Number 2 is the new number 1.

Oh, shout out and big props to 3-prong and D1, Linfield, makes a heroic comeback, and wins another playoff game, on their way to another National championship game for small colleges. See; http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/202981-college-football-linfield-rallies-for-playoff-victory

Hooray, kudos and support for the 10 local boys on their squad.

I saw that UH & Naeole is in the running for a few quality mainland OL recruits. Hopefully UH can close the deal and bring’em in.

Is TK still on the staff?

  5. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 11:10 am

    3. Gotta give Laura Beeman big props for getting UH WBB to a winning program. That’s a sport I thought UH would never be good at.

  6. Whats up December 2, 2013 11:18 am

O line and D line are huge needs every year, the coaches need to pull in some more talent on both of the lines. Look at Missouri spread no huddle O line it’s roughly around 6’5″ and 315lbs and can still handle the up tempo offense and athletic enough to handle SEC defensive players. Hawaii needs to get some or grow some O line talent like Missouri’s O line. The Defense line has to get bigger, stronger and faster too, Kennedy, Castro, Yap, Samia, Manoa and the rest of the D line should improve with the help of Gary Beemer. But recruiting in some D Line studs via transfer, JC and High school wouldn’t hurt either.

Is Kory Rasmussin playing O line or D line? Is Dejon Allen playing O line or D line? I can’t remember?

  7. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:23 am

Kory Rasmussen is a defensive tackle.
Dejon Allen is an offensive lineman.

  8. kapakahi December 2, 2013 11:23 am

Allen is playing OG. Saw him at last night’s luau.

  9. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:23 am

    Keelan Ewaliko is a safety.

  10. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:24 am

John Wa‘a is an offensive guard

  11. kapakahi December 2, 2013 11:24 am

    Retirement Watch 2013……

  15. jeezy33 December 2, 2013 11:30 am

Talent wise, future is bright…. We still have missing pieces but we at least we have the talent to compete with the upper MWC teams now. We do need a QB..

O line is going from weakness to team strength in 2 years..

Need to get faster at LB and better speed at DBs too..

  16. jeezy33 December 2, 2013 11:31 am

    13. Not happening! Not even on the radar

  17. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:32 am

If Ikaika Woolsey focuses, he can be a heck of a quarterback. He’s got the tools.
I wouldn’t rule out Taylor Graham. It should be an interesting offseason.

  18. tommui December 2, 2013 11:33 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

    Recruiters: Good hunting!

  19. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:34 am

UH actually sent three coaches to scout Lahainaluna last month.

  20. letsgowarriors December 2, 2013 11:35 am

thought I saw Muraoka wearing #2 on the sidelines. is Allen Sampson still on the team?

  21. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:35 am

Anyone else concerned the head of Na Koa didn’t attend yesterday’s luau?
    Just sayin’ …

  22. jeezy33 December 2, 2013 11:35 am

    17. I think that can be said about a lot of QBs though. QB is all about preparation and mental toughness in my opinion. Uncoachable intangibles. That’s why there are so many 4 and 5 star busts….

He is young so I hope you are right..

  23. kapakahi December 2, 2013 11:36 am

    #16,

JMHO but don’t understand that move……being that OSU and Wazzu are made their move.

  24. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:37 am

Allen Sampson is on the team. But he missed the entire season with a torn hamstring. This after two ACL surgeries. He graduates in May. He probably could transfer after that if he wishes to play. The main thing is he needs to get healthy.

  25. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:39 am

    Re: Woolsey
It’s up to Woolsey to fulfill his promise. They watch videos with him and have meetings all the time. At some point, a bird has to fly on its own.

  26. kapakahi December 2, 2013 11:40 am

Sampson was at last night’s luau.

BTW, good to see CWM and Jordan Loeffler (medical retirements) among the senior honorees at Saturday’s game.

  27. wasabi December 2, 2013 11:40 am

14- yep here we go again!

  28. jeezy33 December 2, 2013 11:42 am

    23. Maybe that’s a good sign that the UH coaches did their Homework and identified better players…

My guess is Wazzu and OSU maybe have seen him play 1 time…..

