Aloha all. Any folks on the east coast, know how I can get the game?

  16. Ipu Man August 25, 2014 8:44 am

Strange, couldn’t get today’s blog for the last 30 minutes or so. And now here it is supposedly available since 7am=ish. Sheeesh. Hmmmmm.

  17. islandman August 25, 2014 8:48 am

When i went to the blog, it had yesterday’s blog and no new blog listed on the right. Then after reading the last few posts of yesterday’s blog, and scrolling up, today’s blog title was listed near the upper right hand corner, appearing like magic. That happened yesterday too.

  18. al August 25, 2014 8:58 am

boola…check your local tv guide. its being televised on cbs college sports.

its channel 1247 here in honolulu.

  19. Chopsueyboy August 25, 2014 9:00 am

Last time UH played at UW, we parked at the dorms about a mile away from Huskie Stadium and paid $25 for parking. When Staples Center first opened, paid $20 to park 8 blocks away. Hawaii parking concessions under contract that doesn’t benefit athletic department, could a surcharge be added that goes directly to UH Athletics (maybe add $5). That could add up quickly

  20. Haleakala August 25, 2014 9:03 am

My wife will be at the game with my brother-in-law since she will be on Oahu for a conference. But I will have to stay home to keep the dog company.

I don’t have TV cable. Does anyone know if I can stream the game over the internet. I’ll be willing to pay to watch the game.

  22. andy August 25, 2014 9:21 am

Wheres jeremy castro in all this…hes a backup??? I thought he was top flight..that must mean our other lb are really good

  23. Pete Jek August 25, 2014 9:23 am

Kurt Gouveia said in a recent interview previewing the LB’s that Jeremy Castro was a definite starter on the outside with JGW. Did he get injured?

  24. iwonderwhythehateme August 25, 2014 9:32 am

    Football week has arrived ^_^.

I’m not asking for much this season, just a berth in the Hawaii Bowl. Again, I am not asking for much.

  44. bowwar August 25, 2014 12:52 pm

I think Chow needs to get with the times and let the kids wear their hair long if it makes them happy and play better.

I went to the practice on Saturday and I must say that Woolsey didn’t impress me. Actually, Graham seemed alot more confident, had a better presence, and threw a better ball. Makes me wonder…

  45. PONO August 25, 2014 12:54 pm

Woo and Wily look like some nice additions to the DL. Keep going hard on the recruiting trail.

  46. st. anthony trojan August 25, 2014 12:59 pm

Last Call…hope u not miss ur calling… should have been comedian…like…like..like
3 thumbs up…when will he demonstrate his KO…punch…or he save for basketball game ??? early morning humor here…don’t get to up set…we still love u BJ…well sumtimes ne way..LOL LOL LOL

  47. bowwar August 25, 2014 12:59 pm

I hope we’re prepared for some “trick plays” from the Huskies, as that was a staple of Peterson while at Boise.

  48. bowwar August 25, 2014 1:15 pm

Wow, they’re only predicting 28,000 to attend…That’s pathetic! Especially since we’re playing a PAC12 team. I wonder how many of those folks attending will be Huskies fans?

UH marketing sucks!!! I think we need to hire a mainland firm to get this program off the ground again.

  49. st. anthony trojan August 25, 2014 1:23 pm

ST… how does our field goal kicker look like..reliable n good % from inside 35 ?

for me the key is…QB…no interceptions…no big mistakes..
DEFENSE.. WE JUST NEED A FEW TAKE-AWAYS…

if we score 28 or so..me be happy..win or loose…
cuz i know progress will be made..

coaches choice of starter last year was questioned also..
but he did good n right.. as the season progress..it showed..he was right..
i will concede to him his football offense knowledge…n choices…
he is with all of them….n sees all…
if they put points on the board…we be ok…

  50. bowwar August 25, 2014 1:32 pm

Hadden is erratic at best…it’s still an adventure with him making extra points, let alone FGs. I didn’t get to see any of the other kickers and CJ Santos isn’t on the roster anymore. If Woolsey can prevent making turnovers and move the chains, I think we might have a chance. Woolsey needs to make his progressions and be willing to “eat-it” sometimes versus throwing a pick. The OL wasn’t able to prevent DL penetration at times during practice, so I’m figuring that Woolsey will likely get sacked 3-4 times against UDub.

  51. st. anthony trojan August 25, 2014 1:38 pm

bowar…# 36.. me agree second paragraph… have a many local can ‘do the job’ just
that they need to get past the.’no change’ attitude there upper campus…n according to some on here… na koa…but seems to be a do nothing attitude from the ad dept on promotions for ne game..except give away pepsi products..etc… small potato stuff…that will not put warm bodies at stadium or sheriff or murakami..

