Game day: SDSU

Two admittedly struggling teams get to face off in this renewal of what was once an intense rivalry.

The focus will be on the defense, where both teams have made adjustments to scale down schemes.

Former UH linebacker Adam Leonard, now married and living in L.A., will be leading the Warriors’ chapel service this morning.

    Gooooooo Warriors!!!

  2. wafan October 6, 2012 5:16 am

Too bad about the AKA resignation. I understand his position, though.

It is the best time to make some plans for the future and it is time to be happy. I have read this submit and if I may just I desire to suggest you some attention-grabbing things or tips. Perhaps you could write subsequent articles relating to this article. I wish to learn more issues about it!

  4. kkobi425 October 6, 2012 5:18 am

Game day! Good luck Warriors. Hopefully we turn things around today.

    Wafan ~

    You stay ‘classy?’

Let’s hope the boys are very offensive!

  6. wafan October 6, 2012 5:20 am

Folks would have been upset with the $200k loss. And rightly so.

But the foolishness since then really knocked the rust off and set the wheels in motion. Hopefully there is positive change (just keeping in a Grease’s desires) in leadership. Really not too certain RF is the answer. Is he part of the problem? Is he too connected and considered to be an untouchable?

  7. wafan October 6, 2012 5:21 am

    kkobi . . .

I get class all week! Weekends, though, are a different story.

It’s Football Saturday at my house. The day started at 8:30 a.m. PT with the Air Force-Navy game. The Commander in Chief’s trophy is the prize.

The black stealth bomber uniforms for this game are awesome as are the silver helmets with stealth bomber logos. Impressive.

The Air Force scored a TD on its first drive. The commentators have already said that the Falcon offense is very strong. Now it’s Navy’s turn and we will be able to see how strong the Air Force D is.

Well, the D is pretty strong. Navy offense had the ball momentarily. Now it’s back in Connor Dietz’ hands. Go Falcons!

The game is predicted to be close. Look for #7 on the sidelines — a grandson.

  9. AZWARRIOR22 October 6, 2012 5:23 am

Top 10…let’s turn it around and give SDSU a beatdown. Go Warriors !!

Probably the most stupid question of the day . . .

Why not make one more appointment to the Pro Bowl committee and call them the Pro Bowl 5-0? Can think of some interesting marketing strategies.

49? Are we moving the Pro Bowl to Alaska?

Will be doing a lot of channel changing during the game. Notre Dame Miami then UW Oregon at the same time as the UH game.

  21. mo808 October 6, 2012 5:30 am

helencalif, I’ll be watching for your grandson! Go Falcons!

  22. helencalif October 6, 2012 5:33 am

No player names on the Air Force jerseys — they are either F-22 Raptor or B-52 Spirit.

Both teams are “military lean” and in excellent physical shape. They are playing at 28 degrees at Colorado Springs altitude. Snow is expected during the game. I don’t think the cold and snow will phase the Falcons.

UH plays Air Force on Nov. 16 so this game is worth your watching.

  68. Garret October 6, 2012 7:34 am

I can’t wait to see the Warriors today in person! I hope for early offense for UH–teams can move the ball against them as long as they avoid turnovers and penalties.

    My wish list:

Early score by the UH offense

UH gets enough of a lead to quiet the SDSU fans

SDSU’s speedy receivers drop open TD passes like they did in other games this season

Happy fireworks show for the UH fans at the game

    Things will be bad if:

UH has any injuries on the OL or DL

SDSU’s powerful running game with 2 excellent RBs (and a mobile QB) gets rolling

UH isn’t careful with the ball-SDSU’s D really takes advantage of turnovers

SDSU’s receivers worked with the JUGS machine and catch the ball reliably

  69. Garret October 6, 2012 7:37 am

Georgia State came up with an interesting way to get their students to go to a football game…drop $10,000 on the students. If UH did this it could be pretty brutal in the field.

Letting students fight it out over $10,000 in vouchers … what could go wrong?

The school says that up to 400 Georgia State students will be on the field grabbing as many envelopes, which will contain money vouchers of various denominations that can be redeemed at Georgia’s Own Credit Union, as they can. The envelopes will be dropped from the rafters to the field.

    #56. D1shima…

Not all cadets are going to the AFA to be fighter pilots. I know one though who wants to fly… #7 who is just the right size to fit into a fighter cockpit.

He’s already had the chance to be at the controls of a glider and he loved it.

    Proud grandma.

I read that John L. Smith made some risky business investments when the recession hit.

  78. Shoko October 6, 2012 8:04 am

Unless, its changed recently, minimum standing height requirement for a fighter pilot is 5’3″ and the maximum weight is 240 pounds. So, you won’t see any 300 pound linemen being accepted into flight school.

  79. NYUHTX October 6, 2012 8:07 am

    d1shima:

Just hope they don’t throw out the bushel with the apple. UH worked hard for some autonomy and wanted to be able to raise money without it going to the HI general fund.

Having said that, I have no experience with this current UH administration.

  80. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 8:08 am

Kev1, thank you for yesterdays BJ Penn update!

… and it’s great that the DC will change-up/scale down the schemes. i always felt us getting blown-out was due more to schemes (assignment/alignment) than personnel, not saying we wouldn’t have lost, but we wouldn’t have gotten dismantled/bust-up so badly.

    GO WARRIORS!!! GIVE ‘UM HELL!!!!

I have come to accept that this year’s season is going to be very bad. I had high hopes, but now realize that overcoming a system change is not as easy as I had assumed. With that said, I am excited that we will be starting so many young guys. It will be great for the future that these freshmen get playing time. It bodes well for seasons to come.

I am still confident that the heart of this team will emerge and get us some wins.

  92. Ralph October 6, 2012 8:28 am

Shoko, why can’t a lineman qualify to fly a galaxy or globemaster cargo plane, or a huey helicopter. Is the academy for fighter pilots only, or is it the restrictions of the seats that mandates size requirements.

  93. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 8:32 am

    Howzit, Gang!

    Looking forward to today’s game.

Been so busy lately. Haven’t had time to go grocery shopping for a package of the ever popular troll snacks… so… nothing here to feed them.

  95. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 8:40 am

Wafan… watched part of the first half of the UH-Reno game so far… we actually did pretty good early on… score is Reno 20, UH 17. Had to make lunch for da little ones.

Liked that we used a slight hurry-up on offense with lots of quick passes, to get our second TD. But Reno’s offensive tempo is crazy. Easy to get gassed and make mistakes. Will continue watching as time permits. Still lots of things to do today, before listening in on our game with San Diego State too.

    Mahalo again!

  96. Shoko October 6, 2012 8:41 am

    92. Nope, the Academy is not for fighter pilots only. The physical requirements I stated above are for fighter pilots. If cadets don’t meet those requirements, they could certainly fly cargo, refuelers, AWACS, etc. The weight requirement for fighter planes is because of the egress system (ejection seats). Height restrictions is based on rudder pedal adjustments in certain fighters.

Good game for Navy. Feeling a little more confident that the Warriors can beat AF now.

  97. DoubleB October 6, 2012 8:46 am

Here’s to doing better today in SD. Can we get Ron Burgundy to do Color for today’s game?

  98. helencalif October 6, 2012 8:47 am

Congrats to Navy on their win. Oh well, they said it would be a close game and it was.

Time to switch channels to the AZ-Stanford game. My eyes will be on Stanford’s #8 Jordan Richards — a great young man who has fantastic supportive parents. Tall, good looking, soft speaking, very respectful, a leader. He was a natural for Stanford (scholastically as well as for football). He was 4.0+.Jordan was a receiver for my grandson at Folsom High School. A thrill a minute when he was on the field.

Watch for him if you can… Stanford #8.

  99. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 8:49 am

Got a younger brother and my baby sister still in the Air Force. There are lots of officer positions that do not involve flight training…

    Medical,

    Intelligence,

    Weather,

    Chaplain,

    Research (Science),

    Law,

    Logistics,

    etc…

I’m sure there are more, but you get the idea.

Every branch of service has similar positions. (One does not join the Army or Marines solely to be an infantry or tank officer, or the Navy solely to be the skipper of a boat, for example.)

    GAME DAY!

    GO WARRIORS !!!

  110. Matt October 6, 2012 9:02 am

    DPK,

Sorry, I did not attend KS-Kapalama. I went to public school in Hawaii and I’m living in NorCal for at least the next couple of years. I’m actually an SDSU alumni (have a graduate degree from there), but I grew up a UH fan so I gotta cheer for the Warriors today.

  111. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 9:05 am

Saw Ryan Hall in the lobby a few minutes ago. He and Schroeder have to make a class presentation today. They tried to send the file though the iPhone, but it was too large. So now he’s Skyping while holding up the iPhone. It’s a picture within a picture within … never mind.

    Mr. Matt,

Did you earn your undergraduate degree at UH-M? Or did you attend UH-M (or any of the UH campuses)? :D.

Interesting casino. It was for 18 and older.

  114. gobows October 6, 2012 9:07 am

#96. preseason, i had no reason to believe the warriors could not beat csu and the afa. now, on the road in the mountains, the warriors don’t have a chance to make it a close game. bright side of it, i probably got empty seats in my row for the rest of the year (no stupid drunks going back and forth stepping on my feet).

  115. d1shima October 6, 2012 9:08 am

    270# Fullback for LSU!

