We were given our first set of green jerseys in 2009 based on the previous design.

Then the design changes slightly last season. The green jerseys tonight reflects the design change as the black and white ones so … 2nd green jerseys.

Getting a scholarship doesn’t guarantee you playing time. Scholarships are also renewable on an annual basis.. however, at UH, the program usually does not strip a player of his scholarship unless there is a very serious infraction. A player on scholarship gets most of his expenses paid to attain an invaluable college degree while committing to put 100% effort into playing football whether they get to play in a game or not.

Regarding a situation whereby a new coach uses various techniques and behaviors to force a player (or players) to give up their scholarship(s)… I don’t think NCAA rules allow this. Scholarships are contracts.

New coaches applying pressure to players to transfer or quit so they can get their scholarship and award it/them to someone else has happened. A class action suit was filed in June or July against a new coach (and perhaps the college) who — it is alleged — did exactly this. It may also be alleged in this lawsuit that the coach also threatened the player by saying he would not give a recommendation to the school the player wanted to transfer, but if the player left quietly, the coach would give a recommendation.

I don’t know the status of the case. It was filed only a few months ago.

I don’t think it is difficult to prove in court that a coach by his actions has forced a player to give up his scholarship or that the coach threatened to destroy the player’s chance to play for another school if he didn’t leave quietly.

What amount of $$ awarded in this lawsuit (should it be successful) is what I think many will be following this case to see. If a substantial punishment award is made for such behavior by its coach, the college is going to be mighty upset and it might deter coaches from doing this.

A Grease should know that without a doubt, kev-1 will be watching the game today. I will be watching the Warriors pick up a much needed win. And you too?

‘re my #106 post… my apologies, I was off base. I just found the lawsuit on the net.The player is suing the NCAA == not the school or the coach. The reasons for the lawsuit are different. Old coach made promises, old coach told player he could intern during the summer. New coach comes in and disavows what the previous coach told the player, new coach does not renew the player’s scholarship, new coach kicks him off the team.

Actually, with no class. QB shows up to practice and finds his locker cleaned out. This was the starting QB. Sorry I was so off base on the grounds for this lawsuit. I read this over a month ago so today’s memory was not so hot. At least I was right about remembering it was a new coach situation and a class action lawsuit

Gee, when no other school besides hawaii cared to recruit this guy, he plays as a true freshman, goes on his church mission, and all of a sudden he wants to attend byu. doesn’t make sense at all. wouldn’t he serve the church better by being away from byu. after all how many church members go to provo utah for their church missions.

Tough road games and sporadic home games in the first half of the season. Really a disconnect with fans at home, on top of losses.

Really gotta turn this around.

Opposing teams don’t even need QB’s. If I were an opposing coach game planning for Hawaii, I would convert a RB to QB for the game and run it 100% of the time.

ST-#29 from Fri. post. The kid K. Gonda from Kaiser, is the younger brother of the former RB Josh Gonda who just left UH. The kid is a beast and is getting tons of attention from mainland schools. UH invited him to some home games, but don’t get to excited! Don’t think he’d ever consider playing for Chow and his staff after the way they treated his brother. The coaching staff led the kid on until the first day of school and then cut him. Not even giving him a chance to find another home.

However, Josh and former UH CB Jaloni Williams are now playing for Santa Monica JC in Cali, and are both doing extremely well!

Good Luck Mr. I. Armstrong (DB) on your release and transfer. I’m sure you’ll find a program that appreciates you. Keep your head up! I can’t help but feel that this is the beginning of an exodus of many players to come that either don’t fit Chow or K’s system, or are just not being treated fairly! What a shame!!!

I like the Point ‘N Shoot offense. It usually is full of excitement.

It was a good game minus the first quarter! So, I am happy that things did improve as the clock ticked away. I really appreciated the heart of the team to keep plugging away.

Schroeder needs to be benched. He doesn’t go through his progressions, hones in on his intended target, and his ball tends to float. Not to mention he’s slower than a sea slug. He’s got heart, I’ll give him that. But heart can only take you so far. He tried, he gave it his all, and that’s all that we can ask. It’s time to get someone else in there.

Kaumayer needs to remember that he’s not scheming for the NFL, he’s scheming for the college level. Granted, our defense has been decimated with injuries, but his game plans against option teams are downright ludicrous.

The good news: The students showed up. Their section had decent attendance.

The bad: The coaches. Seemed to be too myopic in their game planning. Stayed within the box in their approach to winning. Thought the assignments in who had the QB and who had the pitchman was screwed up. Too many times they seemed to have one man defending both.

New Mexico game planned outside the box. Threw more passes in the first quarter than they had in their two previous games combined. With our corners playing man on the wideouts there were a lot of 9 on 9 football and some 8 on 8 when NM spread a 3rd receiver wide. Made it easier for them to run their option. They could count on not having our corners in any type of run support.

I wanted to believe in Schroeder.

I wont give up on the Warriors but my sons team can execute better than this team. Even though we probably wouldn’t have won at least at the end there was some hope. However, two offensive penalties later and game over! I’m totally serious if 12 and 13 year olds can execute it why can’t these young adults???