  52. al August 25, 2014 1:48 pm

48…it seems that the only adventure is occurring between your ears.
    tyler hadden’s pat history:
    freshmen 18/21
    soph 29/29
    junior 36/37

    hello?

  53. d1shima August 25, 2014 1:53 pm

I was at practice on Saturday, too.

QB2 looked as good as he did last season in practice.

…some guys always look good in practice. 🙄

  54. Ponojr August 25, 2014 2:12 pm

If UH wins Saturday, it’ll be a nice way to start the season.

  55. st. anthony trojan August 25, 2014 2:32 pm

    thanks al for that..
me have a hunch.. maybe a closer game then many predict..
maybe hadden is win it 4 us…late…

it is sad indeed.. that we can’t get more bodies there for the opener…

    should be 35 to 40k there…

maybe with all the talk this past summer.. n the negativism coming out of the UHAD…HAS SUMTHING TO DO WITH IT…

hope volleyball breaks the 4000 season tickets sold..

#50 Al, by the way, Tony probably borrowed the money from Roy Guthier; whom, I was the main money lender.

  58. kawika49 August 25, 2014 2:54 pm

    Pomai, Uh-28 UW-17, please.

  59. Shoko August 25, 2014 3:02 pm

If there are folks that’ll be out of the country, out of the house or have cut the umbilical cord to cable television (god knows why), the Hawaii opener will be streamed online, albeit illegally, on the Feed2All website, formerly known as First Row.

There’s no software that needs to be downloaded like the other websites. Just have to deal with the annoying popups but there are ways to get around that.

  60. Shoko August 25, 2014 3:04 pm

Haha, “only adventure is occurring between your ears.”

Gee, if I knew Al was this funny, I would read more of his comments.

  61. Abunai August 25, 2014 3:06 pm

Wow!! Just watching Tommy Woos highlight all I can say is very impressive!! I hope he keeps his word on coming here.. To bad defensive players can’t have a defensive pancake stat because I saw a lot of right tackles and fullbacks on there butts from Woo…

  62. cocobean August 25, 2014 3:07 pm

#42., #51. Looking at the projected starting O I noticed no full or H back. Is the alignment a pistol or a spread option? I would think Joey would run better out of the pistol with it’s straight ahead play with a cut back option as opposed to the spread’s angular runs..which probably suits St. Juste.

  63. st. anthony trojan August 25, 2014 3:07 pm

kawika 49… you been hitting the okolelao again huh…he he he
    correction… uh 49—wash 14 LOL…LOL…LOL

IN MY DREAM..THEY ARE CLOCKING THE FIELD GOAL …

  64. gobows August 25, 2014 3:17 pm

    47, 48

the only problem with hadden is…when he kicks from the hash marks, he kicks it straight. the problem is the hash marks are out side of the goal post. so it goes wide left. he needs to take a geometry class to learn how to turn the field.

  65. gobows August 25, 2014 3:19 pm

*goes wide left or wide right.

  66. volleyballfan August 25, 2014 3:21 pm

Jordan will not be in the game, or lineup, that much. Every game he has taken a few snaps, then has gotten injured. He is just to injury prone, to fragile.

  67. volleyballfan August 25, 2014 3:25 pm

Pomai, UW-52 UH-10. Just adding another nail to Chow’s coffin.

  68. volleyballfan August 25, 2014 3:30 pm

Pomai, when will the Wahine Softball Team hold their Fall Scrimmages do you know? Also, what teams will be involved?

  69. Andrew August 25, 2014 3:44 pm

    I’m gonna be optimistic UH- 31 UW-28

  70. Shoko August 25, 2014 3:45 pm

I guess it a good thing Jordan will be up in the booth and not on the field since he’s injury-prone. Let’s hope he doesn’t trip walking to the play-calling booth. I don’t think we have backup for that position.

  71. Shoko August 25, 2014 3:49 pm

Never mind, guess you’re referring to Puu-Robinson.

  72. Shoko August 25, 2014 3:53 pm

DeRuyter says both Brian Burrell and Brandon Connette both will play Saturday at USC.

  74. BigFan August 25, 2014 3:58 pm

Didn’t know Hatchie (Waialua grad) was the starting left tackle. He’s doing we’ll.

  75. BigFan August 25, 2014 4:00 pm

So, it looks like the Huskies best dl and OL players are north shore kids.

  76. al August 25, 2014 4:05 pm

kawika…I do remember roy guthier. his kid brother was my age.

