Waianae’s Kennedy Tulimasealii, Aiea’s Ualesi “Wes” Sale and Kahuku’s John Waa were raised on different parts of Oahu and attended different high schools. But they said they’ve become the best of friends.

“We’ve known each other two good years,” Tulimasealii said. “We’ve seen each other at the camps and when we play each other.”

Each committed to UH early.

“John committed first, then me,” Tulimasealii said. “Then we got more and more people. It was a good thing.”

Each held on despite being pressed by other schools.

“My heart was set on Hawaii,” Tulimasealii said.

Waa said: “It wasn’t hard. I made a promise, and I followed through.”

It was a long Wednesday for the UH coaches, who stayed up overnight at their offices while waiting for faxed copies of signed letters from recruits.

Phil Rauscher and Jared Vanderbeek were the fax checkers.

One of the excitable moments was when a basketball coach wanted to use the fax machine. He was shooed away.

* * * * * *

The coaches will meet tomorrow to assess the 2014 recruiting class — and beyond.

* * * * * *

They’re still not done with the 2013 class. There will be two more signings later this month.

    Great Morning All!

    Nice job, Coaches.

Although I’m still a little mystified by the logistics at UHAD. I saw a tweet from someone apparently at a compliance office at an SEC school who said that an NLI received via e-mail was valid. Is that correct? Beuller…Beuller? Anyone?

It’s been several years since anyone at my work place has “stood around the fax machine” waiting for a document; the docs come to someone’s computer and they forward the file to the intended recipient who can print a hard copy if they wish.

  29. Annoddah Dave February 7, 2013 6:19 am

@#25 koakane: right on! Encourage all WB Blog Dogs to come out to the game tonight against da Beech. This team feeds off of our support…the more the merrier!

    Go Rainbow Warriors!

Yeah. Tex A&M baseball cap wearer seemed, well, you know, too. More “baseball-cap-of-school-putter-onner on LOI day” . . . well, we’ve recently seen what fates await THOSE types, yes? Stay off the ‘phone while in school 😉

Hey. If you’re going to do something like that, why even BOTHER to sign up at the local PIAA event is a Grease’s raw opinion. Stay in your boro boro clothes, get thee to a Starbucks (mainland franchise) and skype it.

Good Morning Folks! Welcome New Warriors! Happy Thursday! Exciting times…

  35. Buffoman February 7, 2013 6:36 am

From what it sounds like, it appears that we have two emerging leaders in KT and JW. First, you see honor to commitment, which is very hard for young men of 17 and 18 years when all of the bling and pop gets put in front of them. That is a big deal and people will watch for that. The school has an obligation to assure that these young men also excel in the classroom.

While there may be an NFL future for these young men following their days as Warriors, I for one would like to see their leadership skills develop and their academic prowess also rise as they fulfill their potential as outstanding athletes.

One day, when football is over, it would be great to see these young men then lead in our community as business leaders as they have that one great trait already in hand, honor to commitment. As an employer, I want to hire people like this as they make no excuses.

  36. jeezy33 February 7, 2013 6:49 am

    Howzit, Gang!

Rainy, dreary day out here in Jawjah today. Kinda cold too. But at least we’re not forecast to get 2-3 FEET of snow today, like parts of the northeast!

Anywayz, as Coach Chow said in his presser following the main signing, I am mighty glad to have these youngsters stick with it and sign with UH, despite all of the added pressures of big-money schools’ tactics. These young men and women WANT to represent us, and for that, my (UH) hat’s off to you! Can’t wait to be back home!

But first… gotta fix this dang car again! Hahaha!

You all take care and have a great day!

  42. tom mui February 7, 2013 7:24 am

FAX machines depend on phone lines. If each phone in the athletic office is a separate independent line (i.e. not coming from a switchbox or operator)

each office could have its own FAX machine.

Of course a dedicated FAX line is the best but you can hook it up on a regular phone line.

  43. laulau head February 7, 2013 7:27 am

    #40…

Yup…he’s on the new Warriors list in today’s SA

  44. Annoddah Dave February 7, 2013 7:32 am

@#38 & #42: A dedicated Fax line is expensive because it is becoming “old school” and a lot of offices don’t use Fax opting for Email and PDF media. To pay a monthly land line cost for an infrequent use media for each office is not very efficient. Fax was reduced to only a central office equipment as other media became more prevalent, faster, and easier to read. UH Athletics financial situation is in the red…every little bit counts.