  116. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 9:08 am

He had a Duke sticker on his laptop.

    I said: Duke?

Then he pointed out it was Duke Alumni Association.

Then I realized, I’ve never seen a UH Alumni Association sticker. Do they make those?

  117. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 9:10 am

I think a sobriety test should be for someone to walk a stadium row without falling onto someone’s lap.

Or to walk down an airplane aisle without bumping somebody’s head.

  121. Chicken Grease October 6, 2012 9:13 am

    Mr. Tsai,

Is it “favorable for Warriors” playing weather up there right now?

[serves Mr. Tsai 100% Kona coffee]

Heh, Bud Light TV ad with Wonder’s Superstitious playing during commercial break of LSU vs. Florida game right now. Hope doesn’t similarly play during UH vs. SDSU game, eek. Ugh. The irony.

  122. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 9:15 am

“struggling” is a very nice way to put it for Hawaii.

Let’s hope we seem some improvement. I think I hear an echo.

    Great weather.

    Beautiful day for some football.

Or, as coaches like to say, the game of football.

  127. Old School Dave October 6, 2012 9:31 am

Warriors need to sustain their blocks, line up correctly, and tackle better – enough of this arm tackling.

    Chicken Grease,

I have never attended UH. I used to attend UH football games with my grandpa when I was a kid. I have been a UH fan ever since.

  130. kev-1 October 6, 2012 9:39 am

Hall and Schroeder need to take the perspective of the 3rd string QB from Ohio State. He tweeted . . . “Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL classes are POINTLESS.” What a great representative of THE Ohio State University. I wonder what his grades look like. If he’s passing, he better buy his tutor something nice.

Why fo they gotta play school when they came fo play football? Presementations fo classes are pointless. That aint why fo they came here.

  131. Matt October 6, 2012 9:39 am

    SteveM,

I’m still at TRACEN. I’ll be there until 2014.

I hope there is an “H” right next to the Duke sticker on that computer.

  133. sports for fun October 6, 2012 9:42 am

When Coach Chow said that he was going to convert the offense to a pro-style attack. My personal opinion was that I didn’t think it was a good idea. Tomey used it and Von Appen tried it. Not very good results for the offense. The so-called “gimmick” offenses, as people like to call the run-and-shoot and the spread, always had success here. To me, they are not gimmick offenses because the football rules allowed those type of offenses to be used. Many arguments for using the “gimmick” offenses versus the “pro-style” offenses. I prefer the “gimmick” offense any day over the “pro”.

You should have posted the video where the whole thing is said. 🙂

  136. Old School Dave October 6, 2012 9:46 am

Need to remember that in Bob Wagner’s first season running the spread option, fans were also calling on him to scrap it after UH went 5-7. Many thought that this “strange new offense” wouldn’t work. Things started clicking the next season, with UH going 9-3.

Congrats to both Wahine teams on their wins last night!

Some rules for UH fans today, both at the game and at home:

❗ Cheer loud, proud and clean ( 😀 ), esp when UH is on defense

❗ Support them all game long

    ❗ Stay positive.

❗ Ignore the trolls!!! If we starve them, they’ll go away.

It wasn’t hard to figure out he was going to the game…his wife had a green UH shirt on and he had a #81 UH jersey on.

I have a little longer with my family at home and then I get to head out to the stadium…

  145. SteveM October 6, 2012 10:28 am

The lead story in today’s Star-Advertiser talks about the special BOR meeting next Friday regarding Greenwood’s job. It’s game day and I only mention it now since it is the headline today. “Golden Parachute” Greenwood has already gilded and packed her own chute well. What would be the cost of firing her?

Man. More football games need to be like Stanford vs. Arizona game, today.

Can’t stand his voice, feels like a car salesman trying to make me buy through 4 quarters) saying, “oh, LSU still controls their destiny.” Man, what they got available to announcers to smoke in that booth in Florida’s stadium?

Let’s start directing + + + positive thoughts + + + to the Warrior football team same as how X-Wings were focused on that first Death Star. You see it? Visualize it? Not to mix decidedly sci-fi references, but direct these + + + POSITIVE THOUGHTS + + + as Dr. Charles Xavier does to communicate with mutants all o’er the world via Cerebro; indeed, imagine each Warrior with similar genetic gifts to help them win through.

  209. wafan October 6, 2012 1:44 pm

    Why is 1420 so behind?

    About 1-2 minutes.

    Feels like a time warp.

    Geez.

  210. d1shima October 6, 2012 1:46 pm

    D4mn it

  211. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 1:46 pm

  212. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 1:46 pm

    The game announcers stink

  213. Warrior Dave October 6, 2012 1:47 pm

3rd and long and we rush only 2… Mistake.

  214. Chicken Grease October 6, 2012 1:48 pm

+ + + POSITIVE THOUGHTS + + +. Aztecs just scored, this OK, OK? Should be expected home team get first TD.

Direct those positive thoughts — Warrior defense doing some good.

  215. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 1:48 pm

Read option O, gonna kill us again. DC need crash course in defending that.

  216. d1shima October 6, 2012 1:50 pm

Wow…Longhorns come all the way back

  217. greenthumb October 6, 2012 1:50 pm

214 btw thanks, without your post we would have missed the first half hour.

  218. d1shima October 6, 2012 1:51 pm

    Sudden change…Warriors Respond

  219. d1shima October 6, 2012 1:53 pm

Pretty much helpless against any jumbo package

  220. HiFlyer October 6, 2012 1:55 pm

Are we running a 4-3 or 3-4 defense.

  221. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 1:56 pm

    Hawaii sucks!!!’ Chow Sucks!!

  222. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 1:57 pm

  223. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 1:58 pm

    stutz is a stud

  224. d1shima October 6, 2012 1:59 pm

  225. Chicken Grease October 6, 2012 2:00 pm

    Stutzmann is back! Warriors gradually gaining . . . keep up those + + + POSITIVE THOUGHTS + + + , DON’T let up, Hawaii fans.

  226. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 2:00 pm

Chows’ stuck in the 60’s with his predictable play calling.

  227. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 2:01 pm

    Art Laurel is down.

  228. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 2:02 pm

“Fear the Spear” is the big slogan here.

They really need to start selling replica spears.

  229. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 2:02 pm

Here we go again! Mac’s coaching staff way better then NC!

  230. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:02 pm

Pop quiz: What team from the 60’s opened up its first two drives with a pass?

  231. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:02 pm

We need a play on Defense turn this shit around! Captains need to step up

  232. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:03 pm

  234. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:05 pm

  235. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:05 pm

    NICE!!!

  236. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 2:05 pm

All the more reason why we should’ve selected Koetter.

  237. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:05 pm

    hey we got a sack!!!

  238. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:05 pm

    Finally getting home!

  239. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:06 pm

    nice job warrior d

  240. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 2:06 pm

    Looks bad for Laurel.

  241. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:07 pm

ok, chow-fun. put some fun n gun in that O

  242. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 2:07 pm

We gotta have three years with this crap?? This is embarrassing!!! I feel bad for all the warrior football players. Bet they wish they went away to the mainland now

  243. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:08 pm

Hittin’ it like ya mean it!

  244. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:09 pm

D showing 3 and 4 man fronts. O showing the multiply formations including the pistol. nice

  245. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:09 pm

I don’t see why we can’t go deep. We can beat em deep

  246. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 2:09 pm

Chow has no ‘O’. I think the Alzheimer’s starting to gradually kick in for him.

  247. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:10 pm

Come on RB’s…ya gotta block, too!

  248. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 2:12 pm

Fans can’t use the excuse that Mack recruited poorly….coaching problem is what the problem is…

  249. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:12 pm

u need a line to throw deep, wr’s who can run deep and a qb who can throw deep, to go deep

  250. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:13 pm

We can throw over the top.. Hang in there

  251. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 2:13 pm

Got the talent but poor coaching and game planning! Now running the pistol in which Graves would be probably the best. What we didn’t bring him? SS is so slow a tortoise may out run him. Doesn’t NC know if you run the Pistol you need a mobile QB! Going be a long day for UH!

  252. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:16 pm

Did Graves make the trip? Hope Laurel is doig better

  253. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:18 pm

not sure about Graves making da trip, but yeah, prays that Laurel is ok

  254. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 2:19 pm

SS sucks! Floats his passes! NO Zip! He will be picked soon! Hopefully not for a TD! Looks the receiver all the way! Who the hell is the coach needs to fixes this very glaring habit of SS.

  255. Hilo-Warrior October 6, 2012 2:19 pm

Hey this Hilo-Warriors wife. My husband is at work and is missing the game, but I was trying to record it from online. Anybody know where the game is online??

  256. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 2:19 pm

    Prayers for Laurel.

  257. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:20 pm

    🙂

  258. obachan October 6, 2012 2:20 pm

    Couldn’t find it anywhere online

  259. helencalif October 6, 2012 2:20 pm

You will not be seeing Graves in this game. I just learned Chow did not put him on the travel roster.

Sorry, I am a bit upset. This young man gave 3 1/2 years of his life to UH football. Chow has put his football career into the toilet.