  77. al August 25, 2014 4:07 pm

    shoko…I guess that was a compliment…?

  78. Shoko August 25, 2014 4:19 pm

That was more of a joke. I usually read you comments anyway because they’re pretty short and to the point.

  79. Shoko August 25, 2014 4:21 pm

Petersen’s comment about the upcoming game in Hawaii.
    Q. “What do you expect to see from Hawaii?”

    A. “It’s a little bit hard to know because they have a brand new defensive coordinator. It’s going to be a completely different scheme. And then they’ve changed their offense as well. So you looking at some players, so it’s hard to not get caught up in their scheme when you’re looking at their tape, which we don’t feel is going to be the same. First games, who knows. I think those first three games, there’s a lot of uncertainty, everybody’s going to have new wrinkles that they’re saving for first game, second game, third game. But you know, I think Norm Chow, let’s not forget, that guy’s a phenomenal coach. To have success in the program, it’s more than just coaching. It’s administration, it’s support, all those things. I know some of those coaches on that staff, too, and this is a new year, and they’ll have those guys ready to roll, I know that.”

  80. SteveM August 25, 2014 4:26 pm

No worry, Al, I read all your comments… 😛

  81. Haka August 25, 2014 4:46 pm

#48. How do you market 3-10 and 1-11? Plus no mo the one “hero” kids would nag their parents to go and see. The kind of star girls would flock to see. We ain’t got a Colt taking snaps or a Chad returning punts. Not yet at least.

  87. st. anthony trojan August 25, 2014 4:59 pm

    35-24 . Thanks Pomai. Let’s Go Bows!

  90. hatakeman August 25, 2014 5:31 pm

Looking at the last nine games last season, the Warriors averaged 32 pts on offense and allowed 41 pts on defense. I would say Hawaii is better than last season on offense, plus Tyler Hadden seems to have improved his FG distance. So Warriors should score 34 pts on offense. On defense, the question is whether the Warriors are 10 pts better than last season. I say they are. Huskies 31 pts (Sum: HAW 34, WASH 31).

  91. haka August 25, 2014 5:53 pm

“Barring a late surge in sales, it would be the smallest turnstile crowd for a Rainbow Warrior football season opener at the 50,000-seat Aloha Stadium in 36 years.”

It’s all on the fans. You want it, prove it. Cheer from where you are, but if you can, show up and Rock Aloha! The Warriors need to know that the fans got their backs.

    Let’s Go Warriors!

  92. volleyballfan August 25, 2014 6:04 pm

The Governor released, to UH, approximately $40 million for facility improvements. Wondering how UH will misuse that money. All I know is the UH Administration will find a way of throwing away that money.

  93. Z August 25, 2014 6:13 pm

    UH 28 – UW 24

  94. st. anthony trojan August 25, 2014 6:14 pm

    well on defense…yap was hurt..
n he said…’it seems like some are not giving 100% on the defense’..
if ne one should know he should…
so this year he is one of the captains..
so hopefully that will change a lot…
n hope it will show up on the scoreboard with sum zeros n not every quarter with numbers over zero..

    hatakeman… hope ur right…

  95. Trunks420 August 25, 2014 6:31 pm

#72 Shoko Going to be a Great Game hope you can watch on TV.

I’ll be cheering For The Warriors to Tame The Huskies.

    Glad its Game Week.

    Pomai:

    UW 45, UH 6

    Thanks.

  97. A-House August 25, 2014 7:35 pm

while it would be great to see at least 30,000 at the stadium, we should not discount TV sales – it’s also $$ to UH – does UH get a % of last minute individual TV purchases of the game?

    Pomai:

    UH 20 – UW 17 & MasaBoy says UH 23 UW 20

  98. A-House August 25, 2014 7:37 pm

guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow’s paper to read about the last 2 commits for 2015

hope ST will also have game tapes of the 2 players

  99. al August 25, 2014 7:37 pm

ahouse…the contract calls for 2.3m regardless of the number of viewers. so if 2 people watch or 20,000 watch same smell.

    Just the facts:
    1) UW has Pac 12 caliber athletes. UH is in the MW.
    2) Chris Peterson is a proven winner, albiet at Boise St.
    3) UW has better football talent than Boise State. UW easily beat Boise St. last year.
    4) Boise St. has had no problems handling UH.
    5) Jeff Lindquist, UW QB threw 4 TD in the spring game and is a 4-star rated recruit.
    6) UW’s OL and DL is the strength of the team, meaning they will control the game.
    7) UW’s receivers are speedy and can break the long TDs.
    8) UH is at home, but recently hasn’t shown to be a big advantage.
    9) UH’s last Pac 12 win was against Colorado, who was the worst team in the conference that year.
    10) When was the last time UH won on national television? Answer: When UH beat UW, 35-28 to finish undefeated in 2007.