Although I agree with you for the most part we could use a defensive player from Lahaina…

  29. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:42 am

    From ESPN.com:
Washington freshman quarterback Troy Williams, a Los Angeles native, expressed his displeasure with the move, writing: “Don’t ever commit cus of a coach. Faker then a 3 dollar bill.” The tweet was later deleted.

  30. kapakahi December 2, 2013 11:42 am

    #19,

BUT……will they be going again soon for a home visit?

  31. jeezy33 December 2, 2013 11:44 am

    25. I agree… That’s where you hit or miss on QBs. You can identify talent. But hard to find the ones with the mental makeup to deliver under pressure…

Although Woolsey might end up being our top recruiter athlete for this 2014 class.

  32. gobows December 2, 2013 11:46 am

wait, retire from college football, but will audition for the pro’s…

sounds like there are underlying issues.

Tough schedule next year. Lets see if beemer can make a difference and turn them into workout junkies.

  33. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:46 am

    Re: Winchester-Makainai:
Always liked the guy. From what I was told (fourth hand, or so) he has a spinal issue that could lead to life-long problems if he suffers further injury. It’s unfortunate that some things are not meant to be. Really reminds me of Joe Onosai’s situation, although he ended up having a very fulfilling life.

  34. ai-eee-soos December 2, 2013 11:47 am

some more USC kine gossip …

USC: Brett McMurphy tweets, “Ed Orgeron ‘outraged’ didn’t receive USC job and resigns.

OC Clay Helton expected to bowl.” ( coach the team in the bowl game).

  35. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:50 am

Getting a JC quarterback is good, based on age and experience. Thing is, there aren’t that many great ones out there, and there’s a lot of competition for them. Also, it sometimes takes a while for a QB, or any JC player, to adapt to a new system. Rolo even struggled that first year. The best would be to get a JC guy with three years of eligibility remaining. Again, those are hard to find.

  36. ai-eee-soos December 2, 2013 11:50 am

hmm … I wonder if the enraged bull, Ed Orgeron, would work for 199K.

  37. Stephen Tsai December 2, 2013 11:52 am

Clay Helton is the older brother of former UH assistant Tyson Helton, right?

  38. boolakanaka December 2, 2013 11:52 am

Many players got “seasoned” this past year, that bodes well for the future. However, I am in agreement with Jeezy, defensive team speed, from where I sit, seems the most glaring deficit. We were constantly beat on perimeter plays, and our backend, gave-up entirely too many big plays. Without the ability to have consistent and solid play with your DBs, it impairs the greater defense to play different coverages and schemes.

As they say, you can’t teach speed. Lets get faster.

  39. Jeezy33 December 2, 2013 11:57 am

Sometimes you strike gold with David Fales, masoli, Colt Brennan… Still think Greg Alexander was going to be good before injury …

  40. AlaWai December 2, 2013 12:01 pm

Its time to vote for Emily. She holds a slim lead and needs everyone to cast a vote. Vote for only Emily please. http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/volleyball_2013/
Congrats to Messrs. Harding, Yap, Clay, Schroeder Wa’a and Manoa.
Did you read Dave Reardon’s column? No “White Knight” in sight with an open check book. Yes, Dr. Chow and Ben Jay need to find potential successors to the HC position.
Ben Jay should really address the season ticket holders and retaining them. One free ticket to a Wahine BB game or Men’s VB game as a bonus will not keep them. The season ending 50% discount for all seats was great for attendance, but left the season ticket supporters muttering. The real work now begins for our coaches on the recruiting trail. More than anything we need good depth at every position.

  41. Jeezy33 December 2, 2013 12:02 pm

    38. I wonder what took lataimua so long to get on the field .. He was noticeably faster than Daley against army and made some nice plays. Gener needs to stay healthy next year …

  42. Traitmanz December 2, 2013 12:04 pm

    Get TK out

  43. innocent observer December 2, 2013 12:08 pm

kaumeyer in office – was he calling other schools for a job? he should as his days with uh are numbered. the rest of his defensive coaches too.

  44. WarYours December 2, 2013 12:15 pm

haven’t heard much on faga’s status. is he all good medically?

