Every football team needs a grinder, a workmanlike player who can be used at several positions. The Warriors might have found one in Max Broman, a walk-on from Alta High in Utah.

Broman was a running back and linebacker in high school. He will be joining the Warriors mostly to compete on special teams. He is expected to be on the 104-player roster for training camp.

Our thoughts and prayers are with former UH defensive back Lametrius Davis, who reportedly is recovering from a shotgun wound.

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Welcome to the ohana, Mr. Broman!

    Speedy healing to LD!

  19. Derek June 12, 2013 8:33 am

Broman kinda reminds me of Brock Forsey. Remember the children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendek. In the story, the kid’s name is Max!!!!!!

  20. Derek June 12, 2013 8:48 am

Remember the Titans is one of the greatest sports movie of all time. It is a true story about a high school football in Virginia. The QB in that movie “Sunshine” Bass was a transplanted California kid who rallies the team and the community. In real life, (Matt Pardue) he played QB in college so he played the part. Stars Denzel Washington and Will Patton were great. Without a doubt, it is one of my favorite sports movie and every Rainbow Warrior should see the movie again, I’m assuming they already saw it. Good way to begin the new season.

Note: Any movie that is a true story is good. I wouldn’t mind seeing a movie about the Boise St. football team that beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Other good true football movies, “Glory Road” about the Texas Western basketball team and “Coach Carter” starring Samuel Jackson. Enjoyed them all.

  21. jm2375 June 12, 2013 8:49 am

$600K to play at the Rose Bowl 4 years from now? What’s the net after expenses? 0? Hopefully, UH doesn’t lose money on these games.

  22. RB June 12, 2013 8:49 am

Got it be that Trevor Davis goes to school here? Hmmmmmmm

  25. Old School Dave June 12, 2013 9:01 am

Well, best of luck to Trevor Davis. However, with regards to players going to this school or that school, I remember former UH HC Dick Tomey said it best:

“Best of luck to those players, but I’m just focused on the guys who are here and want to play for Hawaii.”

  26. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2013 9:19 am

I don’t know if TD made a final decision. He also was looking at a school in Texas.

  27. BigWave96744 June 12, 2013 9:26 am

We know of “dabowman”, now meet “dabroman”

  28. BigWave96744 June 12, 2013 9:28 am

Max’s HS teammate is incoming WR recruit Ammon Barker

  29. SteveM June 12, 2013 9:32 am

    Good morning everyone!

    Welcome Max Broman!

  30. A-House June 12, 2013 9:35 am

Max appears to be quick, fast, strong, shifty, nose for the open spaces – special teams player? – hmmmmm, did not see him tackle anyone.

    must have missed it!

  31. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 12, 2013 9:36 am

    jm,

I am guessing we could net around $500K?

  32. A-House June 12, 2013 9:36 am

    Rage777:

gotta agree that he looks like the Titans QB – long hair and all – but, must cut the “locks” if he wants to play for UH.

  33. A-House June 12, 2013 9:40 am

On these “body bag games” – the profit will all depend on the number of “hangeroners” who want to travel with the team; ala the Sugar Bowl.

leave them off and take only the necessary players, coaches, and medical staff – if they want to travel with the team – PAY YOUR OWN WAY!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. cheepono June 12, 2013 9:40 am

no mention of fitou fisiiahi in today’s article about our new commit. he no longer committed to UH?

  35. A-House June 12, 2013 9:43 am

OK, Derek, the SID, and others who have UH interests at heart – begin the drumming nationwide about the Michigan and Kansas and UCLA games to attract anyone on the mainland who wants to attend a game.

yes, the Sugar Bowl was an exception, but advance notice is necessary for planning purposes and save “da kala” – no forget scheduling vacation!

  36. Ponojr June 12, 2013 9:51 am

    Why did TD leave?

  37. Old School Dave June 12, 2013 10:01 am

Wisconsin’s WRs look more like tight ends in stature. UH had some big WRs over the years in players like Darius Bright and Attrice Brooks, but they never really panned out.

Heard that interns at Google earn over $5000 a month. Sweet!

  38. Kevin June 12, 2013 10:14 am

Any relation to Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago?

  39. BigWave96744 June 12, 2013 10:26 am

Skill wise, Attrice Brooks, did pan out. It was his attitude that stunk

  40. Jesse(James) June 12, 2013 10:43 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!!!

Best wishes and prayers for Lametrius Davis!!!

Gotta love da blue collar guys!!!

  41. Jesse(James) June 12, 2013 10:48 am

Kevin, I thought you were the sausage king of Aiea??? Oh wait, you said Chicago….. 🙂

  42. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 12, 2013 10:49 am

    Attrice Brooks…smh

  43. WarriorMojo June 12, 2013 11:06 am

Aside from being human males who played football for JJ at UH, what do Attrice Brooks and Craig Stutzman have in common?

  44. WarriorMojo June 12, 2013 11:10 am

Saw Richard Torres today. Thanked him for being a Warrior and creating so many great memories with his efforts. He told me that he’ll be joining the UH staff as a grad assistant to work on his masters.

  45. Kevin June 12, 2013 11:17 am

    Jesse(James),

    Pearl City brah.. PC.

Been at war with Koamahu who remains Sausage King of Hotel Street. 😆

  47. jimmy the lock June 12, 2013 11:46 am

Still get spam and trackbacks, auwe.

