Welcome to Warrior camp

Smell that?

Football is in the air.

The first Warrior practice is at 2:10 p.m., but expect the players and the coaches to wander there before that. No pads for the first couple of days, and no double days until next week, if then.

Here are some storylines:

• Quarterback: It’s a three-person competition among David Graves, Jeremy Higgins and Sean Schroeder. Expect a decision on a No. 1 guy before the Warriors head to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in a week. Also, keep an eye on Cayman Shutter, who is in camp. He won’t be eligible to play until the fifth game, but he needs to be kept in the loop because 1) he’s a fourth-year junior and 2) he’s only had a week of spring ball in this new offense.

• Center: Ben Clarke was named No. 1 in the spring, but that was before the arrival of Kapua Sai, who can play all of the line positions. Sai has a year of experience in this offense at Utah, where Norm Chow was the offensive coordinator last year. Don’t count out Kody Afusia, either.

• Tight end: Craig Cofer emerged as that tough-blocking tight end with surprisingly sure hands during the spring. (UH fans, please Google: Chad Lewis.) The coaches are hopeful Darius Bright will make the transition from wideout. Ryan Hall, who transferred from Duke, is the only Warrior on the roster with Division I experience as a tight end.

• Punter: Running back Joey Iosefa and Z receiver Scott Harding will get work work there.

* * * * *

Defensive end Quenton Brown still needs to complete a class before joining the Warriors. It looks like he won’t be ready for the 2012 season. But the Warriors are holding the scholarship, and he is expected to join in January.

Know those irritating reporters who always tweet updates from practice?

I’m going to be that guy.

    First!

  3. Da Punchbowl Kid August 2, 2012 8:26 am

Sorry, “first day of practice” that should read above. I KNEW that I was the second poster. 😆

  4. Wes'side Warrior August 2, 2012 8:27 am

I trust that our coaches will put the right people in the right places, and we’ll get it done. We need to finalize things quick so we can establish cohesion.

    Can’t wait!

    Yes, In Chow, I Chhhhhhrustttt!

  5. Da Punchbowl Kid August 2, 2012 8:37 am

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  6. chawan_cut August 2, 2012 8:39 am

    sniff sniff…

    smells good to me!

  7. Padron August 2, 2012 8:40 am

With his significant playing experience, perhaps the best position for Kapua Sai might be left tackle where no one with game experience returns.

  8. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 8:43 am

    Padron:

True that. That’s a competitive spot. Blake Muir is there. Also, Mike Milovale has made it, we’re told.

I’m learning about this active roster every hour.

  9. wafan August 2, 2012 8:43 am

    Thursday!

  10. gigi-hawaii August 2, 2012 8:44 am

Sounds good to me! Can’t wait for the first game. Still worried about the punter situation, though.

  11. wafan August 2, 2012 8:45 am

    Up and at ’em Warriors!

  12. Da Punchbowl Kid August 2, 2012 8:47 am

Chow’s a master of working with what he has and making it good. Hope the players do their best and give their best. That’s all we can ask for. In Chow, and in Warriors, we trust!

    Gratz to al and Sean.

  13. madeinhawaii August 2, 2012 8:48 am

Dunno… I month seems awfully short to prepare for USC… hope for an injury free camp and a bunch of pleasand surprises.

Boise State opens against Michigan State, then BYU, and Miami(Ohio)… think any of those three will give Boise their first loss of the season?

  14. mo808 August 2, 2012 8:52 am

Good Morning! 30 more wakeups and 5 Saturdays! Go Warriors!

  15. mo808 August 2, 2012 8:54 am

Congrats to Sean and Al! Hey JM, howzit?

  16. Sean August 2, 2012 8:58 am

Good morning and thank you for the shirt! I would like to bless HawaiianBod with this. I’ve never met him but would hope this blessing will speed up his recovery.

    Many blessings to you sir!

    Go Warriors!!

  17. haka August 2, 2012 9:02 am

    Go Warriors!

    Puka da Trojans!

  18. A-joe August 2, 2012 9:02 am

“Redd, a junior, is a major upgrade and will balance an attack led by Barkley and touchdown-machine wide receivers Robert Woods and Marqise Lee.”