  45. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 12:21 pm

The Orgeron situation is bothersome… Not for me, but for those involved.

Orgeron looks like a moron by ditching his players before the bowl game. He spent the last few weeks talking about this was “about the kids” in his push for the USC job. Orgeron doesn’t have a stellar resume. I think he was labelled as one of the worst SEC coaches in history by some. If he wants another HC job, he’s probably going to have to go outside the BCS schools.

Other schools will grill him during future interviews on ditching USC before the their bowl game after touting he was all about the kids.

  46. RedZone December 2, 2013 12:22 pm

I am hoping to find a quarterback like Kellen Moore.

  47. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 12:30 pm

Jeezy… I’m curious to see what Drake Miller looks like next year. He redshirted this year and looks like he has very good instincts from his recruiting video. One of those guys with a nose for the football. Speedwise, he looks quick enough.

I think UH will be fine at LB next year. JGW is a quality OLB. It’ll be TJ or Castro on the other side. Open competition for MLB will be fun to watch. Gener played well before going down with injury.

My wish is that UH goes back to 3-4 to use big boys Samia, Kennedy, Rasmussen/Malepeai to anchor the line, and move Yap to Rush End. Kennedy and Rasmussen are quick for their size and would cause havoc in pass rush, and they have the size to hold up vs the run. Samia would play nose tackle and do what he did this year and plug the middle. The returning defensive roster sets up better for a 3 man front that TK’s base 4-3.

  48. Derek December 2, 2013 12:35 pm

It would be nice to have a JC guy who can play 3 years. Colt Brennan played 3 years after coming from Saddleback JC. His first year, he threw up on the Aloha Stadium field, but you could see he made a lot of plays. His second year, 2006, he was on fire, and it was probably UH’s best team. Finishing 9-3, losing only to Florida at the Swamp, losing a touchdown at Boise, and losing in the finale to Oregon St. in a great, great game. He also threw for 58 TDs in 2006. In 2007, well, we are talking history, a 12-0 season, a Sugar Bowl against Georgia. His decision to return for his senior season, I think, cost him some money in the pros, but he would tell you that it was all worth it. That’s why Colt will always be the Pied Piper of UH players. To this day, people and kids would follow him around just to get an autograph and he is the most beloved player by the majority of the fans that follows UH football. But there are other UH JC QBs who did okay such as Rolo, and Whieldon. Casey Ortez was a hellava QB, but he had some drug and personal problems. Still, I think we need to look for a JC QB this year who has played a lot and was very productive. The more the competition, the better. You cannot bank on Woolsey being the guy, or Graham, or Higgins. Not to say that they all can’t improve, but you don’t want to say that we have the right person for the job that’s in the program right now. Tuileta can’t be ruled out as a true freshman, but he needs to learn a lot. It’s not like he’ll be in for spring practice. You don’t know if Zwahlen will show up in 2015, because by that time Chow might not be here anymore.

Will Tigi Hill be eligible this coming year? What about Terrance Polk? And Moala?

  49. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 12:37 pm

    46. No kidding, but guys with Moore’s football IQ are very hard to find, plus they end up at Stanford if they have decent physical talent.

I hope Moore can hang around in the NFL, but #3 QBs always have to fight every year for a roster spot. Won’t be easy.

  50. pu'uwai December 2, 2013 12:39 pm

Nice win by the team and seniors.

    Imua Rainbow Warriors!!!

  51. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 12:41 pm

48.. I also agree the the 2006 team was better than the 2007 team. The 2006 schedule was much tougher. UH barely squeaked by some bad teams in 2007 (SJSU, Nevada, Washington, La Tech).

Didn’t UH play at Alabama in 2006?

  52. Jeezy33 December 2, 2013 12:43 pm

    47. Well u better pray miller doesn’t go on his mission… We still are pretty inexperienced at lb for the most part. Castro is a DE. We have 2 proven quality lbs by mwc standards in jgw and gener .. Lataimua has a chance . I hope darzil gets signed because he adds speed we lack .. Miller showd promise but young and unproven ..

