Held up by red tape

Former Warrior defensive back Richard Torres and Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn are top candidates to join the Warriors as graduate-assistant coaches in January.

The holdup, as with most things involving UH, is the procedure.

While a GA has the same financial value as a player — scholarship that includes tuition, school expenses and a monthly stipend — in the view of the school, it is considered a job. And like all campus jobs, HR and other departments are involved. If Bill Parcells decided he wanted to be a UH GA, well, please fill out an application and bring proper ID and references.

This year, the NCAA granted schools up to four on-field GAs. The Warriors have three — Inoke Funaki, Daniel Bukarau and Jared Vanderbeek. Oliva Vea is a graduate assistant in the video department.

Funaki fulfills the NCAA limit of three seasons at the end of this semester.

UH also is expected to create a fourth position for an on-field GA.

His left wrist is puffy but not broken, and thus tight end Ryan Hall is expected to play in Saturday’s season-finale against South Alabama.

Quarterback Sean Schroeder, who has experienced back spasms, will resume practicing today.

Always red tape, especially when dealing with Manoa!

    Howzit, Gang!

Richard Torres has such an infectious personality. If I didn’t know better, I’d think my wife was smitten by him! After we first met him following a Georgia Force game, she kept repeating how awesome it would be for our oldest daughter to meet him! Hahaha!

If last week was a glimpse of what may be…

With lots of hard work off-season, and more “gelling” between QB and receivers, etc… next year may be a real fun year! Can’t wait to be back home to take it all in!

Congrats to the Wahine & Coach Dave!

Hawaii junior hitter Emily Hartong was named player of the year and Dave Shoji shared coach of the year with Long Beach State’s Brian Gimmillaro when the Big West Conference awards were announced today.

Joining Hartong on the 16-member first team were junior setter Mita Uiato, sophomore hitter Jane Croson and freshman middle Jade Vorster.

Vorster was also named to the all-freshman team. UC Santa Barbara libero Taylor Formico was named freshman of the year.

The Big West did not selected a second team.

Cal State Northridge junior hitter Mahina Haina, an ‘Iolani graduate, was named honorable mention.

A Rainbow Wahine has now earned conference player of the year honors for the past 18 seasons, dating back to Angelica Ljundquist in 1995. Lundquist was the 1995 Big West player of the year and the 1996 Western Athletic Conference player of the year.

This was the 13th coach of the year honors for Shoji, the winningest active coach in Division I women’s volleyball (1,102-183-1).

Hawaii opens the NCAA Tournament Friday against Santa Clara in Seattle.

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:

I think the whole UH administration is a bit “gun shy” of late. Since College Hill is not being used, why not have one of the deans or chancellor use it. UH is paying to keep it “warm” even though it stands empty.

in all fairness…those of you who were throwing schroeder under the bus should at least man up and applaude his efforts in the unlv game.

he did show that when given the time and some open receivers he is the best we have at delivering the ball on time. there were about 4-5 catchable balls that were mishandled too. otherewise his numbers would have been glorious.

…and besides i’ll bet that none of you would be still standing after the beating he took (again).

  22. Shoko November 27, 2012 9:20 am

Yep, Schroeder is definitely tough dude and shows alot of grit.

  23. kev-1 November 27, 2012 9:25 am

    al,

Although I don’t consider myself as throwing him under the bus, I am one who wanted a QB change for ineffectiveness. And yes, I did applaud his performance and said positive things about him after the game.

Yes he has taken a beating. And yes he played much better. He looked fresh and seemed to be throwing better. But I do still think that he holds on to the ball a bit too long in some situations. But much props to him for how he rebounded.

Back spasms? Those suck. I have had that before.

And NO. I would not be able to stand after taking a beating like he has taken. But then again, I am not a collegiate football player with pads on either. So the comparison is irrelevant.

    Better?

  24. Former UH Athlete November 27, 2012 9:29 am

Man, I had to look twice… I thought I saw we had a serial killer (or once famous actor) on the GA roster for a second.

  25. Bryson November 27, 2012 9:29 am

    Al,

I give credit where credit is due SS had a decent game and yes there were catchable balls that were dropped but there were also about the same amount of possible int’s that were dropped by UNLV players so in all fairness Iets look at all aspects of the whole game…

  26. Shoko November 27, 2012 9:30 am

In addition to BE’s invite to Tulane and ECU, BYU was also offered an invite but was turned down.

