Tomorrow, tomorrow … the transfer

Should have something Thursday about UH transfer.

Spoke with Shoji at sand today. There will be one other bit of news first that UH will announce, probably in the morning.

No, he isn’t retiring.

After UH puts out the announcement then I can get to the transfer details.

Transfer will be a MB, not an All-American, but a very good player, Shoji said. Asked which conference, he said he had told me enough already. ‘-)

I know, I know, this isn’t my usual style. must be all the sun from Waikiki today.

All I can say is … stay tuned.

With a middle coming in, this incoming class including the prep girls will be the tallest in memory. Cannot wait till the season starts. UH should start sending out ticket renewals right after the announcement is made.

  2. formerlywarriorfan March 19, 2014 7:54 pm

Sounds good, if she is transferring she must be hoping for some playing time which means Kalei/Jade will be in for a major battle for their starting spots.

  3. LC March 19, 2014 7:57 pm

It was on twitter a few days go but it’s your blog so I won’t say.Personally I don’t consider her to be in the big time category but she is good.

  4. formerlywarriorfan March 19, 2014 8:00 pm

LC spill the beans , please!

  5. Cindy Luis March 19, 2014 8:01 pm

    3. if you say so and I appreciate your mumness if there is such a word. I agreed to how Shoji wanted it handled. so ….
Don’t think the other ‘news’ has been tweeted. That will draw some interesting comments.

  6. Cindy Luis March 19, 2014 8:03 pm

    4. or perhaps he can share the tweet with you

  7. LC March 19, 2014 8:06 pm

Now that other news is something I don’t know about but it sounds like it might be interesting.

  8. Cindy Luis March 19, 2014 8:07 pm

    7. it will be interesting.
surprised the ‘tweet’ isn’t up on VT yet.
yes, I went trolling since I don’t do twitter.

  9. formerlywarriorfan March 19, 2014 8:13 pm

Okay I will just wait for tomorrow, still hoping it’s Aiyana Whitney:)

  10. Cindy Luis March 19, 2014 8:13 pm

been a really long day in the sun between paddling this morning and 3 hours at sand.
Probably won’t check back until Thursday AM
    Aloha for now

  11. vbfan March 19, 2014 8:18 pm

I was hoping for an OH since they’ll be a bit thin in that area next year.

If it’s a MB I would think even if it’s not big time, they would be better than the middles currently on the roster, otherwise what’s the point. I don’t think you transfer to sit on the bench… but that’s what ended up happening to Kastl, so who knows.

  12. formerlywarriorfan March 19, 2014 8:41 pm

re: 11. Hear hear, was hoping for an outside too, Now really gotta hope Greeley is ready from day one and that Passi will give Manu Olevao a serious run for that opposite starting spot.
I like that Greeley is the top player on the top club team in so cal though.

But it is nice to have another middle, that way Emily Maglio and Megan Huff will be able to redshirt.

  13. Brandon. March 19, 2014 8:58 pm

I told you guys it wouldn’t be an AA or someone who was like that. Sad it’s not an OH but still excited to see who it is.

  14. haleiwacrossfitter March 19, 2014 9:15 pm

LC/Cindy how many years does she have to play at UH? A little disappointed it’s not an OH, especially with Tai possibly going on a mission, which is just a rumor, not confirmed at all. But I am all for anyone coming in and helping us right away.

  15. haleiwacrossfitter March 19, 2014 9:20 pm

The only middle, for whatever weird reason, I am thinking of is Melanie Wade from WA. She is good, but not “big time.” Aiyanna Whitney is not a MB, so I don’t think it’s her. Not sure why her name keeps coming up.

And I have nothing to think it is Melanie Wade…just someone that popped up in my head for no reason at all.

  16. haleiwacrossfitter March 19, 2014 9:23 pm

Sorry..one more thing. This has to be the most undercover transfer EVER. Not even a whisper of this going on on Volleytalk from anyone. By now, someone on there knows and starts spilling the beans. But nope…NOTHING. Really odd and so 007 like. Haha

  17. po'okela March 19, 2014 10:59 pm

with a transfer coming in? maybe the “other” news is of someone currently on the roster not returning next year?

  18. Hot March 19, 2014 11:21 pm

There goes the “big time” tag. Not even All-American.