  53. Jeezy33 December 2, 2013 12:44 pm

I want to see 3-4 too but I’m pretty sure a big reason Castro leg ucla was because they ran a 3-4 and he’s a 4-3 DE

  54. Bowwar December 2, 2013 12:45 pm

There has to be changes after this season…Whether its Chow or his assistants, it doesn’t matter. I think Chow should focus on being a good HC and get himself a new OC who he either accepts (i.e. his offensive philosphy) or tries to groom. Defensively, something has to change…If its TK, then sobeit…

I do think we need a good JC or transfer QB to make the QB situation competitive for next year. We need a leader…I think Schroeder achieved that duirng the latter half of the season.

  55. Marleysdad December 2, 2013 12:58 pm

Say what you want, but we have a longer winning streak than Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Texas A&M, Clemson, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, USC, Oregon St., & Fresno St. COMBINED!!!

    LMAO!!!!

  56. jeezy33 December 2, 2013 1:01 pm

    53. left*

  57. NotNasti December 2, 2013 1:09 pm

    56. Marleysdad: your post reminds me of that Monte Python song:

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you sad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
    Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best…
    And…

…always look on the bright side
of life… (whistle) too toot, too toot, too toot, too toot . . .

  58. NotNasti December 2, 2013 1:10 pm

    sorry 55. Marleysdad

  59. Leron December 2, 2013 1:11 pm

#38 so on point. Want an amazing stat? Hawaii is ranked #2 in the country in tackles for loss just behind Clemson.

    http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/467

  60. Derek December 2, 2013 1:11 pm

#51, you’re right, it’s was Alabama, not Florida. Florida was during McMackin’s time when Urban Meyer was there, and Tebow, and Hernandez.

  61. NotNasti December 2, 2013 1:16 pm

We should have beaten ‘Bama in Tuscaloosa.

  62. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 1:23 pm

53… Hopefully Castro fills out some. He’s a little light for DE. He’s probably more explosive than Yap, but just like Yap, the weakness will be when teams run at him.

Gener makes the most sense at MLB if he stays healthy. Otherwise, it’s going to be a young starter to grow into the job.

The DLine should get way more athletic next year, but the projected starters will be a little lighter.
I wonder how David Moana and Meffy are progressing in their size/strength. If they can effectively fill out, they look like good players in the future.

  63. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 1:32 pm

59… I’ve been noting that throughout the year. Although that stat is pretty amazing, I’d gladly trade in those TFL for 3rd down stops.

UH ranked #86 in 3rd down defense. Surprisingly, UNLV, SJSU, Notre Dame were worse. Less surprisingly, Nevada, Air Force and New Mexico were worse also.

TK fell in love with the blitz and when it worked, UH got a TFL. However, whenever the opponent timed up a screen pass or if the blitz failed to get in the backfield, UH got torched. I like the aggressiveness, but it got predictable and good OCs picked it apart. Phillips and Maggett are good CBs, but they are inconsistent. It’s either blanket coverage or they’re burned. Not much in between.

  64. Old School Dave December 2, 2013 1:55 pm

Former UW coach Steve Sarkisian earlier in the day denied interviewing for the USC job. Two hours later USC announced that he had accepted the job.

    http://www.footballscoop.com/news/11798-steve-sarkisian-said-he-was-staying-at-washington-this-morning

UW players were taken by surprised by Sarkisian’s departure. Apparently, Sarkisian wants to take his entire UW staff to USC.

    http://blogs.seattletimes.com/huskyfootball/2013/12/02/uw-players-blindsided-by-sarkisians-departure-to-usc/

  65. st. anthony trojan December 2, 2013 2:12 pm

FUHA… does it break it down also..(UH ranked #86 in 3rd down defense)
was a run or pass on 3rd …??

  66. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 2:15 pm

64… I’ve heard a bunch of his players at UW are really mad. Coaches hide their intentions so they don’t disrupt the locker room and the recruiting until the deal is done. Pretty bad way to handle it, but that’s how it goes. Coaches make home visits and sell the recruit’s families of his plans for the player and then the coach leaves.

The current recruits have time to do what they want, but the players who get screwed are the redshirt freshmen and sophomores. Now they are stuck at UW not knowing if they will fit into the next coach’s schemes. If they elect to transfer, they must burn a year of eligibility to do so.

