Testing 1, 2, 3 …

This is the third day of my video testing. I think I figured out the problem with the blurriness. My next step is to hire a speech therapist so I can stop saying “all right” and “all righty.”

ST getting back to where you left off last night. Can you clarify your position as to why we should play nice and allow their non football sports into the mwc. Did the deadline for them to formally commit to the big east pass? If not its probably because they can’t find a home for those sports. We should force them back to the mwc and enhance our chances for tv contract renegotiations.

Championship Ball – Besides OKC-San Antonio (from 20 straight Wins to Three Straight Losses, sounds like UH softball & baseball)… Today Ch 222 2pm, Keilani Ricketts and Oklahoma take on Alabama in a Winner Take All National Championship Game, with All-American sisters Samantha and Stephanie (of Hawai’i) in the stands…IF Keilani (National Player of the Year) can beat #2 ‘Bama for the second time in three days, it is like a reprisal of two years ago when Stephanie and the UH Wahine left ‘Bama fans with their Jaws on the ground ending their 33(!) Game Winning streak by beating National #1 ‘Bama Twice in Tuscaloosa to Advance to the College Softball NCAA Championship World Series…..

  23. Stephen Tsai June 6, 2012 7:02 am

I think the key to super conferences is getting better TV contracts and more BSC berths. But when a playoff is approved, eventually we’re all going back to geographical alliances. So while it would be fun to stick it to Boise’s non-football sports, in the long run, it wouldn’t be a good idea to make enemies with anyone.

  40. HawaiiMongoose June 6, 2012 8:08 am

Regarding whether to invite Boise State into the Big West, I don’t think it’s about making friends or enemies. It’s about UH doing what’s best for the Big West and UH. Adding Boise State doesn’t benefit the conference or UH in any way. It increases Big West membership to 11 (which messes up scheduling), doesn’t meaningfully improve competition in basketball or volleyball (and Boise State doesn’t even play baseball), and forces UH players to endure a draining two-flight road trip which makes it harder to win.

The only potential benefit of inviting Boise State into the Big West is to keep San Diego State in the conference, given that the Aztecs add real value in basketball and baseball and fit the geographic footprint. But San Diego State has already said that it will put football in the Big East and keep Olympic sports in the Big West regardless of what happens to Boise State. So it isn’t necessary to invite Boise State into the Big West to hold onto San Diego State.

Just wondering how BSU voted about UH paying travel subsidies when they get to the MWC. If BSU voted for subsidies, then UH ould be doing the same as BSU nothing more.

  46. 3-Prong June 6, 2012 8:16 am

If the MWC keeps losing “quality members” a contract may not come. Boise will subsidize their other sports with BCS money and put us at a disadvatage in those sports also. I huess we’ll agree to disagree. GO WARRIORS AND BOWS!

  47. 3-Prong June 6, 2012 8:16 am

  51. al June 6, 2012 8:22 am

dpk…does your comment have a subliminal message such as; and now st will be the rookie beatwriter of the mwc this season?

  52. al June 6, 2012 8:25 am

well, hawaii will not be paying travel subsidies to sdsu nor bsu if they are allowed entrance.

the big west as a whole don’t want to travel to the remoteness that is bsu and bsu’s olympic sports are neither noteworthy thus making the inclusion something to ponder.

the big sky probably still have bad vibes with bsu.

surely the bsu contingent must be sweating bullets by now.

  53. al June 6, 2012 8:28 am

empty…it was not a vote on travel subsidies. hawaii had to offer travel subsidies if we were to even entertain entrance at all. surely, it was unanimous for our acceptance by all mwc with that caveat.

