Reset

With a bye this week, the Warriors are entering what is considered to be a second training camp. They will work on fixing some schematic problems and reconfiguring the rotation.

The Warriors will have more options for their next two games — both at home, against Lamar and Nevada. They were allowed to travel with 66 players for the USC game, but booked only 64 and ended up taking 63. They will have availability of 108 of their 110 players against Lamar. (Quarterback Cayman Shutter and punter Alex Dunnachie remain on suspension for that game)

But it appears the Warriors might not go that deep. They used only 51 players against the Trojans, including six true freshmen — center Ben Clarke,  tight end Harold Moleni, linebackers Benny Fonua and Lance Williams, cornerback Ne’Quan Phillips and safety Marrell Jackson. (The original box score showed only 38 UH participants.)Although it has been said players are not recruited to redshirt, withholding several freshmen keeps open the redshirt option.

Manoa chancellor Tom Apple,  head coach Norm Chow and all of the assistant coaches were in the economy class for this trip.

For all of the things that the Coliseum had to offer, I kept focusing on these sausage carts. I have no idea what they’re called — grill carts? — but that’s all I could think about for the next couple of hours:

    too bad we aren’t going to play Barkley next year. This is some fuel for the fire.

    “We left a lot of points on the table.”

    “it felt like we could have scored 100 points in the first half.” – Matt Barkley

  35. protector September 3, 2012 7:45 am

    Morning Tsaikos! Thank goodness for the blog, otherwise I would’ve absent-mindedly shown up to an empty school. That darn ginko biloba doesn’t seem to be helping.

  36. wafan September 3, 2012 7:45 am

    Easiest way to take care of that slap is for the Warriors to score 100 on them in the 1st half next year.

  37. wafan September 3, 2012 7:46 am

    protector . . .

    At least you remember to take it.

  38. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 7:47 am

    great catch by Chad Owens…

  39. Chicken Grease September 3, 2012 7:48 am

    “Sausage carts” at USC? You ask a Grease, that sausage cart on, basically, USC turf, makes a ton of sense, oh!!!!! [rimshot!!!!!! (pardon the USC-slanted pun when it comes to mention of “rim”, oh!!!!!!!)].

    Manoa chancellor Tom Apple,  head coach Norm Chow and all of the assistant coaches were in the economy class for this trip.

    Well, this is good. Kinda’ thought they would travel this way — with the team and all.

  40. BigHiloFan2 September 3, 2012 7:49 am

    Will-I-Am on # 34,

    A lot of Trojans are going to experience “payback” for the classless mouthings of a very immature, ungracious and self-absorbed young man. And you know what they say…”Payback” is a b….

  42. protector September 3, 2012 7:52 am

    ST, can you tell me what Alema Tachibana’s status is? Is he still on the team (I hope)?

  43. markazulu September 3, 2012 7:55 am

    A lot of people seem to be impresed lets go out and support our team and rock that stadium like they use to in the 80’s

  44. koakane September 3, 2012 7:57 am

    I’m feeling there will be better days and greater things ahead for the warriors. Not happy with the defeat but which true supporter is. Main thing is to move forward.

    Have a good day peeps, see you all at the 1st tgate in two weeks. Prepare yourselves.

  45. protector September 3, 2012 7:57 am

  46. ryan_12177 September 3, 2012 7:59 am

    It seemed as though we used more than 38 players in that game.. it seemed like new people were in every play…

  47. Da Punchbowl Kid September 3, 2012 8:07 am

    The SC QB might notta even been playin’ if he lived in the real world of breathalyzers and call the police when you hit a bicyclist at a gas station… Just sayin’…

  48. Slugger September 3, 2012 8:08 am

    Good morning, gang!

    See you guys at the Willows lunch. Looking forward to hearing Coach Chow’s evaluation of the game.

    Happy birthday to the birthday babies!

  49. Old School Dave September 3, 2012 8:12 am

    USC always loses a conference game on the road. Be it against OSU, UW, as in years past.

    What’s up with Colorado losing to CSU? I wonder if they’ll be looking for a new coach at the end of this season? CSU could be a sleeper this year with their new coach coming over from Alabama (Sabanizing effect).

  50. myki September 3, 2012 8:17 am

    Hi Pomai,

    We are doing great. Hope you had a great BD. Miss all of you! Can’t wait for T-gate #1!

  51. protector September 3, 2012 8:23 am

    Re: Barkley. He should be a heckuva lot humbler. He didn’t return (like Colt Brennan) for noble reasons. He returned out of cowardice and petty financial reasons; practicality or pragmatism some might say. He knew he would NOT get the big bucks or be a lottery-type pick for 2 big reasons…Andrew Luck and RGIII. They automatically consigned him to a much lower first round pick. He wasn’t about to throw his hat into that “ring” of competition. Who here thinks he woud’ve beaten those 2 guys out to be a Top 3 pick? He would’ve been lucky to even beat out Tannehill in draft status. He knows if he could come back and possibly win a national championship and possibly a Heisman, he could obtain high draft status…maybe. I still say No Heisman and NO championship in his future. Both Alabama or LSU would convincingly beat the Trojans. They could pick up 2 losses just within their own conference.