  27. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2012 9:30 am

Skippa Diaz’s presence had an impact. He was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer a couple of years ago and he had a heart attack a couple of months ago. But he’s defied the medical odds. The man is inspiring.

I’ve told this story before, but one year Bob Wagner had an extra scholarship. He called Skippa and said he could give it to any Farrington player he wished. Diaz chose Randall Okimoto. Okimoto played a little at UH, but more importantly, earned a degree, then decided to go back to Farrington to teach and coach.

    Circle of life.

Skippa understood that better than anybody.

  28. DoubleB November 27, 2012 9:31 am

I have gone to every home game and the QB play is less than stellar. Schroeder holds on to the ball too long… And he does miss open receivers. The D played very well. Grimes was impressive on one play he made up alot of ground on a screen to stop what would have been a huge gain.

  29. Shoko November 27, 2012 9:32 am

    WAC adds Grand Canyon University.

Grand Canyon will become the sixth member of the conference in 2013-14, joining California State University, Bakersfield; the University of Idaho; New Mexico State University; Seattle University and Utah Valley University.

  33. gobows November 27, 2012 9:40 am

#27 okimoto was exceptionally strong, way stronger than strong weightlifters. believe he easily benched over 4 plates (405+), that would make him the strongest on recent warrior teams.

  34. Former UH Athlete November 27, 2012 9:40 am

    Shoko,

What?!? Grand Canyon is joining WAC? Holy crap… Maybe University of Phoenix is next. Or maybe ITT.

The WAC just needs to be abolished already. The only hope for the WAC is to merge with C-USA, but the C-USA probably doesn’t want 2/3 of the WAC schools.

    RE: No 28 DoubleB,

Do you feel others on the roster can perform better than SS? I think with the pass protection and route running(getting open), SS has done all that we could ask of him…..He does hold it long, but that maybe due to other things he sees on the field that we don’t…

  37. Shoko November 27, 2012 9:46 am

    30. Grand Canyon University has an enrollment of little over 6k students. So, could go either way (DI or DII).

  38. haka November 27, 2012 9:47 am

Skippa spoke of representation. Family, school, community and state. And as he demonstrates daily, to never, ever, give up. You felt his words like his handshake…strong and from the heart. When he speaks, he always makes a difference.

  40. DoubleB November 27, 2012 9:54 am

@ 36 Maui warrior: I said QB play is less than stellar… All QB play. Don’t get me wrong the WR have dropped their share of balls but there were opportunities for interceptions that UNLV missed. I love and support the team but I can hardly wait for Graham and Woolsey.

  41. DoubleB November 27, 2012 9:55 am

And when Schroeder has time he uses every second… To a fault. He is tough though.

  42. Shoko November 27, 2012 9:59 am

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has filed a lawsuit against Maryland seeking full payment of the $50 million exit fee for announcing a move to the Big Ten.’

This sounds like the typical protocol when a conference loses a member. It’s similar to when the WAc filed a lawsuit against Fresno State and Nevada when they said they were bailing.

    Good Morning Gangeez!

I think the underlying message is to believe in what Coach Chow and staff are building. It will come together if we stick together. It will not come without bumps and bruises, but the road to success will be paved if everyone stays on the team bus instead of throwing people under it.

  47. Shoko November 27, 2012 10:07 am

  49. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2012 10:13 am

Growing pains aren’t always pretty, but I think a player’s best years are as a junior and senior.

To see the young guys on offense get so many reps against good competition will only help in the future. Take Blake Muir, for instance. His footwork is improving, and he’s catching up to the speed of game. You can’t simulate that in practice. He’s not there yet, but he will be very good. It took Adrian Thomas four years to get that kind of game experience. Muir is getting it as a freshman in his second year at UH.

  50. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 27, 2012 10:14 am

I’d like to see this huge TV deal that the Big LEast is supposed to get.

Of the 13 members, 9 are former CUSA, 2 MWC, and 1 MAC…I guess their value was absurdly undervalued in their former conferences. (-_-)

Oh must be the magic mumbo jumbo vodoo in the name of a conference that gives the teams higher value. Can the MWC just buy the PAC 10 name and get a billion dollars in TV deals? Sounds good to me.

  51. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2012 10:15 am

Trouble with Twitter is there’s no nah-nah-nah button. On Facebook you can delete or edit. On Twitter, the Kardashians can’t take back what they tweeted.

