Healing process
Turning lemons into lemonade? Quarterback Sean Schroeder is making the most of his journey from back surgery to comeback. He studies videos, chats up quarterback counsel Jordan Wynn, and helps coordinate unsupervised workouts despite being on modified-activity status. UH coach Norm Chow has praised Schroeder’s approach, even as Taylor Graham, Jeremy Higgins and Ikaika Woolsey share the reps during Schroeder’s rehab.
“Everybody is trying to do their part,” Schroeder said. “We’re trying to improve from last season.”
Schroeder started 11 of 12 games in his first UH season in 2012. He played and never complained despite absorbing more than 120 hits that might have contributed to his lower-back injury. He underwent surgery on April 1.
“It’s part of sports,” Schroeder said. “I’ve been lucky to not have major injuries to this point. It’s something you have to deal with in sports. I’m a lucky person to be here in Hawaii and be part of this team.”
The timetable for a full recovery is a blurred line. “You don’t want to do something stupid right now to push the envelope and have a setback,” Schroeder said. “I’m listening to doctors’ orders, which is tough at times. As soon as they tell me to do more things, I’ll do it, and progress that way.”
Last week, Schroeder was cleared to perform more strenuous physical therapy. He said new strength/conditioning coordinator Gary Beemer has created a workout program for “keeping me in shape and taking some stress off my lower back. That’s been good. Im starting to do more things. It’s a process and I’m working through it.”

All eyes are on Schroeder …
… who is calling out a play:
first?
Thoughts and prayers for Curveball and his family. I enjoyed his posts.
Like many here, Curveball was more entertaining in person. And that’s why tailgate parties were invented.
RIP, Curveball.
Life is short. Let’s enjoy each other’s company.
I’m reaching out tonight!!!
BEAT USC!!!
laulau head:
We’ll see ya tonight.
Good morning everyone, great story on Schroeder. We wish a speedy recovery for him and hope to see him back in action soon.
RIP Curveball, thoughts and prayers to his Ohana.
Awsome day to be easy, stay blessed everyone.
Good Morning Folks!
Never had the opportunity to meet Curveball, but from all accounts a wonderful guy! He is tailgating in the heavenlies now..what joy!
Best wishes to Schroeder for a full recovery!
Great Morning All!
Top X!
Get “back” soon Sean Schroeder!
jmxxxx,
Good luck to Espana…hope they can keep Brazil away from the penalty box. Those Brazilians get pretty creative in close to the goal.
Good morning!
Not much cooler here than KC.
What the heck?!?!
I know it’s a normal amount for most schools, but it does feel odd that UH only has four QBs on training-camp roster.
obviously like your web-site but you have to test the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very bothersome to inform the reality on the other hand I’ll certainly come back again.
Rolo’s been roaming the neighborhood – don’t know if this was posted.
Note the comments by da recruit … “ohana”, “comfortable”, “great fit” ?
… The Nevada football team picked up its seventh, eighth and ninth verbal commitments for the 2014 class, according to various media reports.
The three players are St. Louis School (Honolulu) linebacker Jacob Lacaden, Norte Vista (Riverside, Calif.) receiver Victor Gonzalez and receiver/defensive back Ahki Muhammad of Logan High in Union City, Calif.
Lacaden, 6-foot, 190 pounds, has an offer from Weber State and is getting interest from Hawaii and Colorado, according to Scout.com, which first reported the verbal commitment.
His lead recruiter is offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich, who played and coached at Hawaii and recruits the islands for the Wolf Pack.
“Nevada has great coaches and the true meaning of ohana (family) is there,” Lacaden told Scout.com. “I’m very comfortable with Coach (Brian) Polian, (defensive coordinator Scott) Hazelton, Coach (Andy) Vaughn and Coach Rolovich. … Nevada is a great fit for me.”
Gonzalez (6-2, 170) had more than 1,000 yards receiving last season.
Muhammad (5-9, 178) also has an offer from Hawaii, according to Rivals.com.
Verbal commitments are not binding. Players can sign Letters of Intent in February.”
… from the reno gazette.
If for some crazy reason they all go down or are suspended they can count on Joey Iosefa to run the read option/wildcat/triple option for them like Harding did for punting.
UH can counter Nevada with a number: 110.
That’s the temperature.
UH actually ran the read-option a few times last year. Not well, but it was run.
Character. Sean is a 10-star student/player/person. Glad he is enjoying his stay in Hawaii.