  52. tom-warriornation September 3, 2012 8:33 am

    TICKETS for Hawaii-SDSU on Oct. 6 at $22 each; sideline around the 5-10 yard line; behind our Warrior bench; so far we have 140 in our group there–come join us–this is a critical conference road game. Fireworks show right after the game!

  53. Capitolist/WassupDoc September 3, 2012 8:34 am

    From late last night:

    For those Tsai-kos who are dissatisfied with the Board of Regents’ actions/lack of actions with respect to President Greenwood, you have several options to take:

    1) Write a letter to the BOR President Eric Martinson expressing your concerns;

    2) Write a letter to Senator Donna Mercado Kim who chairs the committee investigating the issues concerning the WonderBlunder & the ensuing events expressing your concerns;

    3) Write a letter to Governor Neil Abercrombie expressing your concerns – he wants to return the selection of the Regents to the Governor’s Office;

    4) Write a letter to State Representative Mark Takai expressing your concerns – he wants to return the University of Hawai`i System to its former status similar to the DOE or the Department of Taxation as opposed to its current semi-autonomous status;

    4) Contact your incoming state senator and state representative AFTER the General Election expressing your concerns – unless they were elected outright at the Primary;

    5) Send a letter or an Op-Ed piece to the Star-Advertiser expressing your concerns;

    6) Testify at one of the remaining 2012 Board of Regents meetings during the Public Comment section.

    September 5, 2012 Windward Community College

    September 28, 2012 University of Hawai‘i-West O‘ahu

    October 18, 2012 John A. Burns School of Medicine

    November 15, 2012 University of Hawai‘i-Maui College

    In other words, if you do not speak up, everyone who has a say in what will happen will think that the General Public is happy with what has been happening.

    ##############

    A quick addition – a (real) letter is far more powerful than an e-mail. A telephone call is even more powerful. The strongest weapon in conveying your concerns is a face-2-face meeting.

  54. A-joe September 3, 2012 8:44 am

    44. Markazulu- You’re absolutely right! We need to get out to Halawa and support our home team!

    I know exactly what you mean. I just recently saw a picture posted on FB by Brian Derby. It’s an action photo of UH against BYU from the 08’s. In the background you could see the home crowd jam packed in the orange section! There’s only about 16 empty seats. It’s an awesome sight! Brought back good memories!!

    I remember when the crowd would jump/hop up and down on kick-offs and the stadium would literally bounce! Not sure if the structure could handle such a thing today.

  55. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 8:44 am

    Re: Contacting political officials for your concerns.

    It works. At least better than nothing.

    For those that are effected, they are not assisted via political idealism if one completely doesnt agree with the concept of political intervention on something that is supposed ti autonomous.

    When something doesnt work, do what is necessary to help those you are concerned about.

    The goal is to help by any means necessary when push comes to shove.

    A-house,

    no really need the audio…the emotion is still there.

    btw MHO is that the sanctity of the Haka should be reserved for the NZ’ers in situations that they choose to use it. The background story of that video is not even remotely similar to “pumpin’ you up” for a game played between young men….

  70. Kekoa September 3, 2012 9:17 am

    A-house ~ Same Cabana A for every home game. Reserved the entire season. (Pavillion#5 on top is still under repair). Sailor Blue locked it in early!

  71. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 9:18 am

    147 yards for chad owens so far…

    huge game for him the announcers say…

    Go Mighty Mouse!

    But on the other side of the ball, the Hamilton Tigers

    have a kickoff and punt returner even better than chad…

  72. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 9:22 am

    Spectacular one-handed catch by flying Hawaiian Chad Owens

    the announcers said…

  73. SteveM September 3, 2012 9:23 am

    Good morning everyone!

    Go Sausage Cart! 🙄

    …now I’m curious what the side view looks like.

  74. laulau head September 3, 2012 9:29 am

    Just wanna give a shutout to the USC fans that showed us a lot of Aloha, talking story, and inviting us to tailgate with them, including Wayne Henderson, father of USC defensive back, Ryan Henderson, and Greg White, former player with BYU/Utah St. Also chatted with George Miki, who played on the 1992 Rainbow Warrior 1992 Holiday Bowl team. Cool buggah even showed me the bowl ring.

  75. Big Hilo Fan2 September 3, 2012 9:39 am

    Ka Mate. Ka Mate.

    This is death. This is death!

    Kden. Ready to haka. 😀

  76. Stephen Tsai September 3, 2012 9:39 am

    Must admire Lamar’s PR department.

    “Lamar suffers first loss of the season.”

    Of course, it was the opener. But I like the marketing spin.

  77. Stephen Tsai September 3, 2012 9:44 am

    Chow gave his staff the day off, which means he’ll be handling the pointer at Na Koa’s lunch.