  45. haka February 7, 2013 7:38 am

Maybe they should put in a fax server and scanner so they can do it electronically and they don’t have to sit by the fax. 🙂

  46. Aaron February 7, 2013 7:45 am

Tom Mui is right – fax machines are not hard to come by, but analog lines are these days. however, since Oceanic Cable is a major sponsor now, they shouldn’t have any trouble getting some Oceanic Home Phone modems in the offices to give them additional analog line capability.

  47. PolyMom February 7, 2013 7:47 am

Yesterday was a great day for the Warrior Nation.

Now today is another day with choppers in the air, suspect still lose, giant manhunt. Schools all on lock down. Trying to get the murderer of the Female Basketball Coach and her boyfriend. Of course, cops in Torrance can not tell the difference between Asians and African Americans. How can they shoot two old Asian ladies delivering papers. Good Lord. I’m staying in today. Don’t want to get shot in the crossfire since all they do is shoot first…ask questions later.

  48. Aaron February 7, 2013 7:48 am

haka – there are tons of e-fax services (for sending and receiving as well) that could serve them well, but you know how they do over there. everything is so old fashioned. plus, i guess it’s tradition to “sit by the fax” on NLI day. it wouldn’t feel right to just be able to check your email all day, I guess.

  49. haka February 7, 2013 7:49 am

Good luck to the Rainbow Wahine Softball team as they open the season today!

Excited to see them in action. Go Wahine!

  53. d1shima February 7, 2013 8:00 am

    Aaron,

Actually, it may be moot that UHAD upgrade the fax situation in relation to NLI Day. It’s a Dead Period so the coaches can’t be out anywhere the recruits are anyway…according to the rules! 😉

    Good morning everyone!

    …an exceptionally great morning!

ST — good story about Kennedy Tulimasealii, Ualesi “Wes” Sale and John Waa! A story definitely worth following in the future.

  61. MEET THE WARRIORS February 7, 2013 9:08 am

AND NO MENTION OF TEVITA LATAIMUA? ARE WE DONE WITH HIM?

  62. SteveM February 7, 2013 9:15 am

    RE: #44

Annoddah Dave — yup. Faxes seem so 1990’s. 😐

… says someone who just threw away a 700+ 3.5″ floppy disks and 14 trays in a my computer/TV room cleanup. I feel bummed.

  63. Independent Thinker February 7, 2013 9:15 am

Re: remaining scholarships…save those for a (1) kicker and (2) punter.

Seems like we are pretty good in the other areas. We need to be good in PATs and punting too.

    #59

game may start on time, the other games are at 11, 1, & 3. the #23 Wahine game follows the #16 UW-UAB game. UW also plays St Mary’s at 11, St Mary’s & MIss at 1.

    Wahine play Miss then UAB.

  65. jimmy the lock February 7, 2013 9:22 am

    @d1shima

    Yes, emailing NLI is legal.

  66. Derek February 7, 2013 9:22 am

Chow alluded to several players being “projects”. That means they will be redshirted the first year, or will gray shirt. That being said I predict the following to have the most impact this year among the recruits.1) St. Juste 2) Polk 3) Tulimasealii 4) Henderson 5) Griffin 6) Hill 7) Haynes 8) Washington 9) Barker 10) Higdon. Is Aofaga going on a mission besides Zwahlen?

  67. gobows February 7, 2013 9:25 am

    #61

    everything i see shows KEELAN.

Lataimua was signed earlier with David Griffin, Vasquez Haynes, Julian Gener, and Josh Long. Should have started school in January. and yes, in NC’s interview Lataimua was the player he couldn’t remember/didn’t mention.

  68. jm2375 February 7, 2013 9:26 am

    SteveM – #62 – single sided or double sided? I purchased a box of 10 single-sided discs back in 1984 for $50.

  69. iwonderwhytheyhateme February 7, 2013 9:26 am

    @65,

I’m curious if by “email” they meant the VOIP fax systems that a lot of companies/gov’t use now.

Doubt its illegal if this is what they were using.

  70. jimmy the lock February 7, 2013 9:27 am

Instead of legal I should have said permissible.

    GO WARRIORS!

  75. d1shima February 7, 2013 9:38 am

    TURN DOWN THE VOLUME

  76. jimmy the lock February 7, 2013 9:42 am

    @iwonderwhytheyhateme

Not 100% sure but doesn’t matter on what flavor email is used. As long as the document that is sent is a valid representation (e.g. .pdf) of the NLI.

    Fax is good because:

Just enter phone number and feed your document, simple.

    Legally binding.

You know when your document is delivered (fax confirmation message).

Secure, point to point. No can steal or intercept the little data bits.