  52. Shoko November 27, 2012 10:19 am

    51. True.

Didn’t notice, but GCU’s men’s volleyball is the only sport that plays at the DI level.

    #27 – Stephen~

    Re: Coach Skippa –

Had the pleasure and honor of working with him a couple of years @ Farrington a few years. Simply put, what a magnificent human being. Had the handshake (think of your hand being crushed by a glove of stones) and the priveledge of his friendship. We were blessed to be able to put together a highlight vid for his team which won the OIA East – a team which included former Governor/Rainbow Warrior/Steeler great Taase Faumui. All the players got copies of the vid, and were very grateful and humble.

The only thing bigger than Skippa’s body was his heart – he taught special needs students as well as being a devoted, hard working and talented Coach. A truly great guy, the perfect one for the pep talk last Saturday. I am sure his words resonated with the players and the essence of Coach Skippa was evident in the Warriors play.

  66. Pomai November 27, 2012 11:30 am

OK my 2¢ on SS, what I have noticed is that when he stays in the pocket his completion rate is not to good, but when he scrambles to either side his completions come up quite a bit, so maybe he needs to have more designed roll outs.

  67. Old School Dave November 27, 2012 11:38 am

Skippa Diaz is one of a kind. When he was the HC at Farrington, if he heard of any of his players being “lured” or hassled by gang members, he would personally go to Mayor Wright or KPT to have a “talk” with these people. Result – end of problem.

  68. Old School Dave November 27, 2012 11:41 am

Glad to hear that Blane Gaison (80) cleared up some misinformation regarding the Senior Walk and gave credit to Nelson Maeda (79) who originated the season ending ritual.

No need to throw anybody under the bus…

    SS has one more game.

Then it’s Taylor or Woolsey… Chances are, SS will be #3 behind those two.

And if our Oline improves, he will remain there through graduation.

    Annodahdave:

yep, would be great to see “College Hill” used by someone as a residence, but unfortunately, it is the designated residence for UH President.

What really galls me is that we pay MRC over $400,000 clams a year and she still asks for and receives from the “dummy” UH BOR as extra $6,000 monthly allotment for living in a high rise luxury condo in Waikiki – reportedly because her “partner” is in the wheel chair.

How stupid is this arrangement? Why can’t she use some of her $400,000/yr salary for housing expense. Damn, how many of us must dole out mortgage payments from our monthly salary/income.

Read with howling laughter how a particular gentlemen blasts the Senate hearings as a direct tool to “damage” the reputation of MRC Greenwood claiming she was not responsible for the “wonder blunder” – someone blamed her directly? or, was she blasted for her responses to questions posed by committee members that caused the up-roar?.

  71. madeinhawaii November 27, 2012 11:49 am

SS don’t even have to graduate, come to think of it.. unless he really wants his masters… he might even opt to transfer to another Uni to finish up his degree. But then, he does have a scholie… medical retirement, anyone?

  72. Warrior Dave November 27, 2012 11:54 am

On the Sports Animals show yesterday, Reggie Torres said son Richard was headed to UH as a Grad Asst. he was also on Bobby Curran’s show and I think he said the same thing.

    Wise decision by Coach Chow.

  73. Former UH Athlete November 27, 2012 11:58 am

    #50,

that big money TV deal for the Big East is not there anymore. They have no chance now with Rutgers leaving to the Big 10 in a few years and Syracuse is moving to the ACC next year. The schools aren’t great football programs but are important for conferences for TV revenue because they are in the New York/New Jersey TV markets. With those two schools leaving, there’s no more NY/NJ tv market (the largest market in the US), therefore the Big East loses it’s biggest negotiating piece in the tv deals.

The Big East picks up San Diego (SDSU), Southern Florida (UCF and USF), Boise (BSU), and a sliver of the Dallas market (SMU), but all of these combined don’t add up to the loss of the NY/NJ market.

Let’s put the SS did great taunt from DPK to rest.

Everyone did a good job this past game, and that is why we won. Hats off to all the young men, and old men, of the UH football program.

Good playcalling, good running by Iosefa, good blocking, good D. Everyone played better this last outing.

  80. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2012 12:16 pm

If Wynn is approved he would be a GA.

Like I’ve said nobody is approved yet. Red tape.

  81. Independent Thinker November 27, 2012 12:20 pm

As for QBs, truth be told, Higgins played three quarters at high elevation, in near freezing conditions, so considering the conditions under which he performed and how he performed, I would say he did a hell of a job.