  67. Traitmanz December 2, 2013 2:18 pm

Don’t forget about greyshirt Ualesi Sale. Gonna play outside linebacker and is very fast and athletic

  68. boolakanaka December 2, 2013 2:21 pm

On the item of UH being ranked 2nd in the nation for tackles for loss, the other side of this coin, is that this is often a product of folks coming out of their assigned responsibilities, leaving the rest of the D uncovered. Now, I’m not sure whether this was the case with the Warriors, but it would be interesting to splice the film to see….

  69. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 2:23 pm

65… Nope, NCAA stats only show total… No pass/run or distance breakdown. Would have to look at every play-by-play to find the pass/run ratio.

  70. jm2375 (iPad) December 2, 2013 2:49 pm

FUHA – #66 – didn’t JJ do the exact same thing?

  71. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 3:06 pm

hmm… just went through the box scores and they don’t add up…. NCAA official stats show 201 3rd down attempts by UH opponents, but I went through UH’s database and it totals 204.

In any case, based off the numbers in the UH Football website stats, here’s the ugly truth…

Note: 3rd and Short is 2 yards and less; 3rd and middle is 3-4 yards; 3rd and long is 5+yards

3rd and Short (2 and less) Defense
    Run: 14-26 (54%)
    Pass: 6-9 (67%)
    Total 20-35 (57%)

    3rd and Middle (3-4) Defense
    Run: 9-16 (56%)
    Pass: 6-13 (46%)
    Total 15-29 (52%)

    3rd and Long (5+) Defense
    Run: 8-28 (29%)
    Pass: 47-112 (42%)
    Total: 55-140 (39%)

Here’s the really telling defensive stat. I broke down all the 3rd downs over 8 yards…
    3rd and 8+ Defense
    Run: 3-16 (19%)
    Pass: 31-74 (42%)
    Total: 34-90 (38%)

Teams opting to run at this yardage were mainly playing field position and not trying to make. The passing conversions on 3rd and 8+ were ridiculously bad.

  72. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 3:14 pm

70.. It was a different situation completely. UH really messed it up. UH had plenty of time and chances to keep Jones. Also, UH promoted from within, so there was stability and I don’t think the players were too upset. Incoming recruits knew pretty quickly that the RnS was still going to be there so they didn’t have a ton of de-commits after Jones left. Only a couple, like every year.

Only Grice-Mullins and Bess were the only casualties on the returning roster with Jones leaving.

  73. Old School Dave December 2, 2013 3:29 pm

#64: I think in cases when a coach leaves for another job, the players he recruited should be allowed to transfer without having to sit out a year. If I’m not mistaken, this has been proposed to the NCAA, but don’t know if it has gotten anywhere.

  74. Old School Dave December 2, 2013 3:30 pm

Sorry, my post was meant for #66 and not myself 🙂 (although I’ve been accused of having conversations with myself).

  75. obachan December 2, 2013 3:44 pm

74 LOL; yes that is an age-acquired trait.

  76. Rite80 December 2, 2013 4:03 pm

Norm Chow is having a pro-day after leaving the seniors out to dry for the past two years?

  77. boolakanaka December 2, 2013 4:15 pm

Seahawks are putting it on the Saints. Like or dislike Pete, the man does win.

  78. Rodney December 2, 2013 4:33 pm

  79. Rodney December 2, 2013 4:40 pm

    Defense started the season ahead
of offense, but the defense got worse
    and the offense came around.
Love TK but we need a new DC.
    Is anyone at USC available?
    Oggeron?

  80. kapakahi December 2, 2013 5:10 pm

    #62.

Castro looked plenty thick enough……from what I saw of him at last night’s luau.

Also, Meffy gonna get another look at TE this Spring……since only Moleni & Long available…..if Vele gets another look at FB…..to compete with Fa’alologo.

  81. kapakahi December 2, 2013 5:21 pm

    #64 & #66,

Sounds like true frosh DL Joe Mathis now thinking about leaving.

Would be nice if true soph OG Shane Brostek considers leaving too.

Both were previously offered by Coach out of HS.

