Quick trip to California includes stop in San Diego, where I ran into Deitre Collins and her team at the Soup Planation near campus. Also spoke to Michele Waber. Asked about her dad, She said his cancer is in remission.

In the future it’s going to be weird to not see Nina when we play Pepperdine. Good news is she will still be coaching sand for Pepperdine….

Talking about available scholarships for next year. Number floating around is six, but may want to consider loss of Croson’s scholarship; that would make seven and who knows that one may have already gone to Passi. So, six may be available. Wednesday should be interesting. Word is we have four interested (2OH, 1MB, 1Lib) and one walk on playing both sand and indoor (Lib). Does this sound about right?
6. tako. The last info I got was the two ds/l Guinasso and Kahakai are walking on. So the girls receiving scholarships and signing Wednesday are Maglio, Huff and Greeley.
I wonder if Hawaii Athletics would announce the sand recruits signings (We only know of Koelsch for now)

Sorry for the duplicate post, I posted in the other thread. Cindy, just a question regarding RPI since people are talking about how the last week of matches will bring Hawaii’s RPI down and may affect seeding. Since the final day of regular season competition is Saturday 11/30, will they do another RPI after these last matches and prior to selection Sunday for the purposes of seeding? IIRC, last year there was no RPI done immediately before Selection Sunday since they usually do the RPI’s on Mondays (unless they get it prior and NCAA does not send it out until Monday). Last year, was Hawaii at 17 RPI the Monday prior to Selection Sunday or 17 the Monday after?
I think they do another RPI right before the selection. If I recall, Hawaii “conveniently” fell to 17 at the last RPI last year.

Will Na Wahine lose on Saturday, Nov. 23rd, with their same exausted lineup, to AVCA Top 25 CSUN? Won’t that make it four BW losses, IF?!
CSUN should exact revenge upon Santa Barbara this UH bye-weekend and still head into the SSC for their one game of the week, after watching UH play the night before against Davis.
And speaking of exacting some type of ‘UH recourse’ against a Davis team which upended them in NoCal.. will it prove to have some type of draining emotional/psychological effect on UH toward their second weekend’s match with the Matadors?

12) According to Dave that is what happened last year.In the last RPI released to the public Hawai`i was 16th.
That mystery RPI right before the selection isn’t released to the public and Hawai`i conveniently was 17th.
I believe he asked for and received an explanation from the committee.
yes, hawaii fell to #17 (from #16) in the rpi right before the tournament last year. but that doesn’t necessarily explain why hawaii wasn’t seeded. at least, by itself, that can’t offer the full or only explanation.
the committee took 2 lower rpi teams (#18 iowa st and #19 kentucky) and seeded them over 2 higher rpi teams (#14 north carolina and #15 texas a&m). being top 16 in the rpi doesn’t guarantee being seeded.
although, i’m sure being #17 rpi helped to “justify” denying hawaii a seed…
Huff is a curious recruit. She is her HS basketball star (although she is quoted as saying there is too much competition at UH and she wants to focus on VB); plays on a team and in a league without a solid VB legacy; and with the exception of Hawaii and Oregon, was not heavily recruited by D1A powerhouses. Her coach has ties to UH as a player. Sleeper? Anyone seen her play or know about her physical skills beyond stats?
In the article she seems like a kid who is goal orientated ,medical school ,wants to be a doctor, play pro VB,wants to get better at VB.
I took her statement about basketball as..she might play basketball but volleyball is more competitive and she wants to get better at volleyball

“other schools wanted me to also play basketball,” she said. “I might do that at Hawaii, but it’s just so competitive there in volleyball, that I want to do everything I can to get better.”
She is your typical Wahine project recruit. Being a two sport athlete she’s athletic which is what the Wahine coaches look for first and coachable second.

All of the 2014 recruits are what I would categorize as projects to different degrees. Kalei Greeley is probably the best of the lot.
Matadors play well at home. Are vulnerable on the road. We need our fans to be in a frenzied state…

Tomorrow morning’s signing will be watched with interest by Wahine fans, as only (maybe) Kahakai would be the only UH recruit. Yes, I’m wondering is there another surprise local signer for us diehards?
looks like a pretty good 2014 class. Check them out on youtube….lots of height and athleticism. On the pepperdine note…hoping wong doesn’t take off. He had a pretty good career in Malibu as a player and coach.
26 wf. I’m thinking Scott Wong is heir apparent to the HC job at UH. Shoji is going to be coaching next year and maybe the following year, then retire if he feels Wong is ready to take over. Right age to go

The signing period is a week long everything might not happen on day one.
Looks like UH did nominate Jade for BWC PotW. However, CSUN’s MB Casey Hinger had a monster (22 kills vs LBSU!) weekend and got the nod. I will be watching that match this weekend since UH has a bye week before facing CSUN next weekend.

Spoke to Casey Olson sports editor of the Federal Way Mirror and he said that Megan Huff just signed her NLI this morning.

Wondering what’s the inside story of Robins-Hardy only getting an offer to play basketball at UH. She wants to play both sports and would have to be on a basketball scholarship anyway. What? no interest and room from the UH coaches for her to play volleyball too on a freebee.
38. LC. Yes Casey’s a guy, well spoken and polite. Federal Way is a small town of 89,000 just south of Seattle and the volleyball followers there are very excited for Megan to play for a highly established, well known successful D1 volleyball program.
hollycow — part of that equation is whether the UH bball coach would allow 2 players on bball scholarship to also play volleyball (since adolpho is still currently on bball scollie as well). i don’t know that answer to that, but perhaps that issue factored in as well. plus hawaii would have had a logjam at the setter position. she may not have fit with hawaii’s recruiting needs at the moment.
she may end up being another one of those local players that got away … but at the same time, hawaii can’t get all the local talent to stay home.
Maybe Robins-Hardy was offered to play both at UH but still chose to go away.
41. All you have said could be true. Adolpho would be a senior next fall so we’re saying only for 1 year Beeman would have two playing volley and a short season for them on basketball. I see it as a quality player like Robins-Hardy can make an impact for basketball and as an OH for volley not only as a setter. What do I know, the BB and VB coaches saw it’s disadvantages and R-H just wanted to go away.