I’d like to see Higgins play three quarters at Aloha Stadium before we make comparisons of the type being suggested by DPK. Right now, it’s an apple and an orange comparison. Compare and apple and an apple, not an apple and an orange.

We saw shroeder play three quarters where everything was clicking – decent blocking, running, catching, playcalling – and where conditions where ideal, not up in the mountains, in near freezing temperatures, at the Aloha stadium, and the UH won.

I’d like to see Higgins play three quarters at the Aloha S, in these same ideal conditions (basically, minus the high elevation and the difficulty breathing problem and minus the freezing hands and frozen football issue), before comparisons are made.

  82. madeinhawaii November 27, 2012 12:29 pm

Isn’t the Big East about to lose their AQ status? If so, what would be the benefit?

true he holds on too long. it is a given and known fact. at least he isn’t abandoming the pocket prematurely and he is willing to take a hit for the team. i am sure twenty years from now in the schroeder household sean will be showing highlights of all the hits he took here in hawaii and how he stood up each time to his kids.

much can be said, but, he is the best we got this year.

oh, i am also on that same bandwagon of “wait til next year”.

oh, i am also thinking taylor graham. drooling as i speak.

oh, i am also looking forward to woolsey in the future.

oh, i am also dying to see aaron zwhalen as well.

however, for now i say, ss is the best we got, go with it. back him up brothers.

    …nuff said

    IT –

The difference between you and I is that I don’t see our posts here as a “you and me” thing, nor do I see the QB situation as a “SS is the best and only QB situation”. I think Higgins did a terrific job too, I have mentioned his “spark” in many previous posts. I was merely making a statement about Schroeders’ grit and durability and concurring with other posters here.

I trust the coaches to make the decisions about all starters, plays etc., etc. I’m not second guessing anyone or calling out players or coaches. My job as a fan is to support the team, and you can read many posts of mine praising the team on both sides of the ball.

Don’t put words in my mouth. Your words are yours not mine, and you have plenty to say. As for confrontations – I aint playing. You’re free to do what you want. You have your own way of “thinking”, I have mine.

  88. kev-1 November 27, 2012 1:00 pm

    al,

I agree that we should just roll with him already. But, what do you mean he has proven it the past TWO games? He played well on Sat., but played pretty poorly when he came in last week.

  89. kev-1 November 27, 2012 1:01 pm

OH wait, Al, nevermind. You said the past two games are evidence. I understand your point. My fault.

  90. madeinhawaii November 27, 2012 1:02 pm

I like how the plays are being mixed up lately.. More of everything else squeezed in with the pro set stuff. Takes better advantage of the players we have. Mike Edwards on Offense? Who’d a thunk that would happen, eh? Again, taking advantage of your existing talent.

Defense did a bang up job stopping 14 of 15 third down conversions and put points up on the board, as well. Special teams scored big time, too.

While winning was great.. being competitive every play of the way was an even better feeling.

I think the biggest improvements were on Defense and Special teams and that’s what sparked the Offense. Let’s hope the fire doesn’t go out before the season ends.

College Hill underwent a very costly upgrade at the end of the past UH President’s tenure.

Currently, the house is used for VIP receptions as the entire lower floor is dedicated to holding UH functions. The upper floor has the housing functions. The upgrade changed the floor plan of the residence so the housing was one floor only (upper). I am not sure of the total cost for these changes.

Although I find the housing compensation package for the Office of UH President to be questionable, the building is not ADA compliant. That was the big brouhaha over putting in an elevator in the upgrade; keep the historic quality of the building or change the building to accommodate an elevator and come into compliance with ADA for access to the upper floor.

  94. Manoa November 27, 2012 1:20 pm

Schroeder’s performance was due in large part to Chow– grooming him, yes, but on Saturday, tailoring the offense to him– put him in shotgun and pistol instead of undercenter giving him more time and better view of the field to make his reads, spreading out the offense to spread the defense and make the blitz easier to read, using four and five receivers in the passing game to give more targets and open receivers in space vacated by another receiver drawing a defender away. Changing the receiver’s routes to open them up and give better angles. And giving Schroeder more of a running game to call, including plays to the outside– even using Edwards to run wide, all of which forces the defense to play honest on running plays instead of waiting for the run up the middle.

  95. madeinhawaii November 27, 2012 1:22 pm

College Hill? Over the past 8 years it has cost UH 2 million dollars or $250,000 per year… AND another $72,000 in housing stipends for MRC to live in an Condo.