  78. Kevin September 3, 2012 9:45 am

    BHF2,

    UH is using the Tika Tonu haka. The only time UH used the popular and common “Ka Mate” was back in 2002 before the Hawaii Bowl w/Tulane.

    Tika tonu Ue!

    Tika tonu Ue!

    Tika tonu atu ki a koe e tama Hiki nei koe aku whakaaro pakia He hiki aha tō hiki

    He hiki aha tō hiki i a ha ha

    E tama te auau ana

    E tama te mārō

    Apparent translation:

    What is this problem you are carrying?

    How long have you been carrying it for?

    Have you got that? Right, let’s go on.

    So son, although it may be difficult for you

    and son, although it seems to be unyielding

    BHF2,

    After the team made their OWN “ha’a” in 2007, I thought we should have kept it going. It was in Hawaiian which suits us better.

    Pomai,

    To your post last night, you know that is just one idiot making noise over there.

  90. Iwonderwhytheyhateme September 3, 2012 10:07 am

    I haven’t been to volleyball game for several years. The SSC looks great and that new screen is beautiful.

    One thing that stood out aside from our passing dementia after the 3rd set was the fan involvement. Fans seem a lot more into the cheering and promo “Fan Cam” things.

    “Everybody clap your hands” song clip and the fans actually clapped together.

  91. Hapamike September 3, 2012 10:08 am

    Thanks for the translation. Had no idea what the words meant. Can I make a suggestion to everyone? I love you all for your input, comments, and for being loyal Warrior fans, but leaving a post just to say good morning or hi…kinda takes away from the content of the blog. Anyone think so?

    UH VS USC: Great job to the defense against the run. Does anyone realize USC didn’t break 100 yards rushing? UH actually out rushed USC if you don’t include the yards lost by sacks. I think at least so far the tackling in the box is better. And this was against USC. I think this will be the strength of the defense this year, stopping the run. Offense did ok. I liked the balance. I think Schroder will be good, kinda like a Dan Robinson feel. And Will Gregory, looked good too. Justin Clap? Remember him? Loved him last year, was only held to one catch, but we know what he can do. So, I’m really eager to see how this team and season unfolds. I think Lamar will be a show case game for UH. GO WARRIORS!

  92. Kevin September 3, 2012 10:14 am

    IWWTHM,

    Oh volleyball commentary? Yeah passing was off and the ladies had a tough night. To use “dementia” though.. hmm.. ok then, how would that have been corrected? Off the serve receive perhaps? What are your feelings about the rotations they played against, one in particular they seemed to have struggled with?

    Any thoughts on the depth at the outside hitter positions? Or what are your detailed thoughts about the differences between Uiato and Stauber? Who may be more effective with setting the middles.

    What are your detailed thoughts about the development of Jade Vorster so far this season?

    Just interested to know since “passing dementia” seems like a diagnosis based off of someone that perhaps may have a lot of insight with respect to a top nationally ranked division one volleyball program that has upheld the University of Hawaii’s reputation on the national stage very well.

  93. Kevin September 3, 2012 10:16 am

    I look forward to your prognosis tomorrow. Today is a holiday.

  94. Iwonderwhytheyhateme September 3, 2012 10:26 am

    I’ll write my expert opinions at seasons end in a white paper. Gonna have to wait, if not, oh well too bad.

  95. markazulu September 3, 2012 10:28 am

    54. Thanks for the mention a house but yeah i seen some old school hawaii videos in the 80s and the crowds were fantastic. I understand times is hard people gotta work and the teams we play are also a factor because the stadium is rocking when we bring in navy, cincinati, notre dame, etc all these big schools but we shojld support the boys like they were playing against the top dog everyweek u wanna be treated like a top team WE habe to act that way i see the players are working hard but what about us fans i mean yeah its convinent to jump on the bandwagon and i personally was born in the early 90s but seeing those crowds on my dads old vhs games gets me jacked up didnt matter who they played the crowd was always alive and rockin i believe in the progress but the one thing besides money that those big schools have an advantage over uh is overall support. I know its hard to cheer when they are

    losing but after what i saw it looks like they are willing to try and make us proud the least we vould dp

  96. markazulu September 3, 2012 10:31 am

    At least go to games and support them for their improved effort! I know a couple people who drive to high school games at the stadium yet dont have anybody playing on that team we need that kimda diehard fandom lol

  97. Iwonderwhytheyhateme September 3, 2012 10:31 am

    Actually dementia is more progressive onset, so wrong word choice. The onset was pretty fast from the 3rd set on. Maybe it was Cals adjustment but the passing just wasn’t there after. 2 and 3 they did really well.

  98. madeinhawaii September 3, 2012 10:42 am

    Computers stolen from Dean’s Hall at UH, eh?

    http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/168347856.html?id=168347856

    In this day and age, people still steal computers and not just laptops?

    Wonder how much it will cost to replace those? Wonder if there are any juicy secret files on the hard drive?

    What’s in Dean’s Hall, anyway?