  260. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:21 pm

    21-0 SDSU

  261. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:22 pm

we make every team look like a top 10 team!!!! Nevada, BYU and now SDSU

  262. Hawkpeter October 6, 2012 2:22 pm

I’d pay for it if I could but I can’t buy it anywhere http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/145315/1/watch-hawaii-vs-san-diego-state.html

  263. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 2:23 pm

Sorry bout that Helen…graves deserves to be playin more than anyone…Chow definitely needs to go..don’t know anyone else could think otherwise…

  264. NinjaWarriorTurtle October 6, 2012 2:23 pm

It’s not the line. There is no zip to the offensive scheme. Schroeder is standing back there looking for an open receiver. He should have already thrown, but the wide-outs on the out patterns are covered. Where is the tight end? I looked down at my laptop and in the meantime, Katz runs for 34 and a TD. Anyone want to buy tickets for the Boise St game?

  265. NYUHTX October 6, 2012 2:24 pm

Hate the lack of names on the uniforms, especially since the SA is slacking on the rosters. At least the poor players are not being blamed as much for the poor performances.

  266. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:24 pm

bummers Graves didn’t make the trip.

  267. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 2:25 pm

Guess Kaumeyer hasn’t figured out how to coach in college! Opposing QBs are running the defense ragged. No offense – no defense! Gotta pray to a higher power to help UH!

  268. cruisecontrol October 6, 2012 2:25 pm

This defense is still struggling. Reminds me of what another San Diego State running back named Marshall Faulk once said: “like playing against air.”

  269. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:26 pm

267 agree abot the names on back, i have a laptop with the website to the uh roster open

  270. BigHiloFan2 October 6, 2012 2:27 pm

    Howzit Tsaikos.

    positive thoughts. positive thoughts.

  271. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 2:27 pm

    This is wonderful

  272. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 2:27 pm

259 -It is on TV 1247 CBS Sports

  273. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:28 pm

There’s absolutely no reason why there can’t be a change at QB. None

  274. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 2:28 pm

    Yay Warriors Yay!

  275. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 2:29 pm

    Bighilo,

Really? Positive thoughts??? You really think any fan is going to be thinking positive thoughts after the way we’ve been playing today and the past couple of games? No. I don’t think so..we all know it…Chow needs to go

  276. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:29 pm

    yes flag on SDSU

  277. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:30 pm

    nice job D

  278. mo808 October 6, 2012 2:31 pm

Okay, now if we could get some O going….

  279. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:31 pm

nice return and covering the ball harding!

  280. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:31 pm

    Aussie Rules

  281. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 2:31 pm

The guys in the bar have forgotten what it’s like to clap. Lol

  282. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 2:32 pm

Players are probably confused as hell…”Red Zone!!?!”

  283. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:33 pm

    What no challenge?

  284. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 2:34 pm

Offense please help the defense tonight…

  285. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:34 pm

    TD!!!

  286. NYUHTX October 6, 2012 2:34 pm

cruisecontrol: I remember that game. MF had some 258 yards rushing.

  287. obachan October 6, 2012 2:35 pm

@275 Chow has stated that his coaching philosophy is that no QB change once the decision is made.

  288. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:35 pm

260, so sorry to hear that.

  289. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:36 pm

BS call, that was a td

  290. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:36 pm

    Bullcr$p!

  291. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:37 pm

    290. chow is stubborn old man.

  292. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:37 pm

Oh no another player down. On a play that didn’t have to happen, that looked like a TD.

  293. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 2:37 pm

WTF, get your asses in the muthaf–kin endzone… how much closer do we really need to be god damn!

  294. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:37 pm

    Whew

  295. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:38 pm

    TD !!!! nice job guys

  296. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:38 pm

    TD!!!!

    😀

  297. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:38 pm

    TD

  298. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:39 pm

Oh geez, the replay looks clear.

  299. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 2:39 pm

Are you serious right now, did a miracle just happen???

  300. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:40 pm

290 – tough sell to a potential recruit

  301. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:40 pm

the drive started with great D, then chow using the pistol much more.

  302. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 2:41 pm

Just noticed the UH band is here.

  303. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:42 pm

303 – as opposed to “get your peeps to flood the blogs with hits favoring you and we will let you play”

  304. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:42 pm

must be a quiet band or they forgot their instruments

  305. Chicken Grease October 6, 2012 2:42 pm

    A TD.

How we doing, positive-thinking Warrior fans?

  306. obachan October 6, 2012 2:43 pm

Score, whew! that was like Chinese water torture – not scoring. Please no drip on my face again!

  307. BigHiloFan2 October 6, 2012 2:43 pm

    Matty

    positive thoughts positive thoughts.

  308. Chicken Grease October 6, 2012 2:47 pm

    + + + KEEP UP THOSE POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!!!! + + +

No “stubborn old man” or “WTF”.

    + + + POSITIVE THOUGHTS. SEE MANY HAWAII TOUCHDOWNS!!!! + + +

  309. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:47 pm

    Spear the Spear

  310. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:47 pm

    So close

  311. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 2:47 pm

If we are going to live and die with only Schroeder this season, than I am going to extremely lower my expectations this year. Cause I highly doubt this guy will get us any quality wins at all. Maybe South Alabama we can win but other than that, somebody better be praying hard… Anything more than a 2-10 season, I’d say we got lucky…

  312. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:48 pm

    JHT. No look good

  313. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:49 pm

The Spears have WR’s with long arms

  314. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:49 pm

    Too many neck looking injuries.

  315. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 2:49 pm

    YAAAAAAYY!

  316. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:52 pm

    28-7

  317. Chee! October 6, 2012 2:52 pm

    #260 Ditto ;(

I’m hoping for the best but reality is…reality – and its painful…

Loss is a loss BUT, at least compete!

  318. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:52 pm

Tavita woodward looks good so far.

  319. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 2:53 pm

I feel sad for the players! We are totally out coached!

  320. Postmanke October 6, 2012 2:53 pm

If I’m Schroeder I have nothing to worry about then. Nobody will take my job ever! Good concept!

  321. greenthumb October 6, 2012 2:56 pm

    2 consecutive solid plays

  322. NinjaWarriorTurtle October 6, 2012 2:56 pm

Schroeder just made a great play on the flea-flicker.

  323. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 2:57 pm

John Hardy-Tuliau — concussion. Out for the game.

  324. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:57 pm

it not positive thoughts that got the warriors O moving, its the O scheme changes. some of us called for it back after the Nevada game.

  325. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 2:57 pm

My positive thought would be that if I knew I was playing against Hawaii, I would circle that date cause I know I could make a highlight reel and have my best game against them because they sure know how to make you look like an All-Star! Could probably set some records and make myself look like a Heisman candidate! Especially if I was a running back, I’d be salivating at the chance to boost my numbers on the year against Hawaii.

  326. Chicken Grease October 6, 2012 2:57 pm

Need to see a bit more + + + POSITIVE POSTS + + +. The negativity is affecting the Warriors’ game.

    Stutzmann

    Davis

    See how positivity works?

  327. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 2:58 pm

u also see some Ace formations out there. lol

  328. d1shima October 6, 2012 2:58 pm

    🙁

  329. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 2:58 pm

Yay.. finally something to put on the highlight tapes!

  330. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 3:01 pm

Chow is an idiot! Going for 4th and 11!

  331. obachan October 6, 2012 3:02 pm

    Oh MY Miah!

  332. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:02 pm

SDSU is going deep on us trying to get some easy scores…

  333. greenthumb October 6, 2012 3:04 pm

339 if they get sloppy we get a pick 6

  334. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:04 pm

Yay, good job guys, SDSU beats themselves to help you out and then you still f-ck it up, amazing!

  335. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:05 pm

pick 6, yeah right you gotta be kidding me…

  336. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 3:05 pm

Another blunder by UH w/2 minutes to go!

  337. obachan October 6, 2012 3:06 pm

Tuliau out and you attempt to block the kick – are you kidding me coaches??

  338. d1shima October 6, 2012 3:06 pm

    Nice job Phillips

  339. d1shima October 6, 2012 3:07 pm

    Getting home a little better

  340. greenthumb October 6, 2012 3:07 pm

345, no quit in that guy!

  341. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:08 pm

Hope our “exceptional D” can play that way the whole game but wait the offense isn’t going to help you out so too bad, so sad!!! See what I mean…amazing!

  342. d1shima October 6, 2012 3:09 pm

    Come on, D!!!

  343. Nothing to contribute October 6, 2012 3:10 pm

Yay, good job guys, SDSU beats themselves to help you out and then you still f-ck it up, amazing!

  344. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:10 pm

I swear to God, how can any positive thoughts be made watching UH play this season. Other teams beat themselves, we mess up. We get lucky, we mess up. We get a stop, we mess up. Can we have any kind of consistency at all besides consistently getting our asses handed to us for all the nation to see.

  345. Nothing to contribute October 6, 2012 3:11 pm

Chow is an idiot! Going for 4th and 11!

  346. Nothing to contribute October 6, 2012 3:11 pm

A Grease has firmly established + + + POSITIVE THOUGHTS + + + to go to the Warriors.

Go visit some other blog if you must needs portray other types of positive thoughts. How’s Pauoa lately? (tch)

  348. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:13 pm

Yes, 3rd rushing touchdown by the QB tonight. Highlight reel already, Heisman numbers here we come. Still a whole half of football to play too???

  349. Nothing to contribute October 6, 2012 3:13 pm

  350. DoubleB October 6, 2012 3:14 pm

Another Blow out…. Ball security Ball Security BALL SECuRiTy!!!!!!!!!

