Game day: Nevada

RENO — Nevada quarterback Cody Fajardo will not play today. He was in sweats during warmups. Freshman Tyler Stewart gets the start.

UH freshman receivers Marcus Kemp and Keith Kirkwood, both of whom worked extensively with the No. 1 unit this week, are expected to start.

Iuta Tepa is expected to start at defensive right end.

    Ekahi !!

Got the game ordered on Pay per View, the Cooler is filled with beer, and the Poke is ready to go.

    Beat Navada !

  2. tommui September 21, 2013 7:57 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

Instead of “hit me”, HIT THEM!

  3. Pupule September 21, 2013 7:58 am

Hmmm. Nothing rhymes with hug me. It’s really starting to bug me.

    Hey !

    Go Warriors !

  4. Pupule September 21, 2013 8:00 am

Navada ? Try “Nevada”. Damn fat fingers…..

  5. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 8:04 am

Fajardo’s status is still uncertain, only Polian and Fajardo know at this time. The Wolfpack blog has him as questionable.

Pretty funny, but the Nevada blog has advantage Nevada in all position group comparisons other than LB and DB. Just a little bias there as their QB situation is a mess with injuries and their 5th string RB starting fall camp is starting vs Hawaii.

Pretty hilarious that they gave advantage Nevada on the DL even though they have given up 58 and 62 points to their two FBS opponents. Nevada has given up 722yards of rushing to their FBS opponents while UH has given up 249yards in their two games. So yeah, it’s obvious that the Nevada DLine is better than Hawaii’s.

Pretty clear their blog writer only is looking at box scores for his analysis. The sports betting radio chatter that I’ve heard regarding this game all mentioned that UH made improvements on both sides from game 1 to 2 and were impressed with UH’s ability to stuff Storm Woods and OSU’s run game. The line has moved so much that the sports betting people will probably side with Nevada based on betting value.

  6. NYUHTx September 21, 2013 8:10 am

I was beginning to hope ST was still at the tables.

FUHA: Hope your forecast for the offense is off a few years. I’m hoping they get it together tonight.

    http://www.nevadawolfpack.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/091713aaa.html

Hopefully they will stream the game tonight.

ST: How much are steak dinners in Reno?

  8. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 8:18 am

Nevada blog says players to watch for is Iosefa and Art Laurel. Doesn’t mean anything really. Everybody will watch Iosefa as it’s his first action for 2013.

Don’t know if it’s true or not, but Michael Gooding of SB Nation (M.W.Connection)reported that St Juste is the #2 RB this week, Lakalaka is the #3.

That bodes well as St Juste may have a breakout party tonight. Nevada has no tape of him and what he’s capable of other than a couple runs with no blocking and him getting tackled near the line.

This is the most healthy and intact UH has been since Chow took over, so should be fun to watch the everybody play. Especially Kennedy Tulimasealii. Michael Gooding actually made a mention of Kennedy and several Bows ready to go from injuries, so at least he’s more aware of Hawaii than the RGJ blog writer.

  9. kev-1 September 21, 2013 8:19 am

I’m guessing Fajardo plays. He’s dangerous, everyone knows that. What better test for our hungry true freshman DE? I am hoping that Kennedy makes Fajardo wish he was still on the sidelines.

    GO (rainbow) WARRIORS!!!

Anybody else notice how adding ‘rainbow’ in there throws off the rhythm of the chant?

  10. Will-I-Am September 21, 2013 8:21 am

PPV- does anyone else think that PPV is bad for the long term. Residents either have to be paying supporters or they are left by the wayside. What about the next generation.

  20. Old Diver September 21, 2013 8:32 am

Fajardo’s condition and playing status is only uncertain to UH. His ability to play is known and certain to the Nevada coaches.

  21. kev-1 September 21, 2013 8:35 am

It’s hard to wait until game time. This game means a lot for the team AND for us fans. A lot of questions will be answered today.

    GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!!!

    Aloha all!

  23. boolakanaka September 21, 2013 8:38 am

And in the other really big game today, Yale plays Colgate (well, maybe not such a big game) featuring Kola Buck, Yale starting DE, formerly all-ILH at Punahou.

  24. NYUHTx September 21, 2013 8:40 am

RE: PPV. When you charge for subscriptions, viewers decrease and advertisers are unhappy. Does your PPV have ads? I’m still used to the old KFVE model.

  25. nanakuli September 21, 2013 8:41 am

Call good plays Coach Chow. We need to score at lease 30 to beat Nevada. The defense should be ready for Rolo to try every trick in the book to beat Hawaii.

  26. A-House September 21, 2013 8:49 am

Like I said UH vs BYU, hit McMahon in the knee!!! neva hoppan, but still yelled.

what rhymes with “hit me” – hittum in the knee

bet only the “field” – interesting tactic, but probably a losing one and not much profit unless the shooter keeps rolling 2 or 12 and everything between except a 7 – to win big, one must bet big and that’s where I chicken out cause limited funds – also must put green chips on the “hard ways” or “snake eyes” or “tracks” or “yo” for the big odds

on our last trip before going to Oregon, I ran into my intel SGM who gave me a copy of Boyd’s magazine, opened the page and showed me his picture with 63 rolls!!! – then I asked him, “how much did you win SGM” and he smiled and walked away – as did his wife!

since I’m “chicken” when it comes to putting green chips on the craps table, I wonder if I would have placed complete trust in him and after his 23rd roll, placed $100 on the 4, 5, 9, and 10 with $150 on the 6 and 8 with $100 on all the “hard ways” – if he rolled a “soft” hard way, I still would have made $$$ – but, if he hit the “hard” 4 or 6 or 8 or 10 – whoa, big bucks in my pockets – let’s see, now that would be $1,100 on the table – and the dream continues with my “doubling” the $1,100 and sit back and smile at him

reality says, that eye no mo dat kine $$$ to spend in Vegas

I did promise Mrs A-House if I hit it big, it would be 1st class all the way with $25,000 cash to play for 5 days/nights = heck that’s only $5,000/day!!!

must be nice to be “rich” and not worry about finances – but, would I be happy? HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

going to Windward Mall to shop, eat, and watch the game in the food court.

  27. PolyMom September 21, 2013 8:49 am

Agree Tom Mui…hit um and hit um HARD!

Did anyone ever hear of the rule where a Coach can ask to run the clock? That just happened in the Louisville game. ST…ever heard of that rule?

Go Hawaii, GO Bulkdogs, beat Colgate!

  28. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 8:50 am

    Good morning, Tsai-kos and Lurk-ers!!

Good morning to lurker WhiteBear, too! I think you must be up and at em ready to watch the game! Hehe 🙂 Good seeing you yesterday during training! Hahaha

    Good morning, gang!

Hope everyone enjoys watching the game.

    Hi, UHfan808!

    GO WARRIORS! LET’s! GO! BOWS!

    Laters!

  32. Cincodemayonnaise September 21, 2013 8:54 am

Only thing “certain” is no matter what QB plays is that our defense will hit him and hit him hard for 4 quarters. So the question is, do you wanna chance it with your starter on a bad wheel so early in the season?

I don’t care who plays QB, i thought we’d beat Nevada straight up after watching their last two games. Tbey ain’t that good plain and simple. Fresno on the other hand…..whoa.

  33. A-House September 21, 2013 8:54 am

    wafan:

    wazz up with “kinpira”?

been a long time since I ate tasty one – my dad used to cook very tasty and somewhat “hot” kinpira – of course, we did all the prep work in washing the gobo and slicing them into little bit size pieces – add shoyu, sugar, MSG, sake – can’t take MSG any more as the hands become swollen

happy days and good health to you and IZZY! – hello, Izzy!

  34. A-House September 21, 2013 8:57 am

    PolyMom:

are you in Reno? enjoy the WIN!!!

Funny conversation I overheard at the Food Court the other day:

“Eh, Lolo. No bet your whole paycheck on da UH game. Later on you going take it out on your wife, kids, and dog.”

A-House actually I’m a very lucky person. I’ve NEVER deposited anywhere. My Mom said I was born with GOOD LUCK. I sat next to her at a quarter machine the last time she was here in Cali. Sometimes we go to Agua Caliente if we are to lazy to drive to Vegas. I put in 5 bucks and won 1650 dollars. I play Bacharat it’s the only game where the odds are in our favor. It’s a Chinese thing. We all fight for that table. LOL!

  39. Stretch September 21, 2013 9:23 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!!

Been thinking about the Colorado game. I think UH should play the game BUT make it on Thursday. After the UNLV game, they can stay in the mainland to prepare. They would be able to get back home on Friday and would still give them an extra few days before Colorado State. I am sure Colorado would not want a Thursday game, but if they are desperate, they might go for it.

  40. markazulu September 21, 2013 9:28 am

Todays game i think our offense is the major factor if we can produce longer drives and we get a better 3rd down percentage then i think we will do fine.

  41. markazulu September 21, 2013 9:34 am

I know everyone likes to bring up the negatives including myself but lets also talk about how this team has played really disciplined football i dont recall a lot of penalties being called an im very impressed they are well coached. Just needs to execute is all.

USC vs Utah State on abc right now

  42. Hilo-Warrior September 21, 2013 9:36 am

HERE WE GO!!! Go Get Em Warriors!!!

    Oh and good morning Taikos.

    I am saying

    UH 31

    UNR 20

  43. markazulu September 21, 2013 9:37 am

Cody kessler is the full time starting qb. Utah state is a very very underrated team this year.

  44. 99club September 21, 2013 9:41 am

One of your funnier posts, ST. 🙂

#39 – Stretch Interesting idea for a Thursday game at Colorado. That’d work out well for UH and it might tempt certain networks to pick up the game for broadcast. Maybe that’s why the deal is still in the works?

Hoping for a big win tonight. Go Rainbow Warriors!

  45. Jjay September 21, 2013 9:49 am

Why is Stutzman not on the trip. He is the most experienced receiver is he in the dog house? We have a right to know ! Come on Tsai do your job!

  46. Da Punchbowl Kid September 21, 2013 9:50 am

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    WHIP DA WOOFS!!!

“dug me” rhymes with “hug me”. Lotsa ways to interpret that.

  47. Hank September 21, 2013 9:50 am

Once I was playing BJ at a table with four other players at New York New York when a dealer showed a 6.

Some “genius” at the end of the table (3rd base?) decides to get greedy and SPLITS HIS TENS.

The dealer ends up with 21 when he would’ve busted if our genius had stood.

    why indeed.

  48. Hank September 21, 2013 10:04 am

I look forward to our offense benefiting from Joey’s return…not only in grinding out yards but also on passing downs because he has 2-years of experience picking up blockers. He’s built like an offensive lineman.

    His return will help TG.

I’d also like to see Diocemy get some playing time.

  49. slenzi September 21, 2013 10:08 am

Watch UH vs Nevada live on Mountain West Conference Network TV:

    http://www.themwc.com/#!/watch-live

There is no indication that it is blacked-out for anyone.

  50. boolakanka September 21, 2013 10:12 am

Like everything else in Hawai’i, the game will be decided by pono. In short, Pono is always about balance. Thus, applied to football and the Warriors, it will be about balanced football; the offense carrying their equal load and not putting the D in precarious situations; special teams contributing with consistent play and providing a spark when needed; and the balance of executing the game plan–pono.

  51. slenzi September 21, 2013 10:13 am

Sports story! TV announcer just said that Lane Kiffin’s daughter was upset because of the “Fire Kiffin” chants last week. Oh-Oh! Someone please take her home before the 4th quarter.

  52. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 10:16 am

    markazulu:

For a moment there, I thought you had everyone speechless. 😉

Hoping for a good, hard fought game today. Just no embarrassment, please.

Today is redemption day. Today is the day we see that spark turn into a flame.

    GOOOO BOWS!!!

  55. boolakanka September 21, 2013 10:27 am

Watching the ND v Mich State, Fou Fonoti, their starting RT is very athletic–wonder if he is related to Fonotis I played with (Raymond-UH) and younger brother David (ASU)?

  56. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 10:30 am

“redemption day” …. reminds me of those days that we counted 10 or more filled gold bond stamp books and took them to the old Gold Bond building on Ala Moana Blvd.

  57. slenzi September 21, 2013 10:34 am

Boola, not sure about your use of ‘pono’ in its spiritual sense to connote balance. Quite a stretch. Mrs. Noa gonna take back that “A” she gave you in Hawaiian Studies. Can someone think of better Hawaiian word or words to express thoughts in #50?

  58. cocobean September 21, 2013 10:36 am

TG and the O…..just score, baby.

  59. boolakanka September 21, 2013 10:48 am

57–Don’t know about that–I had 4 years of Hawaiian with Larry Kimura at UH, and although it certainly has a connotation of spirituality, Mary Kawena Pukui’, a rather iconic source of the native Hawaiian language, describes it as “a state of harmony or balance, or perfect alignment”. So, I’m pretty comfortable with the its usage.

  60. 808bowler September 21, 2013 11:17 am

just seen the line is down to 7.

    go warriors!!!!!!!

  61. PolyMom September 21, 2013 11:25 am

I love Larry Kimura. I asked him to come and give me the historical back ground of a piece of real estate in Keaukaha. After he said who spent time there. We bought it. It just felt right that I need to malama this certain piece of aina. But have to get rid of all the invasive species of plants. Number one priority.

  62. Old School Dave September 21, 2013 11:25 am

Looks like USU’s Matt Wells has simply picked up where Gary Andersen left off when he departed for Wisconsin. USU still hanging with USC 7-14 at the half.

  63. cocobean September 21, 2013 11:29 am

    Boola. #50.