  99. Kuda September 3, 2012 10:46 am

    Thanks for some other magnificent post. The place else may anybody get that kind of info in such a perfect way of writing? I’ve a presentation next week, and I am at the search for such info.

  100. jr September 3, 2012 10:48 am

    i thingk we need vili or some one like him to pump our team up like he did.

  101. jr September 3, 2012 10:50 am

    i think we need vili or some one like him to pump our team up like he did.

  102. SAWARRIOR September 3, 2012 11:00 am

    how much did we beat USC by?

  103. RedZone September 3, 2012 11:09 am

    It is interesting that Lamar runs some plays similar to UHs including the wildcat. They had a lot of problems with execution and turnovers. I hope that they can do better against UH. I want to see a competitive game. It will make the Warriors better.

  104. jm2375 September 3, 2012 11:11 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

    Kekoa – MWR (or whomever is the branch responsible for the repairs) sound like they slower than the State (DAGS, etc). What has it been, 2 years? I didn’t notice anything going on over there when I drove by a couple of times last month, except for a couple of guys having lunch.

  105. Hilo Moon September 3, 2012 11:12 am

    Aloha to all– I don’t think a “Good Morning” or any kind of greeting “takes away from the content of the blog”, even if it’s the only thing said. I don’t think it’s just me that feels like this.

  106. wafan September 3, 2012 11:13 am

    Good afternoon everyone!

  107. wafan September 3, 2012 11:14 am

    Looking forward to the lunch report.

  108. d1shima(Galaxy 'd) September 3, 2012 11:15 am

    Good crowd at Willows.

    Waiting for Coach Chow.

    Chow now

    I don’t think so either, and having said that, GOOD AFTERNOON HAWAII!

    GO WARRIORS!

    GO WAHINE!

  110. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 11:59 am

    We were going to go to hear coach Chow, but decided to stay home and watch McIlroy win the golf tournament instead. On a strict Slim-Fast diet anyway. Trying real hard to avoid temptation like the buffet at the Willows.

  111. RedZone September 3, 2012 11:59 am

    Ohayou gozaimasu coach Kaumeyersan. I know that you will have the defense ready for Lamar.

    Go Warriors!

  112. Capitolist/WassupDoc September 3, 2012 12:18 pm

    We have two giveaways – the first is a beautiful but way too large (XL) dark green Under Armour polo-style shirt celebrating 100 years of UH football. I won it here on the blog about two years ago. The sleeves start just above my elbows so if there is a generously-built person who’d like it, I can bring it to either the T-Gate on September 15 or to one of the volleyball matches this weekend. See below for contact-me information.

    The other item: DrDoc, who is the treasurer of the Waimanalo Health Center, has to attend their annual membership meeting on Thursday, September 27, so his volleyball ticket is also available to give away. We sit four rows above the concourse right in the middle of The Stan opposite the teams. Protector also sits with us. There are at least two non-season-ticket seats available directly above, below or next to the three of us.

    If you’d like either/both the shirt and the ticket, please send an e-mail with your real name and contact information including a phone number to swood at hoku dot com.

  113. wafan September 3, 2012 12:32 pm

    Checked the OC16 site and cannot find the show on the schedule. Is this the correct site: http://www.oc16.tv/?

  114. Pauoa Boy September 3, 2012 12:50 pm

    The only thing I was wondering about the game was how come JHT hardly was in the first half. Also, seemed like our corners were isolated a lot with no help over the top from the safetys.

  115. Stephen Tsai September 3, 2012 12:55 pm

    Can I make a suggestion to everyone? I love you all for your input, comments, and for being loyal Warrior fans, but leaving a post just to say good morning or hi…kinda takes away from the content of the blog. Anyone think so?

    I disagree. Our top 10 (20, 50) adds to the family atmosphere. And it must not take anything away because the number of hits/views is phenomenal. We are far and away the most viewed blog. I think more blogs should aspire to have the knowledgeable and friendly participation that we have. Besides, if we weren’t so popular, we wouldn’t be attracting so many trolls, either. Even they recognize our reach.

    OK, now we’ll go back to being humble.

  116. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 1:00 pm

    Good Afternoon Tsai and fellow Tsaikos.

  117. Stephen Tsai September 3, 2012 1:00 pm

    Pauoa Boy:

    Hardy-Tuliau has missed a lot of practice because of a hamstring problem.

    He just wasn’t able to get it to feel right in the first half, so he didn’t play then. But he played some in the second half. He’ll remain at safety/nickel.

  118. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 1:01 pm

    😆

  119. Stephen Tsai September 3, 2012 1:01 pm

    Justin Vele also has had some health issues.

    They like him, but he won’t get into the rotation until he is fully healthy.

    There’s a lot of time. He’s only a freshman.

  120. islandman September 3, 2012 1:01 pm

    Schroeder did an unbelievable job dodging all the rushers and still being able to pass and stay in the whole game. I think UH had one too many quarterback runs after faking to the running back.

