Everyday is a good day….and talk Warior football and college football, and the NFL the best time of the year. I’m having my coffee at McDonald’s this morning and reading the Star Bulletin football fever picks by the panel. To my surprise, Bobby Curran and Robert Kekaula both pick Nevada over Hawaii. The surprise is that they are the Warriors radio broadcast team and they don’t feel that Hawaii has a prayer to winning that game. It tells me that they don’t think we are competitive because if we were, Robert and Bobby would pick Hawaii if they have a chance to win. But they are right. There is no way Hawaii is going to win this game. It’s pretty bad when our announcers don’t think we can win. I thought that no matter what, the Hawaii team announcers would always back the team to win. Isn’t it ironic? Sell that to the coaches and players that the announcers are picking them to lose.
Not a good situation to me. If I was a player it would be a slap in the face. Credit for Perry and Price for always taking Hawaii to win.
When was the last time Oklahoma and Virginia Tech lose 3 games by this time of the year and out of it for the BCS chase? There’s a good chance Boise St., TCU, and Cincinnati go undefeated and all make it to the BCS. Boise St.’s test is with Nevada, TCU w/ Utah, and Cincy w/ Pittsburgh. I feel Iowa will lose at least one game. Texas might lose this week at Oklahoma St. Florida or Alabama will lose to each other or along the way. Wouldn’t it be interesting if only Boise and TCU are the only undefeated teams? Should they be playing each other in the National Championship game? Stranger things have happened.
Would Boise St. want to join the Mountain West? Commissioner Carl Benson is a Boise graduate and I don’t think he would want that or he might lose his job! If it was me, I would wish Boise St., Hawaii, Nevada, and Fresno St. all join the MWC, get 2 divisions and the 2 divisons play a conference title game. MWC teams that come to Hawaii get the Hawaii exception and play an extra home game to pad their revenue to help offset the trip to Hawaii. The “new” MWC would be BCS conference worthy for sure and get a big payday and bigger TV revenue too boot.
Tampa Bay and St. Louis are on target to finish the season winless. Cleveland and Oakland are just behind them. The Titans are winless now too, but they should win soon. The surprise so far is the Denver Broncos. I like their blend of offense and defense. Coach McDaniel is a shoo in for coach of the year at this point. Watch for the 49ers this weekend against the Colts….surprise!

If TCU and Bosie St were the only undefeated teams at seasons end, I doubt that the pollsters and BCS will rank them #1 and #2 as this would totally destroy the “myth” of the BCS and its conference members.
It would, however, be a strong case for the BCS to be dismantled and go to a truly objective ranking and playing for the national championship between # 1 and #2.
I still state my case that certain members of the BCS matched Georgia, whom I thought was really the #1 team, and Hawaii just so Georgia would “trash” Hawaii and support their contention that mid-major teams are not worth their salt.
Speaking of the Sugar Bowl, I recently learned that the officials for the Sugar Bowl, a month before the game, unanimously agreed NOT to call any off-sides on Georgia. Their penalty was they would not be able to “call” any remaining bowl games in 2008. But, there were only 2 or 3 more games left and all had officials assigned to them which meant that their penalty was not even a slap on the wrist.
Come to think, who, within the BCS, selects officials for each BCS game and where do the “officials” come from? Did any WAC official officiate any BCS game in 2008? Also, who decides which teams face off for all the BCS games?
And, you thought “monolopy” existed only in big business, the Big 5 in Hawaii, and a game!!

I also believe the top 5 or 6 teams in the WAC and MWC forming a new conference will be a bigger, stronger attraction for a possible automatic entry into the BCS games as the Big East has fallen on tough times the past 2 years. Especially, when 3 top teams bolted for the ACC.
The WAC/MWC could be the 6th BCS game or replace the Big East for the current 5 games. There will few if any undefeated teams in this new conference.
My hope is still that someday the PAC 10 will invite UH to join their conference. No harm in dreaming/wishing. BTW, why does UCLA not want to play football against Hawaii? They do in other sports! A “home ‘n home” series would benefit both schools.
Re-What I want to see in the Nevada game among other things…
I want to read players, after UH beats Nevada, quoting Coach Mack as giving an epic pregame speech. I think this is important. The boys need to be fired up, and inspired. And a do-it-for-your school speech, with Coach Mack reciting something emotional could raise the players adrenaline levels. Again, I think this important and remedial.
When Coach Jones was here oftentimes you’d here players raving at the type of pregame speeches he gave to his players. Some, I understand from reading on the net,or if I remember correctly, he incorporated 17th century English literature in jacking up his players, which oftentimes Coach Jones could weave a pregame speech that played a big part of the players starting the game with a higher level of intensity.
Coach Mack could do the likewise.
Additionally,on the sidelines before the game the coaches should show some comradeship amongst themselves. I think the players feed off on this emotion, too. Currently before games the coaches wear these expressions of being like pit bosses in a casino, with their long faces and solemn looks that are absent of emotion that I don’t think it’s inspiring to the players.
A little pep from the coaches I think would go a long way.
Small little things, as mentioned above, can have an effect on the players frame of mind that I wish the Coach Mack would explore. It’s not only the X’s and O’s, as I understand, for there’s a lot of psychology, too, that has can have an effect of the players.
Here’s hoping the Warriors win against Nevada.