You kinda described how Chow sees the game. He’s said that the offense is not only about scoring but also about moving the ball, giving the D some rest. Ideally the D should hold their ground. Force turnovers and punts. Give the O as short a field as possible. The ST’should win the battle of field position in the kicking game.

Chow made his rep on offense. But he’s old school. Bet he’ll tell you in private that the Defense wins championships.

  64. 99club September 21, 2013 11:36 am

So, let me get this straight. The line opened at Nevada -12.5. It is now down to Nevada -7 on game day. Quite a big move even considering the NV injuries. The NV injuries were public knowledge before the opening lines were set.

#48 Hank – I’m also looking forward to seeing Joey running again! Should be fun.

  65. Boolakanka September 21, 2013 11:43 am

    D always wins championships. It’s like golf-drive for show-putt for dough-Pono.

  66. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 11:44 am

Oh baby! Utah St just tied it at 14-14 vs USC… Colessium is silent

  67. NorthShoreFan September 21, 2013 11:45 am

    Game on…

Me thinks CF status “uncertain” means he will play.

Even with him playing, looking for a Warrior win today!

Quick stop at a b-party then off to Wahiawa for da game! O & O

    Go Warriors!

  68. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 11:48 am

62… Too early to tell. Once Keetan and GA’s core players are gone, then you see if the replacement can carry the torch.

Rocky Long was given high praise his first two seasons after Brady Hoke departed, but SDSU appears to have fallen off a cliff this year now that Hoke’s core guys graduated.

  69. WhiteBear September 21, 2013 11:48 am

UHfan808, great seeing you again at the conference. Thanks all your care and support of our public employees. I appreciate your positive comments on this blog. Go Rainbow Warriors, kick butt!

  71. RedZone September 21, 2013 11:51 am

    We get chance.

  72. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 11:51 am

Utah State holding their own against USC deep into the 3rd Qtr. 14 all.

  73. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 11:57 am

62… Many replacement coaches do well when they inherit a good roster and the offensive system/philosophies don’t change much.

Like what we saw when JJ left, he also took the best recruiting assistants with him. It’s now obvious that recruiting really dropped during Mack’s tenure and now Chow is picking up the pieces.

Yikes, USU must have studied too much UH v USC tape and now are letting rushers come through untouched. USU just punted back to Trojans

  74. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 12:00 pm

USU’s defense doing well…. Or is it USC’s offense looking bad again?

Probably both… Kiffen is as good as fired. Just a matter of him being allowed to finish the season or not.

  75. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 12:03 pm

Much like UH, Utah St is seeing blitz packages they’ve never seen before. Keaton is under early and constant pressure now. He’s running for his life now.

  78. Rodney September 21, 2013 12:05 pm

    This school’s roster shows:

10 guys from Florida, and others from Tenn., Georgia, Texas, Miss., and N. Carolina (SEC?)

    This school’s roster shows:

All these guys to to the same school.

    Re: Stutzman

It was posted earlier that his off season accident wasn’t because he “fell asleep” at the wheel.

  83. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 12:29 pm

Utah St getting very conservative on offense as it’s having a real tough time protecting Keeton.

Let’s see if they can pull some magic backed up on the 2

  84. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 12:31 pm

Nope… Keeton sacked after no protection… Then interfered with punt catch… That might be the end of USU’s upset bid.

  85. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 12:44 pm

Oh my god USC’s offense is so bad… USU still get chance.

  86. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 12:46 pm

Chuckle Keeton going through what Taylor Graham went through… Constantly getting hit on every drop back and no protection. Keeton is beat up.

  87. 99club September 21, 2013 12:49 pm

    Former UH Athlete:

Tough game for Keeton. Either his receivers drop the pass or he zips it in with too much mustard that they can’t catch it. Still get chance though…

  88. 99club September 21, 2013 12:54 pm

Switching to the Rutgers possible upset of Arkansas…

  89. 99club September 21, 2013 1:00 pm

Arkansas was up 24-7….lost to Rutgers 28-24. That helps Fresno’s case a bit.

  90. Matt September 21, 2013 1:01 pm

Had the opportunity to talk to Ben Jay earlier this afternoon. He certainly has a vision. The question is can he break through the bureaucracy in order to execute it. Heading to the game now. Hoping for a good showing by the Warriors!

  91. Stephen Tsai September 21, 2013 1:07 pm

It appears Iuta Tepa will start ahead of Tavita Woodard at right end today.

  94. G-money September 21, 2013 1:15 pm

Anybody at the game? Is fajardo warming up???

  95. kawika49 September 21, 2013 1:16 pm

Nice to have a supporter; that is a repository, for organic waste.

  96. 99club September 21, 2013 1:16 pm

Nevada’s QB Stewart is a 6’4″ red shirt freshman, according to the Phil Steele hymnal.

  97. 99club September 21, 2013 1:17 pm

    99

  98. Stephen Tsai September 21, 2013 1:17 pm

Rolos in the middle of Aloha Stadium? No you di-nt!

    Yo Warriors,

    Remember the Rolo-mo!

  100. 99club September 21, 2013 1:23 pm

I’ve always thought Rolo would have been a great name to use in K-bars.

  101. Stephen Tsai September 21, 2013 1:24 pm

    John:

For future reference, Wolf Pack is two words.

  102. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 1:29 pm

  109. kawika49 September 21, 2013 1:43 pm

My names is not john and (spells) is possessive. Try taking English in the next school year.

  110. Think2Much September 21, 2013 1:45 pm

If Fajardo is less than 90%, the coaches shouldn’t risk him for one game. The season is still young and they’d be foolish to expose him to possible season ending injury. With experienced returnees in Iosepa and Stutzman, etal,, this is UH best chance to pull an upset. If this were in Honolulu, I’d think Warriors would be favored.

  111. Gumby September 21, 2013 1:48 pm

Tyler Stewart is starting at QB in place of Fajardo.

    http://www.rgj.com/article/20130921/SPORTS06/130921008/Fajardo-out-third-string-Tyler-Stewart-start-Pack-QB-against-Hawaii-video-

  115. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:02 pm

Wow, no Fajardo. Kaumeyer needs to force Stewart to beat Uh with his arm. UH needs to pile the box and make Nevada one dimensional.

Stewart is nowhere near ready to start at D1. He’s got size and ok arm, but he’s really green. Eat em up!!!

    Go WARRIORS!!!!!!

    Hawaii 33-17

  118. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:10 pm

Kennedy puts pressure on Stewart to force a bad throw first play in!!! Yeah baby, nice start to his career.

  119. PolyMom September 21, 2013 2:11 pm

Can’t get anything on any sites.

    HELP!

  120. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:11 pm

Hawaii forces a 3 and out to start!

  121. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 2:11 pm

    Hey guys,

Am I the only one having problems with the mtw stream?

  122. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:12 pm

Iosefa smashes his way forward for a HAWAII 1st down!!! Took 6 Wolfpack defenders to get him down.

  123. Bryson September 21, 2013 2:14 pm

    Anyone streaming it?

  124. 99club September 21, 2013 2:14 pm

    WNY:

I’m not getting the stream to work either…

  125. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:15 pm

Graham scrambles forward for a 1st down!!! Good 1st drive so far. Nevada definitely does not have the size or athletes USC or OSU had.

  126. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:15 pm

mwc says its not available in my region apparently

  127. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:16 pm

St Juste BIG RUN 1st down!!!! 1st and 10 at the 16.

  128. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:16 pm

yeah so far just listening to the radio stream

  129. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:17 pm

so what is that 3 first downs thats 2 more than last week

  130. MattO September 21, 2013 2:18 pm

Los Angeles here – streaming’s not working either. Saying “Broadcaster is not currently streaming”

  131. kawika49 September 21, 2013 2:19 pm

    FG 3-0 Hawaii

  132. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 2:19 pm

    Das How Gunfunnit!

  133. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:20 pm

Ahh… Nevada forces a FG… Good!!! 3-0 Hawaii. Good start.

Graham did a nice job of checking to Harding on a big blitz by Nevada, almost got the 1st down, but I like the read by Graham.

Good job by UH on the 1st possessions of the game.

  134. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:20 pm

Thanks for doing the picks game, WarriorNY!

  135. kawika49 September 21, 2013 2:20 pm

Kickoff Hawaii…out of the end zone.

  136. kawika49 September 21, 2013 2:21 pm

    Sack by Laurel

  137. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:22 pm

Graham went 6 for 7 on 1st drive… very efficient.

    Art Laurel gets the SACK!!!

  138. MattO September 21, 2013 2:22 pm

D Line proving the Nevada writers wrong!

  139. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:22 pm

    grrrr

  140. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:23 pm

MattO,,, Nevada writers said Nevada had the better DLine even though they’ve been given up nearly 1,000 rushing yards in three games.

  141. kawika49 September 21, 2013 2:23 pm

3rd and 6 on the 6 for the wolves

  142. MattO September 21, 2013 2:24 pm

Former – yeah that was ridiculous. There’s earning your paycheck and then there’s that.

  143. kawika49 September 21, 2013 2:24 pm

    touchdown wolves

  144. MattO September 21, 2013 2:25 pm

Someone tell the streaming guys to turn the damn thing on.

  145. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:25 pm

nice job by the nevada qb and te

  146. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:26 pm

Shoot, UH bites on the play fake and gives up easy TD. 7-3 Nevada… Stewart made a good play on the big play but UH is eating up Nevada’s Oline right now.

Keep up the pressure… Just a matter of time before Stewart starts making freshmen mistakes. Not worried by that TD at all.

  147. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:26 pm

    dang it 3 : 6 us 😛

  148. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:27 pm

Blogging from my laptop is a whole bunch easier than from my phone!

  149. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:28 pm

    3 : 7

  150. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:28 pm

I think that’s 3 or 4 hits on Stewart so far… He’s going to start getting happy feet…

St juste 6 yards on 1st down… nice

  151. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:29 pm

Agreed former uh athlete heard tulimasealii already getting pressure on the qb

  152. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:29 pm

    Really liking st juste

  153. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:29 pm

Listening to the radio while watching the game on TV is like having ESP

    hehehe

and I have to pretend like I don’t know a thing

    haha

  154. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:30 pm

St Juste showing his talent… 14 more yards

Graham to Moleni for 13 yards and another 1st down.

  155. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:30 pm

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  156. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:31 pm

    CATCH it!!!

  157. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:32 pm

1:57 left in the first quarter

  158. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:32 pm

Im actually liking what i see from our offense right now.

  159. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:32 pm

just need to convert it into points lol

  160. 99club September 21, 2013 2:33 pm

    Don’t we have a kicker?

  161. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 2:33 pm

Iosefa inujured? is that what I heard them say?

  162. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:33 pm

St Juste showing some strength and dragging a defender, but short of 1st down… TG missed a throw and UH turns it over on downs.

Iosefa being looked at by trainers.

Can’t be wasting scoring opportunities, but UH’s offense is looking much better. Defense’s turn to make things happen

  163. Isaac September 21, 2013 2:33 pm

anyone streaming it?? i’m looking everywhere, no luck so far. I can’t afford $75 for a 3hr game, seriously why isn’t it being offered online??

  164. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:34 pm

    Iosefa going to locker room…

  165. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:34 pm

iosefa going into the locker room 🙁

  166. MattO September 21, 2013 2:34 pm

Yep – iosefa heading to the locker room. Yikes.

  167. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:35 pm

Tepa making presence felt… makes tackle. Chow’s new toys making impact today… uh oh… Solomon breaks a big play.

  168. MattO September 21, 2013 2:35 pm

Big 3rd down conversion AGAIN? Really?

  169. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:35 pm

    damn another big play

  170. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:36 pm

Hmm… UH gave up two huge plays so far. Other than those two, they are doing fine.

  171. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:37 pm

    our d line looking good

  172. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:38 pm

FUMBLE!!!!! ah shoot… ball went out bounds. Penalty on UNR.., 5 yards back. Saisau is hurt… limping off field.

  173. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:39 pm

Nevada hitting UH with delayed routes off play action, defenders aren’t accounting for them as they initially block, then release to flat.

  174. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:40 pm

    168 –

    According to yesterday’s blog:

    Post #71 Ben A Lurker:

  175. MattO September 21, 2013 2:40 pm

    #178 – that’s a coaching adjustment

  176. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 2:41 pm

Nevada makes TDs look incredibly easy. Can we get Fajardo back? Lol

  177. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:42 pm

    3 : 13

  178. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:42 pm

hawaii getting chewed up by the te and the rb

  179. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 2:42 pm

    3 : 14

    Let’s go Warriors!!

  180. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:42 pm

but plenty time our offense needs to put it into the endzone though

  181. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:43 pm

The TEs are killing Hawaii right now. Kaumeyer needs to make adjustments. Defense not accounting for all receivers.

Big plays all came off blown coverages.

  182. MattO September 21, 2013 2:44 pm

Didn’t we have trouble with TEs last year too?

  183. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:45 pm

Yeah our offense looks improved im liking that and our defense is able to get pressure problem is coverage we hold um down then they get a busted play.

  184. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:46 pm

the momentum is all in nevadas corner right now.

  185. Wes'side Warrior September 21, 2013 2:47 pm

    Let’s go, Warriors!!!

  186. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:48 pm

    Bad… 3 and out

Good… punt downed inside the Nevada 10.

Let’s see if Kaumeyer makes his adjustments. DLine doing well, but too many blown coverages so far.

  187. 99club September 21, 2013 2:48 pm

MWC has been advertising that this game would be streamed on MW Network for months. Damn liars. If they are not going to provide it, they should let Oceanic and UH make some $ with PPV streaming.