My heart has UH, my head says UW. Happy to have you in my life day! Nice try.
    UW-34, UH 17.

Well, being a Rainbow Warrior fan, I see things through rose-colored glasses. Sometimes, like in 1973, against all odds, the unlikely happens (Hawaii beat the Huskies 10-7 in Seattle).

Point spread went up today to -17 from -15.5 .

    90. It remains to be seen if the offense is better than last year which had Schroeder.

    105. The Washington OL had some trouble with pass protection last year.

  110. Abunai August 25, 2014 10:00 pm

I hope uh goes after David Faatuiese from vista. They are comparing him to Pisa. A great uh lb at uh when he was here.

  111. islandman August 25, 2014 10:00 pm

    109. Schroeder and go to player Chris Gant .

Looking at the tentative line-up it looks like 10 (?) of the 22 starters are Chow recruits. So this is gradually becoming Chow’s baby. My hope is that UH fans see progress and growth in Chow’s 3rd year.

It starts with the wide receivers. This statement is debatable. But that’s what I think.

In year one of Chow’s regime the offense was stunted, where for example the top 3 receivers had a combined total of 82 catches.

In year two the offense showed a little improvement, taking bigger strides, where the top 3 receivers had a combined total of 165 catches (which is a 100% improvement).

This year’s wide receivers need more catches. Be athletic. Get open. And make the QB look good on otherwise errant throws. The wide receivers, slots, tight ends
need to be play makers and game changers. For example last year’s OSU wide receiver was one best, could turn a game around with his play making abilities, which can make an average team like OSU a whole lot better. UH needs a similar type play maker.

I would go out on the limb and say if the production out of the top three wide receivers averages 70 catches apiece (210 for the season) this will open up the offense further and make the Warrior’s opponents defense to play honest. With the running game adding some punch from Joey and the QB having designed running plays the offense should be more multi dimensional and balanced in Chow’s third year.

When I look back at the years the Warriors did well it seems to me that the WR’s
were very good, prolific, and in my opinion made the quarterback look good. The likes of Bess, Mullens, Rivers, and Salas (109,119 catches in successive years) made some outstanding catches, created separation from the defensive back and made life for the QB a whole lot easier. This year WR group needs to step it up if UH is going to show marked improvement.

On another note I was reading the 2014 UH football media guide, which I thought was done pretty well. But I saw also that it omitted the governor’s message, HVB message, and school president’s message that I thought would have added nice warm touch and welcoming. In years past the media guide included these type messages. Just was curious.

someone sure writes like a kinder gentler critical thinker. the lawyer with a big house filled with big screens where his relatives, some of whom are exNFLers would come over to watch road games.

  115. cocobean August 25, 2014 11:43 pm

Derek, to use the vernacular of coach Bud who once said the odds of a certain thing happening was akin to hitting two hard eights hopping in a row. A very rare event on the craps table. Does your head say get chance or no mo chance.

Great stories and coverage again in today’s paper. Gettin’ ready!!! As far as ticket sales I hope there is a strong walk-up, but it is understandable after the last three years……no prediction, just want it competitive and see drastic improvement….after all -15 dogs and a top 25 versus FORMER 1-11 team. Something good an positive is going to come from this game….offense looks sharp, defense attacks and makes plays. . . . . no one will read this far, but I had a real good view of the Washington game in 1973…..a real good view—Go Warriors!!!!

    Uh 17 UW 56

Love UH but our WR depth and Lack of Play makers to keep up in the Secondary kill us.

Woosley throws 3 picks and TG is in 4th quarter.

I hope all of you fans who put your blinders on thinking anything can happen are not on here hating after we lose. Its just a much, much better team

  122. jeffdman2000 August 26, 2014 10:04 am

plan on lots of balls missed due to WR either not catching or running bad routes

  123. ManuOKeKai August 26, 2014 7:01 pm

UW will run, run, run. Their O-line is dominant. Our D-line and LB’s are small but very strong. This will be where the game is won. Can UW OL control the ball and the clock or can UH Defense stop the run and give the ball to Offense. This game will also be determined in the 2nd half. Conditioning and depth may go to UH. If so, UH could pull it out late in the game, given a few breaks and “Home cooking”. I’ll go UH 24 UW 20. Coach Peterson will not let the young QB lose the game for UW. UH will have to earn this one.