ATTENTION RAINBOWTIQUE AND/OR GAME WORN JERSEY AUCTIONEER:

It is smart to end the bidding on a Sunday. It is absolutely NOT smart to end all auctions at 8:00 p.m.

If I miss out on #1 game worn because someone snipes me at the last second, I might bid on the non-game worn #1, but no can since it would have also ended.

Also, I may be bidding (or trying to snipe) game worn #1, game worn #41, game worn #42, game worn “97 and game worn #99, but I can’t monitor all of them if they all end at the same time.

  97. madeinhawaii November 27, 2012 1:36 pm

Right now there is a lot in common between JD and College Hill. Both cost UH over $200K a year… both are for marketing purposes… both currently, however, seem to be simply occupying space. (Nothing against JD..I really like the guy… I hope he does well.)

Mih – there’s a lot of costs involved in the upkeep of a historic home. The Girl Scout Council office was in the Waterhouse property in Nuuanu for about 15 yrs, but in the end, it couldn’t keep up with the expenses. For a property as large as College Hill, $250K may not be unreasonable.

  102. madeinhawaii November 27, 2012 2:01 pm

    Reser Stadium.

Typical college game day atmosphere. Not much parking close-by. The last time UH played there we parked in a field – that would be UGLY if it had rained. The tickets we had were up in the corner; and I do mean up. Sun was on us the entire game. Wood or metal bleachers I do not recall. Just that my butt hurt after awhile.

Definitely you will want to car pool if possible.

Crowd is nice. No alcohol inside. Halftime crowd rushes out to drink then re-enter at 3rd quarter. You can take in a filled water bottle — WITH A CAP!

  132. hossana November 27, 2012 5:46 pm

Before talking about who you want for QB etc….what UH needs desperately are LINEMEN…..big, physical, agile, linemen that can move and block….that was their biggest weakness this year…yeah, everybody blamed the QB for this ‘n that but the line was the biggest weakness and I think the coaches recognized this and had better get their okole in recruiting tough, physical players that can play on the offensive and defensive lines….the previous coaching staff was definitely negligent, I repeat, definitely negligent in recruiting and developing linemen and the new coaching staff had to do with what they had and injuries on the offensive and defensive line did not help, either…….

  133. madeinhawaii November 27, 2012 5:50 pm

    hossana,

Historically, we groom our linemen we don’t reload… so that means if they aren’t already here, they won’t be ready by next season. Maybe one or two backups from the JuCo ranks to fill in the depth chart, but starters? Only if we are extremely lucky.

The Reser crowd is much quieter than Autzen, and the facility has no character. It’s like a metal high school grandstand, except bigger.

Being an Oregon Duck ticket holder, I have just not been very impressed with this stadium or the noise of the fans. Just always suprised how fans 30 miles away can make so much more noise. Go Ducks!

Only passed thru Corvallis once in mid-October on a non-game day. The weather was cool and clear that morning.

I’ve been to a few other games in OR in the fall and in early September and chances are pretty good that an afternoon game will be hot and sunny.

We may be going up for the game but will likely stay on the coast or further up the Yamhill Valley (North on Hwy 99) and take our chances driving in on game day.

  149. azwarrior22 November 27, 2012 8:33 pm

I won’t vote for the Heisman; none of these guys play for UH. That’s like me voting for someone from ASU or UA because I live in Arizona. Unless they play for the home team, I don’t really care. Manti plays and represents Notre Dame and if I’m a Notre Dame fan, then I would care. But I’m a UH Warrior fan, so don’t care.

13 total, or 13 after the commitments already given?

  153. Shoko November 27, 2012 8:46 pm

Doesn’t really matter if Manti or whoever wins the fan vote. As I said, its only one point and Manziel is way ahead of the polls. The online vote tells only one thing, and thats who won the popular vote in the online voting poll.

  169. RS November 27, 2012 10:14 pm

    Old School Dave,

Looks like i’m late to the party.