  54. Derek June 6, 2012 8:39 am

Sorry, I don’t like the Heat. I like the Celtics, I like the Spurs and I like the Thunder too. My head says that OKC is the best team. My heart says the Spurs and Celtics in the final. The Heat can still win the East, but no matter. I think OKC is going to win it all. And, It is not the national championship. It’s the NBA championship or NBA Finals, commonly known as the world championship. Just to be correct. Only 23, Kevin Durant is the best to me. His game is a lot like Nowitzki, only leaner, and faster, and more athletic. And, he’s improving as a defensive player too. At 6’10 to 7’0″ with skills and unlimited range he’s better than James. That’s just my opinion.

  55. WarriorNY June 6, 2012 8:51 am

When Kevin Durant scores, it looks effortless…He is impossible to stop…

  56. Stephen Tsai June 6, 2012 9:01 am

  60. mctruck June 6, 2012 9:21 am

    ST,

Past cpl days on espnu they’ve been dicussing anything bcs related; one thing jumped out is former AA-qb from Houston, and I don’t know why I keep forgetting his name…remarks that he thinks Houston made a big mistake moving to the BigEast. Saying basically those schools jumping to the Bigeast is short term at best froma financial stand point. (froma?…sorry my italian coming out). bwaahahaha!

  63. krump1_AKA_protector June 6, 2012 9:42 am

  74. jimmy the lock June 6, 2012 10:57 am

Did you mean “alright” or “all right”?

  75. kev-1 June 6, 2012 11:16 am

I think MLB needs to have a rule against drafting kids out of high school like the other major sports leagues. Far too many youngsters get lured to hopes of big dollars and pass up a college education and experience for a chance in the pros. What they find when they get there is a strong possibility that they will never see the big leagues and make mini-money playing minor league ball. They get forgotten and come home with nothing to fall back on. MLB consumes a lot of young men from a very young age. And when you think about how many of them actually make it to the big leagues . . . it is a shame.

  76. kev-1 June 6, 2012 11:17 am

I thought Koehler out of Saint Louis was supposed to be one of the top O-line prospects in the nation? Not good enough to make the top 300?

  77. Derek June 6, 2012 11:21 am

Based on his performance in the 2012 season, I think Almadova should return for his senior season next year and focus on a great 2013 to raise his draft stock. In the field he’s very accomplished. At the plate, he needs a lot of work yet. But, wishing him the best in whatever he does.

  78. ai-eee-soos June 6, 2012 11:22 am

Matt Sisto and Breland Almadova selected on Day 3 of MLB Draft.

    #76:

some sports person ranked Koehler as the #1 player at guard.

  80. A-joe June 6, 2012 11:26 am

    75. Kev-1 Absolutely agree.

I’m sure someone can make an argument otherwise with a few exceptions but, majority do fall into the predicament you describe.

  81. A-House June 6, 2012 11:28 am

ah, the Platters – one of my most favor groups during the “golden age” of rock ‘n roll.

saw them at the Civic in 1959 – you could hear a pin drop when they came of stage before their first song – we were sitting on the top most row on King St side

much to my ” I wish I had done it” list, I wanted to see them again when they were at the Sahara in Vegas, but ——————-.

  82. A-House June 6, 2012 11:37 am

IMHO, for pro baseball – forget it if you are not drafted in the first 2 rounds – IIRC, no UH player in the past 20 years has ever made it to the “big time” – Kolten is still in AA ball and he was a very high draft pick.

I agree with other who say pro-BB should not draft players until they have concluded their Jr year in college.

  83. wait a minute June 6, 2012 11:41 am

Apples and oranges. Because of the minor leagues, 18 year old kids can climb the ladder, if they had to try and make the bigs right away, that would be different. A lot of kids wouldn’t qualify to play right away at a 4 year school. Deny them the right to try and play pro ball just because they don’t have grades or test scores?

  84. Stephen Tsai June 6, 2012 11:47 am

I think if a player had to wait until after junior year, there would be a sharp decline in the number of international players, particularly from the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

  85. Stephen Tsai June 6, 2012 11:49 am

“Estefana” would be my drag-queen name, if I were a drag queen.

-Any chance to garner compensation would heavily weigh against Hawaii and Utah.