    ~Steve Henson, Yahoo! Sports

I can’t wait to see our D get unleashed at the Coliseum. I wanna see that worried sick look on the Trojan nation faces in the 3rd and 4th quarters as they realize we’re not push overs and their national championship dreams have all but disappeared in the first game of the season.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!

  19. haka August 2, 2012 9:05 am

    Ditto A-joe!

  20. wafan August 2, 2012 9:08 am

    Congratulations to Sean and al.

    Huzzah!

  21. kapakahi August 2, 2012 9:16 am

    Any update on Ronnie Fields?

  22. jimmy the lock August 2, 2012 9:24 am

    Work hard Warriors!

Way to go Gabby! Ippon! Awesome races in the Olympic pool! USA! USA! USA!

  23. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 9:29 am

    No update on Fields.

    They’re awaiting transcripts, I think.

But he is in town, and he has cut his hair.

  24. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 9:31 am

There is only one football. So if Redd is holding it, then Barkley isn’t throwing it.

At least UH knows it will be getting USC’s best. Don’t think the Trojans will be trying to hold the score down.

  25. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 9:32 am

And, at least, UH knows what it’s getting in the opener.

There’s enough footage and info on USC out there.

Lamar is a different story. Unless Dennis McKnight starts tweeting.

  26. Da Punchbowl Kid August 2, 2012 9:36 am

Tanks for dat #18 post, Hawaiian! Get da koko percolating like KK’s kope in da morning!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  27. letsgowarriors August 2, 2012 9:37 am

    so no jordan monico?

  28. Da Punchbowl Kid August 2, 2012 9:38 am

New league, new coaching staff, new roster, new acting AD… the question is, how does the blog host feel on the first day of fall camp?

  29. Last Call August 2, 2012 9:43 am

They could prepare for USC for a year an it wouldn’t matter.

  30. Annoddah Dave August 2, 2012 9:44 am

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:

We are getting closer and closer!

    Go Warriors!

  31. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 9:46 am

    No Jordan Monico.

    No Rykin Enos.

    No Jordan Gomes.

  32. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 9:47 am

On the other hand, USC could prepare for a year and wouldn’t beat LSU.

    It’s all relative.

  33. letsgowarriors August 2, 2012 9:48 am

thanks. damn thats crazy, Monico and Gomes got tons of PT the past 2 seasons. Gomes even played on D in the dime packages.

  34. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 9:53 am

Gomes was on track to getting a lot of playing time — and a scholarship — before he suffered that knee injury.

I do feel for guys who have been in the program and don’t get to complete the journey. But that’s what happens when there’s a coaching change — and there were many people who wanted a coaching change. It’s no secret there were people within the Lower Campus who sought change; I think some were surprised they would be part of the collateral damage.

  35. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 9:55 am

I remember Gomes relinquished an engineering scholarship because he was supposed to be getting a football scholarship. It was an unfortunate injury in many ways.

But the guy is really talented. We’ll be downloading his music on iTunes one day.

  36. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 9:58 am

Jordan Monico was a pretty effective kickoff-coverage guy in 2010.

Before that, Mike Wadsworth was that guy. We know how that story turned out.

  37. letsgowarriors August 2, 2012 10:00 am

at least we still got Charles Clay, haha.

  41. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 10:06 am

    Hey, it’s a numbers game.

It’s like the old Pat Riley theory of having 12 players, playing eight, trusting six, or whatever formula he had.

The roster is going to be tight this year. It was supposed to be 102, but it might only be 100, maybe a little less.

The difference is that most will be playing. There won’t be many practice-only players.

  42. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 10:11 am

    Speaking of Hunter S. Thompson:

John Wilbur let me interview the legendary author. It was a strange deal, because I had to wait for a call in the hotel bar, then give a password, before I was allowed up to the room. And, lo and behold, he was drinking and smoking with Sean Penn. Fascinating guy.

  58. d1shima August 2, 2012 12:12 pm

Thank goodness basketball actually keeps score on the court. I’d hate to see the US games “judged” by the likes of those creeps who are scoring boxing! 👿

…more than doubled up on NGR in the 4th, up by 68.