  82. jm2375 (iPad) December 2, 2013 5:25 pm

I don’t remember people calling for Glanville’s head when we were at the bottom of the rankings for defense. Was it because we were winning or because it was the legendary Glanville?

  83. kapakahi December 2, 2013 5:30 pm

    #80,

Orgeron said to be looking for HC position somewhere……but DC Clancy Pendergast looks like he’ll become available.

Pendergast was DC for the Arizona Cardinals for 5 seasons (including the year they got to the Super Bowl) then for KC Chiefs for 1 season……then 3 seasons at Cal under Tedford……before becoming SC’s DC this season.

    #47 & #52,

Coaches apparently looking to sign a JC transfer at LB to come in and compete this coming Spring Ball…..since losing Daley & Laurel.

  85. kapakahi December 2, 2013 5:45 pm

Sounding like UDub is now gonna possibly target UCLA HC Jim Mora Jr.

    83

It was because of the style of offense JJ ran. Chow was running a ball control offense which is designed to win the time of possession and keep the defense off the field. Chow didn’t begin to win the time of possession until the weaker part of the schedule. The defense did underperform though.

  87. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 5:55 pm

    83… Both

    That’s the power of winning.

  88. Warrior Dave December 2, 2013 6:13 pm

My my let the speculation begin. Makes for an interesting offseason.

  89. Kevin December 2, 2013 6:14 pm

The typical sports fan is generally NOT complicated.

When you are 12-0 the ha’a and haka discussions are all about the type it is and they should do this and do that with it, etc…

When you are .500 or sub .500, the ha’a and haka discussions are mostly about it being a waste of time.

When you are 12-0 the idea of having retro night brings up memories of past UH football teams with a twinkle in everyone’s eye and 90% of the people think UH should do it. “I would like to see the Rainbow one more time” says 90% of the fans.

When you are winless the idea of retro night is dumb and ugly as if they forgot being retro means looking old school and old school at UH is the Rainbow… DUH!

So just a few small examples… the typical sports fan is NOT complicated. Throw in a few “big words” and 1-2 minutes on a morning or post game radio show and they think mixing in “um um um and uhhh uhhh” works with using clichés from Sportscenter highlights.

They just want wins and in the end its about business right?

  90. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 6:22 pm

86… My good friend said that UW was targeting Mora Jr before the Seahawks promoted him to HC in 2009. They had to settle on Sarkisian.

  91. gobows December 2, 2013 6:22 pm

kaumeyer has never had a winning season while serving as dc for 3 different teams.

wonder if chow knows another ga that he can bring in to be the dc.

  92. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 6:24 pm

90… Just remembah… 2/3 of DUH is UH

  93. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 6:35 pm

    92. Don’t think anyone is going straight from GA to DC, ever., just nowhere near enough experience to have a chance to be successful.

Maybe UH could pick off one of Sarkisian’s defensive assistants to promote to DC. Although, a position coach at a major school makes as much as UH pays their coordinators, and certainly USC will pay more for a DB coach than UH’s DC, so that lowers UH’s chances going that route.

  94. innocent observer December 2, 2013 6:36 pm

did chow coach with s sarkisian at usc, as oc? maybe steve would offer the oc to chow. that would be a blessing for Hawaii. but maybe not since chow has a dismal record at Hawaii. but we can dream. maybe chow can contact steve s. and inquire about the oc position.

  95. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 6:55 pm

Go ahead and put the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. They are 2 games ahead for the #1 seed in the NFC and home field. They aren’t losing at home this year. They just dismantled the Saints offense.

That secondary is sick. Carroll runs a nice scheme. Sort of a hybrid 4-4 with a DB lining up in the box and they rotate guys back to a cover 2 or 3.

  96. ai-eee-soos December 2, 2013 7:15 pm

Don’t know if Norm Chow was kidding –

but on his radio show, he said he called Ogeron, but he was on a plane

    headed home to New Orleans.

hmm … I wonder if the enraged bull, Ed Orgeron, would work for 199K.
    ———————————————————————————

  97. Bugaz December 2, 2013 7:27 pm

Coach Chow did mention on Call the Coach that he tried to call Orgeron. Wonder if it was for Chow to leave, he to come here, or just a kind gesture to a friend loosing a job.