  188. Isaac September 21, 2013 2:48 pm

UHfan808, thanks for the links but both don’t appear to be up…looks like the Nevada site is also streaming it but got a ‘not available in your region’ message, i.e. greedy ass oceanic has it blacked out

  189. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:49 pm

Iosefa and Moleni out for game…

  190. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:49 pm

wow iosefa and moleni are out for the whole game

  191. gobows September 21, 2013 2:49 pm

    #97

    organic waste…aint that the shhtt

  192. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:50 pm

    Crap… Hawaii can’t make a 3rd down stop.

  193. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:51 pm

UH is giving up a ton of big plays on 3rd down

  194. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:51 pm

    nevada 5-6 3rd down conversion

  195. PolyMom September 21, 2013 2:52 pm

Why Iosefa out? Can’t see game.

  196. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 2:52 pm

Cheating on Nevada (holding)… bring it back…

  197. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:52 pm

somebody needs to fire up our boys lol

  198. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 2:52 pm

It’s on MW channel now guys!

  199. MattO September 21, 2013 2:52 pm

    STREAMING IS UP!

  200. Warrior Dave September 21, 2013 2:52 pm

Rolo is calling timely plays so far. Both went for big gains against our strong rush.

  201. jonj September 21, 2013 2:53 pm

looks like Rolo is putting on a clinic for chow with his 3rd string QB and 3 string RB

  202. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:53 pm

    @polymom

I believe iosefa foot is acting up again

now we can watch the pain too lol

  205. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:54 pm

@jonj I wouldnt necessary call it a “clinic” but i would say they are getting big plays when they need it the most (3rd down)

  206. gobows September 21, 2013 2:55 pm

    finally a 3rd down stop. nevada 5 for 7 on 3rd.

  207. markazulu September 21, 2013 2:56 pm

Iosefa trying to talk to the trainers

  208. MattO September 21, 2013 2:57 pm

  209. Isaac September 21, 2013 2:57 pm

  218. 99club September 21, 2013 3:01 pm

    214, 215.

Witopia: $50. Download and pick a location on the mainland for your IP. I use it for watching British TV shows making like I’m in England.

  219. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:02 pm

graham left shoulder warming up schroder

  220. Isaac September 21, 2013 3:03 pm

Anyone who’s in Hawaii able to watch the live stream??

  221. MattO September 21, 2013 3:04 pm

Did they really just switch to volleyball?

  222. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 3:05 pm

They just switched to Volleyball… WTF?

  223. PolyMom September 21, 2013 3:05 pm

Oh no. I can get the VB. But not the FB game.

  224. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 3:05 pm

This is really terrible. I can’t wait to hear all the excuses after this game. Once Shroeder goes down, one of the positives will be that Higgins will come in and lead the team.

  225. MattO September 21, 2013 3:05 pm

That’s messed up. That’s really, really messed up. I can’t believe they cut the feed and are streaming volleyball now.

  226. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:06 pm

The injuries are piling up for hawaii

  227. jonj September 21, 2013 3:06 pm

Graham leaving might be the best thing.

@markazulu from what it sounds like since i cant watch it sounds like hes putting on a clinic. no problem moving the ball and 11 of 14 187 yds n 2tds??

  228. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 3:06 pm

This is turning into a cluster £^%*.

    Damn.

  229. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 3:08 pm

  230. Warrior Dave September 21, 2013 3:09 pm

    Jonj,

That’s a terrible thing to say. Show some class!!!

  231. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 3:09 pm

I finally got a feed here in Hawaii but had to do it the round about way. First I had to set up a free VPN connection at http://www.superfreevpn.com/win7-free-vpn/

    Then

    http://www.themwc.com/#!/watch-live

  232. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:09 pm

The positive is the offense has looked better the problem is they cant turn it into points.

The positive for defense is we are getting pressure the problem the communication in the secondary the te chewed us up on 2 drives. The momentum is clearly all nevada right now

Injuries are piling up Julian gener hurt, siasau hurt, iosefa hurt, graham hurt, yap hurt

  233. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:10 pm

@jonj to be honest Hawaii still has a chance they need to make adjustments in the secondary we are getting pressure d line wise, our offense has moved the ball ST juste looks good. Blown coverages are killing hawaii but big ups for nevada taking advantage of it. Graham has looked good but the problem we are not finishing drives.

  241. gobows September 21, 2013 3:17 pm

    money

  242. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 3:17 pm

    Nice!

  243. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 3:17 pm

  244. MattO September 21, 2013 3:17 pm

    Beautiful pass

  245. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 3:18 pm

    Nice pass and TD Schroeder!!!

  246. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:18 pm

    TD HAWAII

  247. RedZone September 21, 2013 3:18 pm

    Way to go Sean.

  248. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:18 pm

    high-5 to the TD!

    whoohoohoo!!

  249. MattO September 21, 2013 3:18 pm

    what the heck was that?

  250. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:19 pm

    9 : 19

    by shroeder to gant

  251. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:19 pm

Hawaii also gets the ball in the 2nd half woohooo

  252. Isaac September 21, 2013 3:19 pm

FINALLY got the stream up. Thank you madeinhawaii for the VPN tip!!

  253. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 3:19 pm

I knew it. I knew Shroeder should have been the starting quarterback over Higgins and Graham from day 1.

  254. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:19 pm

Just when you make a good play… UH makes another mistake.

TD pass followed by a bad snap and failed PAT.

    St Juste is electric…

  255. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:19 pm

YES! Stopped by his own man

    do that again!

    haha

  256. joto23 September 21, 2013 3:20 pm

I can just see the excuses you homers are going to blog regarding UH’s inevidable loss. Injuries, unable to convert on third down, penalties, BLAH BLAH BLAH. Love to see how Former UH Athlete breaks this loss down. Look forward to next year homers!!!

  257. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:20 pm

    9-17 nevada

  258. Isaac September 21, 2013 3:21 pm

    TD WARRIOS!

All good, we’ll start off w/the ball in the 2H, drive down the field, make a TD then 2pt and it’s TIED baby!

  259. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:21 pm

    Thank you MIH for Issac!

I am relieved to hear of this success!

How can you not watch the game???

    😛

  260. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:22 pm

@joto23 hey you gotta always look for the positives but i do agree a loss is a loss no excuse for that. But stating facts such as the injuries is ok but that is no excuse obviously because nevada is down to the 3rd string qb and 3rd string rb.

  261. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:22 pm

Perhaps it’s good for the qb to get to see how things are going on the field

Taking a break to watch may be a good thing

  262. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:24 pm

82 yards rushing for st juste

Hawaii defense is playing well but Nevada is converting BIG ON 3RD DOWN and thats the difference.

  263. PolyMom September 21, 2013 3:25 pm

I’m calling my Kabalistic Rabbi to change things. We got something going on. I mean 3rd sting QB for Nevada. Did you see his numbers?

Still no live stream. Box score from ESPN.

  264. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:26 pm

If Schroeder keeps it up… he might re-take the starting job. Tough half for UH in terms of injuries. Bunch of guys got hurt.

    Halftime 17-9 Nevada leads

Big stat of the half… Nevada is 8 for 11 on 3rd down. UH must make some stops on 3rd down to make the comeback.

Nevada is very beatable. Nevada has majority of their yards on 2 plays. Overall stats are pretty even. Hawaii has more 1st downs, more time of possession, and have 5 TFL.

If UH can shore up on 3rd down defense, they can win this game.

St Juste is awesome, just keep giving him the ball.

  265. jonj September 21, 2013 3:26 pm

@warrior dave no one likes that a player gets injured. but Chow like last year is playing the wrong QB and i think it showed on the drive schoeder made

  266. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:27 pm

@joto23 just also wanted to say i am bias when it comes to UH football because i bleed green but i do agree a loss is a loss no matter how you spin it man. 🙂

    Graham 11/17 90 yards

    Schroder 3/3 43 yards td

st juste 9 carries 85 yards

  267. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:29 pm

Yeah majority of Nevada yards are from that one catch for 68 yards i believe and another for 50

  268. gobows September 21, 2013 3:29 pm

wahine over wichita st in set 1 25-20.

  269. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 3:30 pm

Polymom, did you try the link…

    http://www.themwc.com/#!/watch-live

You have to click the UH game. It was jumping back and forth between Volleyball but now it seems to be working ok… You might get a black screen but that’s just cuz its in commercial…

  270. 99club September 21, 2013 3:31 pm

That was as classic as the Heidi game was. Cut to women’s volleyball in the middle of the football game on the MWC stream. Play the carnival music.

  271. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:31 pm

I really like schroder and graham i want them to succeed but if schroder leads us to another td drive in the 2nd half i seriously think chow needs to re open the qb competition because competition makes everyone better.

  272. markazulu September 21, 2013 3:35 pm

over 200 yards in the first half 😀

  273. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:41 pm

Stewart has 125 of his 187 passing yards on just two completions… Rolo is calling plays to make it easy for him. UH just needs to stay disciplined on defense.

All of Nevada’s big plays were off of UH mistakes. So that’s fixable. It’s not like they have superior players making things happen.

  274. joto23 September 21, 2013 3:41 pm

Does anyone think that UH should have declined that last penalty and made it 4th down? Why give a team that scoring at will – or at least converting 3rd downs at will – another chance at a potential 1st down or score?

  275. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:43 pm

UH doing a great job stopping Chris Solomon… he’s only got 24 yards on 13 att.

Graham is out for game. Now in street clothes.

  276. MattO September 21, 2013 3:43 pm

    #278 – totally agree.

  277. MattO September 21, 2013 3:44 pm

    oh good lord

  278. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:44 pm

    That’s it!

No more good luck for Nevada!

    grrrrr

  279. joto23 September 21, 2013 3:45 pm

    Schoder in. Wolfpack smells blood….

  280. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:45 pm

well… I take back my comment about Sean Schroeder possibly re-taking the starting job… He just gave Nevada a gift interception.. UH in trouble now.

  281. MattO September 21, 2013 3:46 pm

    CHIIHOO!! Great job, D!

  282. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:47 pm

UH defense needs to step up and make a play and hold Nevada to 3 pts.

  283. AllG September 21, 2013 3:47 pm

Classic Schroder… Please put in Higgins, don’t want to go through another season of watching SS throw picks and get sacked

  284. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:48 pm

    block that kick!

  285. MattO September 21, 2013 3:48 pm

    Secondary… sigh.

  286. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:48 pm

Nevada gets away with offensive pass interference and its a touchdown.

  287. MattO September 21, 2013 3:48 pm

This could get out of hand quickly…

  288. joto23 September 21, 2013 3:48 pm

As the great George Takei would say OH MY…….touchdown Nevada

  289. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:49 pm

    9 : 24

  290. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 3:49 pm

    Time to answer on offense…..

  291. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:49 pm

268… Higgins aint the answer… sorry. Higgin’s arm strength makes Schroeder’s arm look like Kaepernick’s

  292. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:51 pm

Another 3rd down failure by the defense. Nevada now 9 of 12 on 3rd down. Although the last one was offensive pass interference that wasn’t called.

  293. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 3:52 pm

I knew that Shroeder wasn’t any good. Our only hope is for him to get injured so Chow can start Higgins.

  294. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:53 pm

Jeez another illegal formation? That means one of the WRs is lining up wrong. Can’t afford these little mistakes.

  295. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:55 pm

Well… UH is doing a good job taking away Nevada’s run game and putting the onus on Stewart… only problem is that UH isn’t covering anybody and Stewart has easy throws to open targets. Even a freshman making his first start can hit open receivers.

  296. Eastcoastnonni September 21, 2013 3:56 pm

Shame on you, Indolent Moron. Wishing injury to a young man who literally and figurally broke his back for this team.

  297. Punaluu September 21, 2013 3:56 pm

#298. Please don’t say things like that. I wouldn’t wish injuries on anyone.

  298. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 3:57 pm

Pocket collapses on Schroeder and is forced to scramble forward… punt. Poor pass blocking on that last play.

  299. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:58 pm

    3rd quarter 9:22 left

  300. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 3:59 pm

    298 –

    Wish him to get it

    geesh

  301. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:00 pm

What’s so frustrating in this game is that Nevada has really only made 3 big plays. Other than that, Nevada hasn’t had much to offer.

  302. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:01 pm

    Maybe a fumble??

  303. MattO September 21, 2013 4:01 pm

    FUMBLE!

  304. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:01 pm

    way to go #91!

  305. MattO September 21, 2013 4:01 pm

Good lesson – always grab the ball.

  306. 99club September 21, 2013 4:01 pm

    awright! Hawaii ball.

  307. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:01 pm

    we got good luck! hehe

  308. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:01 pm

Stewart finally makes a mistake!!! UH FOOTBALL!!!

  309. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:02 pm

    keep up the good luck!

  310. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:03 pm

Can we just say it already? Chow’s worst decision — and he’s made a lot of them — was not keeping Rolovich. ALL ABOARD! I’m starting up the Rolovich bandwagon — fire Chow, hire Rolovich!!

  311. MattO September 21, 2013 4:03 pm

    Oh SS… sigh.

  312. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:03 pm

please give our QB more T-I-M-E!

  313. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:04 pm

Moses Samia credited for fumble recovery…

Another dropped pass.. Gant can’t haul it in. Schroeders lack of arm strength a factor on that one into the wind.

    FG attempt coming…

  314. joto23 September 21, 2013 4:04 pm

Memo to Ben Jay…Call Colorado ASAP….No bowl game this year…Maybe no wins either…Need money now!

  315. gobows September 21, 2013 4:05 pm

    Let ikaika take some snaps

  316. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:05 pm

    315

    Sorry – NOPE

  317. AllG September 21, 2013 4:06 pm

318… I thought you just said Schroder had a arm? I know Higgins doesn’t have a arm but his arm ain’t any weaker then that noodle Schroder calls an arm

  318. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:07 pm

    GIMME A W

    !!!