Assuming that UH will be looking for high school RBs in the 2011 recruiting class, they should go to the state of Texas. I’ve followed Texas recruiting since 1985 and do not think that I have *ever* seen so many D-IA recruits. Out of the top 150 recruits in the country according to ESPN, 5 of them are RBs in the state of Texas. The big-name schools will battle over those guys (Texas will offer 1, maybe 2 of them) and a lot of other excellent RBs that would normally get a lot of attention and offers will have to go out of state.
If a player has to go out of state, then UH stands a better chance. Since Mac wants a Poly or Hawaii tie to recruits, it should be noted that one RB recruit is at Euless Trinity…the high school UH practiced at earlier this season.
In the past years with JJ, we had 1 maybe 2 chances for an upset against a USC or a Boise St etc every year.
The high point this year is that we since we are at the bottom of the bucket in the WAC (grrrr makes me cringe to even have to admit that) we have 6 more games left to pull an upset.
gotta look for the bright side right. =)

Texas is a beast of a state that produces very good talent. I would think with Mack having coached at T-Tech he would have some connections in that state to go after some recruits.

Sad to say, no chance for the Pac-10 and basically no chance for the MWC to invite UH. Conferences make their money on football and men’s basketball…and UH doesn’t have the power in either sport to overcome the heavy travel costs to Hawaii. I think that 6 MWC teams can bus to games at Boise, so adding them would keep travel costs down. Sending women’s basketball, soccer, and other nonrevenue teams to Hawaii is really hurting WAC team’s budgets and the MWC teams already left UH behind because of that.
The way to make UH attractive to a conference is to win. Winning brings in all kinds of revenue (for example, the NCAA men’s basketball tournament pays big bucks to a conference when a team from their conference wins games) and attracts the TV networks. If the conferences are going to have some shifts and start grabbing teams around 2011, it would be good if UH had solid football and men’s basketball teams on its side…
Bottom line: Win the WAC, then UH can end up in a better conference situation over the next few decades. End up in the bottom half of the WAC with travel costs skyrocketing then UH will be left behind with the dregs of the WAC.

If MWC expands, itll be only to get the “temporary BCS Conference” standing. If they get the permanent standing as a BCS as they are pushing for now, nobody in the conference is going to complain one bit.

I hope that Mac and other UH coaches with ties to Texas look at that state for RBs in the 2011 class. This is an unusual year where there are so many good RBs that many will be forced to go out of state. So, UH can use their ties to schools in Texas like Euless Trinity to get a RB that might not look at UH in a normal year…since a Texas or Oklahoma might have recruited them in a normal year.
2011 is a tough year to be a RB recruit in Texas…and a good year to recruit in Texas!
It would take Hawaii nothing short of a miracle to get into the MWC…and a solid commandment from god to get us into the PAC-10
Even Boise St. has no guarantees that they will get into any other conference like the MWC and they have been a dominating team in the WAC and well respected in the nation. I think they have consistently been in the top 25 over the past 5-6 years if im not mistaken.
If anyone has a shot to move out of the WAC it will probably be Boise St and maybe even Fresno.

A conferance full of strong teams that recruit in the same area only means a 8-4 record for everybody.
MWC is not interested in UH, nobody else too, but maybe the Big West will accept us if we decide to go that way.

