Urban, Santos to travel

Two walk-ons — center Brenden Urban and kicker Ceejay Santos — are on the tentative 64-player travel roster for the two-game, 10-day road trip against Utah State and Navy.

Urban, who has played well on scout team this fall, provides the Rainbow Warriors with an extra lineman for the practices between the two road games. Santos is Tyler Hadden’s understudy on kickoffs and point-kicking attempts.

* * * * *

Kickoff returner Bubba Poueu-Luna has a hamstring injury and will not make the trip. Chris Gant, Diocemy Saint Juste or Kwamane Bowens will be used as the deep returners on kickoffs.

* * * * *

The Mountain West restricts travel rosters to 64 players for league games. There are no roster limits for non-conference games. But with UH’s financial situation, the Rainbow Warriors will only change the roster for the non-conference game against Navy if an injury substitution is needed.

Instead of encouragement and praise Norm Chow is using public reticule to build leadership among his starting QB’s. I don’t get it.

Game to be on CBS Sports Network this weekend. Thanks to the Mountain West for streaming the last two games. I’ll stop saying Waste instead of West (for now)

  13. Wes'side Warrior October 30, 2013 7:41 am

Hope hiring Colt isn’t just an advertising ploy to help build a fan base for the LA Kiss, but a real offer at proving his worth.

AFL football is real fast paced, in-your-face personal football. I mean, we could actually talk story and high-five players and coaches during time-outs, etc. There are times when they come flying over the wall and land in your lap. You are THAT close to the action. And when the game’s done, all (home team) players are required to stick around after the game for an autograph/picture taking session with fans.

Lord knows we have tons of Hawai’i expatriates and fans on the mainland, especially in SoCal. So, it will be great to see Tsai-ko pics with Colt in the future.

Good luck, Colt. Always wishing for the best for former UH athletes.

  14. NYUHTX October 30, 2013 7:43 am

    good luck to Colt.

Congrats Colt!! Sounds like you were able to sign with a Big market team with owners that are financially sound. I can’t wait to see him on the field again.

Colt loves fans so he will have no problems mingling with them. Hope we get to see Colt play on TV here in Hawaii.

  27. Wes'side Warrior October 30, 2013 10:15 am

    Primo…

“Meanwhile, on the day his team announced signing the cornerstone of its franchise, Simmons was tweeting what we can only hope are the ideas the teams is bouncing around for its promotional giveaways…”

If I read that article right, they are referring to Colt as the cornerstone of their franchise. With his accuracy and quick release, he will hopefully find a nice home in LA for a long time. There are a few different rules, and the field is a lot smaller (to the point of almost being too “cozy”). But once he makes that adjustment, this is a fun, explosive game to watch and be a part of.

I just really hope he does well. Tired of hearing Boo Birds. Want to hear some positive stuff for a change.

Moniz was doing well in Georgia. Mike Washington is still doing his thing with I think Pittsburgh. And there’s a couple other local boys out on the west coast, I think. Haven’t paid much attention once the Georgia Force closed shop.

  28. SteveM October 30, 2013 10:20 am

    Good morning everyone!

  30. Former UH Athlete October 30, 2013 12:00 pm

Ouch.. just saw the line for Saturday’s Utah St game…

    Hawaii (+23).

I haven’t’ watched Utah St since Keeton got hurt, so I don’t have good knowledge of how they are reacting. There box scores shows that they did alright in his absence, but upon closer look, Utah pulled a UH vs Boise St by scoring 13 4th quarter points to close the score to 34-23 after they were being dominated going into 4th quarter.

Utah St beat a hapless New Mexico team, so hard to draw a lot from it. Utah St didn’t need a QB because New Mexico can’t stop anybody on the ground all year and last week was no different. USU ran for 337yd. USU loaded up vs the option and shut down UNM.

Based off stats and who they’ve played, I definitely don’t have a good feel for USU without Keeton. I’m leaning toward Hawaii covering as I don’t think USU is good enough to be a 23 point favorite over anybody without Keeton.

Oddsmakers had USU as 12-13 point favorites over UNM and it turned into a blowout… I think the 23 points is an overreaction from USU’s win over UNM last week. I think this line should be around 17.

  31. Former UH Athlete October 30, 2013 12:09 pm

    Just came to mind….

Chow should go get former Notre Dame QB Everett Golson. He was booted from ND for academic issues. He’s available and is a good player. Admitted to cheating scandal. Ready to move on.

Any chance Chow can get a hold of him for a potential transfer?

  32. Former UH Athlete October 30, 2013 12:11 pm

He wouldn’t be the first quarterback to leave his 1st college on bad terms and in arrive in Hawaii for a reboot.

  33. 3-Prong October 30, 2013 12:18 pm

Looks like out Gunslinger is getting back in the saddle. Go Colt. We never stopped believing!

UH is a terrible travelling team.

    Cold weather

    Thin air

I’m liking Navy in the second game of the road trip…….GOY material…….UH has NEVER won the 2nd game….PLUS playing this gimmick offense……..cold…..brrr……

  39. primo123 October 30, 2013 1:24 pm

my kids always used to tell me….its not cheating unless you get caught….makes me go, hmmmmmmmm????

  40. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 30, 2013 1:29 pm

How often does Navy like to run towards the edge? Nuff said.

  41. 3-Prong October 30, 2013 1:35 pm

whitey, had but neva like go on my hook…hehe. Saw them on the fish finder but friend told me, “you shoulda been here in August during the peak”. Had fun catching Dungeness and seeing all the wildlife.

BUT you remember when Wags was here with the triple option, they’d always run it up the gut.

    Travis Simms baby!!!