    Hadden seems to be kicking better this year. Maybe they should keep Harding as a punter, then he can take off running or passing sometimes. But he did a great job as punter, returner, receiver and holder.

    Defense looked good at times and also the special teams, except for the speed of USC’s Lee which made like grasping at a greased pig.

  121. walter September 3, 2012 1:02 pm

    good afternoon 🙂

  122. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 1:04 pm

    btw luved hapamike’s comment:

    “Does anyone realize USC didn’t break 100 yards rushing?”

    I did not know that. Please continue to post your thoughts and

    observations, you are revelant, too.

  127. oldie September 3, 2012 1:11 pm

    Re-watched the game with audio by Bobby Curran and John Veneri. Thought they did a good job. Much improved from last year.

  128. BigHiloFan2 September 3, 2012 1:14 pm

    we played 51, not 38, no?

    and Chow said Schroeder get guts too, right?

    and he was impressed by Harding kicking and running and catching anykine, right?

    and dat Beau was yapping it up, right?

  132. Stephen Tsai September 3, 2012 1:28 pm

  134. PowderPuff September 3, 2012 1:32 pm

    Nice seeing so many Tsaikos at the Nā Koa Coach’s Luncheon…AND the Head Tsaiko himself, too. Good to have a holiday on a Monday!! Gigi, was looking forward to meeting you, and with the Golf Channel replaying the final round now, you could’ve come. Nah, I understand about the diet thing too.

    I don’t watch football in an uber-technical way, so I have to say I loved the shot on TV of Coach Chow giving the refs hell. YEAH! 🙂 I wanted to ask him what he was telling the refs…but oh well, I can just imagine. That might be better.

    WarriorNY – e-mailed you. Not gonna see ST’s Jets…the other NY team. 🙁

  135. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 1:33 pm

  137. RedZone September 3, 2012 1:41 pm

    Coach Chow do not forget to take a break too. Got to recharge the batteries.

  138. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 1:44 pm

    Hi PowderPuff. Yeah, the diet thing changed our mind. Gotta lose the excess baggage, by golly! If I had gone to the Willows, I would have asked Chow about that trick play that the refs nullified. Who’s idea was it? Has that trick play ever been done before?

  139. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 1:46 pm

    Big Virginia Tech qb is 6’6″ ex tight end…

  140. Pomai September 3, 2012 1:51 pm

    I know we have talked about this before but I am working on a project and would like some input from all the tsaikos. I would like to know who you think is the all time best in each of the sports at UH, so first lets do the mens sports.

    Baseball

    Basket ball

    Football

    Golf

    Swimming

    Tennis

    Volleyball

  141. tommui September 3, 2012 2:03 pm

    Re POMAI #140

    Baseball – Tatsuno

    Basketball – Bob Nash

    Football – Colt Brennen

    Golf –

    Swimming

    Tennis

    Volleyball – Yuval Katz

  142. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:05 pm

    tommui, I agree with you about the best UH player in history

    on golf, swimming and tennis…

  143. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:06 pm

    I googled and googled and could not find UH info on tennis before 2009…

    🙄

  144. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:09 pm

    Ha! i took swimming and tennis at UH during summer session and got a B for swimming and a C for tennis. Sure brought down my GPA.

  145. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:12 pm

    Ipu: tennis was offered back in the 1960s at UH.

  146. tommui September 3, 2012 2:15 pm

    GIGI re #146

    I had PE tennis at UH somewhere around 1950-1954!

  147. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:15 pm

    You can get college credit for swimming?

  148. Stephen Tsai September 3, 2012 2:17 pm

    Manoa#1

    You seem like a smart guy with good insights.

    But nobody is calling anybody out, and certainly we can all choose to agree or disagree without losing our tempers.

    Anyway, I don’t know if anybody apologized or didn’t apologize, but it’s all water under the bridge.

    Fresh start begins now.

    No need to hug it out.

  149. tommui September 3, 2012 2:19 pm

    #142 I never saw Red Rocha play and so I couldn’t comment whether he was the “best” or not. All those I mention were players I saw from my UH days (1950) to present date.

  150. PowderPuff September 3, 2012 2:21 pm

    Took Golf at UH and got an “A.” 🙂 I was so junk, I swore I would never swing a club again.

  151. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:22 pm

    Hubby played pick up basketball with the great Wilt Chamberlain during the early 70s one on one. Imagine that! Wilt was over 7 feet tall. He had retired from the Lakers by then and was in town to play volleyball.

  152. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:23 pm

    I think I went to college too early…

  153. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:23 pm

    Ah memories! Fun times at UH.

    PP, what are you saying? You were junk and still got an A??? Sheesh.

  154. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:25 pm

    Heard Wilt was a gentleman. He had a condo kittycorner of the Hilton.

    Is he the one who said he broke his leg in an elevator accident?

  155. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:25 pm

    I think kids nowadays are too concerned about grades. They should branch out and take classes during summer session that stretch their abilities.

    Heck, I took Drawing (ART) and got a C but what fun I had during that summer.