Conference vs school: who gets the lion share of TV proceeds for any sport?
Is it true that BCS payout to a BCS school is much larger than a mid-major school in a BCS game. Recall somewhere that Georgia got $17 million and UH got $5 or $6 million for the 2008 Sugar Bowl. That would seem awlfully unfair. Or, was it that the WAC got the $17 million and UH got $5-6 million?
we need more type of running plays to attract the very good high school runners. i believe we have but 6 running plays. everything at UH is pass first. that’s why we need either more running plays or a big back like Wes Keliikipi, Regan Mauia or Nate who can block and break tackles and get the 1 or 2 yards for a first down or td. with the threat to a running game, the passing will open up. i don’t know if we even have a “student body right or left”. we don’t have to run on every play and the ratio still can be 75/25. we must take what the opposing team gives us. if they give us the run by keying on the pass, then obviously, we have to take advantage of it. we are tooo one dimentional. a former coach at UH once said if you cannot gain 1 yard when you need it, then something is wrong or something of that matter.
Gazing at ST’s pic of the Nevada stadium, I wonder how much it would cost to put a 3-level luxury area above the existing “press box” level at Aloha Stadium.
Speaking of Aloha Stadium, I got so disgusted at the lack of response by the stadum security staff that I called the Govenor’s office and filed a complaint about the lack of respect to the US flag by flying it in the “middle”. Guy I spoke with agreed with me that protocol says the US flag always flies on its own right. Aloha Stadium idiots fly UH flag on the right, US flag in the middle, and Hawaii flag on the far left. Correct sequence is US flag on the right, Hawaii flag in the middle, and UH flag on the left.

the MWC is trying to get “conditional/temporary acceptance” as a BCS conference with an automatic BCS bowl bid. The BCS has already committed to accepting the MWC if they meet the score.
This requires the MWC’s BCS “score” to be high enough. It is directly related to how many teams in your conference were ranked in the top 25 I ‘think’ in the past 5 years.
they are not in a hurry to add BSU because TCU is currently ranked above them and if they continue to rank in the top 10 and even go to a BCS bowl their “raw score” may be high enough w/o BSU.
If TCU gets knocked out and BSU gets into the top 10+a BCS berth they very well might need BSU to get their score high enough.
The MWC does not see the a “stronger” conference as a problem, rather it is to their advantage to create a stronger conference if it means being granted BCS Conference status. A designation of a BCS conference w/ the auto BCS bowl bid means that no matter who beats who in the conference, the champion will automatically go to the BCS + the $25 million dollars rather than the $6 million that a non-bcs school who goes to a bcs bowl gets.
Given the choice of ‘add BSU’ and face tougher in-conference schedule but get an automatic berth in a BCS bowl OR don’t add BSU, don’t get an auto bowl berth, less money from the bcs, and having to fight tooth and nail to get ranked high enough (basically having to go undefeated) is a pretty easy choice i think.
Off course if TCU does go to the BCS this year they might not need BSU…and
MWC has said publicly that “it will not add another team to the conference unless it guarantees their BCS score will be high enough to be granted the temporary BCS status”
Can Boise St’s addition do that? I dont know, some people think this year will determine whether Boise will be asked to join.
I’ve noticed how Under Armour has given more support to UH football in terms of cash and equipment and clothing than Nike did.
Come to think of it the MWC might invite these 3 teams to make it 12. Conference Championship would need to be added.

the MWC I think is trying to compare their strength to the Big East where teams who go like 9-3 and even worse sometimes get to a BCS. I don’t think MWC is realistically expecting to be the BCS conference like the Big 12 or SEC where running the table in that conference almost always means you are in the national title game.

Cincy is already in a BCS conference that generates MUCH more money via TV and men’s basketball tournment money. They have no reason to go to the MWC.

The Hawaii exception does *nothing* for non-revenue sports like I listed. An Athletic Department could have 20+ sports and only football and mbb make money…but the other teams still have to go to Hawaii and they do not get an extra game. So, the Hawaii exception just costs them a lot of money. Do you really think that the soccer team is bringing more than just the team?
I agree with you that the coaches chose Euless Trinity for recruiting purposes. I do not think that the coaches offered 2011 recruits there yet, but I expect that offers will be made.
Schools split the Conference TV deal money. Then each team might have their own deal like UH does with K5 and PPV.
Georgia made less money for making the Sugar Bowl than UH did! The numbers you put are way off. The entire SEC got $17 mil that year for being a BCS conference, split equally among its members. I believe that $9 mil went to the non-BCS conferences for UH making a BCS game, with something like $6 mil going to the WAC and UH getting $4.5 mil.
I’m not sure how the SEC splits up their money, but I follow the BCS money Texas gets. For making a BCS bowl their Athletic Department gets about $2 million more…which is MUCH less than what UH got! So, your numbers need to be flipped.
BCS Conferences get a much smaller payout for their second team in a BCS game. I looked it up a few years ago and it was $4.5 million then to the BCS Conference…much less than the $9 million that a non-BCS conference gets for making the game.
Big East is basketball country, Cincy made the change with Louisville in moving from the C USA to the Big East for fb and bb when Boston College jumped to the ACC with Miami, Fl.

