It was a lot harder to listen to the game on radio than it is to watch in person. Tiff did a great job of getting the heart pumping. I remembered to vote for Emily today, looking forward to the next set of home games. Thank you Wahine for making this such an exciting season.

All of you who wanted ‘more competition in conference matches’ got your wish. I do see the level of the BW rising even from last year and definitely from when LBSU and Pacific were our ‘conference’ rivals. Northridge, Santa Barbara and Long Beach will now be waiting and recruiting against us as will the other conference teams. Future looks great, but I’ll need to watch my heart medications caredully espectally on match nights. Go Wahine! Go Team!

More competition is nice, and the Big west is for sure stronger than the WAC but the wahine are lowering their level of play to the competition IMO. If they played like they did against UCLA/Texas they would sweep every big west team and maybe drop a close set once in a while.

UH site says…With the win, the ‘Bows pull into a tie with the Gauchos for second in the conference.

tremendous effort by the wahine in pulling out their first 5-set match in conference. but ucsb also continued to expose weaknesses in hawaii’s offense and serve receive. i think the adjustments in recent weeks have helped, but there are still lingering weaknesses in serve receive. and in the crunch time, hawaii’s offense just gets too predictable.
these aren’t new observations, of course. but i like that the wahine were able to battle through them.
it was also nice to see hawaii’s block show up last night. that too has been one of the weaker aspects of their play.
another long break, and the rematches with csun and davis … bring it on…

They don’t do long breaks very well.They usually come back out of them lethargic and not to create any bachi I’ll remind you that is was a two week break that started the downfall.
Lets hope it will be different this time around.

LC -The long break before the Texas game worked out ok. However, I agree with you, that break was the start of the slide but downfall is a little strong. We all hope that the lesson has been learned.

6. Hawaii is a game and a half behind UCSB which sits them in sole possession of 3rd place (Northridge 1st at 11-1 & UCSB 2nd at 8-2).

Castillo sat out this year nothing official on why but I spotted photos of her on the bench and it looked like she was wearing a brace. Sure would like to nab that freshman OH on her team Lexi Sun in the future.

who are the new incoming players? simply out of curiosity…?
Week 7 (of 10 conference-season weeks) saw no major upsets, as the conference leaders — Penn State, Texas, Washington, Colorado State, Northridge, etc. — are beginning to assert themselves. Of the Week 7 losses, BYU’s puts them in a tie with San Diego in the race for the WCC crown, while the Big Red’s win over Minnesota might be enough to push the UH up a notch in Monday’s AVCA Poll.
Week 8 will be another story, as the last time the Wahine had a bye week, it helped them move up in both RPI and AVCA. Week 8 is HUGE: USC @ Washington, Missouri @ Florida, Santa Barbara @ Northridge, etc.

Lets remember that even though 7 seniors are leaving, it could only be 6 scholarships. Is Courtney on scholarship? Also, doesn’t mean that Dave will be bringing in 7 players (or 6 scholarship players). One of the open scholarships could go to a current walk on. I think that Mendoza is showing she is deserving of one.

Dave also known for saving scholarships for future use.This is one area of Wahine VB that we could use more transparency because it seems to be important to many. Myself I don’t really care who is getting a ride.

Suggestion for an impromptu potluck Saturday, Nov. 16th. Picnic with AVCA #4, Div.II BYUH too (who also has the weekend off). The spontaneity would be good for everyone.
Hau’ula Beach Park. Lunch time. A large semi-circular reef surrounds the bay and offers amazing snorkeling opportunities afterwards. The south end is a sandy bottom and deep, perfect for swimming. The Ko’olaus, it’s off of Kam Hwy and secluded from people.
One will probably go to passi. As of right now she is not on scholorship but if Dave uses her next year she will be

25. Interesting result given UH’s opponents this past weekend were a combined 23-22. In two weeks, UH’s opponents will have a .700 winning percentage, so with two wins, you hope UH at worst does not fall and may gain. Also remember that UH plays Riverside and Fullerton to end the season. Right now, both have a combined record of 11-35 (.239), so expect UH to drop after that weekend.

Riverside is going to hurt our rpi but we still have a shot at hosting. Texas, creighton and northwestern are helping our rpi.
I’m shocked at RPI #12. What would be a huge 10.0 on the richter (sp?) scale would be on Dec 1 if UH stays inside of 16 after winning out the next four matches with Riverside and Fullerton low on the RPI for the finale. Go figa RIP.

Without Texas we wouldn’t even be close to this rank. Texas honestly was the greatest move this season by shoji. They along with Washington, penn and USC have the best chance at a championship. Missouri is also has a good chance but I honestly think the final two might be Washington vs Texas.

setaone — top 16 seeds are guaranteed to host (unless that rule has again changed).
there’s no guarantee the top 16 rpi will be the top 16 seeds. there’s usually some deviation from the top 16 rpi for seeding.

Cindy, just a question regarding RPI since people are talking about how the last week of matches will bring Hawaii’s RPI down and may affect seeding. Since the final day of regular season competition is Saturday 11/30, will they do another RPI after these last matches and prior to selection Sunday for the purposes of seeding? IIRC, last year there was no RPI done immediately before Selection Sunday since they usually do the RPI’s on Mondays (unless they get it prior and NCAA does not send it out until Monday). Last year, was Hawaii at 17 RPI the Monday prior to Selection Sunday or 17 the Monday after?