  59. Warrior Dave August 2, 2012 12:17 pm

Congrats Al & Sean!! Wear those shirts proudly!!

  60. Bowwar August 2, 2012 12:26 pm

  61. Wes'side Warrior August 2, 2012 12:29 pm

    Happy birthday, Rob25!

    Gratz to da winnahs!

  62. Shoko August 2, 2012 12:35 pm

MSU favored by 7.5 points against the donkeys. However, the line is dropping…at the moment.

USA Coaches Poll came out today. LSU is at the number one spot followed by Alabama then USC.

It’s down to six. Justin alo moved to receiver.

  65. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 1:32 pm

    Chinedu Amadi is punting

  66. jimmy the lock August 2, 2012 1:38 pm

Amadi is one of those guys when he was a kid would punt the ball and run, and then catch his own punt.

  67. haka August 2, 2012 1:40 pm

    Good luck to Alo!

    Go Warriors!

  68. A-joe August 2, 2012 1:45 pm

It’s always a good sign when your lineman look as if they were born with shoulder pads on.

  69. Bugaz August 2, 2012 1:46 pm

And so it begins…earn your spot fellas!!!

  70. Shoko August 2, 2012 1:47 pm

Can Justin throw the ball and catch his own pass?

  71. haka August 2, 2012 1:50 pm

the best is to recover your own fumble.

  72. cheepono August 2, 2012 1:53 pm

so clark evans retired from football?

  73. Da Punchbowl Kid August 2, 2012 1:57 pm

Tried kicking and catching my own punt before – not easy. After the third straight time, the ball hit me in the face, I stopped trying.

  74. jimmy the lock August 2, 2012 2:00 pm

    @Da Punchbowl Kid

Were you at least able to punt the ball? I keed, I keed!

  79. d1shima August 2, 2012 2:43 pm

    duffer,

    How did Cassy do today?

  80. kapakahi August 2, 2012 2:50 pm

Must be that Alo would rather give it a shot at playing WR for Warriors…..than transfer back to Cali to play QB for ECC…..although there’s still a few weeks left to make that decision.

Displayed good athleticism as a Carson Colt in 2010.

  81. koakane August 2, 2012 3:03 pm

    Coach Chow you up next.

  86. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 3:23 pm

The O-line is LT Muir, LG Sai, C Clarke, RG Lefotu, RT Shigematsu.

  87. wafan August 2, 2012 3:26 pm

Looks like things are shaping up.

  88. haka August 2, 2012 3:29 pm

    me likee dat o-line!

    go warriors!

  89. AllG August 2, 2012 3:31 pm

    Which Sai at LG?

  90. haka August 2, 2012 3:32 pm

    kapua

  91. WarriorNY August 2, 2012 3:34 pm

That O-line is going to be a huge strength for us…

  92. ai-eee-soos August 2, 2012 3:34 pm

    O-line ramblings and musings …..

Looking good …. yes, shaping up.

  93. A-joe August 2, 2012 3:35 pm

    90. Hawaiian, dat reminds me- this weekend I going ask Rob25 fo give us her best “Zina, Warrior Princess” battle cry. =)

  94. MU August 2, 2012 3:36 pm

    Go warriors!

  95. wafan August 2, 2012 3:37 pm

What? Rob25 is going to dress like Zina, too?

  96. ai-eee-soos August 2, 2012 3:38 pm

… Sai, Lefotu, Shigematsu have game experience.

  97. A-joe August 2, 2012 3:39 pm

    101. I’ll ask… =)

  98. kapakahi August 2, 2012 3:45 pm

    Chauncy Winchester-Makainai?

  99. Buffoman August 2, 2012 3:46 pm

    DPK,

You know how to drop kick? If you do, and I bet plenty of the young ones don’t know what or how for do ’em, you like me pretty damn old. We used to do that all the time when we played tackle ball in da park. I wonder if one drop kick is still counted as 3 points for one field goal?

  100. Buffoman August 2, 2012 3:47 pm

What’s the average height and weight across the o-line, tackle to tackle?