  19. Cindy Luis March 19, 2014 11:23 pm

    18. never said it was an A-A. quoted shoji a few weeks ago when he said it would be big-time.

  20. FormerlyWarriorfan March 19, 2014 11:43 pm

Re:18 Dude just becuse she isn’t an all american yet doesn’t mean she won’t be one before her UH career is done! Bown anyone? Prince??

  21. Brandon. March 20, 2014 12:20 am

Why do people keep saying big time means all American. Lord. Victoria prince, one of the greatest wahine players ever was certainly big time and she wasn’t an AA. I told you people to stop thinking it was an AA cause you would only get your hopes up. AA hardly EVER transfer

  22. sasa March 20, 2014 8:11 am

Could be the 6’4 Canadian middle at USC. She’d have 2 years of eligibility left.

  23. sasa March 20, 2014 8:14 am

    Alicia Ogoms is her name.

  24. sasa March 20, 2014 8:16 am

Another possibility could be the 6’4 Texas middle, Sarah Hattis. She also has 2 years to play.

  25. Brandon March 20, 2014 8:44 am

Its not Sarah hattis. Texas already released their 2014 roster and shes on it. Doubt its alicia either.

  26. FormerlyWarriorfan March 20, 2014 8:47 am

No thnks to hattis or ogoms.

  27. JS March 20, 2014 8:48 am

What about Haggerty from Nebraska? She’s not on their sand roster

  28. JS March 20, 2014 8:57 am

The timing of the announcement for tomorrow would make even more sense for Haggerty — waiting till after Nebraska sand played UH.

  29. wisemary2 March 20, 2014 9:33 am

Alma Serna? She sat out last year at LBSU.

  30. vballfreak808 March 20, 2014 9:49 am

    27. Most likely not. I’m not sure what the transfer rules are even if she sat out because LBSU is in the same conference

  31. haleiwacrossfitter March 20, 2014 10:43 am

I would be SHOCKED if it was Haggerty. If I’m not mistaken, her sister has committed there as well…I think? But even if not, Meghan just seems to me that she is a Husker for life.

I really do hope it’s NOT Serna either. I was never really impressed with her.

Sad about Jade, but actually really proud of her for getting her degree so quick and moving on with life. Happy that she will be playing with her sister, too. Nothing bad to say about her decision, at all. I wish her the best.

  32. formerlywarriorfan March 20, 2014 11:00 am

    29. I thought Serna flunked out of Long Beach. Not sure she would make it at UH.

  33. sasa March 20, 2014 11:25 am

Vukasovic of Cal? Sophomore from Croatia at 6’5. She started for the Bears most, if not all, of last season.

  34. uhfan March 20, 2014 11:28 am

    33. She’s playing sand volleyball right now

  35. sasa March 20, 2014 11:43 am

Very unlikely, but maybe Megan McGee, 6’2 sophomore from Stanford. Very good, but unfortunately she, and another middle (6’8) had to sit two years behind Wopat and Ajanaku.

  36. Brandon. March 20, 2014 12:52 pm

Lol mcghee is not transferring. She’s poised to start next year at stanford according to most stanford fans

  37. sasa March 20, 2014 4:12 pm

    36. Would you like to offer up who you think it is, since you seem to know who it’s not?

  38. Brandon. March 20, 2014 5:05 pm

    37. no because I don’t know who it is. But I’m pretty positive mcghee won’t transfer. She wouldn’t trade a full ride to stanford for hawaii, 2. She’s poised to start. It’s going to come from a middle of the pack program most likely. But the player will still be good

  39. Cubicle1126 March 20, 2014 5:37 pm

it’s possible also that it could be a foreign player, but transferring from a small program. that’s happened before (Lundqvist? … from Montana St?). it might explain also why there’s been little buzz. few fans have the smaller, lesser known programs on their radar.

(and of course, it goes without saying, i have no insider info on this possible transfer. just adding to the random speculation on here! haha… )

  40. Hot March 21, 2014 8:31 am

    19. I know you never said All-American. That’s just what I was expecting when Shoji said “big-time.” To me, for someone to be called “big time,” she’s either All-American or a starter in a Top 10 program. To those who are mentioning Prince, she made a name for herself at UH, but she wasn’t a big time transfer nor was she hyped as such.