  156. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:26 pm

    Ipu: hubby said Wilt bragged about sleeping with 20,000 women. Read his book.

  157. Kekoa September 3, 2012 2:28 pm

    Pomai ~

    Re: Best UH player in history.

    I couldah been a contendah! (Tsai)…too much running in one spot among other things.

  158. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:29 pm

    Maybe that’s why he’s dead?

  159. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:30 pm

  160. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:32 pm

    hmmm. Ipu, can a guy die from having too much sex? Dunno bout dat.

  161. PowderPuff September 3, 2012 2:32 pm

    Gigi, the grades were based on the rules of golf, and it was one written test, I think. But swinging the club at the then-Cooke Field, the head broke off a club when I swung it. So I was scarred from that incident. That was one of the very few As I got at UH – so sad.

  162. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:36 pm

    PP, that’s funny. My final exam in tennis, I had to serve. Well the ball went straight up and then down, did not even clear the net. No wonder I got a C.

  163. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:36 pm

    PP…you must have also broke the heart of your teacher who felt sorry for you…

    That was a lousy break. Did it break off in mid air, or did you hit a lot of turf with it?

  164. PowderPuff September 3, 2012 2:38 pm

    Sheesh, that’s hard…I would’ve flunked that. You should’ve taken Golf. 🙂

  165. PowderPuff September 3, 2012 2:40 pm

    Ipu, I think I took some ‘aina with it. Haha! 🙂 He did feel sorry for me. He tried to explain that I was probably using a very old club that was rotted and it was bound to come off at some point. So, I never touched a club for a super long time…my friend with whom I took the class, I think she was scarred too because she has never touched a club since that class. HAHA!

  166. Haleakala September 3, 2012 2:44 pm

    Big East officials could not have been very happy with the performance of the teams that they have invited and will be joining in the future. The record this past week was 1 win and 6 losses!

    Joining in 2013 – UCF, SMU, Houston, Memphis, Boise State, San Diego State

    UCF 56 Akron 14

    SMU 24 Baylor 59

    Houston 13 Texas State 30

    Memphis 17 Tenn-Martin 20

    Boise State 14 Michigan State 17

    San Diego State 12 Washington 21

    Joining in 2015 – Navy

    Navy 10 Notre Dame 50

  167. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 2:51 pm

    PP, I would love to take golf lessons. Kekoa was very sweet to give me a set of golf clubs, and my uncle gave hubby a set of clubs, too.

    We’ve been practicing at the driving range at Pearl Country Club. Still not good enough to play on the course.

  168. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 2:56 pm

    Tiger Woods played one his greatest games today but still lost…

  169. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 3:01 pm

    Ipu: Tiger is laughing all the way to the bank. He is the first golfer to win over $100 million so far in his life.

  170. Stephen Tsai September 3, 2012 3:03 pm

    Gigi:

    Wilt said some of his encounters occurred in airplane rest rooms.

    I doubt that.

    Those things are so small, you can barely turnaround.

  171. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 3:05 pm

    ST, I guess Wilt liked to exaggerate!

    He and hubby played at Klum together.

    Those were the days.

  172. PowderPuff September 3, 2012 3:06 pm

    Oooh shucks….all this talk about golf, anyone available on Thursday, September 6th? The UH Men’s Volleyball Team is having its Golf Tournament at Olomana. Noon shotgun start…those interested in playing, or donating prizes, please e-mail Coach Wade at cwade@hawaii.edu.

  173. kapakahi September 3, 2012 3:12 pm

    #117,

    Like Coach said, makes sense to keep JHT at safety…..especially ‘cuz very unlikely to see the likes of a WR duo like Woods & Lee again…..at least the rest of this season.

  174. Moocher September 3, 2012 3:19 pm

    there is a difference between sharing an opinion and purposefully trying to instigate tempers.

    It’s pretty sad in this day and age where a grown person will revert back to being a child and acting like a child where instead of hiding behind their mother’s skirt, they hide behind the darkness or the anonymity of the Internet.

    Like they say, cockroaches like the dark…you expose them and they will only run away and try to hide again…in the age of the Internet, that means choosing a new screen name.

    gangee, nevermind the “manoa roach” and others aliases…..it’s easy to get emotionally lit so let us not give ’em any crumbs to survive on.