  101. haka August 2, 2012 3:53 pm

    looks like about 6’4″ – 300 with that line-up

  102. Derek August 2, 2012 3:55 pm

I think Blake Muir will be one of the best surprises. He’s just going to get better and better with each practice, with each scrimmage, with each game. And he’s still growing, still getting stronger, etc. Like the other OLs they need to perfect their technique and need to get nasty. The offensive line will be a big key against USC and going forward.

  103. John Fitzgerald Byers August 2, 2012 3:58 pm

Coach Bud and the soccer program will have a nice facility to boast to local and mainland recruits and facilities count for a lot in landing recruits for all sports. All credit goes to the Clarence TC Ching Foundation for setting the standard at lower campus and taking care of the young men and women that play for UH. Lord knows someone had to step up instead of focusing on cutting cutting and shortchanging sports programs and handcuffing UH caoches left and right.

  104. Shoko August 2, 2012 4:00 pm

    Nice size O-line.

  105. duffer August 2, 2012 4:04 pm

    d1,

Shot a 69 and lost by two shots. 🙁

  106. Buffoman August 2, 2012 4:05 pm

If that o-line can get their technique pretty much down to how coaches expect them to perform, we could move the ball. Must be exciting times for the folks. Looking forward to the new season. Winning would be terrific, but I am looking forward to see how the team smoothly transitions to a whole new discipline and philosophy. If that goes well in year one, the future would start to look brighter.

  107. WarriorNY August 2, 2012 4:12 pm

    @117 Buffoman,

You’re absolutely right. The future will look bright.. I think our 2013 team is going to be one of the best we’ve ever had…

  108. WarriorNY August 2, 2012 4:14 pm

Is anyone at practice? How are the QB’s looking?

  109. haka August 2, 2012 4:17 pm

upright and honed to protect going backwards,

    down and dirty,

they will learn to destroy moving forward!

    go o-line!

    go warriors!

  110. HawaiiMongoose August 2, 2012 4:19 pm

Yep, 2012 will be a transition year but there’s a lot of talented youth on this team and with a year of experience in Coach Chow’s system they could be formidable in 2013.

And by the way, we open the 2013 season at home against none other than USC.

  111. Shoko August 2, 2012 4:25 pm

All I know is that Higgins took the first snap, according to ST’s tweet. And that was about an hour ago, so practice might be pau.

  112. Da Punchbowl Kid August 2, 2012 4:29 pm

    Buffoman –

I could punt once upon a time, but if you’re talking about drop kicking rugby style, not so much. 😆 Rugby, btw, is my second favorite sport on the telly these days.

Agree with others about the young talent on the team. I think it’s important to remember that a lot of them youngsters had playing time last year – it wouldn’t surprise me if we had a good showing this season.

Like the size of the oline.

What really intrigues me is D. Bright at 6’4″ or 6’5″ 260 lbs a “motion” tight end. Imagine da possibilities with his catchin skills.

  113. madeinhawaii August 2, 2012 4:42 pm

Tsai tweeted that Kapua Sai is now left Guard…

  114. Da Punchbowl Kid August 2, 2012 4:47 pm

    mih –

    See #92. 😉

  115. d1shima August 2, 2012 4:48 pm

    duffer,

    Wow!

At least she went down swinging! 🙂

  116. d1shima August 2, 2012 4:50 pm

Indeed, practice must be over and time for the Blog Host to show off his wheels!

….no tweets for awhile must mean “scooping” going on.

  117. Shoko August 2, 2012 4:53 pm

There’s a saying, when it comes to system transitions, your experienced players become freshmen again. However, like HM said, the existing players are talented enough to develop into their roles. Once Chow goes through another recruiting class (or two), I think he’ll shine. This year will be consist of growing pains.

  118. Shoko August 2, 2012 4:56 pm

Methinks even if Boise goes undefeated, they still won’t make a BCS bowl for the simple fact that their strength of schedule is somewhat weak. But then again, whats new – Boise doesn’t play anybody..lol.

  119. d1shima August 2, 2012 4:58 pm

    👿

    We sumboddy, eh?

  120. Shoko August 2, 2012 5:02 pm

    Doh, I stand corrected. 😉

  121. Shoko August 2, 2012 5:04 pm

The reference to Boise doesn’t play anybody was in regards to their out of conference schedule. This year, they only play MSU that is ranked whereas, the Warriors play USC and Boise State. However, I think Boise State might not be ranked by the time they show up at Aloha Stadium tho.