  319. AllG September 21, 2013 4:07 pm

    315… I’m with you!

  320. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:08 pm

    [ Yes, I realize I may have to cheer by myself ; ) ]

    lol

  321. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:08 pm

    W!!!

  322. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 4:09 pm

    Lets Go Bows. Right Now!

  323. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:09 pm

    324

    Oh brother

  324. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:09 pm

321.. I’ll back you on that one.

322.. I said Higgins arm makes Schroeder’s arm look strong. Sean has a weak arm. That’s wy he’s not starting. He just can’t get the ball downfield with any zip.

UH injuries piling up.. This game is getting costly.

  325. Jack Flash September 21, 2013 4:10 pm

So…. This sucks. Players don’t look like they want to play for each other. Coaching?

  326. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:10 pm

    GIMME AN A

    !!!

  327. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:10 pm

321: Oh, if only you knew the things I know…heard the things I’ve heard…seen the things I’ve seen. Chow can’t get steel-toed fast or hard enough.

  328. AllG September 21, 2013 4:11 pm

My guess on this drive is another Schroder turnover

  329. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:11 pm

    Hey, a 3rd down stop!

  330. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:11 pm

    A

  331. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:11 pm

    Going FORWARD! yay!

  332. joto23 September 21, 2013 4:13 pm

I can see by reading this blog that injuries will be the theme as to why UH has a losing season. If only (fill in the blank) was healthy, we would have had a chance….

  333. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:14 pm

Ouch… Schroeder got crushed… OLine having another rough night. Better in the run game though, there have been holes for the RBs

  334. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:14 pm

    329

    Thank you 🙂

    332

Someone had to make a decision

  335. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:15 pm

    GIMME TWO Rs!!!

  336. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 4:15 pm

Anyone else think Nevada’s D is getting gassed?

  337. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:15 pm

    R

    R

    !!!

  338. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:15 pm

337: Yeah, that’s weak sauce. But try this one instead: if only Chow hadn’t been hired, or if he had retained Rolovich as O-Coordinator, Hawaii might have a decent offense. Instead, they’re just offensive.

  339. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 4:16 pm

    Spoke too soon…

  340. AllG September 21, 2013 4:16 pm

Hate to say but I told you so

  341. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:16 pm

    GIMME AN I

    !!!

  342. MattO September 21, 2013 4:16 pm

SS holding the ball too long again.

  343. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:17 pm

Uh oh… the sour sally’s are coming out now…

Schroder gets hit as he throws and ball just floated. Milovale can’t block anybody right now.

  344. AllG September 21, 2013 4:17 pm

    He’s a lemon…Give Higgins a chance

  345. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:17 pm

[sigh] Sucks being right all the time.

  346. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:18 pm

    343

There’s a way to say that without getting ppl all upset and pissed off .. at you

    Think about it

    Complain in a tactful way

    and it’ll get you farther

    geesh

  347. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:18 pm

    Gimme an R! Gimme an O! Gimme an L! Gimme an O! What’s that spell?! Rolo-VICH! Rolo-VICH!

  348. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:19 pm

    348

Our fans do not know how to be good losers

    Someone has to lose, right?

  349. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:20 pm

    352

    Dear Shamen,

    You must be Rolovich

    Is all I can say

    hahaha

  350. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:20 pm

Let me put it this way: if Rolovich can make an unproven rookie QB look like the next Heisman winner against UH’s respectable defense…well, draw your own conclusions.

  351. MattO September 21, 2013 4:21 pm

Former, not being a “sour sally” – he held the ball too long. Yes, his blocking should have been better, but he should have felt the rush and released BEFORE he let go of the floater. This happened countless times last season. His internal clock is just a little too slow for whatever reason.

  352. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:21 pm

    GIMMIE AN O

    !!!

  353. Inyoface September 21, 2013 4:21 pm

    Damn AllG, you were right

  354. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:21 pm

    355

Question: Do you have a job?

  355. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:22 pm

    Shamen, AIIG and Inoyoface

You are all the same person

    haha

  356. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:22 pm

Actually, I’m not even sure Rolovich would want the job at this point, even if Jay were to offer it to him. One thing is certain: Chow was not the right choice. If anyone has a reasonable argument to the contrary, I’d really like to hear it. I mean, I can’t be the only one almost feeling nostalgic about Mack…can I?

  357. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:23 pm

Cuz you type all the same kine stuff in the same kine way

  358. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 4:23 pm

No Gie Up! Who Gone Win? Us. Who Gone Lose? Dem!

  359. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:23 pm

    361

    Answer my question in 359

  360. MattO September 21, 2013 4:24 pm

That kid’s hair is really blonde.

  361. AllG September 21, 2013 4:24 pm

What do know the lemon holds the ball all day and takes a sack…throw it away!!

  362. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:24 pm

    nice throw! nice catch!

    GIMME A R!!!

  363. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 4:24 pm

Mich better throwing on the run than TG.

  364. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:25 pm

356: agree with your diagnosis of Schroeder. But Chow, the ostensible “QB guru,” has not made the requisite adjustment, despite having over a year to work with him.

  365. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:25 pm

    366

    Uh, WTH you said!?! 😛

  366. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:26 pm

    R

    !!!

  367. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:26 pm

Hey Sherman… Stewart knew he was going to start the whole week. He got all the reps in practice and Rolo formed a gameplan around him all week. Not even close to the same as losing a QB mid-game. SS doesn’t take many reps in practice as he’s not the starter.

Did you not watch Stewart last week last week vs the FSU scrubs, he was terrible.

  368. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:26 pm

    LETGODATBALL!!!!!!!!

  369. MattO September 21, 2013 4:26 pm

You still gonna tell me he’s not holding the ball too long?

  370. joto23 September 21, 2013 4:27 pm

Schroeder should be starter for remainder of the season. OLine is a siv when it comes to pass protection and can’t run block either. At least Schroeder is used to taking vicious hits

  371. AllG September 21, 2013 4:27 pm

You people are as blind as Chow if u think Schroder is a good QB

  372. Inyoface September 21, 2013 4:28 pm

We’re not the same uhfan, I was just saying he was right

  373. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:28 pm

    GIMME AN S!!!

  374. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:28 pm

    Sssss!!!

  375. MattO September 21, 2013 4:29 pm

Might as well throw Higgins in. Nothing to lose. Give the kid real game reps. Normally, I’d be worried about shaking the starting QB’s confidence, but since SS is the back-up…

  376. gobows September 21, 2013 4:29 pm

    S

  377. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:29 pm

    377

    you sure?

    i no believe

    sorry

  378. slenzi September 21, 2013 4:29 pm

Boola, I’m not seeing it in Mary Kawena Pukui’s and Samuel Hoyt Elbert’s Hawaiian dictionary gives six meanings and 83 English translation equivalents.

1.nvs. Goodness, uprightness, morality, moral qualities, correct or proper procedure, excellence, well-being, prosperity, welfare, benefit, behalf, equity, sake, true condition or nature, duty; moral, fitting, proper, righteous, right, upright, just, virtuous, fair, beneficial, successful, in perfect order, accurate, correct, eased, relieved; should, ought, must, necessary.

  379. Shamen September 21, 2013 4:29 pm

372: thanks for proving my point. Rolovich took a rookie that looked terrible and turned him into a 3-TD QB in JUST ONE WEEK. What has Chow done with Schroeder (or Graham) in over a year?

  380. Inyoface September 21, 2013 4:30 pm

    Good, don’t.

  381. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:30 pm

    WOT DOES THAT SPELL?!?

  382. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:30 pm

    385

    fine, I won’t 😉

  383. AllG September 21, 2013 4:31 pm

Hey 372…Schroder had all of last year to get reps and showed no I improvement…This is the true freshman first game ever starting. Stop making excuses for Schroder

  384. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:31 pm

    385

    and I not

  385. gobows September 21, 2013 4:32 pm

    higgins

  386. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:32 pm

    –>> !!! WARRIORS !!! <<–

  387. RedZone September 21, 2013 4:32 pm

    Let’s go Higgins.

  388. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:33 pm

    GO JEREMY HIGGINS!!!

  389. MattO September 21, 2013 4:33 pm

#384 – It’s tough to presume to know the challenges the coaching staff faced. Maybe they’ve tried and the lessons just haven’t taken.

    Hey, there’s Higgins!

  390. gobows September 21, 2013 4:33 pm

freakin john veneri just said higgins has a strong arm. strong for a 7 yr old. did john have too many concussions?

  391. MattO September 21, 2013 4:33 pm

Aaaand that was a bad decision throw lol

  392. RainboWarrior September 21, 2013 4:33 pm

One great thing about Chow is his homegrown recruiting and recruiting in general. Jus giv em one more year or two and we’ll get this thing back on track.

  393. gobows September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

    hey, at least it wasn’t a pick6

  394. AllG September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

So much for Higgins bring in Woolsey lol

  395. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

Higgins getting his shot… Backup QBs are the most popular by fans.

Throws a hideous ball on his 1st attempt almost intercepted.

  396. RedZone September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

    Next.

  397. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

    stop dat dang it

  398. gobows September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

lets see ikaika take some reps.

  399. MattO September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

    Holy cow. Really?

  400. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

    9 : 30

    9 : 31

    4th Qtr 10:25 left

  401. Manoa #1 September 21, 2013 4:34 pm

i told you guys chows offense sucks…Welcome to the 3 and punt system..to much guys talking crap this week about beating the wolfpack. rolo and Lelie got chows ass in check..lol. shame on da Warriors cannot beat a team with a 3rd string qb and a 3rd string rb. lose money….next week aloha tadium is gonna be empty.

  402. AllG September 21, 2013 4:35 pm

Man we need to recruit some QBs

  403. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:35 pm

    401

    wait – not yet

  404. gobows September 21, 2013 4:35 pm

    wahine sweep the shockers

  405. MattO September 21, 2013 4:35 pm

    Former, good timing.

  406. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 4:35 pm

Oh well……I need another beer. Out.

  407. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:36 pm

Offenses don’t work if the OLine is no good. Doesn’t matter how good your talent is at QB/WR/RB

  408. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:36 pm

    395

    oh brother

  409. Marleysdad September 21, 2013 4:36 pm

I thought someone said Higgins was better than Mariota? We’re screwed now.

  410. joto23 September 21, 2013 4:36 pm

I would have more respect for the regular bloggers of this site if they just acquiesce to the fact that UH is just a really bad football team. STOP over analyzing each play, each position, the coaches call etc…

  411. kapakahi September 21, 2013 4:37 pm

Might as well give Woosley a look.

At least he can run and has the strongest arm.

  412. MattO September 21, 2013 4:37 pm

That guy looks like the Ultimate Warrior

  413. Inyoface September 21, 2013 4:37 pm

    Embarrassing

  414. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:37 pm

    406

    it’s a stadium, dagnammit

  415. kapakahi September 21, 2013 4:37 pm

Gotta feel for the defensive players!

  416. MattO September 21, 2013 4:38 pm

Joto – but then what would we have to talk about 😛

  417. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:38 pm

    420

    ditto your sentiment 🙁

    they haven’t given up

  418. RedZone September 21, 2013 4:38 pm

It’s not the quarterbacks. We need someone to develop them. That is why Ault said he hired Rolo.

  419. kapakahi September 21, 2013 4:39 pm

No matter how the defense plays……just can’t win scoring 1 TD a game.

  420. MattO September 21, 2013 4:39 pm

    Quicker release, slower ball. Weird.

  421. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:39 pm

yay! pushed two yards further by one nevada player!

    haha

  422. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 4:39 pm

wow… This is a really strange game… We have more total yards, first downs, time of possession… And we’re down by 22…

  423. MattO September 21, 2013 4:41 pm

#423 – very happy for Rolo – he found a home and a good job. I may not have been a fan of Ault’s but glad Rolo landed with a good program and can show his stuff.

  424. gobows September 21, 2013 4:41 pm

    what?

  425. gobows September 21, 2013 4:41 pm

    hold

  426. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:41 pm

    happiness

    but then.. a flag

    ugh

  427. kapakahi September 21, 2013 4:42 pm

The irony here is that……QB Tyler Stewart took an official recruiting trip to UH…..after de-committing from San Jose State……but never got offered by this coaching staff……so instead committed to Nevada.

  428. kifi September 21, 2013 4:42 pm

    What’s the score?

  429. MattO September 21, 2013 4:43 pm

    #432 – whoops

  430. gobows September 21, 2013 4:43 pm

    what happened to st juste?

  431. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:44 pm

Coach Chow is doing the best with what he has and doesn’t have

If someone doesn’t have sufficient resources, then the someone has to do everything else that isn’t done

If you work for a living then you know about lack of resources can surely slow you down

  432. Rodney September 21, 2013 4:44 pm

    Bobby Curran is so bad!

    Does not give audience

    much of a picture

  433. AllG September 21, 2013 4:44 pm

Good drive for Higgins…too bad Oline doesn’t have his back

  434. joto23 September 21, 2013 4:45 pm

Can’t wait to read the comments after this loss and into next week. Also looking forward to Robert Kekaula’s chat with Coach Chow. Here is a synopsis of what the show:

Kekaula (in his best Don Ho voice): Coach waht happened?

Chow: No excuses, except (blah, blah, injuries, blah, blah Taylor Graham is our starter, Blah, Blah, pro set offense with no OLine, our defense has to play better) but no excuses, our boys tried hard, gave a great effort, we just need to execute better and win…

  435. MattO September 21, 2013 4:45 pm

    Faked out the cameraman!

  436. Inyoface September 21, 2013 4:45 pm

Higgins looks the best so far but #77 needs to block.