Question the play calling. So far, every game they start off with passes when the premise of the offense was ball control, smash mouth football. Three and out, New Mexico drives for a TD. 2nd Q: UH, 4th and one inside the New Mexico five, they run a straight dive for no gain. Couldn’t they have run off tackle or Gregory around the end? At least fake the dive and do something else. What is troubling is that this is too reminescient of the Von Appen era of mediocre, predictable play calling.

What happened to Gregory? Rips off two impressive runs and by the 4Q is never heard of again. Injured? The other back rushed about 30 times and took a lot of pounding.

Finally, Schroeder has his shortcomings but probably is the be QB for Chow’s offense. However, having said this, Chow needs to put in his no. 2 because if Schroeder is knocked out of the game, the no. 2 won’t be totally lost. And Chow being the QB Guru, doesn’t mind that Schroeder has a slow release and stares down his recievers? Yes, he’s a decent passer if given time…but three minutes? (joking).

Half way into the season this is looking like the return of the Von Appen years. Remember? He took a team that came off a mediocre season and made them worse also.

on the play where the qb ran 76 yards unscathed to the end zone…several of our glaring shortcomings became evident on that one play.

one, the dline got pushed around by the bigger, stronger, and faster oline of new mexico. thus, creating a hole so big even my grandma could have run through without being touched.

two, our db’s and if i recall correctly, three of them, were unable to chase down the lobo qb who quite frankly was a sprinter.

it showed that as a defense we are too small and not stout enough on the front seven. we are not fast enough at the linebacker and db positions.

the aforementioned sticks out every week.

we are getting beat on defense not because we lack effort and not because of coaching either. we just don’t match up as a team physically.

Yes it appears that way. It’s a bit disappointing that our defense was supposed to be the core of our team this year but it has struggled just as much if not more than the offense.

Preseason hype/analysis isn’t worth much.

IDK what all of you are talking about?? chow and staff have gave up on this team this year! they are trying to bank on recruiting with the “we have had the most new starters this season in all of college FB wit a bunch of young guys, u can start too”. Why is it in the fourth quarter chow goes to the shotgun (what this team was built for) and we move the ball with ease?? Every QB i seen this sat had the ability to run. Put in graves he takes one guy out of coverage and can run like a gazel! I can honestly say this Chow HATES graves!! its not his recruit not his style of play! but he gives us at this moment the best chance of winning! Schoeder is Ok at best I seen some plays where he could have run if he was a runner and gained 20-30 yrds or we could have the play action with the ability to run with QB

what can the defense do if they always on the field?? was the first Quarter like 13min to 2 for NM??

Re: 528. If I recall, the left-side defensive end (I won’t use his name) bit hard on the dive only to find that the RB was empty-handed. I would think the DE’s responsibility would outside containment, but I could be wrong. So no one had the QB because the corner/nickel had the pitch man. Once the QB turned upfield through that gargantuan hole, he was gone … even if it seemed like an eternity for him to reach the end zone. Noticed how he protected the ball because he knew he’d be caught from behind. And it was that DE, along with the corner/nickel who were giving chase. Hardly a fair race seeing as how they spotted the QB about a 15-yard head start! A major breakdown in defending the option, which the defense seemed to have corrected after the first quarter.

Looks like the super duper extreme freefaller (is that a word?) is getting ready to break the height and, hopefully, sound barrior.

Chow defintely looks and sounds like a emotionally defeated man. I mean, he sounded like this in previous losses, but he seems to be at wits end this time around. I detected alot more frustration and anger after this loss. Not good.

How do you cure the dropsies? Not just dropped passes but fumbles, as well. If they can’t fix those issues it doesn’t really matter what else they do on the field of play; they’ll always be providing the opponent with more opportunities to score than they have.

Some of the coaches last year would give explanations at the Na Koa lunch of what could have been done better; you needed to ask about specific plays. I can’t go to the lunches now, so don’t know how these new coaches present game info. Coach Chow seems to be the “hold-the-cards-close-to-the-chest” kinda coach. He didn’t provide much info at the Na Koa lunch on Sept. 3rd.

Dropped passes and fumbles can be psychological.

Got to wondering about what I was hearing on ESPN1420 last night…

Lots of should’ve been caught passes. Lots of overthrown passes. A couple of wrong routes ran. Bunches of dropsies again too.

I can understand Coach’s desire to keep going with the one QB that has the most grasp of this offense, and wanting to use that as the basis for bringing everyone else on offense onto the same plane, so to speak. But, constantly locking onto one target, overthrowing balls, not putting enough zip onto swing passes/quick outs, etc., not seeing/reading defensive coverages right and throwing right to DB’s, and as many mentioned… not giving opponents a taste of possibly taking off if given a huge lane to a first down… how is all of this helping a struggling offense gain the proper experience (and motivation) in system?

We go to a slight hurry-up against Reno, and actually move the ball.

We run hurry-up last night, and all of a sudden, everyone’s more focused and doing their respective jobs… and we’re productive!

There’s something to be said about these instances. Plus, we gas opposing defenses by going hurry up too. So, why not keep at it?

Anyways, gotta give the younger boyz a hair cut… army style. Laterz.

Wonder if Grave’s is in Chow’s doghouse. Something is amiss between those two.