  48. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2013 12:07 pm

    Big Wave:

I think “dabro” is something they yell out in Serbia (or is it Greece?) They use that chant whenever Siki Zarkovic has a good play.

  49. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2013 12:11 pm

I remember JJ said he was going to make Attrice Brooks a star in the Oahu Bowl.

The plan was to use Brooks as a right wideout during quarters in which he would be aligned on the near sideline. That way JJ could personally shout out instructions to Brooks.

As it turned out, Brooks kicked somebody, and got ejected.

Who knew the more mature receiver in that game would be Chad Johnson.

  50. Stephen Tsai June 12, 2013 12:11 pm

It was after that game, one of the assistant coaches dubbed him Theatrics Brooks.

  51. A-House June 12, 2013 12:25 pm

I remember when Attrice Brooks kicked the opponent and saw it on tv – actually, Brooks kicked the guy 2 or 3 times right in front of the opponents bench.

Masaboy says Chad Johnson is serving 30 days in jail for something.

  52. d1shima June 12, 2013 12:26 pm

Did Ocho Cinco slap any bottoms in that game? 😯

  53. d1shima June 12, 2013 12:27 pm

IIRC it was more stomping than kicking

  54. d1shima June 12, 2013 12:29 pm

…and then again, a review of the video would confirm that. They are probably still showing that at the referee prep sessions during the preseason. 🙄

  55. Kevin June 12, 2013 12:39 pm

Well, if you are going to get caught and get in trouble.. don’t just “kick”, indeed.. STOMP AWAY!

  56. Bowwar June 12, 2013 12:40 pm

I think the Judge was a bitch in the Johnson case…Would she have given him the sentence if he fist bumped his attorney? She just hit him with the penalty because people in the gallery laughed…

  57. Old School Dave June 12, 2013 12:42 pm

Attrice Brooks definitely had the necessary statue (6.5 215 lbs) and skills to play at the next level. Both he and Darius Bright were CCSF transfers, I believe.

  58. gobows June 12, 2013 12:55 pm

jm2375 – are you saying it costs over half a million for the football team to travel to the west coast for a football game?

round trip airfare for 100 would be under $100K (more like under $70K). so lodging, meals, and buses cost another $400K?

jj was quoted as saying the payment for going to ‘bama was enough to cover all the travel expenses for the year.

i think you are way off on this one.

  59. mo808 June 12, 2013 1:05 pm

    Good Afternoon Folks!

    Welcome to Max Broman!

Prayers for complete healing and recovery for Lametrius Davis!

  60. SteveM June 12, 2013 1:13 pm

I dunno. I think we should net a million for a body bag game…

  61. jimmy the lock June 12, 2013 1:19 pm

    Old School Dave,

What is a the necessary statue? Oscar? Lady Liberty? Heisman replica?

  62. SteveM June 12, 2013 1:37 pm

Way back during the discussions of Hawaii going independent in football and needing to attract 1A opponents to maintain it’s own status, I was dreaming of this offer to the big name opponents…

Want another exciting game against a Div. 1A opponent?

    Contract us…

    * $1 million per game in your stadium. You pay travel.

    * $1.25 million if game is televised nationally

    * $1.4 million if you name us Homecoming opponents

Special discounts for a home-and-home series!

  63. d1shima June 12, 2013 1:53 pm

Is it a good idea for recruiting sake that its most “loyal fans” are referring to the team playing “body bag games”? 🙄

  64. Derek June 12, 2013 1:56 pm

As Vince Lombardi said, “What the hell is going on out there!” UCLA has offered a football scholarship to a QB, who just completed his 8th grade in Texas. On the heels of a California 8th grader who was offered by USC, a WR from Upland. This is absolutely crazy and just too early and even Matt Millen from ESPNU said the same thing.

  65. d1shima June 12, 2013 2:00 pm

Is Mac coaching in the Pac12 now?

  66. Old School Dave June 12, 2013 2:08 pm

    #62 – Jimmy: That’s a good one. You got me 🙂

  67. jimmy the lock June 12, 2013 2:10 pm

Big time schools get so many good recruits that it doesn’t hurt to use an offer on a young gun.

  68. Old School Dave June 12, 2013 2:11 pm

What happened to the player UH offered when he was in 8th grade? Is he still at Arizona or another Pac-12 school?

  69. jimmy the lock June 12, 2013 2:11 pm

Time for ST to do a spammercide.

  70. jimmy the lock June 12, 2013 2:13 pm

    He’s going to Arkansas.

  71. Kevin June 12, 2013 2:55 pm

Recruiting is getting out of hand… 8th graders… An 8th grader doesn’t even know what they want to do for fun that upcoming weekend and football coaches… scratch that.. college coaches in several sports are asking for commitments. Thought it was relegated to football only but there are softball freshmen in high schools that have verballed to PAC 12 and SEC schools.

The competition in college is far exceeding the maturity of the prospects they are going after and you can count on that.

Recruiting in college athletics has become a blood-sport.

Does anyone have Warrior or Hawaii socks? It you do…would you put them on and take a picture in the socks and email the pic to the George Herbert Walker Bush Library. He’s a sock freak…and for his 89th birthday. If you have a chance go look at all the pics. Incredible. But Hawaii needs to represent. We sent our pic in Yale socks. My Mom had on her Pineapple socks. It’s just so cool!

    Go Warriors!