  437. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:45 pm

    433

    Huh? Still 9 : 31

  438. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:45 pm

OLine is just falling apart in the 2nd half. Might be the worst Oline in the nation 2nd year in a row… Naeole has his work cut out for OL recruiting.

  439. kifi September 21, 2013 4:45 pm

    ??? Anyone?

  440. 3-Prong September 21, 2013 4:46 pm

Milovale needs to move his feet instead of reaching.

  441. kifi September 21, 2013 4:47 pm

Oh 31 to 9. Thanks! How much time left?

  442. oneseason September 21, 2013 4:47 pm

If you can’t say something nice about someone, say something bad about somebody else.

  443. MattO September 21, 2013 4:48 pm

Love that the D is still playing tough. Feel for them.

  444. kifi September 21, 2013 4:48 pm

    Did Graham get hurt?

  445. slenzi September 21, 2013 4:48 pm

If it weren’t for bad luck, we’d have no luck at all. Still only game three. Get healthy, learn from mistakes, improve, and win. We will be lucky to get dominant O-line chemistry by mid-season, so yes it will take a little (painfully) longer.

  446. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:48 pm

441… Milovale is having the worst day of any OLmen this year. He’s been really bad today. He’s the guy who got called for holding to negate the TD pass.

  447. Moocher September 21, 2013 4:48 pm

    didnt see the game…..

    what happened to graham?

    hows the offense?

    what happened to shroeder?

  448. kapakahi September 21, 2013 4:49 pm

Only good thing is…..that there will be no traffic and plenty parking for next Saturday’s Fresno State game.

  449. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:49 pm

    415

hah? Football is all about analysis and evaluation

Are you sure you that football is your thing?

  450. MattO September 21, 2013 4:49 pm

kifi -yeah, he ran, got katooshed right on his left shoulder and came out w/ his arm hanging low. Hope he’s okay.

  451. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:49 pm

449…yes. Out in 1st half. In street clothes after halftime.

  452. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:49 pm

    427

    🙁

  454. kapakahi September 21, 2013 4:51 pm

    #443,

Down year among local OL prospects this year.

  455. kifi September 21, 2013 4:51 pm

    Thanks 455 & 456.

  456. AllG September 21, 2013 4:51 pm

Lets see what Woolsey got! Lets go Ikaika!

  457. Marleysdad September 21, 2013 4:51 pm

Painful to watch. Funny how everyone said our D is so good. Sure have not shown it today. Stop making excuses for them. Offense is pitiful, D was over hyped. Special teams ain’t so special. We are just a bad team w/bad game time coaching across the board.

Well looks like Woosley’s turn now.

  458. MattO September 21, 2013 4:51 pm

#451 – totally agree. He’s really changed the texture of the game. Too bad 🙁

  459. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:51 pm

UH not a bad team… just a bad Oline. Talent is better at all position groups other than OLine.

UH is actually leading in most stat columns tonight. Obviously the two biggest ones, score & turnovers, are the two that is costing UH.

  460. Moocher September 21, 2013 4:52 pm

hmmm i really thought the bows would have a better showing. in a nutshell, why so bad today?

  461. AllG September 21, 2013 4:52 pm

With our Oline issue he might be our best option at QB being that he can scramble and has a arm

  462. MattO September 21, 2013 4:53 pm

#462 – Sure, they got burned on a few good plays, but it’s tough to defend when you turn the ball over so many times. That’s on the O not the D. Ask Eli and the Giants about that.

  463. RedZone September 21, 2013 4:55 pm

    Go Woolsey!!!!

  464. AllG September 21, 2013 4:55 pm

Yeah nice deep ball by Woolsey

  465. RedZone September 21, 2013 4:55 pm

    Oh well.

  466. MattO September 21, 2013 4:55 pm

WOW! What a terrific throw. That mighta been the nicest pass of the night.

  467. MattO September 21, 2013 4:56 pm

    Followed by a pick. Lol.

  468. Moocher September 21, 2013 4:56 pm

hmmmm is it possible grahams injury will mean another QB next week so chow is giving all of them game reps?

  469. Old School Dave September 21, 2013 4:56 pm

Gotta give credit where it’s due and props to Nick Rolovich. He called a good game working with his 3rd team QB.

Chow is clearing his bench with all QBs. Woosley just threw a pick.

Hope the injuries are not serious. Defense played hard, but offense couldn’t capitalize.

  470. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 4:56 pm

    453

If you’re a UH fan, you should go to the games to cheer on the team good or bad

resolve to be a good fan

by learning how to be a good fan even in bad times

Remember: someone has to win and someone has to lose 😉

If ppl want to choose not to go to games

    that’s fine

BUT consequence of our actions as fans is we may not have a team to cheer for should that ever happen

    why:

because the team needs revenues in order for the football/athletic program to run

if you choose not to attend, there will be zero revenues

    think about it:

Would you rather not have a team to cheer for at all?

  471. kapakahi September 21, 2013 4:57 pm

Hopefully Graham, Iosefa, Moleni, Yap, Tepa, and Gener can recover quickly.

  472. AllG September 21, 2013 4:57 pm

Haha…oh well…he has nice zip on his passes

  473. MattO September 21, 2013 4:57 pm

    #475 – well said UHFan

  474. Bugaz September 21, 2013 4:58 pm

Bet Aaron Price is laughing to the bank.

  475. Konoman1 September 21, 2013 4:58 pm

Tough one today.. Gotta turn this thing around .. Turnovers killed us…

  476. RedZone September 21, 2013 4:59 pm

    Cmon Ikaika.

  477. MattO September 21, 2013 4:59 pm

I love that that guy’s name is Brock.

  478. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 4:59 pm

Well… At least Woosley showed that he has a live arm.

  479. kapakahi September 21, 2013 5:00 pm

    #475,

Have attended all home games for past 20+ years…..including Von Appen’s winless season.

    Just saying…..that others won’t.

  480. tommui September 21, 2013 5:00 pm

We did beat Wichita State, if that is any consolation.

  481. gobows September 21, 2013 5:01 pm

    453

yeah, and i should have half a row of empty seats next to me, so we can spread out.

  482. G-money September 21, 2013 5:02 pm

Higgins looks like he’s still in HS. Sorry but there’s nothing IT or his fellow Higgins backers can say now. He got his chance, like he did last year, and what?????????????????????? He owes us 7pts! So shut it with Higgins. He is not the answer..………… not that any of our guys are, really.

  483. joto23 September 21, 2013 5:02 pm

According to this blog, the consensus was that with the opposing starting quarterback out, UH had a very ggod chance to win. Unfortunately, they are sining he same tune. OLine can’t block. Defense regressed. Is there any realistic – and I mean REALISTIC – win on UH’s remaining schedule???

  484. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:02 pm

    478

Thanks – I was and am very serious

our community really needs to come together in support of our team and coaches and staff

  485. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:03 pm

I think Graham is clearly #1 if he can go. I think Woolsey has that “it” factor… I hope he is #2 QB next week…

  486. MattO September 21, 2013 5:03 pm

Has the arm. Needs the decision-making. He’s young, he’ll learn. Hopefully.

  487. gobows September 21, 2013 5:03 pm

it was a sweep. and their 4th tournament title.

  488. AllG September 21, 2013 5:04 pm

Lets hope Graham is ok cause our QB depth is pretty damn bad

  489. G-money September 21, 2013 5:04 pm

    What happened to St Juste?

  490. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 5:04 pm

Talk about some nasty “fans” coming out of the woodwork tonight.

Insult on injury… Lakalaka earns his 2nd chop block penalty.

Any updates on St Juste? He hasn’t played at all in 2nd half.

wow… 7 turnovers tonight. Ikaika, welcome to D1 football. Game is moving a little fast for him, especially with zero reps in practice as the #4.

  491. Bugaz September 21, 2013 5:05 pm

Hopefully Naeole can recruit better than the past several seasons.

  492. RedZone September 21, 2013 5:05 pm

I agree we need Graham back.

  493. kapakahi September 21, 2013 5:05 pm

    #490,

Agree that might as well make Woosley the #2…….so that he’ll be ready…..when his time comes.

  494. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:06 pm

    484

well I am relieved to hear that

than you as a dedicated fan have it built in why you are a dedicated fan and should encourage others around you to be a good fan just like yourself if you care about the future of our Warrior Team

  495. boolakanka September 21, 2013 5:06 pm

383–and the very next sentence, which I hope you did not, via conscription, omit..reads:

The word has strong cultural and spiritual connotations of “a state of harmony or balance”, and is the aim of the Ho’oponopono practice. Literally, Ho’oponopono mean restoring balance…end of story.

  496. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 5:06 pm

Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong about my prediction.

Hard to see how (not) far we have gotten the past few weeks. Best of luck to the team and coaches as they move forward, I think they will need it.

    Go Bows

  497. MattO September 21, 2013 5:06 pm

#489 – I agree 100%. I think it’s possible to be both honest about our weaknesses, but supportive as well. Do I think our offense needs work? Okay, A LOOOOT of work? Yes. But if I were at home, you bet your sweet okole, I’d be at the game, even if we got blown out every week. You don’t quit on your team if you want them to get better. You show up, you support, you back ‘um. And you hope it gets better.

  498. AllG September 21, 2013 5:06 pm

Higgins I think showed the best of the backups…Woolsey needs more practice reps…Schroder should retire

  499. kapakahi September 21, 2013 5:06 pm

    #498,

At least for Class of 2014, gonna have to recruit from the mainland and/or JC ranks…..cuz OG Kapoi (Kapolei) is probably the only legit local OL prospect.

  500. Inyoface September 21, 2013 5:07 pm

When will we get a 2 td game. Maybe next weekend boys.

  501. MattO September 21, 2013 5:08 pm

#490/#495 – totally agree. He looks like he has ‘it’ – just gotta get adjusted to game speed, which you hope he can do.

  502. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:09 pm

    488

uh…isn’t that why we bother to play against other teams?

why teams play against each other?

    to go beyond theoretical “wins”?

and see fo real, the game on the field?

    lol

we don’t all have crystal balls

  503. Konoman1 September 21, 2013 5:09 pm

we’ll be there no matter what!

  504. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:09 pm

    First downs

    UH 20 – UNR 10

    Total yards

    UH 376 – UNR 340

    Time of Possession

    UH 32:29 UNR 27:19

Unreal that we lost by 22…

  505. manoa#1 September 21, 2013 5:10 pm

FIRE CHOW. FIRE CHOW .FIRE CHOW HE GOTTA GO.!!!

  506. Konoman1 September 21, 2013 5:12 pm

John.. You will get your bad karma.. Our boys are not losers… But you are actually the biggest Loser buddy!!!

  508. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:12 pm

    6 Turnovers…

And two more on 4th down missed conversions…

  509. gobows September 21, 2013 5:14 pm

    what, chow is on fire?

  510. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:14 pm

    502

I am even happier to hear that from you

You just made me very happy, as happy as one can be on this game day 🙂

    thank you 🙂

  511. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:15 pm

    511

    OMG, are you serious??

gimme a break with your ranting

  512. MattO September 21, 2013 5:15 pm

    #516 – LOL

#517 – does trolling give you that much pleasure? Um, okay. That’s cute.

  513. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:16 pm

    517

    You suck

  514. jonj September 21, 2013 5:16 pm

Im about to start fighting all you CHOW backers!! I called it from the start CHOW sucks!

Yes this was once upon a time a very great blog to read… even under the mack years it was good! but BLAME Chow!!! 3 games almost same score!! this offense sucks ass! defense still did great! Rolo made a 3rd string QB and 3 string RB beat us!

  515. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 5:16 pm

A lot of people have been saying that we don’t have the talent to win games and that Norm Chow needs more time. I don’t know. I’m thinking that’s it not the talent in our player personnel that’s lacking, I mean look how good our Defense and Special teams have become in such a short time. I think rather than player personnel, we might be lacking talent in our Offensive coaching staff.

  516. Shamen September 21, 2013 5:17 pm

397: I doubt it. Talent doesn’t do much good if you don’t have the cutting-edge coaching moxie to match. Besides, who in heck is gonna wanna go to UH after the embarrassing train-wreck the last year and a half has been?

    406: Bingo, alas.

475: I think the answer is yes. Football in Hawaii is a money-suck, not a revenue-generator. Time for sports like soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, and tennis (yes, TENNIS) to be the flagship sports for Hawaii. No point in flying 70 players and staff and all their gear to the mainland to get humiliated six times a year.

Either that, or hire an innovative and competent coach like Rolovich. Gimme an R! Gimme an O!…

    OH, and you stink, too

  518. gobows September 21, 2013 5:17 pm

at least pick6 didn’t show up this week, but i have a feeling he’ll be making an appearance against the dogs.

  519. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 5:17 pm

Sorry if I offended anyone with that comment above… just had to let out some steam…

The Good News, however, is that there will be a lot less traffic and plenty of parking for the Fresno game.

  520. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:18 pm

  524. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:19 pm

    527

Yeah but we have to be careful how we rant in public

We still want players to play and coaches to coach and staff to do and not give up

  525. jonj September 21, 2013 5:19 pm

What besides 2 maybe 3 players starting on defense are all of MACKS recruits! Get real people CHOW is the problem and IF you people only knew or would listen about the things being said about him.

How do you leave you most experienced WR home????

  526. kapakahi September 21, 2013 5:19 pm

For the 3rd straight game, JMHO that Coach being out-coached after half-time of close games…..’cuz not making the necessary offense adjustment to counter the defensive adjustments made by other teams at half-time.

Probably ‘cuz Coach never had to do it from the field-level before…..whereas way earlier to see from the booth……whereas the other team’s DC is probably upstairs in the booth.