  98. Bugaz December 2, 2013 7:28 pm

    Oops

  99. Bugaz December 2, 2013 7:29 pm

Ok who are the bounce back/BCS players thinking bout UH?

  100. Bugaz December 2, 2013 7:32 pm

Maybe Wa coaching staff goes to USC, UW gets UCLA coaches and UCLA gets Colorado coaches, then Sanchez decides to stay home and be a Warrior. Hahaha so many ifs

  101. Former UH Athlete December 2, 2013 7:45 pm

    98, probably a kind gesture.

Still can’t believe Orgeron is acting like this. He doesn’t get the job, so he quits. Even turning down an offer as the highest paid assistant in the country. He won’t sniff that pay at his next job.

I understand him being disappointed with not getting the job, but man, what a terrible snap judgement. He’s going to wish he took the associate HC gig.

  102. UHfan808 December 2, 2013 7:46 pm

    Good Monday evening, Tsai-kos and Lurk-ers! 🙂

May the meetings be fruitful and productive!

Enjoyed last nite’s Warrior banquet. Wish there were a couple more games for us to see.

  103. 808WarriorFan December 2, 2013 7:47 pm

Yeah we need corners desperately … Ne’Quan Phillips is a joke

  104. kapakahi December 2, 2013 7:50 pm

    #100,

    See #82.

  105. kapakahi December 2, 2013 7:59 pm

    #95,

Chow and Sark aren’t on the best of terms. While Sark played QB for Chow at BYU, their relationship soured when Pete Carroll turned over the playcalling responsibilities to Sark while both were at SC.

Chow didn’t once mention Sark while mentioning that he tried to contact Ed Orgeron today. Pretty safe bet that Chow probably didn’t bother to try and call Sark.

  106. kapakahi December 2, 2013 8:01 pm

    #104,

CBs (possibly from the JC ranks) and DEs are definitely the top defensive recruiting priorities.

  107. View from afar December 2, 2013 8:13 pm

Just a thought, but Cal backup QB and one of their starting OL looking to transfer.

    http://www.mercurynews.com/sports/ci_24634009/cals-zach-kline-says-he-will-transfer

  108. kapakahi December 2, 2013 8:35 pm

    #108,

Tagaloa would still have 2 to play 2 after redshirting next 2014 season.

  109. kapakahi December 2, 2013 8:39 pm

Transferring out after 1st season under new coach are understandable……especially for players recruited to a different scheme & philosophy.

  110. Ka`imiloa December 2, 2013 9:26 pm

104… …and you have no class to insult a player.

  111. kev-1 December 2, 2013 9:30 pm

Tony Grimes “retired” from football but will participate in the pro day? Come on. Dude quit after dropping down the depth chart then being moved to offense. He came here to start, didn’t, then quit.

    Good luck in the pros.

  112. kapakahi December 2, 2013 9:31 pm

    #111,

    Agreed. Gotta support our players!

  113. kapakahi December 2, 2013 9:34 pm

    #73,

Schools (ADs and coaches) opposed it.

  114. Inyoface December 2, 2013 9:38 pm

Miano would be a good DC.

  115. tommui December 2, 2013 9:56 pm

Each player that plays for UH should be highly commended for their effort and dedication. Many did not have to come across the ocean to play, but they did; many did not have to spend hours of toil and sweat in the weight rooms and early mornings on the practice fields or gym, but they do; many do not have to put up with derogatory comments from supposed fans, but they do.

I only wish some of the Bloggers will show their dedication to the UH and its athletes with donations to UHADm but they won’t.

  116. Leahi2 December 2, 2013 11:01 pm

Pat Haden had his chance. If he had hired NC to be their HC, he possibly could have had another NC coached all American QB. He also could have had TK as their defensive coordinator. I don’t think Uof H would have penalized NC for leaving before his contract expired. This whole thing makes me wonder about the Mormon movement. Sarkisian is also a Mormon isn’t he? Think about it!

Miano would be a good DC.

Do you remember what it was like when Miano/Lumpkin were co-DC’s under JJ?

    Do you remember?

    Do you remember?