  351. Stephen Tsai October 6, 2012 3:15 pm

That was a horrible first half for Hawaii.

  352. Nothing to contribute October 6, 2012 3:17 pm

    My life.

  353. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 3:17 pm

    ST,

What’s going on?? Why is Hawaii sucking so bad for?

  354. Bugaz October 6, 2012 3:17 pm

At least we get Edwards back next season to return kick offs…thinking positive

  355. obachan October 6, 2012 3:18 pm

Obasan wants to volunteer to sub for D-line

  356. J October 6, 2012 3:18 pm

Starting to think about post-game meal.

  357. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 3:18 pm

    #358,

    Not a shutout at least.

  358. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 3:18 pm

Looks like NC gives up again w/16 secs. In the half. No confidence in his QB or his offense! Runs out the clock! Here we go again! Better schedule more Div II schools – no make that Div III. There is no way we would be in this bind with Mack!

  359. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 3:19 pm

Edwards ain’t coming back..team sucks so bad he’s finding another team

  360. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:19 pm

Hard to handle the truth when everyone in the nation has seen USC, Nevada, BYU, and now SDSU’s QB run all over our defense and whoop that ass! Our defense tackles like they got chicken grease on their hands. Our offense can’t do jack shit with the ball. There have been no improvements at all anywhere on the field besides having Dunnachie back to boom punts down field. Please enlighten me with a positive thought about what you are watching happen on the field…

  361. DoubleB October 6, 2012 3:19 pm

Positive thought – Defense looks better even with the injuries. Positive thought #2 WRs can’t drop that many balls in the second half right…. Right?

  362. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 3:19 pm

    its been a horrible 2 1/2 games!!!

  363. NinjaWarriorTurtle October 6, 2012 3:21 pm

I thought it was okay. Except for two fumbles. TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS. Cannot have TURNOVERS. And Warriors cannot stop a running QB. Why is that?

  364. NYUHTX October 6, 2012 3:21 pm

What can you say? Our leaders are letting us down.

  365. Ralph October 6, 2012 3:21 pm

do you want a change of pace, switch to big west TV for live video streaming of the Wahine VB against UCSB at 4 p.m. HST

  366. MattyBoy October 6, 2012 3:22 pm

There’s no way we can get rid of ChowClown at the end of the season right?? Yes I gave up on him..he’ll make us suffer again next year..maybe worse..another Von Appen Era in the making..

  367. fshnpoi October 6, 2012 3:22 pm

blog clock is off, it’s 356 p.m. and my post shows its only 3:21 p.m.

  371. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 3:23 pm

Wonder what advice coach is going to give the players during the half time? Wonder if they can make any adjustments? I guess he is going to run out the clock from now to try and keep the score respectable???

  372. Postmanke October 6, 2012 3:23 pm

My positive thought is im thankful that I stepped out of the sportbook betting line at the last minute couple hours ago. Must have been the positive hunch

  373. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:23 pm

    DoubleB,

my bad you’re right…the defense has only given up 35 points so far and not 40 plus, big improvement over the last 2 games, lets give them the benefit of the doubt, I’m sorry. Lets see how many dropped balls Miah can have this year… I don’t know what is it with a dude who should be one of the most sure handed guys on the team???

  374. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 3:23 pm

    374. you just wanted to say cocks. lol

  375. Moocher October 6, 2012 3:24 pm

    shroeder is playing ok… B

the receivers simply cannot get separation, dropping, fumbling balls, and no real yards after catches. again, these receivers were for the most part brought in for a different offense and it’s showing. C-

    o-line is so-so. C+

  376. fshnpoi October 6, 2012 3:25 pm

    381. atleast them cocks got game. lol

  377. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:25 pm

Oh wait, we are giving up 35 points and still have a whole other half to play. The defense is seriously showing big signs of improvement, what was I thinking…

  378. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 3:26 pm

    383. yeah, we shootin’ blanks

  379. helencalif October 6, 2012 3:26 pm

In 30 minutes the Oregon Ducks play Washington on ESPN.

  380. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 3:27 pm

LaTech 6-0 using the spread O.

  381. d1shima October 6, 2012 3:28 pm

There is no way we would be in this bind with Mack!

You no was in Vegas last year, eh?

  382. Bugaz October 6, 2012 3:29 pm

Who is going to be our next big time recruit?

  383. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:29 pm

Yes finally a game worth watching when OU and bruddah Marcus Mariota and Wade Keli’ikipi take to the field for the ducks.

Plus another local product Manti Te’o laying the smack down for Notre Dame.

  384. kapakahi October 6, 2012 3:29 pm

    #375,

True frosh Siaosi Hala’api’api (Kaimuki HS)…..who wasn’t recruited by this UH coaching staff….now starting at MACK LB for Cowboys.

  385. Bugaz October 6, 2012 3:30 pm

Lots of positions up for grabs!?

  386. Buffoman October 6, 2012 3:30 pm

If Micah catchesvthat ball, nobody would be calling the coach names. The guy misses and the coach is an idiot for going for it.

Our linebackers just seem to be out of position on the edges and since the game against SC we’ve gone back to the old arm tackling ways.

There are some who are really playing well.

Could have been possibly 28 – 14. At the half with possible momentum. Instead mistakes have us in another ugly situation.

  387. DoubleB October 6, 2012 3:32 pm

    Pauoa Boy,

I know… I will always pull for the Warriors, and they will always be my team… But this hurts braddah. But I’ll sit here and enjoy a couple more Blue Moon brews and watch the second half… Hoping for better 😉

  388. Janusz October 6, 2012 3:32 pm

Has the fire Norm Chow page on facebook gone up yet ???

  389. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 3:33 pm

This has been a bad year for UH! Losing JD, all the DUI, now losing Jane Croson in WV, losing BK and keeping Greenwood and Apple – our BOR sucks! Wonder what else can go wrong? Maybe time to clean the house completely and pay out more taxpayers dollars!

  390. Bugaz October 6, 2012 3:33 pm

    Let’s go Warriors!!! Keep fighting!

  391. d1shima October 6, 2012 3:33 pm

Adjustments were made in the 2nd Q…players need to play.

  392. Bugaz October 6, 2012 3:36 pm

Coach Chow will get us to the top 25 within the next two years.

  393. obachan October 6, 2012 3:36 pm

  394. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 3:38 pm

    nice run gregory

  395. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 3:38 pm

    DoubleB,

I grew up knowing only Warrior football. Introduced back when Garret Gabriel was killing the BYU’s back then. I love this team with a passion but it just kills me to no end to see them just get pounded week after week. I know this is a year of many changes but frikk our boys and our team is better than what we are seeing on the field. I no care to much about wins or losses as long as the boys play with some kind of heart and passion on the field. Seems like they kill themselves as well as getting killed at the same time. No matter I still going watch regardless but frikk this is just killing me. Plus I hate having to put up with people who talk shit about our boys but how can I defend them when the truth is we just get slammed everytime on national TV.

  432. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 3:58 pm

Sometimes I think Schroeder gets sacked as often as he does because he hangs on the ball to long waiting for something happen.. or when he clearly sees that his coverage is broken, he doesn’t try to get rid of the ball.

  433. Bugaz October 6, 2012 3:58 pm

    Come on D

    October 6th, 2012 at 3:36 pm

Coach Chow will get us to the top 25 within the next two years.

    Excellent! That’s the spirit.

Warriors would do well to internalize how they did in the Lamar game. Also internalize that winning feeling.

Couldn’t PAY a Grease to be a Manti right now. And, uh, that OU QB? Well, lately OU comes up short in their ultimate dream, you know, after paying for all those fancy uniforms.

  472. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 4:22 pm

Fireworks can be seen on a nightly basis from Sea World and also Disneyland… I remember being in those frikkin squadbays on MCRD San Diego and that was the one thing to look forward to as a recruit, a nice fireworks show before getting some much needed zzzz…

  473. Bugaz October 6, 2012 4:23 pm

  474. SAWARRIOR October 6, 2012 4:24 pm

yes, internalize that Lamar wasn’t an FCS school and not in its 3rd year of football.

  475. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 4:24 pm

Not sure what the point is of mentioning Mariota in relation to Hawaii football.

Only one of the two latest UH HC’s was visiting Marcus in his Junior year at SLS…

  489. Ralph October 6, 2012 4:30 pm

    UHWVB up 2-0; 13, 16; Hartong with 10 K

  490. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 4:30 pm

Shit I guess our defense hasn’t gotten much better huh so lets throughout that positive thought. Another 40 plus givin up again in the third consecutive game against a FBS school that ain’t even that good…nice!

  491. d1shima October 6, 2012 4:31 pm

…and it wasn’t the one who didn’t recognize Mariota’s HS HC at a UH practice and ordered him off the field. 🙄

  492. iwonderwhytheyhateme October 6, 2012 4:32 pm

    This sucks

  493. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 4:32 pm

Now Chow needs to run the ball to minimize the scoring! Might as well – just like The BYU game. Really stupid play calling! Wonder what his excuses will be this week. Still keeping the non-mobile QB! When is he going to learn we getting beat by mobile QBs. After 3 games U would think he would adjust!

  494. Postmanke October 6, 2012 4:34 pm

I feel bad for the QB. ton of added weight. I’m sure lots of family, friends rooting him on at the game.. Thing is doesn’t need to be all on his shoulders. There options.