  527. MattO September 21, 2013 5:20 pm

  529. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:21 pm

    @522, Jonj

We out gained them… How is Rolo’s offense so much better? We just made boneheaded/freakish plays…

Eh is Howard D reading the blog… He just quoted my stats…

  530. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:22 pm

    Total yards

    UH 376 – UNR 340

    Time of Possession

    UH 32:29 UNR 27:19

Unreal that we lost by 22…

if it wasn’t for shooting themselves in the feet with turnovers, they could have had a chance to win. offensive production was there for awhile. im sure next month they’ll be able to score 2 td’s.

  533. Marleysdad September 21, 2013 5:24 pm

#467 it is not all on the O. The defense dd not live up to its billing. End of story.

#475 win or lose, I will be at every home game, ticket & parking pass in hand till the clock reads 0:00 supporting the warriors. Emotions run high on game day, especially when we all thought we had a chance in this one.

I think we all just drink too much kool-aid.

That guy that wears #54 needs to switch number. Disgrace to the Noga’s.

  534. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:24 pm

Everyone is a coach when the team doesn’t do well, huh?

  537. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:27 pm

Nope, cuz I know how to be a good fan even in tough times

You? You’re one cry baby boo hoo hoo

I’m sad too but I’m not ranting – ranting does nothing productive

  538. Whats up September 21, 2013 5:27 pm

Taylor Graham getting injured hurt Hawaii offense, the only big arm QB on the roster is Woolsey. SS and Higgins are effective QB that play with the hearts of a lion the lack of game reps is killing them. Miovale and Lakalaka need to clean up the penalties along with the rest of the team. The 6 turnovers and the penalties killed Hawaii momentum every drive. This is expected with Taylor Graham out and Chow playing all 4 different QB’s, so offensive execution was sloppy. Diocemy is a stud at RB, the defense played good enough but the offense left them out to dry too long as usual. But if Taylor Graham is out for the next game, Chow needs to game plan for and start Woolsey. The offense needs a mobile QB to keep the opponents defense honest and playing 11 on 11 instead of the non mobile QB which makes it 10 on 11 in favor of the defense. Woolsey has a huge arm with his mobility to extend plays or pick up yards will help the WR’s and RB’s in the offense move the ball.

  539. UHfan808 September 21, 2013 5:27 pm

    538 WarriorNY

wow! What an honor for you!

  540. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 5:28 pm

493… yup. Pretty funny that the only guy without a turnover was Graham.

That’s why I’ve been behind Graham ever since he transferred to UH. Obviously, Mack/Rolo’s QB recruits were junk as to leftover transfers beat them in one fall camp last year. Graham is the only QB that can actually throw a deep ball. Schroeder and Higgins take way too long to pull the trigger and both looked way out of sorts without taking many reps in practice.

I like Woosley also, but he’s not ready yet. I see Ikaika as the #2 next year, possibly #1 if he really steps up during the offseason. Although he threw some meaningless picks, I like that he’s not hesitant to pull the trigger. He just needs to go through progressions, but I wouldn’t expect that since he gets no reps during practice.

BTW… Most of this OLine is the remainder of Mack’s recruits. The RnS would absolutely look bad with this Oline.

Now hopefully the boys get healed because a whole bunch of them went down tonight and it’s going to be a tough game next Saturday vs Fresno.

    Checked the final box score…

Total yards: UH 378; Nev 340

First downs: UH 20; Nev 10

Total Plays: UH 81; Nev 64

Time of Pos: UH 32:29; Nev 27:31

Tack. for Loss: UH 10; Nev 8

    Turnovers: UH 7; Nev 1

Points off TO: UH 0; Nev 14

    NOTES:

Nevada finished 9-17 on 3rd down, but was 9 of 12 before slowing down their offense.

UH had 10 penalties – one holding penalty negated a TD.

Tyler Stewart had 202 yards passing (125 came on 2 plays)

Starting RB Chris Solomon held to 35yds on 21 carries

Saint Juste had 82yds on 12 carries (did not play 2nd half due to injury)

  541. AllG September 21, 2013 5:28 pm

538…Rolo offense is so much better because they scored touchdowns…They had short fields a lot of the time because of all our turn overs, but who cares how much yards you have if you can’t score. Rolo made good play calls in the red zone and they got the job done. Our offense is so predictable

  542. MattO September 21, 2013 5:29 pm

#542 – How can you discount 6 turnovers plus 2 4th down turnovers and claim “end of story”? LOL.

  543. RedZone September 21, 2013 5:30 pm

The only thing that bugs me is that we had 2 weeks to prepare for these guys.

  544. jonj September 21, 2013 5:30 pm

We need to get rid of Chow now! All you people are backing him saying another year. We got rid of mack becuzx our offensive and defensive production fell 1 year due to injuries and yet we were still in the middle of offensize production in the country and now his same D is running the show

BTW im always in the stands and the loudest one! im sure most of u hear me

  547. Shamen September 21, 2013 5:32 pm

    523: Bingo!

No one wants to see Hawaii be successful more than I do. NO ONE. But you have to look at the facts. Like, 3-15 under Chow. 3-15!! And those three wins weren’t exactly against quality opponents. Let’s not forget Mack was FIRED for going 6-7 — and most of those losses were at least fun and competitive games. Even the wins under Chow don’t seem fun. When was the last time we had one? Y’know, a fun game?

Supporting the team doesn’t mean blind allegiance to whoever happens to be “in charge” at the time. Sometimes, you have to swallow your pride and admit you made a mistake. Chow *might* have been a decent head coaching choice 10 years ago. But his past two stints prior to coming here were red flags: the game has passed him by. We could have had Rolovich for O-coordinator. Instead, we got Aaron Price, who was then FIRED, and put us out $120,000. That right there should be firing grounds for Chow.

    GO BOWS!

  548. lava September 21, 2013 5:32 pm

We played our weakest opponent to date and lost by our widest margin, as those in the know knew would happen.

For you Chow lovers, keep sipping the Kool-aid. We’re still bowl eligible.

  549. Think2Much September 21, 2013 5:33 pm

Okay, we lost and lost badly. However there are some bright spots, namely the rushing of St. Juste and Lakalaka. D played reasonably well again, had some breakdowns early but the problem lies on offense. Can’t seem to capitalize on opportunities like the fumble recovery after Tepa’s big hit. These could be momentum changing situations but we end up missing a field goal. The D can’t score and you can’t expect them to pitch a shutout every game. You notice the problems are at QB and receivers where we have the youngest, inexperienced (coaching-wise) coaches of any DI program. For the fans, we could go 0-12 but if every game is a slugfest where there is a chance to win at the end where you put the opponents on their heels despite overwhelming odds, then that would be watchable and satisfying. Coaches got to make things happen otherwise Fresno State won’t be pretty. Their O looked amazing sharp vs. Boise.

  550. gobows September 21, 2013 5:33 pm

st juste had 85 yards on 9 carries in the 1st half…according to the stat tracker. somehow he gained 3 rushes and lost 3 yards???

  551. jonj September 21, 2013 5:36 pm

    #557 AMEN!!

  552. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 5:37 pm

This is why we shouldn’t play Colorado. Norm Chow is an embarassment to the state of Hawaii and this football team. In fact, because we may not be 100% sure that we can even win a single game this year, we might as well just forfeit the rest of the season.

  553. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:38 pm

    AIIG,

They got 2 big offensive plays… Other than that, their offense was not good…

  554. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 5:40 pm

  555. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 5:40 pm

  557. oneseason September 21, 2013 5:42 pm

The rest of the season …

Fresno State (41-40 over Boise State)

San Jose State (24-43 loss to Minnesota)

UNLV (31-7 over Western Illinois early in the 4rd)

Colorado State (6-31 loss to Alabama)

Utah State (14-17 loss to USC)

Navy (did not play this week … currently 2 and 0)

San Diego State (30-34 loss to Oregon State)

Wyoming (21-10 over Air Force Academy early in the 2nd)

Army (11-25 loss to Wake Forest)

  559. kapakahi September 21, 2013 5:44 pm

IF things don’t improve this season……gonna be tough to recruit new talent……especially on offense……other than those prospects who figure that they have a real chance to play right away.

  560. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 5:44 pm

The only thing Taylor Graham has done is hurt this team. From turnovers to getting injured, is there anything this quarterback can do? I care about this program so much as an alumni (undergraduate only), that it pains me to see this program being driven off a cliff by an incompetent coach. I just care so much about this team.

  561. Moocher September 21, 2013 5:45 pm

my gosh…..can you imagine if all these trolls were at pearl harbor on dec. 7? these are guys that wouldve waived white flags instead of going the full duration and fight back despite the early destruction.

hate to say it but with fans like this yeah, i’m all for D2….we are have nots, we have not fans that realize you are sending a message to apple and jay that we dont support the team.

like people say, they support the troops, but not the government and it’s policies. support the team. show up even if you dont like the coach. otherwise don’t cry when we dont have football or we go D2 and ALL our local kids go away because there is no more home team playing D1.

of course have an opinion. but like chow or not, support the team. otherwise say aloha as manoa plays LCC and winner plays hilo in the poi bowl.

some smart guy had better form a conference, the paccc12 the pacific athletic community college conference because when apple and jay look at the support and feeling for football–at this rate they basically gonna see we dont care for football.

  562. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:45 pm

  566. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:48 pm

Subtract 2 plays and Nevada has less than 250 yards of total offense???

How many freakish plays did UNR convert on and UH fail?

  567. kapakahi September 21, 2013 5:48 pm

    #575,

Mostly in the 1st half….and at mop-up time.

  568. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 5:49 pm

@WarriorNY: I know you love to putt from the rough, but please don’t put that kind of lifestyle on us. Assemble your weapon and continue.

  569. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 5:51 pm

Defense had a good and bad night. Good for about 80% of plays, but bad on 3rd down… that was a killer as they couldn’t get off the field.

Losing Graham early was a big factor. UH was moving the ball in the first half, but losing the starting QB shrinks the playbook immensely. Those that wanted the backups got their wish and results were beyond ugly.

Either way, as I and many others have said, UH’s offense is going to be bad until the OLine is fixed. It’s been 3 games into this season and the OLine just isn’t getting it done. The worst part about it is that there’s no way to fix until the new recruits come in.

Losing brings out the worst in people. People need to see beyond what they see now. Today’s football fan wants wins immediately. They expect the type of immediate success like what June Jones had. That’s not realistic, but that’s what people demand nowadays.

The future is going to be good for UH. The talent is significantly better on defense than it was in years. St Juste just gave us a glimpse of what he’s capable of. Kirkwood and Kemp are legit deep threats. Moleni appears to be a capable TE. I think Garcia-Williams and Marrel Jackson have the talent to be playing on Sundays in a few years. Castro, Tulimasealii and Rasmussen look extremely promising once they are all ready to go next year.

Back when Chow was hired, I figured this to be a 3-4 minimum rebuilding process after evaluating the 2012 roster. Talent-wise, my opinion is that UH is ahead of schedule. For the win column, UH clearly isn’t there yet.

  570. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:51 pm

    IT,

What the hell are you talking about?

  571. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 5:52 pm

It’s going to be interesting to see Ohio State play Bama in the championship game.

I think Urban has his own dynasty in the brewing up there.

  572. Marleysdad September 21, 2013 5:52 pm

#552 I really can’t discount that, but 14 points off TO’s & we lost by 22. Still a 6 point diff. When it mattered the D did not come thru. Any stat from the second half don’t matter, the game was decided.

Don’t worry, I’ll be there for FSU.

  573. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 5:53 pm

Nice game by Brown and the Longhorns (sorry Ralph). This doesn’t come close to getting him off the smoker but hopefully it gives them the juice they need going forward in conference play.

  574. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:53 pm

    IT,

Didn’t you say you were a lawyer a few weeks ago?

I like to putt from the rough? Wth does that mean?

  575. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 5:53 pm

    IT,

Are you a doctor this week?

  576. Shamen September 21, 2013 5:54 pm

    [sharp inhale]

572: Y’know, you just might be on to something…Maybe — just maybe — Chow & co. were hired to DELIBERATELY SABOTAGE Hawaii football?

    [deep exhale]

No, wait, that would be ascribing far too much cunning and foresight to UH mucky-mucks than they have shown to date.

I think the sad, simple truth is that Chow & staff were hired with genuine optimism, but alas, they are just not very competent talent evaluators, recruiters, or football coaches.

  577. gobows September 21, 2013 5:56 pm

  580. Babo September 21, 2013 6:01 pm

Ah, yet another ass whoopin…. No wonder anyone who has talent in Hawaii leaves for other schools. This is getting really old…

  581. gobows September 21, 2013 6:02 pm

the talent is there, just not a lot of depth. the staff has been pretty good on their recruiting. they need to find a mobile qb. the coaches need to figure out why the 2nd halves are so disappointing, then maybe they will win some games.

  582. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 6:03 pm

    WarriorNY

Thing is Nevada didn’t need but two good plays. The rest of the time, they intercepted, recovered fumbles and had too good of a field position for it to matter – from 5 turn overs. They didn’t need all those yards to score. So, in this game, those numbers are pretty moot.

Nevada outplayed the Bows. At half time, it was “game over” for our side. At that altitude, our production after the 1st half starts to decline rapidly on both sides of the ball. In the latter part of the third quarter our guys looked like fish out of water, gasping but not getting the kind of air they needed. At that point, Nevada didn’t need any more Offensive production. They needed to kill the clock and let the Warriors wear themselves out.

  583. jeezy33 September 21, 2013 6:05 pm

WarriorNY, I have no made 1 negative comment since I told u I would stop. Hopefully now you believe what I been trying to say though.

  584. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 6:08 pm

@WarriorNY: The check you cut isn’t even half of what I make in a single day of billables. Why would I give money to a program that is determined to self destruct by hiring embarassments like Chow? In fact, it’s time to get back to my billables.