Wafan pretty much covered everything. Reser is about the same size as Aloha stadium in terms of capacity, but the crowd a heck of a more active. You shouldn’t have to worry about heckling. The student section runs primarily from about section 114 to section 120, although i’ve seen students fill in seats all the way to the visitor section. Expect metal bleachers with nothing to lean back on. Visitor seating is in the off in the corner of the stadium. Here’s a link if you were curious.

    http://www.calbearsonline.com/cal_bears_football_files/pac-12_stadiums/pac-12_stadiums_seating_charts.html

Parking is horrendous. The stadium capacity is roughly equivalent to Aloha stadium, however the parking lot is significantly smaller. I would say less than half of what Aloha has and you need a permit to park there. The majority of the campus visitor parking is on the north end of campus. Check Monroe ave or the intersection at SW 30th st and Jefferson way. I think parking is $10-$15 there, but i’d bring $15 just in case. There are closer parking lots, but they get a heck of a lot more expensive.

You can look for people selling parking at their house. Check around the intersection of SW Western Blvd and SW 30th street for anyone selling parking. I’d bring at least $40 and you need to be there early (~2 hours or more).

The campus is about a 10 min walk from one end to the other. If you park early and you are looking for something to eat close to campus, head to Monroe ave on the north side of campus. I’d highly recommend Local Boyz. Get the shredded chicken and kalbi combo.

If you’re still driving, Aomatsu on SW 3rd street has good sushi, but it’s expensive. Also, i’ve heard Big river restaurant and bar is good. If you like or want to try Indian food, Evergreen on SW 3rd st is good.

Notre Dame fan or not, Manti Teo deserves that trophy. His story and his play have lifted my spirits all year.

You know a Grease . . . I . . . you know, you want a Grease to be sorry about it, he’ll oblige . . . but . . . you know how like Kenobi sensed Alderan exploding? The many voices crying out all at once? It’s akin to how a Grease sees this guy, I dunno. In all likelihood a Grease might be wrong about what he thinks of a Teo.

But, know that at least one ningen had more than a hunch this guy goes in a direction the lot of youse didn’t see. Just from those two or so caps in front of him on signing day. Just. Hemingway (and, yes, a Grease counters this with Teo’s use of an overused Dumas quote earlier this year) said the truth has a certain ring to it.

A Grease doesn’t hear that ring when it comes to this guy.

  172. kev-1 November 27, 2012 10:47 pm

3-prong . . . yes. If Mariota continues to play the way he is, he will definitely be in the conversation. I’m actually surprised that he wasn’t mentioned more for it this year.

Grease, you lost me on that one. But if I understand you correctly, you’re not really feeling Te’o. Eh, to each his own. You’re entitled to your opinion . . . I guess. 😛

Johnny Football ain’t gonna be runnin around like that in the NFL. He had a great game against Alabama but Manti’s been doin it all year. What more is there to say?

A grease is wise to think twice about the true colors of a certain ND star. Maybe his college experience has given him the maturity he needed. His field work has certainly qualified his being in the running…but there’ that true character thing that popped up during his recruiting visits. Makes one hesitate…(What?…he’s a mere Mortal?!).

    Good luck Man!

I got all the respect for Te’o but I don’t think you can say he deserves the trophy. If you look at stats and stats don’t lie. CJ Mosley from Alabama has made more solo tackles, more sacks, more tackles for loss. Only thing Te’o has better on him is ints. But look at this point. Mosley all year doesnt play as much mins as Te’o. So if Mosley play as much as Te’o does you have to wonder what he would have as in numbers. I know he is a heck of a player. Te’o that is. I mean no disrespect to him or anyone in hawai’i. As I live in hawai’i also. I like how he plays with heart and authority. He plays 110% with a nasty demeanor. He respects the game of football. That’s what I’m proud of. Hes showing all the mainland guys up there how we play the game of football and it’s all intense…..

    South Alabama travel plans:

“One group of players and officials will depart from Mobile’s airport, with others leaving from New Orleans’ airport and still others beginning the long travel day from Pensacola’s airport. They will all fly to Houston where the team will unite and continue the journey to Honolulu.”

    After losing to the Warriors

“Most of the South Alabama party will begin the return home following Saturday’s game, which begins at 10 p.m. CST but at 6 p.m. local time. A few will begin their return Sunday morning while some are remaining in Hawaii for an extra few days (recruiting). That list includes head coach Joey Jones.”

In Texas watching my nephews and nieces play volleyball and football. We realized why these Texas kids in high school are so good. Practice for football goes until 9 at night. Been sitting in the stands watching these boys for two nights. Man, they are monsters! Expect another Friel to come to UH. Or that’s where he wants to play. Now that I brainwashed him to come home and be near his Tutu. But don’t get excited he’s only in his second year of high school. But we could use a few of these BIG Boys on the O Line.

    Go Warriors!