  495. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 4:34 pm

Hopefully SDSU second string don’t beat us up bad like BYU did!

  496. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 4:35 pm

What’s the point of mentioning any of our top high school prospects in relation to Hawaii football, I don’t see too many of them committing or even considering UH even with Coach Chow at the helm. And no the ones that committed aside from maybe Wa’a isn’t really the cream of the crop either…

  497. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 4:35 pm

Still am a supporter of the previous coaching staff! Was hoping for an improvement with this coaching staff since the powers to be wanted a change.

  520. Bugaz October 6, 2012 4:57 pm

We get next week. Is it Saturday yet? Lol

  521. Ralph October 6, 2012 4:57 pm

  523. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 4:58 pm

    Mariota is a frikkin beast!

  524. Postmanke October 6, 2012 5:00 pm

    C’mon Lobos!

  525. NinjaWarriorTurtle October 6, 2012 5:00 pm

Tackling in the 4th quarter looked like a rugby scrum. How did our players fall so far?

  526. JV October 6, 2012 5:00 pm

Previous staff was bad as well, get over it. UH needed change but they might have made the wrong choice.

  527. BigHiloFan2 October 6, 2012 5:01 pm

oh the anguish of it all.

but i still believe in our team. in our coach.

Go Warriors! positive thoughts coach. positive thoughts.

  528. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 5:01 pm

Yeah I done watching UH get there frikkin asses kicked already so what? Hard for keep watching a team who gets their ass handed to them and then play like idiots and beat themselves for doing stupid shit! No improvement, no positives at all.

  529. Buffoman October 6, 2012 5:02 pm

I am a supporter of this team and coaching staff. I still watch, get frustrated but this is our team and we will have a rocky road ahead.

  530. PowderPuff October 6, 2012 5:03 pm

Well, at least we get to see a fireworks show now. It’s the KGB Skyshow sponsored by MRC…that is the real name. 🙂

  531. helencalif October 6, 2012 5:03 pm

Ninja Warrior Turtle had it 52-17. I think that is the closest.

  532. Ralph October 6, 2012 5:04 pm

Softball is in the air, come on down to the RWSS and watch the 2012-13 edition of Rainbow wahine.

    Bob Coolen @UHawaiiSoftball

Aloha! Field practices start Monday @ 4:30…8 new faces will take the diamond! Tues. & Thurs. practices @ 6pm w/ scrimmages on Fri. @ 3:30!

  533. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 5:05 pm

If you want to watch some local boys who are in beast mode then you would watch Manti Te’o and right now Marcus Mariota.

  534. wafan October 6, 2012 5:06 pm

    PP . . .

MRC? Maybe they are lying and there will not be a fireworks show.

  535. wafan October 6, 2012 5:06 pm

On the advice of counsel, that is.

  536. greenthumb October 6, 2012 5:07 pm

As long as our players leave their hearts on the field, I will keep watching.

  537. wafan October 6, 2012 5:07 pm

    Brutal game.

  538. Postmanke October 6, 2012 5:08 pm

    Plenty good freshmen. Positive

  539. wafan October 6, 2012 5:10 pm

    Pomai . . .

    38 – 14, Warriors naturally.

    Go Warriors!

  540. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 5:13 pm

    LizK on da radio!

  541. Bleed Green and White October 6, 2012 5:14 pm

I find it funny, almost sad really, that some “bloggers” are jumping all over Sean Schroeder.

I gotta ask, “exactly what damn game are you guys watching?”

I mean who the hell is he gonna throw it to?

Who the hell is blocking for him?

How man times can the center snap the ball to him when he’s not even looking?

Most pathetic play of the season, the screen pass to Adam Muema that he turned into a 31 yard touchdown.

How man Warriors did he drag into the end zone?

Wholy moses, stop blaming the damn quarterback.

    Frustrating, I know!

  542. greenthumb October 6, 2012 5:14 pm

552 then again, some UH officials say she is in California (news story this morning about BOR executive session scheduled for 10/12)

  543. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 5:16 pm

A depleted defense took even more hits with more injuries tonight.

On top of not being able to move the ball consistently. We had opportunities to turn the momentum, but dropped passes, and flat out brain farts just killed drives.

    Gotta get it done, boyz.

  544. Buffoman October 6, 2012 5:17 pm

The problem in this game is that we see snippet of promise but the frustration come when we cannot repeat the good play with any consistency. But I thought we played a fairly good third quarter.

  545. wafan October 6, 2012 5:17 pm

    #561 . . .

    More lies.

    She is ill.

No, she is on the continent.

Ummm . . . she is with her lawyers on the advice of counsel.

  546. wafan October 6, 2012 5:19 pm

Dang. 1420 is even slower now.

    Liz finally on the radio.

  547. hightide October 6, 2012 5:19 pm

I thought the Proset Offense was suppose to give the defense a break. What’s happening.

The larger problem is the athletic department might never recover from this fiasco, what will become of it?

  548. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 5:21 pm

Is the JUGS machine broken? Or did it get stolen? Just wondering…

  549. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 5:24 pm

    Listening to ESPN 1420…

That sound system at Qualcomm is good, clear, and very loud! Hahaha!

  550. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 5:27 pm

Who provides our helmets? Are they brand new, or are they old shells, just refitted with newer cushions, facemasks, etc? Seems our helmets are always coming off, and we are getting an awful lot of head/neck injuries.

  551. Buffoman October 6, 2012 5:31 pm

    #566

This season is not the big problem. The big problem is when AKAsupporters like Kobayashi leave because he cannot support the chancellor.

I believe we can weather this storm, but loosing donor/supporter at that level because on no confidence in upper campus is a big red flag.

  552. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 5:35 pm

Thank U DS and the wahine volleyball team! Hard to view the match on the Internet but enjoyed this better then watching UH football team get out coached again.

  553. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 5:35 pm

On the radio… question was… when we’re so far behind (on the scoreboard), why don’t we put in a backup QB, to get them some play time too?

Standard response… gotta get the first team to play together. Also, if the first team can’t move the ball, and there’s such a big drop-off between first and second string, will they be able to move the ball at all?

As some have posted previously, some are good in practice, but can’t seem to get it done when the bright lights come on. While others don’t shine too brightly in practice, but are total gamers under the lights.

One thing that comes to mind… over these past few years, how many “second string” QB’s have gotten their starts against us, and looked so good, that they eventually became starters?

  554. Wes'side Warrior October 6, 2012 5:37 pm

    Anywayz, going crash early.

I’ll catch up on reading things later.

    G’night, Gang!

Heal up, Warriors! Gotta move forward!

  555. Kevin October 6, 2012 5:38 pm

    WW,

The helmets are Riddell. One of the top brands out there.

  556. Kevin October 6, 2012 5:38 pm

    WW,

Its an NFL stadium. I did see those same speakers on the field to add to the suspended sound system…

    Those JBL VRX speakers!!!

  557. cocobean October 6, 2012 5:40 pm

Didn’t see the game was it as bad as the score? Talked to two frustrated peeps. They were down in the dumps said the game was painful to watch.

Time for fans to blow off some steam, regroup and show up for the next game.

  558. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 5:42 pm

Wonder who is pulling the strings in the hiring at UH? Seems UH is going south with the recent hires! Oh, it’s the BoR! No wonder DK grilled them – too bad the BoR listen to only legal counsel and those that recommend their names. Would hope they take an earnest effort in guiding the UH admin.

  559. Kevin October 6, 2012 5:44 pm

    Cocobean,

Might be time for some people to try to watch the games with friends (if these certain people have any). That might help them cool off instead of flooding the blog like their own Twitter with useless cheapshot comments at the student-athletes.

    😆 😆 😆 😆

  560. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 5:47 pm

I fell asleep towards the end of the third quarter… literally.

Boy, I really miss our RnS…

  562. Garret October 6, 2012 5:54 pm

Well, at least we get to see a fireworks show now. It’s the KGB Skyshow sponsored by MRC…that is the real name

    PowerderPuff,

Slight correction–a radio station (KGB) is sponsoring the fireworks show. They pay for the fireworks show every year, that isn’t paid for by SDSU.

MRC is the sponsor of the *game*. Each game SDSU has a different sponsor–the sponsor gets a little recognition and a handshake/photo during one of the TV timeouts during the game…and SDSU gets a nice check to help pay for their Athletic Department expenses.

MRC is a division of Xerox. I *did* notice that the name stood out and was pretty coincidental.

  563. MauiSamurai October 6, 2012 6:02 pm

Don’t believe we are down on the student athletes. But am down on the coaches! The last 3 games we were out coached! We were not able to make much adjustments. SDSU coaches did make adjustments after our score and stopped us COLD!

  564. Garret October 6, 2012 6:02 pm

SDSU put their subs in early, their 3rd string RB got a good number of carries. It was nice that both teams (even the one losing the game was running out the clock and not hurrying on offense) kept running the ball and seemed to want to just get the game over with. I home right before my girls fell asleep.

I think it was clear that UH was conceding the game in the 4th quarter, but wanted to keep the starters in. But even when UH was making the game interesting in the 3rd quarter (TD, stopped SDSU), the time clock was still running almost all the way down. Instead of running a hurry up offense, UH took its time and even got a delay of game penalty because it didn’t snap the ball in time.