  43. Ipu Man October 30, 2013 1:53 pm

Just plug the gaps…don’t get pulled away by misdirection…

  44. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 30, 2013 1:57 pm

we were able to stuff navy’s offense a few years ago. we can do it again if we prepare properly for it.

  45. primo123 October 30, 2013 1:59 pm

    #45

We going to miss Dave Arranda’s direction……he was a master at stopping that offense.

I dont have confidence in our linebackers, who have been MIA for a couple of weeks or more….

  46. primo123 October 30, 2013 1:59 pm

    I hope I’m wrong.

  47. Andrew October 30, 2013 2:12 pm

    46.

Not sure how effective it would be, but they do have the recording of that game vs Navy the last time they were here. They could see what strategy used that was so effective.

  48. WarriorNY October 30, 2013 2:14 pm

Hey guys saw this on SI. Pretty cool article..

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20131029/jordan-wynn/

  49. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 30, 2013 2:18 pm

Can’t rely on our d-line to stop the perimeter runs. The linebackers in the last game were warm-cold-warm-cold so who knows who or what will show up on the defensive side of the ball.

What kind of offense does Utah State run? I almost forgot about that game.

  50. PolyMom October 30, 2013 2:19 pm

We were going to see the LA KISS team. Now we might buy season tickets with Colt back on the field!

So grateful my prayers were answered for him.

Hawaii got torched by the option last year. Same coaches, why expect different results. Dc is clueless on how to prepare for the option. Coaches watching film will have no effect. Navy will get at least 250 yards on the ground.

  53. primo123 October 30, 2013 3:15 pm

    #53

    only 250?

  54. primo123 October 30, 2013 3:16 pm

plus…being on the road, can’t practice, cant sleep good, cold weather, etc etc……

    maybe +350 yards

  55. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 3:30 pm

Sox…4-0 … Shane V. bases loaded 3 rbi double, almost a grand slam!…..Shane is a big time playa!

  56. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 3:32 pm

Ortiz is being walked every time he comes up if man is on base…must be a drag for him.

  57. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 3:33 pm

Victorino started Wacha’s march to the bench. Sox been hitting Wacha very hard since Shane’s hit.

  58. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 3:39 pm

    Victorino up again…bases loaded 2 outs…

  59. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 3:40 pm

    Big Pappy….. .688 batting average……..wins it

  67. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 4:27 pm

I wouldn’t have a problem with Big Pappy winning it..every time he comes up I looking for the long ball or something. His BA is off the charts in post season thing year.

  68. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 4:29 pm

Cowherd making a stink about Big Pappy being “dirty”. Must be slow news day for him. Got to create controversy so got something to talk about.

  69. aiea boy October 30, 2013 5:10 pm

does Steven Wright get a ring?

  70. Cindy n Greg Cee October 30, 2013 5:28 pm

Hi to our TsaiKo pals! We arrived in Bangkok,Thailand yesterday and it is nice to access Rainbow Warrior news/Warrior blog.
    Go Warriors!!!!

  71. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 5:29 pm

    Sox win it!….

  72. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 5:30 pm

Everybody on the team gets a ring.

  73. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 5:32 pm

Shane Victorino got the party started with his first hit of the World Series, a three-run double high off the Green Monster against Cardinals rookie starter Michael Wacha, who was 4-0 with a 1.00 ERA in the postseason before struggling in Game 6.

  74. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 5:33 pm

It was a grand return for Victorino, who missed the previous two games with tightness in his back. And it was the second straight series that Victorino broke out of his slump on clinch night. Against the Tigers in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series, the outfielder did it with a grand slam.

  75. 3-Prong October 30, 2013 5:39 pm

    Shane Victorino , Double Shaka….Cool!

  76. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 5:46 pm

    Who will the MVP be?..?

  77. papajoe2 October 30, 2013 5:48 pm

Shane usually does good after an extended rest. 2 days of not playing in the World Series surely pumped him up. Congrats Shane! As for Colton, he got a taste, is very young, and will be back.

  78. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 5:49 pm

    Big Pappy!!!!

  79. NorthShoreFan October 30, 2013 5:56 pm

Kolten will be spinning for a while. After things settle in he will know what he’s been involved in. He will get bigger, stronger and faster. He is with a great organization that builds from the inside out and hopefully he’ll be the starting at second next year.

  80. al October 30, 2013 7:33 pm

    #32…huh?

  81. al October 30, 2013 7:39 pm

kolten has nothing to be ashamed of there’s 27 outs in a game.
he was 1 for 1 with a stolen base. he’s got national league championship ring and is paid big bucks.

    and he’s a good kid.

  82. al October 30, 2013 7:43 pm

come back player of the year…?

    shane victorino or big papi?

  85. oldie October 30, 2013 9:50 pm

Shane Victorino in post season play with the bases loaded: 6 for 8 with 2 grand slams and 20 runs batted in. Just unreal in the clutch.

  86. Maddog50 October 31, 2013 3:00 am

Not real optimistic…..but anything is possible….just looking for a win. Good news I do not have to watch/attempt to watch the MW sttream as it “buffers” last week I had to listen to the radio and do live stats at the same time…..let’s get a W…..Go Warriors

  91. Buffoman October 31, 2013 5:55 am

I am a big Chow fan.

I was also a big McMackin fan, and a June Jones fan and a Von Appen fan and a Wagner Fan and a Tomey fan and a Price fan and a Holmes fan.

I am a fan of the team…coaches, players, all of them, all of the time. Not always happy with the results, but support all of them all of the time. IF there is a change, I’ll support the next guy, win or lose.

  92. d1shima October 31, 2013 5:57 am