    🙂

    ok that somebody was me…sorry for my wrong. but i felt they was calling me out.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Manoa#1 ~
    An invitation to our T-gate was taken as a “calling out?” Nevah mind den. No come if you just want to continue to dazzle us with your vast knowledge of UH sports and the players. We get it. You act as if NONE of us here ever played the game, coached the game, or have any insight to the game these days.
    Have your ever thought for just one second that we don’t always like to discuss the down and dirty details of the sport? We’ve all been down that road, and sometimes it can lead to critical remarks made about the players and or the coaches. Remarks left better unsaid. General comments that provide for positive discussion or observations leave a better flavor to the blog. The heavy baggage is for the coaches to lift at practice. Let them do their jobs.
    Celebrate the good things that happened at the game. Tell us about the atmosphere you experienced while you watched the games and share your experiences. Celebrate your favorite food or beverage stop on the way to or from a game. That’s what so cool about what happens on this blog. We like to unleash the whole flavor of UH sports out to share with each other. The links, the photos, the neat side glances of our Warriors in action.
    With that said, never forget that some of the moms, dads, aunts and Uncles of our players are dedicated readers of our blog. Be mindful, and respectful to the contribution they have made in sending their son or daughter to our school, and watch your language.
    GO WARRIORS!
  176. Construction Company Jaipur September 3, 2012 3:23 pm
    Thanks , I have just been searching for information approximately this topic for a while and yours is the greatest I have found out till now. However, what about the conclusion? Are you positive in regards to the source?|What i don’t realize is in reality how you’re not actually a lot more well-liked than you might be now. You’re so intelligent.
  177. Ipu Man September 3, 2012 3:25 pm
  178. Moocher September 3, 2012 3:28 pm
    Kekoa….
    cannot talk straight common sense to one manoa roach. they don’t understand what a brain and heart is all about….that’s why roaches can survive nuclear radiation–they not human.
    if you keep the kitchen clean and don’t give any crumbs, one manoa roach will disappear.
  179. wafan September 3, 2012 3:28 pm
    Well said, Kekoa.
    Many thanks!
  180. Moocher September 3, 2012 3:31 pm
    yes, well said
  181. tommui September 3, 2012 3:33 pm
    KEKOA:
    The USC game impressed me as to the fine work Coach Chow has done and the discipline and demeanor of our players.
    Promptly renewed my pay-for-view!
    (Understand that the handicap area around the concourse has been fully taken for the last upteen years)
  182. tommui September 3, 2012 3:36 pm
    #170 ST – The former Senator from Idaho sort of managed it!
  183. Kekoa September 3, 2012 3:38 pm
    Gigi ~
    You and hubby should go to Bay View GC. First, hit a bucket of balls on their range. Then, play that small par 3 course they just re-designed. It’s inexpensive, and it’s a short course that I know you would enjoy.
    From your house over the H-3 to Kaneohe in less then 25 minutes. It’s perfect for getting your game to the next level. Hey soon you can tell us about hanging out with Tiger Woods at the next Tourney!
  184. wafan September 3, 2012 3:39 pm
    The potato senator was in a restroom on land.
  185. wafan September 3, 2012 3:42 pm
    Random thought.
    Why do they call it a terminal? Not really someplace I would want to intentionally arrive.
  186. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 3:42 pm
    Kekoa, just told hubby what you said about the par 3 course. We might do that.
  187. d1shima September 3, 2012 3:44 pm
    Tsaiko Truth, Kekoa. Nice.
  188. Kekoa September 3, 2012 3:46 pm
    Tom ~
    Yes they have sold out. If you would like to attend at least one game, say the BSU game, please let me know. I can get you a seat right next to mine on the concourse in the South EZ. When you walk in gate #4 at the main entrance, just walk a few steps straight ahead, up that little ramp, and the seat is right there. Bring your own comfortable chair if you like, because those folding chairs suck! Oh and handicap parking is available right by the Post Office next to gate #4.
  189. gigi-hawaii September 3, 2012 3:51 pm
    We bought pay per view too. Trouble is we will be in India during the Fresno State and Boise State games. Hubby wants to know how to record those games. He tried last year, but Oceanic wouldn’t let him.
  190. Kekoa September 3, 2012 3:52 pm
    Moocher ~ 😎
  191. wafan September 3, 2012 3:54 pm
    Getting close to bedtime — teachers first day tomorrow. Another full day of inane ramblings.
    Oh well.
    The big day is Wednesday!
  192. Ayyapillai September 3, 2012 3:56 pm
    Gigi, you cannot tape the live pay per view broadcast unless you physically start the dvr just before the game itself starts. The trick to get around this used to be to tape the rebroadcast on Sundays on KFive. Not sure there will be a re-broadcast this year since the rights may have changed.
    Chad Owens is putting up crazy numbers in the CFL this season.
    But Owens capped a day in which he set a franchise record with 402 combined yards with an 18-yard catch, part of the final drive that set up Swayze Waters’ third field goal, from 34 yards, to give Toronto a 33-30 win.
    “That is the turning point of the season” said Owens, who finished with 11 catches for 176 yards.