Someone said it earlier and so I will sound redundant.
For Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific to be attractive to any bigger conference, it has to win, fill its stadium and arena on a consistant basis, travel well or better (like when we UNLV) or we cannot overcome the fact that it costs to come play here, even with the 13th game exemption.
That being said, as a State we dream big but cannot live up to the making of a reality of the dream. We barely support the team even when it’s winning and much, much less when it’s not successful. We nickel and dime our programs as there are no strong boosters around to pony up private dollars to do otherwise. We can’t simply blame the State as they have other obligations other than supporting athletics to the max as one would like to get top notch coaches, facilities, and ammenities.
So, as we survive in a conference that may be conceived as woeful, there is really no other reality as we dream. Never will we be invited into the Pac 10 and only devine inervention would have us in a mix with the MWC. Anger and frustration may be the only path, but really, to get out of that funk just accept what we have as winning consistently in renevue generating venues to packed houses will remain difficult at very best. The dollars simply are not and will not be there to do otherwise.

I think the forthcoming BCS season (2011) is a major increase in the amount of BCS funds to a BCS school. Somewhere in the $25/26 million mark. I am not sure how much the payout for the non-BCS schools would be but I would guess it is still way lower than what a BCS school would make.

SMU had 18 commits and it looked like they were being more successful than they had expected…so, the coaches had a talk with Connor Nichols and it was “mutually agreed” that the 3-star safety should look elsewhere if he wanted a chance to play. He just committed to La Tech. So, La Tech just got a good high school safety. Hard to imagine SMU has so many commits that they have to tell a 3-star safety that they have better recruits than him and he would benefit by going elsewhere.
This affects UH because La Tech just got a 6’3″, 195-pound safety that runs a 4.4 40 and has a 3.2 GPA so he should be a qualifier easily. La Tech now has 8 commits, but they will probably put together another good recruiting class. Their recruiting classes have been pretty good for the past 3 years, which is a big reason their team improved so much the past few years.

The WAC (or at least Karl Benson) was a big supporter of the new BCS deal and the WAC signed it early. The payout does increase for non-BCS schools, especially the guaranteed money that goes from the BCS to each non-BCS conference.

UA was one of the few to step up and give not only money but a lot of apparel. Nike was willing to give apparel, but not very much money. Not sure what the deal with Russell was worth.
In these tough economic times, if somebody is willing to step up, that should be acknowledged.

I agree that Houston would be attractive for a conference. Big TV market, lots of recruits, and they have definitely improved this year. They actually beat all three BCS conference teams they played this season, 2 on the road.
However, I disagree that the MWC needs to go to 12 teams. That just splits up their money without adding much to their revenue. Since the MWC schools had such a bad experience when the WAC went to 12 teams, I figure they will be hesitant to add too many teams. However, a big market team like Houston might be attractive to them. Houston might be a lot better them than BCU…but over the past 5 years BSU will add more to their AQ score.
The sad thing is the non-BCS teams are fighting to be included in that extra BCS game.
The bigger picture is that, no matter what, a WAC or MWC team will never play in the national championship game.

I don’t think they are worried about the national championship game. Right now, I think the MWC is looking at increasing their $$$. When their TV deal is up around the time that the BCS conference decisions could be made, they can dump the mtn/VS and go for a big-dollar ESPN deal or get a lot more money from someone else than they get now. If the MWC becomes available to ESPN, that would be bad for the WAC…ESPN wanted the MWC much more than the WAC last time.

I agree with Garret on this one. The MWC shouldn’t be dreaming of national championship just yet. Small baby steps. Get to be a BCS conf first with all the money entitlements then maybe one day they bust the system or we get a playoff system.
Its like being invited to join the Pac-10. If Hawaii had that opportunity do not even dream about winning the conference championships just yet. Just be happy you are in a BCS conference, take the money and play some good teams and have fun. It’s much like a washington state who probably couldn’t be competitive even in the sunbelt conference. i think in this point in time they are just grateful to be a part of such a marquee conference and reaping the benefits that USC, Cal, Oregon, give to them in bowl invites.

I agree with 97 as well but the bottom line is you gotta win for the fans to come out. Thats all, keep it simple.. Just win and everything is well. That is pretty much true at any school. I remember going to USC games in 99, 2000, 2001. In used to think wow for a school rich in tradition in football they have a pretty crappy fan base. Nobody would show up to the games, the stadium as really empty and the fans were kinda like us right now – pissy. They made a great hire, started winning and the fans started to show up. Now they have one of the best fan base in the nation. – those damn fair weather, fickle fans!