Can trace the number where the fax came from, prevent fraud.

    Cool 3-letter word…

  77. jimmy the lock February 7, 2013 9:47 am

    3.5″ floppy…you measure? 😆

Just kidding, we all have measured. hehehehe

    Forgot to add:

    GO WAHINE SOFTBALL!

Good luck to the high school girl’s basketball and boy’s soccer tournament teams.

  78. Derek February 7, 2013 9:47 am

Fangio carrying the bag for Harbaugh as punishment because his defense gave up 3 TDs to Flacco in the first half. Hehe!

  79. Kekoa February 7, 2013 9:50 am

    Goof Morning Tsaiko LOI followers!

I checked my fax machine one last time this morning…empty, tsigh…

  80. iwonderwhytheyhateme February 7, 2013 9:53 am

On VOIP fax’s the sender would be using a regular fax machine on his end, typing in a normal phone number, feeding paper documents.

The only difference is on the receivers end the documents come in via email in pdf format.

  81. redzone February 7, 2013 9:54 am

Go na wahine BB. This is such a huge game for them. They need to stay at least in second place which will give them 2 byes in the conference tourney.

  82. haka February 7, 2013 10:03 am

    yes, redzone

forgot they were playing @ the beach today

    Go Wahine!

  85. haka February 7, 2013 10:04 am

  86. Derek February 7, 2013 10:07 am

I criticized Beeman in the beginning about the recruiting, but she proved to me how wrong I was about her coaching ability. She made me a believer that the Wahine is on the upswing.

  87. haka February 7, 2013 10:11 am

Men’s golf in action on the Big Island today also I see.

    Hit’em straight ‘n hit’em long!

    Go Warriors!

  88. Old School Dave February 7, 2013 10:22 am

Heard on BC’s show that Jason Gesser has been named QBs coach at Wyoming. It was funny to hear BC, Robert Kekaula, and ST express their empathy and feeling sorry for Gesser going from Moscow, ID to Laramie, WY. I guess there’s really not much to do in Laramie.

Craig Stutzman signed 3 local players for Weber State, including that running back from Punahou.

  89. Old School Dave February 7, 2013 10:25 am

Tan-ta-dan kine stuff can backfired. Remember that defensive lineman from Kahuku HS back in 2005, who announced his college decision on national TV after the US Army All-American Game? He put on a Utah cap and said that he was going to be a Running Ute (?? wrong sport). I don’t think he ever made it to Utah due to academics.

  90. SteveM February 7, 2013 10:27 am

    RE: #68

jm2375 — mostly double-sided since I didn’t use my first Mac until 1988. Around $20/box then. That’s why I’m bummed. Fast forward to today — a 4-GB USB flash drive for $5 today holds as much data as 5,000 floppies (2,850 of the HD floppies).

jjmmy the lock — yup, 3.5″ floppy (nominal) 🙁

  91. Chicken Grease February 7, 2013 10:31 am

    # 89, also can backfire via ‘phone calls and not verifying vital things that should be verified. (like actually meeting someone.) 🙂

  92. hossana February 7, 2013 10:37 am

You have to admire and respect John, Kennedy, and Wes for honoring their commitments. It reveals their character and integrity unlike all those wishy-washy 5-star athletes and some local athletes that wavered and altered their decisions. Norm Chow and his coaching staff deserve every plaudit possible so to all you naysayers and critics don’t come out with this crap that it wasn’t Chow but his assistants that did the recruiting…every player mentioned said they liked the coaching staff and named Chow as their main reason for coming here but, to all you critics that will now say what about those that got away..i say to you SHOVE IT!! and don’t talk about, well, how will they play out on the field because every Div.1 coach goes through the same emotional status wondering how these players will translate into quality playing time. Please give credit where credit is due and don’t give me crap, like all those negative blogs during last season, saying nobody will want to come here and the program is heading in the wrong direction. Chow needs quality players and he just didn’t have them this past season to fit his system and couple more recruiting classes and we will see consistency in the team’s performance on the field. Just be patient.

  93. SteveM February 7, 2013 10:40 am

3-Prong & Old School Dave — do you remember the “tan-da-tan” discussion/meaning/origin by Da Punchbowl Kid on the blog years ago? First time I saw it. Brings back memories.

3-Prong — did you post under a different blog name in the past?

  94. kitsunegari February 7, 2013 10:41 am

You tell em Steve! Thats right, you tell em! We dont need negative comments. You tell em Steve.

  95. jimmy the lock February 7, 2013 10:53 am

    I thought was tantaran?