    mahalo ST for the update on JHT…I figured as such but good he got some action in the second half. Hope he is healthy cause we need him to make plays. I think the defense will be fine. I like Yap he’s got a good motor for being on the smaller side of being a DE. My man Tony got caught a few times but I think for the most part he, Edwards, and Phillips did a decent job. Playing against probably the top 2 receivers in all of college football I still think they did a good job. Yeah they got burned a few times but aside from that I loved the aggressivness in man coverage. They stayed tight for a good portion, but talent like that you cannot stop, they will get there’s. Anyway, a little more fine tuning and they will be fine. Schroeder is okay, he has the poise but he is surely not mobile at all and needs to make his reads quicker at times. The Oline needs to block better but some of those sacks couldve been avoided if he got rid of the ball quicker or moved in the pocket better. Anyway, hopefully things will click soon. They need to go out and murder Lamar next game.
    I think Tom Mui’s comment in #193 points out a problem with PPV. Most fans who purchase the package may want to go to a game but feel they are wasting their money since they are already paying for the telecast of the game.
    UHAD and Oceanic need to work together to encourage PPV purchasers to attend games. A PPV purchaser should be offered a discount for any game they attend. Oceanic should then turn off viewing of the game for that fan.
    Everybody wins. Oceanic wins as there is no loss of revenue. UH wins as there will be at last one (or more) fan(s) at the game. Instead of zero revenue from that fan, there will at least some, even if the ticket is heavily discounted.
    Offesne.
    Chow is a real craftsman in designing plays. He takes into account the players’ abilities whether it’s the QB, RB, FB, TEs, WRs, FLs, LT, LG, C, RG, RT and comes up with schemes that gives everyone a chance to succeed in their roles.
    He’s a Grand Master in play calling on the level of a Bobby Fischer. I’m anxious to see his weekly designs and moves. I’m sure he’ll use every once of talent on his team. This should keep everyone, from the top of the depth chart to the bottom, motivated to give their best effort in practice. Work hard and Chow will find a role for you in a play.
    I’ll admit I wasn’t thrilled we hired a 65 yr old career assistant. Now I’m all in. Thank you Rockne for pushing your choice through. Right man at the right time….hmmm this might apply to the Rock too.
  241. SAWARRIOR September 3, 2012 8:21 pm
    re#240
    Defense.
    I would like to add that the defense played the run VERY well. The DL took up alot of space and allowed the LB’s to make plays. Only one long run from scrimmage for a TD and held usc below a 100 yards rushing. Pretty impressive for one game experience in this new system. It would be great if we could add more pressure on pass plays. Again, only one game under our belt in the new system against a veteran offensive line. Defense looks promising and there are alot of talented young men waiting their turn to make a play.
    I’m excited about our defense and am anticipating the day when our offense “GETS IT” and turns the corner.
    volleyball is the hardest to pick. so many great ones, however, outstanding for me comes from the alma mater who was brought up by my uncle longy.
    robyn ah mow-santos has proven that athletic skill, perserverance, smarts, and the passion for game will produce results such as she. she being an all-stater three times (or was it four?), all american, olympic and international volleyball star, a mother who still pursued and achieved her bachelor’s degree all the while taking care of the aforementioned and who now gives back to the program as a full time assistant coach (probably for years to come). that is outstanding.
  264. Chicken Grease September 4, 2012 12:02 am
    Good night fair Warrior fans, Tsaikos, all.
    We look forward, yes, to the rest of the season and we appreciate this time for Coach Chow, staff, and players to rest and make any necessary adjustments in order to succeed in the remaining schedule.
    To a Grease? And, I hope from all of ya’ll’s point-of-view as well? The result of this past weekend’s game made them act and talk — lack of composed act (did someone notice Coach Kiffin’s slamming to the ground of a clipboard?) And lack of respectable talk (i.e., b!tch Barley’s “100 points before the half comment, for starters) we, and USC (fans, players, coaches, all) might agree upon.
    And we wish them luck in winning every single one of their games this season, as expected of the [oooh, a Grease has a difficult time refashioning such honor, Grease coming from a great, not at all within top 25 team’s fanbase] the # 1 team in the country. May they “ooooooh” themselves, as a Honey Boo-Boo might express.
    Indeed, luck and good fortune that they win all of their games this season . . . lest we share a great laugh instead.
    Howzit, gang!
    So anxious for the rest of this season to play out. For some reason, it felt like the USC game was kinda like a scrimmage. Not meaning to sound bad or negative about it, but it was an excellent stick to plant into the ground, to measure our progress from this point forward.
    Don’t know what our injury report looked like after the game, but I’d mentioned a couple of days ago, that it seemed like Schroeder’s knee brace did it’s job, with all the hits he took. Also don’t know how it might (or might not) affect mobility. As hard hitting as that game was, it’s amazing that I didn’t see any game stoppage for injuries.
  273. Kekoa September 4, 2012 5:27 am
    Just wanted to echo the “Tsaiko” sentiment…
    Like any big ‘ohana, there are disagreements. But there is a ton of respect between everyone here. That’s why we can (usually) agree to disagree, and still greet each other and move on. No grudges held longer than the next snap of the football.
    Some are very optimistic of everything, while others hold half-empty glasses. But everyone’s ideas and opinions are welcome (and scrutinized). No big deal.
    We are supportive not only of those student-athletes and coaches who choose to represent us, but also of each other… in every way imaginable. This goes far beyond faceless blog names.
    So, if you get a chance to join in on any of the many “events” that happen within this beloved Tsaiko community… by all means, participate!