  122. d1shima August 2, 2012 5:06 pm

    Kden.

….but I get mah eyez on yu! 😈

    heheheh

  123. d1shima August 2, 2012 5:13 pm

  124. Shoko August 2, 2012 5:26 pm

Is ST coming back to the blog and post stuff or am I going to have to wait till tomorrow?

  125. Shoko August 2, 2012 5:27 pm

  126. Shoko August 2, 2012 5:43 pm

Eh! Da new guy is one southpaw.

    Shigematsu on da blindside!

  131. Stretch August 2, 2012 6:38 pm

    Howzit Tsaikos!!

If anyone needs Pigskin Pigout tickets, let me know. I have a few for sale.

After watching a few of the spring practices, I had a few concerns. It appears that Coach Chow was able to bring in some players who will improve the competition at these positions. I anticipate this will improve the overall team.

  132. d1shima August 2, 2012 6:44 pm

    Your Braddah is A-house?

    heheheh

  133. BigHiloFan2 August 2, 2012 6:49 pm

  135. Ipu Man August 2, 2012 6:53 pm

Channel 2 Sports Demello said that former Duke quarterback Sean Schroeder was

coached by the same coach who groomed both Peyton Manning and his brother…

    Hmmmmmmm…………..

  136. Rich August 2, 2012 6:53 pm

Man that was a terrible job giving updates on twitter ST.

    laters gang. courting tomorrow.

  141. lava August 2, 2012 7:49 pm

This is not going to be an easy transition for the football team. I am glad to see a bunch of you have very realistic expectations. I would like to know at the outset how coach plans to measure the progress made this year, aside from the record. This is going to be a very trying year, for sure.

  142. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 8:14 pm

I doubt Dunnachie will make an appearance. Usual procedure is for his attorney to make the plea.

  143. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2012 8:16 pm

If he cuts a deal, I see him getting about a 4-game suspension. If he goes to trial, he’ll be out a while.

  144. LizKauai August 2, 2012 8:49 pm

    YEA! al wins!

bhf2 gets an iPhone… Dice with Buddies, bro!

    Happy Birthday, ROB!

  145. oldtimer808 August 2, 2012 8:52 pm

Just want to say Mahalo for any information concerning the UH football practices. I appreciate ST and others who are there to share their observations. I’m a grandpa so unable to attend those practices since I have grand kids to pickup. Boy having kids never end.

  146. Bugaz August 2, 2012 9:02 pm

    I smell it…oops kaboose

  147. Bugaz August 2, 2012 9:02 pm

  148. Bugaz August 2, 2012 9:07 pm

Hoping for a great season, but the youth of this team is so exciting.

The Identify the young Tsai-ko Contest photo collection has been on the back burner because of, errrrr, distractions.

If you would like to participate in the contest next week, please contribute a high school/early 20’s photo of yourself. email to to: stevem.hnl (at) gmail. The photo will be resized to only 300 pixels height – 190 pixel width and only blog names will be used.

  156. Bigislandkurt August 2, 2012 10:01 pm

Two of the top three QB’s battling are lefties. This makes the competition for RIGHT tackle a bit more interesting.

    BIK

  157. BigHiloFan2 August 3, 2012 1:42 am

    LT Blake Muir 6’5″ 295, LG Kapua Sai 6’4″ 315 , C Ben Clarke 6’3″ 285, RG David Lefotu 6’3″ 305, RT Sean Shigematsu 6’4″ 305

    nice nice.

  158. BigHiloFan2 August 3, 2012 1:55 am

looking at the rest of the oline, i’d say Coach gonna make da team wanna play.

    lucky us!

  159. mo808 August 3, 2012 3:41 am

    Good Friday All!

    29 more wakeups & 5 more Saturdays!

Hope as many Warrior fan faithful as possible will be able to be there at the coliseum 9/1/12 wearing green and waving ti-leaves to support Hawaii!

    Go Warriors!

  160. WarriorNY August 3, 2012 4:41 am

    Hey guys,

Reardon’s blog has some good quotes from yesterday’s practice as well…

  161. WarriorNY August 3, 2012 4:49 am

Is it blasphemous to post Reardon’s blog link on ST’s blog?