Excluding 2007, I think its very very safe to say that Boise St. has been the most consistent team in bringing the WAC to the attention of the nation. Without them it is scary to see what tv contracts (or lack of) we will get or how our conference will be viewed.
everyone knows the WAC is one of the weaker conferences in the ncaa, losing Boise is just not something i would like to see happen.
USC takes first game from Stanford in WVB; Texas sweeps Nebraska in 3. Nebraska used to dominate with 6’5 Pavan, she graduated, now Texas dominates with 6’4 Hooker. Moral of the story, UH needs taller players who start. Cascioppo got to step up for Ferrell who is struggling big time, but Dave won’t change.

ralph, you are correct in your assessment of coach shoji not making changes. that was one of the major reasons why i gave up watching the wahines till this year. he was so intent on playing one player who was having terrible games and forgot that he had a team. ferrell is a good player, but she has her ups and downs and if she is not performing, replace her with someone else. that is why you have a team. if coach continues to revert back to his old tendencies, i do not see them progressing anymore. their progress has been very good till now because they put the team before any individual stats.
if ferrel was any good, she would be hitting .400+ in the wac. teams worry about defending danielson first not ferrel. she’s turning out to be like crawford, who blew the tournament match against michegan state when uh was undefeated. in the wac (no competition for uh) you should show progress not have career bad days. dave should try other girls at that spot, ferrel isn’t going to cut it when the pressure is on during tournament time.

Lori is actually worse today than she was 2 days ago…her health really went downhill yesterday and I took care of the kids and today she really struggled to make it through today. I’m taking care of the kids all morning tomorrow so hopefully she will be fine–she fell asleep at 10pm tonight and she rarely sleeps before midnight.

The Boise media and BSU actually weren’t the ones pushing for Kellen Moore–the national media noticed that he was tops in passing efficiency and they started publicizing him. It probably doesn’t hurt that he will have 4 straight games on ESPN, as ESPN tends to feature players that they will be showing in games.
I don’t think that Colin K could do anything to get ahead of Moore in the national spotlight. Nevada already lost 3 games and isn’t highly ranked like BSU, plus Moore has that #1 passing efficiency rating to back him up.

bring some of the kickers to UH, although Enos is doing well during games, we could always use someone for kick offs that put the ball in the field of play. Those kick off penalties are brutal.

I’m guessing ST meant John Estes’ family. I’m sure that they are at the game and they travel to a lot of UH’s road games. I remember talking with them at the Warriors Rally in New Orleans. I wonder who John’s brother will be cheering for…since he played for Nevada if I remember correctly.

UH can win the game if the Warriors get ahead early and force Nevada to pass all the time instead of relying on the run. To get that lead, UH will need 3 things:
1. Defense forces multiple Nevada turnovers and those turnovers are converted into points.
2. UH scores a TD in every trip to the red zone instead of FGs. It is impossible to get a big enough lead to force Nevada to pass if UH has to settle for 3 each time.
3. Every defender executes his assignment every time to shut down Nevada’s run options. UH has a lot of shuffling in the defensive lineup (Ornellas instead of Walker replacing Bryant, etc.), but a key would be for Meatoga to be fully healthy and being the force that he can be in the interior of the line. All the mistakes over the past few weeks will need to be eliminated…when you make a mistake against a passing team you can at least hope that the QB misfires (which Moore did several times last week), but against a running team with speedy RBs and a freak of nature at QB, a mistake ends up being a long gain or a TD.

RALPH: Re your #144. I don’t remember how many there are in Hawaii’s (State) grand jury but the Federal have anywhere from 16 to 23 in the grand jury.
But while the State grand jury requires 8 or so to make a quorum, I think the number is 23.
They always can hit him by way of information which requires a hearing before a judge for probable cause which means witnesses etc.
A Grand Jury hears witnesses in the absence of the defendant and that way the prosecutor doesn’t have to reveal his hand (at that time).

We were going to Vegas on standby on Friday red eye, but the flight home was pretty full so we elected not to fly…Will try next time and during the week day when it is more open.
As for the bb game the UH had only Hiram as a point guard and Luto was to slow…Anyway this caused so many turn over 19 which kept the Hilo team in the ball game.. Hilo is a super fast team, but short and they gave UH a battle…The other guard was Mayhem. You could see thad our star Rod