I guess that UH doesn’t have a hurry up offense right now. No attempt to throw the ball deep to end the 1st half after an amazing kick return. No attempt to go no-huddle or get to the line of scrimmage a little faster when down 4 TDs in the 3rd quarter.

To me, it looked like UH wanted to get some experience and not lose by too much…so, the team behind in the game was running out the clock. With the team ahead also trying to run out the clock (no matter how many defenders came up to play the run, their backups were going to run the ball unless it was 3rd-and-long).

  565. Garret October 6, 2012 6:05 pm

The backups need to keep their heads in the game. Any backup player is one play away from having to go into the game.

Early in the game SS had to come out for 1 play and Shutter ran all around the UH benches trying to find his helmet. He was NOT able to find it for a long time…so long that Higgins was told to go into the game! Shutter would have cost UH a timeout or a delay of game penalty because he wasn’t prepared, but Higgins bailed him and the team out by being ready with his helmet in hand standing right next to the coach.

If anyone was wondering why Higgins went into the game early, it was a very interesting series of events. I’ve never seen a backup QB run around like that trying to find his helmet.

  566. PowderPuff October 6, 2012 6:06 pm

Garret..oops, you’re right. But wow, that was an AMAZING fireworks show.

  567. Bigislandkurt October 6, 2012 6:06 pm

Don’t blame the fans for being fans.

Every fan has a right to be a fan. Even the fair weather ones.

    winning cures all.

    BIK

  568. Garret October 6, 2012 6:08 pm

Later in the 1st half, a defensive player (I won’t mention his name) could not find his helmet so he was enable to go in like he was supposed to. He finally got his helmet and took 3 steps onto the field before being called back because it was too late for him to go in by then. UH ended up using a timeout because of that confusion.

In a close game, a wasted timeout could cost UH a game. Hopefully after TWO incidents in one half, UH won’t have any people missing their helmets the rest of the season.

  569. Warrior in Georgia October 6, 2012 6:09 pm

Once again I ask, how in the hell is this better than what we had last year? Old, outdated coach, offense, and defense. Mack never got beat this bad three times in a season and we still have Boise, Fresno, and Wyoming left. All on the coaches and dumba$$es that run UH. Thanks for putting our once proud football program back 5 years and making it the laughingstock of college football.

  570. Garret October 6, 2012 6:10 pm

Physical mistakes happen. Coaching mistakes happen. Nobody is perfect, no team plays a perfect game.

But I’ve never seen a team have 2 players in one half not able to find their helmets to the point where it hurt the team.

  571. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 6:12 pm

If Coach Chow going stick with Schroeder, then might as well tell Graves to hele on to a different school. What’s the use of sticking it out when you won’t even get put on the travel roster after paying your dues. What a joke! I’ll take Graves over Schroeder any day. Make excuses all you want for Schroeder, but there is a reason why he rode bench at Duke, who sucks in football! I love how Schroeder plays the whole game too and only proves consistently that he doesn’t have the skills to move the ball down the field with his arm or his feet. Blame the rest of the offense for his shortcomings, pulease give me a frikkin break!

  572. Chicken Grease October 6, 2012 6:14 pm

Folks . . . you control . . . NOT CAN CONTROL, YOU DO CONTROL how you feel when folks talk stink about the Warriors, OK? You don’t have to feel lousy after reading what they say (which you should ignore once you see such skreed.

They apparently need an audience to air their crap to; they know they’re on a board that has more disagreeing with what they have to say.

  573. Pauoa Boy October 6, 2012 6:19 pm

Funny thing is when Coach Chow was asked if this is what he expected the season to be like and he responded with a yes, goes to show you that he’s pretty much just going through the motions this season and already threw in the towel. No wonder the players have no heart or passion on the field and just going through the motions. You can see the body language from the players as well as the Coach. They have no faith in themselves or the team. Look at the play-calling. No sense of urgency, calling frikkin draw plays on 4th down, screen passes on 3rd and longs, like WTF? Defense is a frikkin joke. I mean what the hell was simplified and changed this week from last. What, letting Fonua start the game and subbing him in an out like crazy. Like I said hard to watch a team that seems like it just don’t give a shit!

  574. wafan October 6, 2012 6:20 pm

    Huzzah VolleyBows!

  575. kapakahi October 6, 2012 6:26 pm

  577. obachan October 6, 2012 6:32 pm

586 Agree with my fellow Big Islander Kurt. Every fan has a right to express their opinion – good or bad. Lot of excitement, hope and change when Chow was hired. Now being replaced by losing hope and disillusionment setting in. Kinda reminds me of another guy from Hawaii who’s the head coach of the nation.

  578. Warrior in Georgia October 6, 2012 6:33 pm

The only crap i’m reading on this blog is the “positive thoughts” junk. Are we all gonna hold hands now and start signing Kumbaya. For those who actually know the sport, it’s frustrating to watch an proud program being ruined. Here’s a positive thought, I’m positive we are going to win fewer games than any year since 2000. How’s that?

I feel bad for our players, they are SO MUCH better than this coaching staff is making them look.

  579. mo808 October 6, 2012 6:35 pm

    Tough loss today…very tough!

  580. PeteJek October 6, 2012 6:36 pm

  581. mo808 October 6, 2012 6:37 pm

    Need to toughen up more!

  582. mo808 October 6, 2012 6:39 pm

  584. markazulu October 6, 2012 6:41 pm

Norm Chow has made some good decisions but its not even showing up on gameday except against Lamar! Thats ridiculous even with a new system losing by 40 plus we might have the worse team in the nation. I’ll keep cheering and supporting and hoping for the best but its so hard when we arent even putting up a fight. I hope they can turn it around i believe its easy but the past 5 games i havent seen any improvement.

#588- 5 years ago, we went to the Sugar Bowl 😉

  589. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 6:54 pm

Watching the Warriors play, I feel like I’m watching an old Dragonball cartoon.. you know those episodes where the hero, Son Goku keeps getting beaten up … everything keeps going down hill.. he nearly gets killed episode after episode.. but in the cartoons… each time he’s knocked down he comes back stronger… eventually stronger than his opponents.

That seems to be Coach Chow’s methodology… ignore the stats.. ignore the scores.. keep doing the exact same thing over and over and over and eventually all the pieces will come together and the team will start winning… Each game being practice for the theoretical wins down the road. Sacrifice this year for next or the following with less emphasis on what games we can win and greater emphasis on doing things according to the playbook.

Paint on.. paint off… paint on.. paint off…

    hope it works soon…

  590. Jack Flash October 6, 2012 6:56 pm

Speaking as a true “couch coach,” where’s all the play-action and misdirection offense we were hoping for? Wouldn’t that help keep opposing defenses from teeing off on our QB so much? By the way, i saw great effort from most of our defensive players, but a few seemed to let up at times. Those are the 1/11’s that are hurting their brothers in my humble opinion…

  591. Manoa October 6, 2012 7:02 pm

Obviously something seriously wrong with both the offense and defense.

No one could have expected us to be this bad.

Fee sorry for Chow, because all in hindsight now, he might have done things differently and made some changes in what he has been running offensively and defensively.

Chow is in a establish the run first to open the pass type of offense. But teams just stuff our running game which is all between the tackles where we pack in extra players, like tight ends and fullbacks to draw in even more defenders so we can create a real challenge for our running plays up the middle. But we can’t pass either, because, rather than more receivers, we change those positions for fullbacks and Tight Ends which are not helping the offense at all.

  592. Hoohiki October 6, 2012 7:04 pm

We had very high expectations this year for our football team with new coaches, new players and of course a new system, and that’s probably why the disappointments thus far run so deep. It is also understandable the anger we all feel because it’s a defense mechanism so that we can cope with the disappointment that we are unable to control. I have to remind myself though that these young Warriors are probably even more disappointed, angry, helpless and they still have to pick themselves up and work even harder. I could only imagine how awful they feel and I believe that they will not give up despite these losses. The injuries can’t be helped and the inexperience can’t be helped. I don’t think the coaches have thrown in the towel and I don’t think as fans we should either. This is not the time to start kicking someone when they’re down. Furthermore, it’s easy to “play coach” or think you know what a player should do in the realm of your living room. Try being in the trenches yourself. Yes, I feel bad because of the outcome of the game, but I feel even worse reading the insensitive comments posted here. I will always support the Warriors, win or lose.

  593. Jack Flash October 6, 2012 7:04 pm

Iosefa was pretty effective running off tackle though. I hope he gets well soon!

  594. Warrior in Georgia October 6, 2012 7:07 pm

Jack flash, the good ole days, with a coach who could actually adjust successfully during a game and oh, wait for it, score points. Minus the D3 team we played, we are averaging a mere 16 pts a game under this offensive “genius”, with only only 8 in the first half, when we have let up an average of over 30 in the 1st half alone. Like I said, I feel bad for our players, they were never like this last year.

  595. NinjaWarriorTurtle October 6, 2012 7:09 pm

Warrior in Georgia, I couldn’t have said it better. I don’t know if this was the worse game, but I think it was the worse 4th quarter I have ever witnessed.

  596. helencalif October 6, 2012 7:11 pm

I can understand what is happening with the offense, but I can’t understand the poor tackling of the defense.

#592. Pauoa Boy says the team has no heart and no passion on the field, that they are just going through the motions.

What would cause this? Has something happened that would sour a football team? What’s going on in practice?