Has two stars from some recruiting service.

    Football gives full scholarships.

    Basketball gives full scholarships.

Baseball gives 11.7 scholarships to be split among the entire team. Most players only get something like a 1/4 scholarship. Forbidding baseball players from going straight to the pros means that poor players wouldn’t be able to afford to continue their baseball career.

Baseball cannot switch to full scholarships due to Title IX considerations. There is no way the numbers would work out.

    oops sorry aiesoos.

some say he’s 210 lbs. looks like an h-back or possibly could grow into a tight end.

  123. al June 6, 2012 7:42 pm

looks like a big greg salas at times with his hands, routes, and toughness.

  124. bleedgreen June 6, 2012 8:03 pm

Utah is now part of the PAC 12. Why are they continuing the suit against the BCS? Doesn’t make sense for Hawaii to pursue. Time to move on.

  125. ai-eee-soos June 6, 2012 8:24 pm

#125 not to worry – posted the same stuff earlier, but they were smu’d.

  126. 3-Prong June 6, 2012 8:25 pm

Bleed: Maybe they are trying to collect full BCS automatic qualifying level retroactive payouts from their successful seasons of the past, instead of of the reduced amount they actually received.

  127. papajoe2 June 6, 2012 8:43 pm

#129, 131, I’m not sure but I think its Utah State so maybe even the state of Utah.

  128. Ralph June 6, 2012 9:03 pm

Coach Beeman came across nicely on the Leahy and Leahy show.. Exciting times, first up, Baylor and Stanford in the first tournament, followed by Oregon and Oklahoma the following week.

She said fans should come out to watch the team, and look beyond the play of Baylor, etc and watch how hard our girls compete and how fundamentally sound they play. She didn’t down play the lack of recruiting budget, she said she will sell the program as one that can compete in the Big West and win the automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament, and if the recruit wants a chance to get into the NCAA tournament, UH is an option.

  129. papajoe2 June 6, 2012 9:12 pm

Bama beats Oklahoma and Ricketts, 5-4 final.

  130. bigislandkurt June 6, 2012 9:27 pm

Why can’t we have a true college football playoff system? The “final four” proposal sucks. And so does the “and 1” proposal. I want nothing less than a true playoff where conference champions and a few “at larges” get invited to the big college football dance.

    I’ll keep dreaming.

    BIK

  131. 3-Prong June 6, 2012 9:31 pm

Ppj2: Aren’t Utah and Utah State both public institutions funded by the state of Utah? I think that’s why their AG is filing the suit. I think we’re on the same page here?

  132. Derek June 6, 2012 9:53 pm

Garth Brooks has a song called “Thunder Rolls”. Well, the Oklahoma City Thunder are on a roll for sure. Durant is the best. You can tell the Spurs were an excellent outfit with class, but OKC was just better. James Harden and Serge Ibaka are only 22, Durant and Westbrook are both 23, Eric Maynor (injured) is 24, Sefalosha is 28, Perkins is 27, Daquen Cook is 25, Collison is 30 and the old man Derek Fisher is 37 and giving lots of experience and leadership. Obviously, the youngest team in the NBA and also the best team too. If they keep their core players I can see them winning multiple NBA championships easily.

The sickest team must be the Portland TrailBlazers. They could have had Kevin Durant but they took Greg Oden who can’t keep healthy. Not surprising. The Blazers are famous for making bad picks. They took Sam Bowie when they could have gotten Michael Jordan. The Seattle Supersonics are also feeling sick too. Their franchise relocated to OKC.

You have to wonder if Lebron James decided to choose the Chicago Bulls instead of Miami. He might have won an NBA title last year with the Bulls, and probably this year too. Let’s face it, Miami Heat fans are not rabid fans like some other cities.

  133. el burro sabio June 6, 2012 10:32 pm

    BIK,

Can. 7 conference games and a 128 team playoff by region and seeded by computer. Everyone gets 14 games.