When he was the OC with the Titans a few years ago, Chow implemented the read-option as a gimmick. In the second quarter, with the Titans down, Vince Young carries the ball three times on the read-option. The three carries total 70 yards and result in a touchdown. The DC makes the adjustment at halftime. The Titans, not thinking they would ever use that play, have no way to counter another team’s counter. A read option was called in the third quarter. Young gets flattened. A few days later, the Titans began working on a counter-attack to the defense’s counter-attack. It was then announced that the read-option would be scrapped. Apparently there was concern in Young’s camp about running the play.
Good morning everyone!
Take your time and get well, Schroeder– one football season versus the rest of your life. Life wins!
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Best wishes to Sean Schroeder! Back surgery is no fun.
😎 sunny day and feeling like humidity slowly rising
morning
headind to the hide out, kope strong and ac blasting
happy Sunday play nice now
Sean Schroeder is a class act…a pretty fair QB and would have done alot better if he wasn’t getting flattened every other play due to a O line that had not come together yet. If he never plays another down I wish him well….da bugga planty tough.
Sean Schroeder – a Warrior all the way. Prayers for quick healing.
Where is Vince Young now…I think his camp should have allowed him to do things he was good at. The read option was one of those things.
SteveM:
unsure what happened, but at least at home, I no longer have to “log-in” with name and mail site – it now pops up automatically – hooray!
now, if it only will happen at work – argguh
it is said or at least publically stated that this coach or that coach was instrumental in developing a player
lest we not forget all those surrounding this player who may have contributed greatly to that player’s success such as many 4* and 5* teammates.
.
Afternoon!
Good to see that Willis is “home in the islands.”
ST ~ Thanks for the pics.
Don’t rush it, Sean. You have more life ahead of you.
Yeah, I’ll miss Curveball. His grandson is Slider; but what is his granddaughter’s handle?
A-House – As mentioned, the name and email is remembered in a “cookie” on the computer* you are using. You mentioned having to learn another computer application/service at work. It is possible that the “cookies” were turned off/not allowed on your web browser.
This is sometimes done for security reasons because malware could use info stored in cookies from other places than the Warrior Beat. You have to ask your Tech guy at work… but that’s the Catch-22, isn’t it. 😕
* actually cookies in the web browser program you are using on that work computer, but I’m trying to keep it simple. But this could be a workaround–use a second different web browser–but you really should check with your work Tech guy first… especially if they are the ones that disabled the cookies recently. 😐
Good afternoon!
Aloha, Curveball.
Cheer on!
#31 Slugger: Curveball, Slider and “Changeup”– per myki—- 🙂 sj
Still recall that hit Schroeder took against Air Force when he scrambled on 4th and long late in the fourth quarter (down by 14). He came up a yard short and was clearly shaken afterward and needed assistance off the field. Yet, I give him props for lowering his shoulder and attempt to get that first down. Might have been unnecessary given the risk to reward, but it just shows the amount of grit that guy plays with
That hit probably ranks up there with the clothes-hanger hit Moniz took against the Trojans in 2010.
So, this is what Hell feels like. Put a fork in me, folks. I think I’m done!
It’s not an easy life being a UH quarterback.
Tim Chang, Colt Brennan, Tyler Graunke, Greg Alexander, Bryant Moniz and David Graves absorbed some huge hits.
Alexander still isn’t fully healthy. It’s been four years.
Howzit Tsaikos!
Schroeder has the correct approach to rehab. Listen to the experts!
Today’s SA poll needs another category: no, I have season tickets.
Gosh dang, it sure is HOT!
80 degrees.
What the heck?!?!
Of course it is cooler than KC and LV.
Heal up Sean!
Mahalo, sjmacro & myki.
I might have a couple of FB tickets available if I move before the USC game. 🙁

SAD!
no money for a spam filter?
wTH!
This is ridiculous!!!!!!! Can you imagine during football season with all this spam.
I’ve always enjoyed ST’s blog! B Stephen’s reporting on the Football Program, etc.; the daily responses and banter between the Tsaikos and Tsaikettes; the drama of UH; and a certain “fowl”.
Thankfully, I am sure that since tomorrow is 7/1/13–we will finally be FREE at last from spam (the un-canned Chicken Kine). Okay–I am really crossing fingers, toes, eyes–whatever–that tomorrow will be officially declared SPAM FREED DAY! :-). Which is a good way leading into Fourth of July weekend!
Go Rainbow Warriors! Beat USC!
statistical analysis can determine who’s the culprit…
Is today the day that we are now and forever officially Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine? If so, Let me be the first to say,………..Let’s Go Bows!
Hi Al, Hi 3-prong!
Okay, looks like someone was up late last night to prove he could still spam…sheesh!
LET’s GO BOWS!!!