I think Cayman Shutter deserves some slack (not a lot, but some) for not being ready to play. He probably thought he would never have any chance to play. Higgins was smart. He had his helmet in his hand, was ready to go, and made sure he could not be overlooked. He got his 3 minutes on the field.

  597. islandman October 6, 2012 7:12 pm

Next opponent New Mexico was ranked 10th in rushing offense in the nation before today’s games, San Diego St. was 16th. They lost to Boise only 32-29 one week ago.

  598. Jack Flash October 6, 2012 7:13 pm

Well, i know the coach has the plays in his playbook. I watched the Utes win the Sunbowl last year with some GREAT playcalling by OC- Norm Chow- in that game! Why we aren’t running them, i do not know. I hope they get this thing back on track soon. See you all at the stadium next saturday. We will always support our Warriors!

  599. AZWARRIOR22 October 6, 2012 7:15 pm

It’s very painful to watch UH play right now. They can’t stop any option QB. And we don’t have a mobile QB or one that can stretch the field. It’s real ugly.

  600. obachan October 6, 2012 7:18 pm

Cayman might have had his helmet if he thought he had a snowball’s chance in hell of playing but when your coach makes it clear that back up QBs will likely not see playing time (in order to avoid controversy and remove doubt in the mind of the 1st string QB, then you tend to believe what your coach says. Although he should always know where his helmet is in the event of injury to the starting QB.

  601. Moocher October 6, 2012 7:19 pm

    espn bottom 10 next week

easy to blame to shroeder-but he’s the wrong guy to blame. on offense he’s the only bright spot…along with #4 on offense.

line can’t block, receivers can’t get open, receivers drop balls…that would make any quarterback look bad. besides, where would any quarterback run to the way the o-line gets swamped and misses assignments.

there’s no way graves would ever be able to run chows offense…i’m convinced.

graves might be better off at receiver or safety.

credit chow. he did make changes. but dropped balls and turnovers are game killers.

coach K needs to do better on D. third game now it’s like the boys cannot tackle.

edwards is a stud-heart and soul of the team.

  602. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 7:20 pm

Next week is homecoming… We’re supposed to win that, right? I hope somebody told New Mexico that… They double upped on NMSU, got eclipsed by Boise, then ran a stubborn Texas State into the ground with 361 yards rushing… behind their Pistol attack.

Luckily they don’t run a play every 15 seconds like Nevada, though, and they only netted 16 years in the air against Texas State…

  603. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 7:21 pm

    oops.. yards.. not years.. LOL

Next opponent New Mexico runs the option from the pistol and is coached by Bob Davie who once coached at Notre Dame. Davie is considered a defensive mastermind per the New Mexico website.

Man! I need a drink, and I don’t even drink!! Another game video tape that needs to be burned.

Well, tomorrow is another day. Need to prepare for New Mexico

  606. Bigislandkurt October 6, 2012 7:41 pm

All signs point to New Mexico coming in here and handing the warriors another loss. The warriors play thus far not withstanding, the lobos are a pretty good team. We have not been able to really stop the run all season and NM is one hell of a running team. To confound it all, our redcross tent is getting quite full after each week. I predict more growing pains next week. Unless New mexico plays like….well, New Mexico.

Tough, tough game. PowderPuff was right though, that was an amazing fireworks show. A decent number of SDSU fans didn’t come in until after halftime. I saw a few people show up with their tickets in hand with less than 5 minutes left in the game just to watch the fireworks show.

  616. helencalif October 6, 2012 7:54 pm

Chow is hard to figure out. He announced Graves is so valuable a player that he is going to be a receiver. He announced Graves is going to get a 2nd chance as QB, has him put on the red jersey at practices, but doesn’t play him. He doesn’t even have him travel with the team which means he has no thought of playing him at any position. He announced Cayman Shutter is going to get a 2nd chance at being he back up QB. He sits him out 3 games, not 4, because of the DUI. Cayman has been riding the bench now for two games. Higgins is somewhere in the depth chart as a QB, but I am not sure just where he is in Chow’s mind. Chow has made it very clear that Schroeder is going to play every minute of every game no matter the score. If Schroeder gets hurt, who will Chow turn to for his back up QB? There have been 5 games and none of the QBs have experienced more than a few minutes of playing time.

The coaches and the team is the ones to blame. Though I do find it noticable that shroeder is not a very good reader when it comes to releasing the ball down field. He stares down his recievers, wait till they are completely open then throws into tight coverage or when the defender has recovered to break on the ball. He also throws the ball with little power behind it. He’s a tuff QB and can obsorb the hits, but his weakness is his mobility to move and scrabble out of the pocket under pressure and that my friend will not sustain drives and put points on the board. He takes too many sacks that could be easily avoided. We tend to be quick to blame the offensive line when he gets sacked, but how much more time does he need before he can start to make better reads and to trust his recievers more. Many times I’ve seen recievers wide open including the backs. One thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, “Thow the ball for crying out loud!” Because that what the offensive line is giving him and thats all he needs. Any more time then that is great but you can’t expect it. Just make better reads and get rid of the ball alot sooner.

  618. Keoniana439 October 6, 2012 7:59 pm

I wa at the game – sad to say; same poor performance; different opponent; SS and the receivers have no chemistry; SS is not mobile; the line can only hold for so long; no running game; like I said earlier – this reminds me if the Von Appen years.

  619. HolyCrapp! October 6, 2012 8:02 pm

    Offense needs a makeover………

I saw the game on TV. With recorder in hand, I was able to go back and review plays. I think you are right, there is no chemistry between the QB and his receivers. I just do not see them being in sync. UH is not going to win games trying to run up the middle as you are right, they have no running game. Why is that?

    Warrior in Georgia:

    October 6th, 2012 at 6:33 pm

The only crap i’m reading on this blog is the “positive thoughts” junk. Are we all gonna hold hands now and start signing Kumbaya.

Mr. (you are a “Mr.”, yes?) . . . think you’re misrepresenting a Grease. Not once did I write “hold hands now and start [singing; your original post said “signing”, see above quote and your original post] Kumbaya” (which sounds oddly familiar, so, let us know of the original source, yes?), so, uh, please don’t misrepresent a Grease. Have kids? When YOU tell them to be positive, do YOU want them to be “holding hands now and start [singing] Kumbaya”? Probably not. (sorry that you miss the point if your response is “uh, I don’t have kids” or “uh, I’ve never even had to TELL my kids to ‘think positive.'”)

Heh. A supposed Warrior in Georgia; not exactly Voltaire in Paris, no?

    Have a nice week, sincerely.

My only positive thought….Taylor Graham + Will Gregory

  625. HolyCrapp! October 6, 2012 8:20 pm

I thought the defense made some improvements a little, though the same results even with the activation of freshman LB Benny Fonua who really wasn’t a factor in the game. Maybe theres thats why shroeder never saw playing time at Duke. I feel that its obviously showing the final results. Just don’t think he’s the guy and we need to give the other QB’s a shot. Yes any may think he knows more then the other QB’s but how will we know if they are not on the field playing? Since there has been alot of player personnel shuffling going on, and this is a so called experimental year, why not give it a shot? Let’s see how well the other QB’s do in the game besides shroeder. You never know until it happens and they are given tha opportunity.

  626. SD Warrior October 6, 2012 8:25 pm

Based on what Katz just did to us in a pro-style offense.. I’d like to see Graves again

  627. warriorfan October 6, 2012 8:27 pm

well at this stage in the season I am just sick Our coach much be senile or just plain o senile. I have been around these kids and they are not that bad. Something is very wrong and it is not the players. My gut feeling is we have some serious problems with our coaching staff, starting with our Head Coach, down. I am still on the bandwagon, and I think the players will have to figure this one out for themselves. All I will say about the qb, There is a reason that he never seen the field at Duke a football team that is know more than a stepping stone for their div

Garret #584 Don’t be so hard on the off players on the sideline, they know that Coach Chow will not let them in the game even if score is 50 points ahead or behind, He reward failure with continue failure. Case and point The one lineman that gave up two sacks, 5 hurries, and three tackles in the back field last game, what he do, he move him over to the right tackle as a starter, and guess who gave up the first sack today. Pauoa boy #590 You are right on track I hope David Graves move on. Such a waste of talent hanging around at UH

  628. Keoniana439 October 6, 2012 8:28 pm

When Norm Chow said, ” we will chase championships”, did he meant the ILH or OIA?

  629. HolyCrapp! October 6, 2012 8:29 pm

I also think that the fullbacks and tightends should be utilized more in the schemes. Running the ball along with some balls thrown there way. It seems like shroeder keyed in on stutzman majority of the time. Even the sports commentator was saying that he needed to spread the ball around.

#641 helencalif, sorry – I don’t know the answer..but I’ve never seen UH play this way since Von Appen was Coach – and he was a West Coast Offense guy. June Jones once said that UH will always have a hard time recruiting players – so the Run N Shoot works because it gives UH the chance to complete in games. This system that Chow implemented is not working with this team, unfortunately.

  633. kev-1 October 6, 2012 8:36 pm

I don’t want to hate on Schroeder, because this teams problems are far greater than just at QB, but he really showed his weaknesses tonight. I am convinced that he is the starter purely because of knowlege of a pro-set offense. At some point, Chow is gonna have to give someone else a shot. His arm strength is suspect. He lacks the zip and release necessary to be successful. His decision making is sometimes questionable too, often throwing into double coverage. He may be brain smart, but just not athletic enough. Sure he’s tough, but I’m sure there are other guys on the roster at QB who are tough too.