  585. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:10 pm

    MIH,

I don’t believe that UH was outplayed… I seriously believe if Taylor Graham was there the whole time, we would have won the game… We completely outplayed them. The score just doesn’t reflect that… It happens… I’ve never seen someone get twice as many first downs as another team and lose….

I think Nevada was extremely fortunate in some really freakish plays…

  586. kapakahi September 21, 2013 6:10 pm

Bama looks scary good again, and this is sort of a rebuilding year for them as they had to replace a ton of 2012 starters were drafted.

Didn’t see the game and didn’t listen to the radio.

To say we’re scoring challenged is an understatemnet. Hope the coaches can find a quick fix.

For next year….I hope Chow makes Rolo an offer he can’t refuse. He should get the big shots at the Downtown Athletic Club and Na Koa to start a kitty to subsidize a salary Reno can’t match and Rolo can’t refuse. We need an OC quick.

  596. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:25 pm

Norm chow is a joke he is running da warrior program to the ground. karma is coming back to bite him in his ass. that’s what he get for treating all the players he got rid of like crap. davis graves espeacially and a lot of other good players.

  598. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 6:27 pm

looking at other scores… SDSU just choked away a win. SDSU were outscored 20-3 in the 4th quarter, blowing a comfortable lead to Oregon St.

Rocky Long’s reputation is taking a pretty good hit as he has failed to re-load the roster after Brady Hoke’s core recruits graduated in 2012.

I think most (if not all) of the massive 40+ point favorites covered today… pretty amazing. That’s like super rare for that to happen. Miami covered 60, Washington covered 49, Louisville covered 41, Florida St covered 40, Ohio St covered 52, Virginia covered 44.5,

Need to give applause to the ACC for scheduling a grueling week… FSU, Miami, Maryland, Syracuse and Virgina won their games by a total of 269-30.

  599. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 6:28 pm

    WarriorNY,

Let’s agree to disagree on this one.

Nevada saw the Warriors huffing and puffing in the second half and backed off.. they backed off the line let the Warriors move the ball slowly across the field.. 3 yards.. 4 yards. 5 yards.. That is, until the Warriors got to midfield. Then Nevada put the clamp down and took the ball away. How devastating is that when you are running out of breath, to have the momentum stolen? To see the light at the end of the tunnel and then to lose sight of it, time and time again?

5 turn overs? 4 in the second half? Just on that stat alone, I’d say Nevada’s Defense outplayed our offense.

31 points to 9? No matter how I look at it, their 3rd string QB outplayed our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string Quarterbacks. Their Offense must have outplayed our Defense. They made the right calls at the right time.

Time of possession, first downs, yards? None of it matters if you lose. Especially if you lose by 22 points. Yard for yard you might think you played better but the truth is, you didn’t play smarter.

And smarter always gives you the edge.

  600. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 6:28 pm

    #607, COCOBEAN

Yep. We need an OC. Admittedly I know nothing about coaching football but the fact that QB, WR, OC, and HC duties are shared between 2 GA’s and Chow sounds like a HUGE responsibility especially for 2 “students”.

Some of our experts here have seen bright spots where we can work towards and thank goodness for that. To the average fan without experience like myself, I saw we regressed in this game and painted a bleaker picture going forward. Oh wells, we’ll see what happens.

  601. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:29 pm

manoa#1/Steve Imai… Can you just stop posting?

  602. GA Warrior September 21, 2013 6:30 pm

Former UH athlete,….whatever you are drinking, please pass it around, we would all love to be in fantasy land where you are currently residing. Sad, pathetic, no offensive strategy, two weeks and 9 points, hate to see how little we would have scored if we didnt have the bye week. Get rid of Chow now before sets this program back any farther than he already has

  603. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:31 pm

    I’m willing to bet

  605. A-House September 21, 2013 6:34 pm

another D & E? as in disappointing and embarrassing.

two certainly good things about today’s game was 1) we all got to see what St Jueste can do with the ball, and 2) all the QBs played which bodes well for future games

disappointing that the defensive scheme could not contain the “flat” passes that went for long yardage and/or TDs – hmmmmmm, sounds like a rerun from the OSU game when UH could not defend on many 3rd and long where a pass over the middle netted them plenty yards

disappointing with so many short/long passes and dropped balls

disappointing that NFL coaching experience has not translated to better defense in the OSU and Reno games – one thing for sure is that the talent of players on the next level is way beyond what UH has today and the coaching staff must readjust their mindset to address what players they have today or accept a losing record

will coaches egos be the “doomsday” for UH this season? – one fan says expect an 0 – 12 record for 2013 – say, I was there for the 0 – 12 1998 season!

if this occurs, what changes will be made for 2014?

just my opinion – no need to have played or coached the game – the Army is constantly reassigning/deploying soldiers, officers and enlisted men, to any battlefield yet it always seem to be successful – hmm, is this a good analogy?

will continue to support the team – should a win occur, great; if not, depression and sadness

  606. Jonj September 21, 2013 6:36 pm

What are u people talking about?? We lost to the 3rd stringers!! Rolo crafted a game plan and it worked. What’s the score if Cody fagardo was in?

Warrior NY if the RB doesnt lunge and jus puts some pads on the DE after a bad snap and higgins doesnt get sacked we dont lose the fumble for a TD. and if milovale doesn’t hold we have a touchdown by Higgins next play his guy runs around milovale and from the far right to hit our QB and it gets intercepted. BTW Higgins hasn’t gotten any real snaps in practice. AT ALL!!! The protection for some reason under graham wasn’t bad tho.

I believe chow is now discovering that recruiting OL isn’t as easy as he thought

  607. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:39 pm

How did Rolo plan some brilliant game plan? We had 6 turnovers! That had nothing to do with ROLO!

  608. Jonj September 21, 2013 6:43 pm

    3 string QB 14-20 202yrds n 3tds you fool! That’s nearly 75% accuracy

  609. Independent Thinker September 21, 2013 6:45 pm

WarriorNY: Thanks for the laughs. Assemble your weapon and continue.

  610. Jonj September 21, 2013 6:45 pm

  611. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:45 pm

    JonJ

So 202 yards is somehow great? When he got the majority off of two plays…

And you’re calling me a fool?

  612. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:47 pm

Chow going 24-45 has nothing to do with Rolo…

  613. cocobean September 21, 2013 6:48 pm

One thing about Indy is he’s so predictable about the tone of his posts.

Indy, I still don’t get your references to Koresh. Please explain. I know who he was but I don’t get the context you’re using his name. Jim Jones did have 900 or so of his followers drink cyanide laced kool aid but I still don’t get what you’re trying to say about Koresh.

  614. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:48 pm

    IT,

    What’s your name?

  615. Jonj September 21, 2013 6:50 pm

  619. Jonj September 21, 2013 6:55 pm

We made Nevadas defense look tougher than USC and Oregon states. We’re regressing in offense!

  620. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 6:56 pm

Ok… I’m going to sleep now… my thoughts..

Jonj thinks 202 yards of passing offense is “putting a clinic”… To each his own…

IT… Still waiting for your name…

  621. kitsunegari September 21, 2013 6:57 pm

Leave IT alone, he is extra upset that his fellow St. Louis High School alum didn’t solve the offensive woes.

  622. Johnny Manziel is a War Criminal September 21, 2013 6:59 pm

I’ve been saying for a while, I don’t get the whole koresh thing he keeps babbling about.

  623. Nainoa September 21, 2013 7:01 pm

    Neither do I. Its sad.

  624. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 7:01 pm

I will say this much. To Coach Chow’s credit, he gave all three back up quarterbacks extended time to play. He didn’t pull Higgins nor Woolsey after each had thrown their initial interceptions. He tried to coach them on their errors on the sideline and gave them another chance.

If Graham’s injury is bad enough, he’ll need to choose a starter our next game.

  625. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 7:03 pm

Wife called and asked how the Bows did.

    I said they lost.

    “Badly?” she asked.

    “Yeah,” I said.

She said, “I told you, you should have baked some bread while you were watching the game.”

“What’s that got to do with anything,” I asked her, rather defiantly.

“You would have at least gotten a rise out of that,” she said. Then, to finish me off she added… “Probably would have been more fun watching the bread rise than that game and it would have given you something to look forward to.”

So, I hung up on her.

The question now is… do I make steamed buns or baked buns?

  626. btn225 September 21, 2013 7:04 pm

Is it just me or does it feel like someone stole the coaches green notebook. Was a great offensive mind until the notebook was stolen. Maybe next we can find a Bobby Boucher.

  630. cocobean September 21, 2013 7:13 pm

WarriorNY. The name of the game on offense is scoring points. I tossed Rolo’s name out there because he’s a known commodity to UH fans. Chow brought in Price to help “open up” the offense (his words). No matter how the season plays out we will still need an OC for next year. Why not Rolo?

  631. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 7:14 pm

    manoa#1,

you only got one personality today? don’t want to call upon your friends GA Warrior and WarriorinGA?

  633. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 7:21 pm

    cocobean,

To be honest with you, I actually agree with you… I always wanted Rolo to stay… But now I understand what Chow is trying to do… The philosophies of each offense is so different… Both have been very successful…

But to say Rolo “put a clinic on” or out “game planned” Coach Chow from a strictly offensive standpoint is just not accurate…

  634. Warrior September 21, 2013 7:22 pm

  637. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 7:29 pm

no secrets as to why the offense isn’t working… the Oline is bad. Ask Ben Roethlisberger if it’s any fun to play QB behind a bad OLine. You can change coordinators and schemes, but if the OLine is a siv, the offense is going to struggle.

I know everybody wants a dual threat QB nowadays, but in reality, quality D1 ready dual threat QBs are very few and very far between and the ones that are D1 ready don’t go to mid-major schools, the big boy schools have a hammerlock on the top dual threat QBs. The ones that end up at non BCS schools are developmental guys or don’t have the arms to attract major schools. Plus the dual threat label is getting used a little too liberally. There are many “running QBs” that are poor throwers that are getting “dual threat” label as it’s en vogue. Taylor Martinez (Nebraska) is a name that’s getting the dual threat label, but he sucks as a thrower.

Even with dual threat QBs, if the OLine can’t protect the passer, it’s just a matter of time before the dual threat QB is in crutches.

Boise St is doing just fine with immobile QBs the past 6 years. Tahj Boyd isn’t that mobile. neither is Jameis Winston at FSU, or Derek Carr, or Colt Brennen for that matter. Mariota and Johnny football are the exception, not the normal.

  638. Warrior September 21, 2013 7:29 pm

Manoa, you the same dumb azz that said that A. Wily would never play for hawaii?

  639. MattyBoy September 21, 2013 7:30 pm

I know nobody cares what I say but I’m gonna say it anyways…… Chow is freaking horrible and we should start looking for another coach. We’ll never ever progress with his style of play. He is straight up horrible!!

  640. manoa#1 September 21, 2013 7:33 pm

Lmaaoo Angry old school dave you too funny.!! you sure you not piss off at chows coaching.

  641. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 7:37 pm

645… to add to your point. A coach/coordinator can’t gameplan for the starting QB to go down with injury. Not to mention the top 2 RBs on the depth chart. Iosefa didn’t make it through 2 series and UH’s best offensive player tonight, Saint Juste was out by halftime. The #3 Lakalaka still managed 5 yards per carry, so he was effective (but the 2 chop block penalties were costly).

UH was statistically better than Nevada in most categories. The turnovers were the killer as Nevada was gift wrapped some short fields that led to 14 points. Outside the turnovers, Nevada only had two big plays on offense. The only thing UH did poorly on defense was not getting any key stops on 3rd down in the first half.

Nevada’s only points in the 2nd half was from turnovers. Nevada did not manufacture an offensive drive the entire 2nd half. It was a 1 score game until Schroeder gave Nevada the ball via interception.

  642. manoa#1 September 21, 2013 7:37 pm

warrior yeah I bet he wish he never sign with da warriors now.

  643. AlaWai September 21, 2013 7:40 pm

We have the makings of a “good team.” The missing piece in my opinion is QB play. Graham has the tools but his apprenticeship has been too short. Schroeder has the heart and knowledge but lacks the tools. Higgins needs time and experience. Woolsey needs a lot more snaps. Dr. Chow put them all on the field for game experience. There is now a lot of film to analyze each. His forte is coaching QBs. Let’s see who emerges with the right stuff. RBs and Wrs looked better and overall game management improved. Eliminate the turnovers and the game would have been closer. Hopefully the D. will continue to play with heart until the O improves. So far this year we have been more competitive. If the goal is to win the conference, then play as many games as possible including Colorado. I try to watch the games as a series of battles in each play. UH is “winning” a few more battles against stronger foes. Hopefully enough battles will be won to win a war. I was in favor of Miano as the head coach, Rolo as the OC and Aranda as the DC. However, someone in Manoa sought “Big Time” with Dr. Chow as the leader. We’ll see if it will work. It might take some time.

  644. WarriorNY September 21, 2013 7:40 pm

  645. cocobean September 21, 2013 7:40 pm

    WarriorNY.

Said earlier I didn’t see or listen to the game. I didn’t post or even read the post about Rolo outcoaching Chow. It’s not style to comment on something like that without having seen it myself.

To that matter, I hope whoever posted that saw the game to come up with that opinion.

  646. Warrior September 21, 2013 7:43 pm

Manoa, go get your GED, STFU and do not post any more comments as it is obvious that you are a negative Troll. No one wants to hear your negative crap. Yeah, Chow may “suck” right now but the the Boys need our support. Loser.