  96. kev-1 February 7, 2013 10:55 am

#11 . . . any chance you get, yeah? Leave em alone already.

Celebrate the guys we have. They are great. Nevermind bagging on the guys that leave. You guys are ripping on kids for being tantadan, but kinda bullying them yourselves. Why can’t we be proud of a local boy recruited to A&M as part of the best WR class in the country instead of wishing him luck that he hopefully see the field, suggesting that he won’t get any playing time?

  97. dannyp February 7, 2013 11:00 am

Everyones waiting to pounce on 100 lol

  98. Annoddah Dave February 7, 2013 11:03 am

@#95 jimmy: Yup, you right. Google “tantaran” and you will link up with Lee Cataluna’s research and review of its origin.

While were on the topic, where did the term “bumbye” or “bombai” come from?

  100. jimmy the lock February 7, 2013 11:05 am

Nice day to bask in the recruiting news, no!

  101. jimmy the lock February 7, 2013 11:09 am

    @Old School Dave

I know that is used in the Philippines by Tagalog speaking folks.

  102. Old School Dave February 7, 2013 11:13 am

Thanks, Jimmy. I thought it might be from the Philippines.

  103. Kaimiloa February 7, 2013 11:14 am

Bumbye = Bye and bye = in a while

  104. Annoddah Dave February 7, 2013 11:14 am

@#99 old school: My inkling is that it is the “pidgin” version of “by and by”.

    pidgin evolution

Yesterday was a great day for the Warrior Nation.

Now today is another day with choppers in the air, suspect still lose, giant manhunt. Schools all on lock down. Trying to get the murderer of the Female Basketball Coach and her boyfriend . . .

This situation is simply koo koo. Apparently, disgruntled ex-cop, had a website manifesto, no? Blamed others for his dismissal. He seemed to take it Hollywood w/all the drama.

    What’s with these LA cops?

supposedly CSFU WBB assistant coach Monica Quan’s father Randal Quan, a former LAPD Captain and Cal Poly Pomona Police Chief turned attorney, represented Christopher Donner before a board of rights that ended with Donner’s termination from the LAPD in 2009.

  124. Manoa Mist February 7, 2013 12:51 pm

Grease: maybe the ex-cop was wronged. They said he reported his training officer for kicking a suspect and he was fired for making false statements. LAPD is famous for this kind of stuff. Abusing suspects and covering up the evidence. You ruin a man’s name, ruin a man’s career unjustly and who knows what someone is capable of – even killing innocent folks.

  125. WarriorMojo February 7, 2013 12:58 pm

    Re #124

So, are you just really that dispassionate? Maybe I’m wrong, but you seem to be empathizing with the “ex-cop”.

  126. jimmy the lock February 7, 2013 12:59 pm

C’mon now, let’s not group all L.A. cops together based on this individuals actions.

  127. NotNasti February 7, 2013 1:02 pm

Murdering your attorney’s daughter? That’s a cold and cowardly act.

  128. gobows February 7, 2013 1:07 pm

Manoa Mist could be right…losing a job over a false statement…that’s manini compared to some of the other “above the law” acts committed by LAPD officers…so maybe there’s more history behind the alleged murderer.

    Re #128

Does that justify shooting innocent people? Seriously?

Are you guys suggesting that it is okay or understandable to kill INNOCENT people just because bad stuff happened to you?

We’ve gone from “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” to “people don’t kill people, unknown bad stuff happening to unknown people for unknown reasons kill unknown people.”

  138. Haleakala February 7, 2013 2:27 pm

Keelan Ewaliko is a special player. He is the only 3 time Maui Interscholastic League offensive player of the year. He is also the only player in league history to lead the league in passing, rushing and scoring in the same season. He is the reigning state 200 meter dash champion.

Last year, he surprised Farrington in the state football playoffs by running for and scoring a last play touchdown to win the game. He is one of a great class of recruits.

  139. NotNasti February 7, 2013 2:34 pm

    138. WarriorMojo:

I don’t think that is what GoBows said. He just thinks that there must me something more to it than simply being discharged for making a false statement. He’s not condoning the killing of innocent people.

It may be something as simple as is being reported in the news. Going out in a blaze of gunfire glory is the new American “soup d’jour” (unfortunately). Unhappy with your parents? Shoot as many people as you can. Unhappy with your boss? Shoot as many people as you can. Nuts!

  140. DoubleB February 7, 2013 2:39 pm

@138 anything can set someone off… Maybe that was the last straw… Maybe not. The act was not justified by any means but everyone has a breaking point. It’s all speculation on all sides until all the info comes out. This reminds me of some people who decided they knew everything regarding The Te’o incident. I’m sure there is still more to tell in this case.