Again, I may regret being negative about him in the morning, as this team has many more problems to deal with. Among others, dropped passes!

  635. kev-1 October 6, 2012 8:39 pm

I actually think the run game will get better with time. But you need to be able to turn to the pass when it isn’t working. And UH has not proven they can do that at all. If the offense posed a bit more unpredictability, they would be more successful. But when you aren’t a threat to throw the ball, the run will get stuffed everytime. Defenses have been stacking the box and meeting the RB with many bodies pretty often. That equals no respect for the pass game.

  637. niho mano October 6, 2012 8:41 pm

I see desention between the recievers and the qb…one drop ball looked like it was meant to make the qb look bad…I do see the qb looking at the reciever before throwing, causing the opposing D to converge on the reciever…I was wondering if we could have a qb that could run and get clear like all the opposing qb’s that we played…I noticed a lot of one hand touch tackle attempts on the D. When we played R&S scheme we didn’t get beaten by that much…rebuilding is pretty bad…I don’t like to see a team from Hawaii get beaten like that it makes me angry for our team and a new scheme that is not working…unhappy warrior fan!!! PS, don’t do the Haka it only intimidate our opponents and they turn around and smash us.

  638. greenthumb October 6, 2012 8:43 pm

Yes, watching this game was frustrating overall. Just like watching our other losses this season. But no matter how much green we bleed, we are not bearing the physical burden. The players are. Any criticisms the fans come up with are likely already in their minds, and then some. Adding to this negative self-talk will build another barrier to success. (note: am not talking about comments about play-calling etc.)

We can be the 12th man or we can vent.

  639. Fumiko October 6, 2012 8:46 pm

I’m really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one nowadays..

  640. cocobean October 6, 2012 8:53 pm

Venting is good. It’s better than holding it in. Get it out of your system then let it go. As long as there’s a next game I’ll remain hopeful we can turn things around.

Chow and his staff are fair game for criticism. Players should be off limits. The QB usually takes the most heat when a team is losing. Too bad for Schroeder. He takes a lot of hard hits on the field and now is taking hits off. Chow was asked about changing QBs immediately after the Reno game. Said something like he wouldn’t do it because to give up on a player is like he’s giving up, thougt it would be a bad signal to the team.

To me the second most important coaching position on O is the Oline coach. Chow isn’t the type to throw a player nor a coach under the bus. But I was a bit skeptical when he turned such an important position to a Grad Student turned rookie coach. When talking about correcting things on O he has commented more than once he has to take another look a his blocking schemes. Seems like we’re in the same situation we were in when Mack appointed his first choice for Oline coach.

It’s funny how better blocking leads to a better offense no matter what type of O you run.

  641. papajoe2 October 6, 2012 8:59 pm

Later in his career, I even saw Dan Marino scramble. With a qb that takes off once in a while, it makes the defense sit back and cautious, thinking that the qb may burn them. It may open things up a little more. Just ask Reno, and BYU.

  647. kev-1 October 6, 2012 9:13 pm

Helencalif is kinda right. She’s not outright calling for Graves to start. She is calling out Chow on his own comments. In a sense, Chow is pulling an Apple. Apple said Donovan is a great AD, then has him reassigned. Chow said Graves is deserving of a shot at receiver, then back at QB, and he doesn’t even travel with the team?

Look, we are all arm chairing it right now. Bottom line is it isn’t working right now. It seems Chow is more intent on the team learning the system and sacrificing the season, while others want changes and wins.

In reality, Chow’s approach is probably better for the future, but is frustrating in the present.

  648. redwarrior October 6, 2012 9:16 pm

    @661

Yes I was surprised with how Graves criticized Mack after he was fired. Maybe Coach Chow thinks he would do the same thing to him.

It sounds like some people need to re-read the interview that Graves gave. He was asked questions and gave honest answers. The entire time, making it known how uncomfortable he was doing so. Stop trying to turn it on him.

  650. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 9:21 pm

Dropped passes… is that a result of limited practice or the ball getting to the receiver a beat late … not behind or away.. but just before the defenders converge on the receivers.

Last week I got mad, this week I just laughed. What an embarrassment! Once UH gets serious about this so called football program, then maybe it will get better. Now, it is just a joke to watch this on tv.

I feel sorry for the people that actually spent money with Oceanic to watch this live.

    UH Football, a total joke.

  655. helencalif October 6, 2012 9:45 pm

David has been disappointed about not playing, but he has not been critical of any coaches nor has he been critical of any player nor has he been critical of the team. He went to Hawaii to play for Hawaii. We have not spoken about Coach Chow at all. Nor have we spoken about the lost games. Any criticisms or frustrations that I have expressed are my own. I am not a coach and have never played football in my life, but I have watched football for 50 years. For over 20 years we had season tickets to the 49ers and seldom missed a game. I can recognize good passes, dropped passes, a QB who is slow to pass, slow to read, and slow to move. I can recognize missed tackles and defense mistakes. I think most will agree that the 4 lost games have been agonizing to watch. Regarding David’s public criticism of Coach Mac, go back and read the interview carefully. He did not invite the interview; he did not prepare for it. A microphone was stuck in his face and he honestly replied to questions he was asked. Some were of the “when did you stop beating your wife” category. He should not have agreed to answer any questions because he had no control over what spin would be put on them. When he saw how it came out, he called Coach Mac immediately. It was OK with Coach Mac. He understood what had happened.

  656. BowNatic October 6, 2012 9:46 pm

And unless they bring Lamar back to play another game, UH willl not even sniff another win…. Getting outscored 168 – 48 in 3 games does not make players with any talent want to sign with UH. Wait! They might have a shot against that powerhouse Southern Alabama, but it will be tight. 1 – 12 is a great record, I am sure that seat prices won’t be going up in the near future..

    Ok, done..

  657. helencalif October 6, 2012 9:55 pm

David and Coach Mac had no problems. David and Rolo had no problems.

  658. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 9:55 pm

I think Coach Mack had a lot on his mind in his last season as negotiations to extend his contract were not going well… He probably saw the writing on the wall and went into denial. That pre-occupation of what the future holds for himself and his staff may have contributed to his loss of focus. Don’t know.. can only speculate. I do hope, he is doing well and enjoying his retirement.

Why do I feel like he might pop up at SMU with JJ in a year?

  659. madeinhawaii October 6, 2012 10:00 pm

Warrior1978, I agree. Coach Chow should not be criticized at this time of the year, especially with such a young team. Hopefully UH can turn it around, (Doubt it big time), and make this some what of a successful year.

  665. BowNatic October 6, 2012 10:31 pm

    Matty,

I agree. But I feel sorry for the players and the coaches. UH had a chance to become a great football powerhouse but they decided in their infinite wisdom to screw June Jones. Maybe the University has decided to focus on Academics rather then sports, maybe to show the world the UH is worth attending. But then maybe, the academic staff is getting paid and they just don’t care, reference HPU being a higher rated educational University.

Hmmmm… Maybe I should stop ranting eh? Aloha all….

  673. helencalif October 6, 2012 11:45 pm

Re Post #681 Warrior 1978. And also your previous post in which which you said I was critical of Coach Chow.

Why are you singling me out? I never said Chow was a senile stubborn old man. I never said he should retire, should resign, should be fired. I have never been critical of the plays he has called. I never said he set the Hawaii team back 8 years.

The closest thing you might call criticism is my post #635. Go read it again. Coach Chow made those announcements, but nothing has come of them. We know he has been with the team less than 10 months. We know he is the head coach. But he is also the Offensive Coordinator and coaches the QBs and therein lies the tale. The offense he has coached has serious problems.

The defense also has serious problems. The buck stops with the head coach. That’s why football organizations have head coaches. They take the heat when things don’t go well.

It’s my old school thinking that football coaches don’t DESERVE anything based on past performance. They gotta EARN it when they take on a new coaching job.

Hawaii has lost 4 games out of 5 and has lost them badly. I support the players. No single player lost those games, but overall we are not seeing good football being played offensively or defensively.

The logical question to ask is… why is good football not being played?

I am cranky. I wanted the team to show more improvement in tonight’s game. Worth noting: #4 (a freshman) was a blessing and our kicker was great. However, San Diego 412 offensive yards; UH 173. QB passing 28, 14 completed. 50% completion rate. 14 passes for 112 yds.

This is a football blog. It is what it is… a place for fans to share and vent.

Warrior fans can thank MRC Greenwood and RF for our coaching staff and our football team’s current situation. They had wanted to make a change. Doesn’t this sound familiar. Coach Mac won the WAC Championship in 2010. Several games into the 2011 football season, QB Bryant Moniz had a season ending injury. The 2011 season ended with the team having a 6 and 7 losing record. I for one would not have fired the coach for one bad season after winning the WAC Championship the year before. Also, Coach Mac during his contract extension negotiations was willing to take a reduced salary in order to remain at UH with his coaching staff. If you look at what has happened at UH-Manoa you can see that these people have perpetrated change that only they wanted. Why do you think Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw was asked to retire? Why do you think they got rid of AD Jim Donavan? Why did they get rid of Vilify the Warrior? Because they had the power. They called the shots. THEY HIRE WHO THEY WANT!