These guys work hard and try their best so hopefully our student/athletes never read this blog. For those of you who have participated in organized sports, it is never easy to be on the losing side and to hear all the negative crap that so called supporters throw out. You know how it is and any support was always appreciated. I will always support our student/athletes for their commitment to be better, their sacrifice, commitment to the program and to their education.

  652. MattyBoy September 21, 2013 8:01 pm

    Angry old school Dave,

Brah I give it to you you one funny frikka!

  653. whatevass September 21, 2013 8:04 pm

What astounds me is how people can still have unwavering faith in Chow. Sure its only his second year and he doesn’t have all the perfect players yet… but how much longer does our lose streak have to be? how much emptier does the stadium have to get? and how much more boring does our team have to be until you guys realize that he just MIIIIIIGHHHTTT not be a good coach? You say that everyone who hates on him are trolls and not “real” fans and you’re probably right. I admit, I am not a “real” fan of our football team due to health issues because I feel like I might get a stroke every time I watch them play. But having graduated from UH, I have pride in the school that they represent and want them to do good. Which is exactly why I wish Chow would get replaced. Honestly. Would you send your kid to a doctor who doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing? When your kids sick and dying, the doctor says “well, these drugs never worked the past 20 times, but I’ll prescribe them anyway.” yeah right I’d be like get the fack outta hereeeeeee!

  654. kifi September 21, 2013 8:04 pm

Wow, plenty angry people on the blog. I think it’s great to see and hear all of the passion for the football program. I like it, keep it coming. What’s funny is, no matter what perspective or angle you guys take, you’re all right. Everybody to some extent is correct.

goodnight WarriorNation see you guys next week after the fresno state game.!!! I wonder what the excuses going be next week.!!

  661. Shamen September 21, 2013 8:18 pm

654: “Former UH Athlete” — should change your handle to “Current Chow Apologist.” Figures lie, and liars figure. Stats are irrelevant when scoreboard says “UH GOT OKOLES SPANKED. AGAIN.” Nevada didn’t need big offensive numbers because we gave them short fields to work with. Score could have been much, much worse if Nevada kept foot on gas to the end.

Why so many injuries? Try this on for size: Chow KILLS them in practice. NFL has gone the opposite route via CBA because they’ve finally realized the games are violent enough, but Chow KILLS his young guys in practice. That doesn’t build toughness — it just beats them down even more. I want a coach that makes the game fun, win or lose. Chow is the opposite.

Another reason to reconsider football altogether: Iuta Tepa. Say a prayer, Warriors fans. 4 REAL.

  662. manoa#1 September 21, 2013 8:18 pm

good night Warrior sleep tight and sweet dreams of coach chow you dumb ass.!!

  663. Old Diver September 21, 2013 8:20 pm

Higgins showed the best footwork of the QB’s. I liked the way he would slide in the pocket to avoid the rush giving himself more time. Graham and SS just don’t have that feel for the pocket making a shaky online look even worse. Too bad Higgins hasn’t had the reps to be effective. Sure he has his short comings but the days of the immobile QB are long gone.

  664. Warrior September 21, 2013 8:21 pm

    Thank you, Loser.

  665. Old School Dave September 21, 2013 8:25 pm

Well, does UH have $1.65 million in order to buy out the remaining years on Chow’s contract? UH is not like Auburn or Tennessee which have the $$$ to buy out fired coaches (Chizik and Dooley).

  666. ChowIsPau September 21, 2013 8:25 pm

my how the tables have turned?

    Fire Chow.

  667. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 8:29 pm

Tyler Graham had a dislocated shoulder. He’ll be out for the rest of this season.

    So, who’s next?

  668. jeezy33 September 21, 2013 8:33 pm

FUHA, our O line is bad and a problem but by no means does that mean you can’t game plan to counter that. If we were facing legit Ds like USC every week then it would be tough. We can run more 3 step drops and let coverage dictate routes pre snap but I don’t think Hawaii works on any of that. Routes are predetermined and no adjustments at all based on what the D is playing.

There are play calls that counter aggressive pass rushes. We just call a very vanilla game and it is too easy to prepare for.

  669. Shamen September 21, 2013 8:40 pm

  670. The Pillar September 21, 2013 8:51 pm

    Old School Dave…RIGHT ON!!!

    WarriorNY…YOU DA MAN!!!

We need 50,000 more fans like you guys. Too many Haters who have no solutions except fire the coach and panic after a loss.

People…keep things in perspective. Did you see the headlines?

“39 dead in Kenya mall attack; hostages still held”

    This is just football.

No need to panic yet. Only game 3. Year 2. It’s not like we are USC or Texas.

Give your coach major obstacles to building a better program and expect him to win early year 2. Come on….we’re not buying out Chow’s contract right now. Get real.

  671. Former UH Athlete September 21, 2013 8:59 pm

687… Non throwing shoulder… Shouldn’t be out too long unless he tore something, but any dislocated/separated shoulder is bad because it’s super easy to re-injure. I know by first hand experience.

Jeezy, you absolutely can gameplan around bad pass blocking, but at the same time you also become predictable. Once CBs bump and run the WRs, that wipes out the timing Of the quick routes. So damned of you do damned if you don’t. In any case pass rushers are getting to the QB in under 2 seconds, which isn’t enought time for a 3 step drops or enough time to progress through the options. What’s worse is that in most cases, opponents aren’t blitzing and they’re getting though too easy… So screens won’t be effective if only the DL is coming. Screens work best vs blitz.

It’s just a really tough situation with no obvious solutions. Just gotta take the lumps and wait for Naeole to work his recruiting magic…which is why he was hired. As somebody mentioned, the local Hawaii recruiting class is thin on OL talent. Chow’s got the local OL commit from Kapoi

Anybody know John Wa’a’s status? If he’s available, I think it’s time to put him in unless he’s red shirting. Got to see if he’s going to be a good one or not, but I don’t think its worth tearing up the redshirt during this season unless Chow/Naeole are forced to do it.

  672. Think2Much September 21, 2013 9:01 pm

Grahams left shoulder. Remember the Utah State game at home when UH thought it has a win in the bag and the freshman QB Keaton was taken out in the first half in an ambulance? Moniz and co. was making it look easy. Then USU put in that big QB with the bad shoulder and UH couldn’t stop him even when they had guys hanging on him and USU pulled out a victory against the Moniz led team.

QB play is one of the problems. Sure the line is bad but gotta get the ball out faster.

  673. Konoman1 September 21, 2013 9:04 pm

Yes Goodnite Manoa 1… You said you work with Wily’s dad . interesting cuz I know several people who work with him too and one of my close friends is the big boss . I must do some investigating on this. love to know who the jerk is!

  674. Konoman1 September 21, 2013 9:08 pm

Hey Manoa 4…how many times you gotta write your name?

To the fire Chow group… Better donate to UH to pay for Chow’s buyout.

The reality is that Chow’s is getting paid peanuts. Good luck finding a qualified coach at Chow’s salary on top of buying him out. I heard Bobby Hauck might be available next season.

    Just for reference recent hiring…

Kliff Kingsbury, getting paid $2.1 million minimum as a first time HC – TexTech

Jim McElwain – paid $1.4 million 1st time HC at Colorado St

Tim Deruyter – just got a raise to $675k base, up to $1 million per year

Skip Holtz – paid $1.2 million base at La Tech

Dave Christensen – $1.2 million at Wyoming

Chow makes $550k base, which I believe is in the bottom 15 or 20 lowest HC salaries in FBS.

At Chow’s pay level, he is going to be at UH a minimum of 4 years, so complaining on a free blog does nothing. Chow will be allowed to run his program for at least 1-2 recruiting classes to make their way through the system.

Whoa, just saw SJSU got blown out at Minnesota. They lost the time of possession 18min to 42min. Basically they played like the Eagles vs Chiefs. Too many errors, couldn’t make a stop on defense.

And the defense got absolutely run over. Maybe a drop off post-Macintyre? Offense put up yards, but were bad on 3rd down (1 of 9).

True frosh OG Wa’a didn’t dress for the SC game……nor travel to Corvallis or Reno…..so probably redshirting.

Announcers were saying that the receivers were taking too long to get where they had to be. In other words, the passing plays just took too long to develop.

Utah State and Wyoming (beat up on AFA at their house) look to be tough games. Hell, every game will be a tough one. Just gotta keep fighting. Still a lot of football to be played this season.

Man, I’m as disappointed as everyone else. I have many questions that I will wait until tomorrow to ask.

Too many idiots posting garbage today. Some of you visitors who come out to gloat when UH loses are just simply PILAU.

To the regulars who I usually enjoy reading and commenting with, you have a good nite.

Too bad Utah St couldn’t pull off the upset at USC… They had their chances to win, but Keeton was under heavy pressure and had no time to throw and was running for his life in the 2nd half. He missed badly on several throws to open receivers. Watching the game, He looked a little in awe playing in the Coliseum, even though it was about 65% full. Once USC dialed up the pressure, Keeton looked out of sorts.

What surprised me about Keeton was his lack of touch on his throws and that he’s a small guy. I though he was bigger than he is.

#697. Good point. Those folks yelling “fire Chow” do not understand the complexity of college level athletic coaching and management. Te cost of athletics is expensive and growing. UH does not enjoy a large, wealthy, supportive alumni base that could easily buy out contracts of coaches the fans are unhappy with.

I agree that we are building a new foundation and Graham was improving. The line did a better job run blocking but struggleed pass blocking later in the game and were probably as one mentioned gassed.

SS and Higgins are nice folks but are not going to step ahead of Graham. Woosley has promise and if Graham cannot go, it would be nice to see him step in to run the show.

Defense had good moments but the bad moments really hurt. Those long plays on third down and long were in opportune breakdowns in coverage. We’ll get better here.

Nevada played a good game and beat us. We wanted to win but the mistakes hurt.

I do not expect a win next week. I’d like to see mistakes minimized. FSU is going to win the division.

We have terrific players but need more depth. I remain very supportive of the entire team.

694… True about ball not getting out soon enough. The QBs lack of game experience is showing up as the QBs tend to stare down their target, waiting for them to get open. I don’t think its intentional, but locking onto a target happens when a QB isn’t comfortable and/or confident,,, that causes them to process information slower, thus staring down. Even just 0.5 second makes a big difference.

  686. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 9:58 pm

I don’t think they’re going to sell many $75.00 a game PPV subscriptions this season.

  687. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 10:33 pm

Well, those yelling “fire Chow” don’t have to understand the complexities. If they are fans, they have a right to their opinions, likes or dislikes regarding the program. If they are season ticket, ticket, PPV subscribers, they are the program’s customers and they are GOD to the program. If you’re trying to get their money, you need to do all you can to provide the consumer with a product that he, she, or they appreciate.

You have to listen, understand, and appease or take a chance of losing your customer base. Say, you have 18K die hard fans, if things continue this way, you might only have 15K next season. Some get too old, others move away, while others get discouraged. Eventually, you need to listen to your fan base to grow the base, other wise, you are out of business.

  688. cocobean September 21, 2013 10:39 pm

Growing pains are painful for the fans but you can double that pain for the coaches, players and their families. We have more talent than we had last year but not enough to make a big difference in the W-L column.

I am beginning to think Chow is not a very good poker player. He must have some “tells” that our opponents are picking up on film. We seem to make every defense we play into the Steel Curtain for a day. Won’t get into how he’s playing the hands he’s dealt.

  689. markazulu September 21, 2013 10:54 pm

I think people are over reacting a tad saying chow and company were sent to “sabotage” hawaii football thats a little outrageous but also so is wishing our own QB to get hurt so another player comes which is a horrible mindset to have. But we have the talent i think as far as offense goes we NEED A FULL TIME OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR or at least someone to help coach up the qb, wr, rb. No excuses we lost thats it they beat us no stat matters except the W or L at the end of the day.

  690. markazulu September 21, 2013 11:03 pm

A rebuilding process is never an easy one but people should remember we are switching offensive schemes but seriously i think its completely unacceptable how our offense has been so inconsistent im glad to see we moved the ball better today as yards wise this was our best output but seriously i think it was 6 turnovers on offense today thats absolutely horrendous. Our Defense played ok but gave up TO MANY big conversions on 3rd down, blown coverages.

Bottom line is we NEED TO PLAY BETTER

1 touchdown, 7 turnovers on offense is unacceptable

I’m more understandable and i think chow TRUE year of judgement is next year where he should have all the pieces to his puzzle to at least produce a winning program.

  691. madeinhawaii September 21, 2013 11:41 pm

    markazulu,

Thing is, nobody asked the public/fans whether or not they wanted so drastic a change in offensive schemes. I for one didn’t. I saw the wide open offense of the RnS as part of our Warrior brand. I said so shortly after Chow was hired. It was the hardest thing for me to let go of in this changing of the guards. I don’t need the RnS back, but this Pro set still has not impressed me at all.

  692. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 11:44 pm

    Cocobean,

Gotta agree with you again. I don’t know how in the hell our opponents defense do so fricken well against our passing attack. It’s like we have to try with all out might and hearts just to make a 3-4 yard out pass. Or how Nevada’s tightends managed to get open to reak havoc but our TE weren’t as effective.

I really wish I knew why other defenses are so damn good against us. 🙁

  693. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 21, 2013 11:46 pm

And why the hell isn’t Billy Ray Stutzman playing?!!!?

Thought he was already cleared to play!

  694. LizKauai (mbp) September 22, 2013 12:03 am

One nice thing about being an old fut is that I can enjoy seeing our players as kids and I SUPPORT THE KIDS.

I don’t second guess the coaches. They are responsible for taking care of the kids. Inspiring them. Training them. Empowering them.

12th Man is all about CHEERING FOR THE KIDS.

That makes football fun for all.

Excellence will come faster with more encouragement.

    GO, RAINBOW WARRIORS!