  162. Kekoa August 3, 2012 5:16 am

I think it’s all good. Reardon travels with ST sometimes to away games…ferd does too. They all have one thing in common…they are navigationally challenged. GPS means nothing to them.

  163. Shoko August 3, 2012 5:19 am

You can post the link, but you shouldn’t post the story because it is paywall content. Besides, I think everyone here knows where to find DR’S column. Just look for angry UH fans congregating…lol.

  164. WarriorNY August 3, 2012 5:34 am

Kekoa… That’s hilarious… I can only imagine getting lost in a car with ST, Reardon, and Ferd…

Shoko, yeah you’re right people can find Reardon’s blog. I won’t link it…

  165. LizKauai (iPad) August 3, 2012 5:40 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka!

    GO WARRIORS!

  166. 3-Prong August 3, 2012 6:05 am

Let’s Go Bows! Kinda miss hearing that cheer rocking the stadium. Oh well. Go Warriors! I can smell it too.

  170. BigHiloFan2 August 3, 2012 6:23 am

    an before i forget….

    happy birthday Rob 26. 😀

  171. BigHiloFan2 August 3, 2012 6:31 am

    have a great Friday, Tsaikos.

  172. WarriorNY August 3, 2012 6:39 am

ST is on Bobby Curran now…

  173. Shoko August 3, 2012 6:49 am

ST thinks Shutter might be reinstated before the four-game suspension is completed. I think thats a possibility as long as there are no more incidents. He also mentioned that Tachibana’s BAC was right at the limit (0.8). Wonder what Alex’s BAC was.

  174. WarriorNY August 3, 2012 7:04 am

ST also said he thought QB will come down to Higgins or Schroeder… I think Schroeder will be the guy.

  175. al August 3, 2012 7:04 am

i guess everyone wants to know…

is jt going to get to turn some heads?

will ronnie get to see the field?

  176. d1shima August 3, 2012 7:06 am

    Great Morning All!

    102.

    29.

    +37-1/2….

  177. al August 3, 2012 7:07 am

will the oline have to flip flop then?

will david graves be considered for a wildcat?

taking advantage of his 4.6 wheels perhaps?

  178. Bryson August 3, 2012 7:14 am

Too bad Graves didn’t wanna move to Wideout I thought he had some wheels on the plays he scrambled he looked way faster than a 4.6….Game speed will always be faster than a standard 40 time…

  179. al August 3, 2012 7:17 am

    numbers…

sean schoeder picks #19 that number of one the greatest qb’s ever.

shutter picks #15, any similarities with previous qb’s who donned that number?

without googling who knows why #32 is left vacant?

with only a few double numbers this year what number will mystery man be?

will “00” be issued this year?

i suppose it would be safe to say that the top three qb’s numbers could be issued to a defensive player with no hands.

  180. papajoe2 August 3, 2012 7:24 am

A lot of time went by, so what’s going on with the JD thing.

  181. papajoe2 August 3, 2012 7:24 am

    ?

  182. al August 3, 2012 7:29 am

bryson…he hasn’t been asked yet. remember how they wanted him to play safety two years ago. graves was a wideout his soph year in hs.

he’s a team guy. he’ll do whatever it takes.

  183. Da Punchbowl Kid August 3, 2012 7:29 am

  186. Da Punchbowl Kid August 3, 2012 7:43 am

    Fanks, Shoko.

  187. Shoko August 3, 2012 7:46 am

DPK, I think its 2:00 pm.

New bowl selection process to include 5-7 record teams? Pretty sad!

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8228544/ncaa-new-bowl-game-tiebreakers-include-fcs-wins-5-7-teams

  188. al August 3, 2012 7:52 am

shoko…its just another way for the bcs powers to control the money.

  189. Bryson August 3, 2012 7:54 am

What’s scary is with Rolo being Nevada’s OC we could actually see what he envisioned with the Hawaii offense while he was here…I’m guessing it’ll be a hybrid Spread/R&S attack alot of draws not only to the RB’s but the QB keeping it as well…similar to what we ran against Colorado last season…

  190. Shoko August 3, 2012 7:57 am

I think the 5-7 teams is for the non-BCS bowls should they fail to have enough 6-6 teams. But you have a point about the BCS bowl selection process and the money involved.