My girls school was on lock down. But say a little prayer for the two innocent old Chinese ladies who the cops shot by accident. From what my hub said, the ladies were actually shot in Redondo Beach. Not Torrance.

I’m just happy we got a great recruiting class. We have so much to look forward to. I feel like this year with USC so deflated…we can BEAT SC! If that happens…I’m buying a round at Murphy’s for the Tsaiko Nation! Now I need you all to find out who we call and write to…so their Tommy Trojan does not stick his sword on our field or logo. I think sticking his sword on our field is a psychological game. This is the first year that UCLA told them they were not allowed to stick their sword on their logo at the Rose Bowl. And the Bruins beat their okoles. Now we need to demand that pur field is OUR field…not THEIR field. They can stick their sword up their you know what! We need to be more aggressive fans in the stands. Cow Bells, anything that can make noise! I’m so excited for the season to start!!!

  165. Annoddah Dave February 7, 2013 4:04 pm

@#162 polymom: What was worse was the USC band playing and playing after the game and not letting the UH band play the alma mater. After about 7-10 minutes, Coach Jones told the Warriors to head to the locker room. That was really classless and on our home field.

  166. haka February 7, 2013 4:08 pm

“Unfortunately, I will not be alive to see my name cleared. That’s what this is about, my name. A man is nothing without his name.”

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, so that’s how you clear your name…..

  167. Former UH Athlete February 7, 2013 4:22 pm

Love it… Chow and Co. are already planning for 2014. That’s how to build a program. Great coaches always looking forward, never backward.

I’m now 100% confident UH is in good hands. Wins will come soon.

I still stand by my early, early, early prediction of 6 wins in 2013. Expect Barker and Kirkwood to make impact at some point in season.

2014 is still on track to be the breakout year for UH. I think UH has the potential to get over 7 wins next season but things would have to line up just right (schedule, assimilation of new players, injuries, QB play and O-line & D-line play).

  168. Abunai February 7, 2013 4:47 pm

Grease: maybe the ex-cop was wronged.

Are some of youse defending him . . . under the mere assumption that he was “wronged”? Entire LAPD review ways and means decided to pick on THIS guy? Yeah, likely story.

A Grease shouldn’t have to say, (no one should) but, you don’t go around killing people just because you’ve been falsely accused. He of all people should KNOW that, to state the obvious.

His actions, therefore, validate LAPD’s finding on him. He needed to respond sanely if he knew he was truly wronged, again, to state the obvious. Cops aren’t exactly “unprivy” to who the best defense lawyers are; he needed to go visit one.

Let’s not kid ourselves. A bunch of you on this board like to lie to yourselves often, yes? “Oh, I believe, I believe.” Learn to question, think critically.

    Thank you.

Yah that’s my point. They feel (USC) that they can do anything. Funny folks made so much fuss with this Manti thing. Not like he sexually assaulted women like Mark Sanchez, Matt Lineart. I just need ONE win. Then my Thanksgivings will be better. Let me say this…the BIG mouths on my hubs side of the family are very quiet. Heck I had to get the service that tells us on our TV who was calling as I was so upset every time we have to play USC I have to listen to so much crap. Everyday was a beat down. But this Thanksgiving I wore a Johnny Football jersey to make them mad. I just read another USC player was arrested for grand theft, and several other charges.

  174. Derek February 7, 2013 5:09 pm

Is this the year USC is ripe for being upset, on national TV, on the road, against the Warriors? You gotta believe Hawaii. The last time Bob Hogue said that on his sports news in 1989, UH and Garrett Gabriel beat BYU and Ty Detmer 56-14. It was unbelievable.

It’s an exciting time for Warrior Football! I’m a huge Norm Chow fan. So classy. So humble. He and his wife have raised great kids. His son, who was my daughters teacher in the 9th grade is so inspires her even today.

Even with the horrible season we had last season…we scored STAR recruits. You know how hard that must have been? When I talk to Calen even he is excited for the possibilities of the NEW Warrior football program. Change is coming to Aloha Stadium. The building up of this team is exciting and refreshing. And academics has gone way up! We are so proud that Calen made the Deans List. Now, he wants to do it again. It feels good to succeed and reach a goal! Positive reinforcement and showing up everyday makes winners. I want all these kids to feel like WINNERS!!!! Both on and off the field.

But we need our fans in the stands to make noise and help the football team get back on track. I’m very excited to see Taylor Graham this season.