I don’t think there has been a time when they didn’t have enough 6-6 teams to fill those smaller bowls tho. But if they create more bowls that might be the case.

  191. tommui August 3, 2012 8:08 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

I remember when the line had 150-160 linemen and around 5’7″!

Of course this was when Hank Vasconcellos was the coach!

  192. MattyBoy August 3, 2012 8:16 am

    Al,

You know anything about Turners situation? I thought ST said he was good to go?

  193. kawika49 August 3, 2012 8:20 am

Watching this dresage thing. Howcum the rider get the meda. The Horse doing all the work.

  194. wafan August 3, 2012 8:38 am

    Happy Aloha Friday!

  195. wafan August 3, 2012 8:39 am

Turner returned to complete course work? I thought he was all set.

    Hmmmmmmm.

  196. wafan August 3, 2012 8:43 am

    Agree with Kawika49.

    How is that a sport?

Is a dog show the next Olympic sport?

    Sit, roll-over, play dead, point, fetch, . . .

  197. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 3, 2012 8:43 am

    #208,

Or it could end up being the cluster**** that was UCLA under Neuheisel. Note I did say Neuheisel, not Chow. Rick wanted to force the pistol into the offense.

  198. Shoko August 3, 2012 8:45 am

Alex pleads no contest according to ST.

  199. Shoko August 3, 2012 8:48 am

They were sort of implementing the Pistol formation in their pony formation at UCLA, which is a flexbone/Pistol. I think thats what Chow is going to use now.

  200. Shoko August 3, 2012 8:49 am

    I’ll emphasize the word “think”.

  201. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 3, 2012 8:55 am

Then again, Kaeppernick ends up in SF. Working with a pro-style coach. *shrugs*

  202. Bryson August 3, 2012 9:00 am

#218 the thing is Hawaii has already had success running the pistol they Won the WAC title and Alex Green was running all over ther place and Mo still threw for alot of touchdowns…

  203. Bryson August 3, 2012 9:03 am

With Cody Fajardo he has a pretty good dual threat quarterback who can throw and run…While Kapernick was probably a better runner due to his long strides Fajardo is definetly the better more accurate passer…

  204. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 3, 2012 9:14 am

    #222,

It’ll be interesting if they will employ a RnS offense using the pistol formation or the same pistol formation used by Ault that is more run heavy.

In any event, Rolo is on the opposite side of the field with a team I don’t like. If he wins every game next season that’s nice, if he loses every one that’s nice too.

  205. Shoko August 3, 2012 9:20 am

Read a story about Kap a few days ago. Based on what I read, Kap is no longer looking like franchise QB, but is now considered an insurance policy.

  206. koakane August 3, 2012 9:25 am

    new post up

  207. mctruck August 3, 2012 10:24 am

Purchased a copy of the USAtoday newspaper at the store this morning because the front page flashed the top ten Coaches Poll; there’s a big write up bout USC and in particular one of their major concern(s), the defensive line and a lack of experienced backups if injuries hit at critical positions, including quarterback; the impact of 30 fewer scholarships over three years remains a factor for USC. Depth is an issue.

USC has adjusted the way it practices to try to reduce injury risk, with more pro-style practices that are unlike the all-out, all-the-time competition under former coach Pete Carroll. And incidentally, the defensive line took another hit when Devon Kennard, a part-time starter in 2011, tore a chest muscle lifting weights last week. He is expected to miss half of the season after surgery.

And lastly….USC ranked #3 in the Coaches Poll, behind LSU#1, and Alabama#2.

  208. wyroby z betonu August 3, 2012 10:07 pm

I appreciate, cause I found just what I was looking for. You’ve ended my 4 day long hunt! God Bless you man. Have a nice day. Bye

  209. Fantastic items from you, man. I’ve have in mind your stuff prior to and you’re simply too great. I really like what you’ve bought right here, certainly like what you are stating and the way in which in which you assert it. You are making it enjoyable and you continue to take care of to stay it sensible. I can’t wait to learn far more from you. That is actually a great web site.
