Warriors prepared for overtime

With all of the ceremonies and television specials — heck, even Na Koa is planning a $2,500-a-table event — it is easy to overlook that the signing period is a month, not one just one day.

The Warriors expect to learn today whether scholarship offers to about three prospects will be accepted. But they do not expect to fill all of their scholarships when their 2012 recruiting class is announced tomorrow afternoon.

That’s because the Warriors plan to bring in up to four prospects for visits this weekend.

It is not a unique strategy. Linebacker Adam Leonard was a late addition to the 2005 class. He ended up having a celebrated career with the Warriors.

* * * * *

If you’re keeping score, grayshirt linebacker Lance Williams of Farrington High and transfer quarterback Taylor Graham of The Ohio State count as part of this year’s recruiting class.

* * * * *

Sometimes the best prospects can be found on the roster.

Craig Cofer, who was used sparingly as a defensive end last year, is set to move to tight end. It makes sense. Cofer is tall (6-5), strong (400-pound bencher) and athletic. He also draws comparisons to Chad Lewis, who played tight end in Norm Chow’s offense at BYU. Lewis, who had joined BYU as a walk-on, eventually played for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Warriors will have at least three tight ends in spring training — Cofer, Waylon Lolotai (a converted offensive lineman) and Clark Evans, a JC All-American who enrolled at UH about two weeks ago. Two more join this summer.

* * * * *

Preliminary plans call for the Warriors to conduct spring practices in the afternoon, with starting times about 3:30 p.m. Spring training opens March 17.

* * * * *

The Warriors’ spring scrimmage on Maui has been moved from March to April.

    Anyone interested?

  26. al January 31, 2012 8:25 am

tommui…no hints, no brainteasers, no subliminals.

really…no one knows what goes on behind closed doors.

these final four are probably going to do the “eenie, meenie, miny, moe” if it got down to it. however, realize this, that it’s a decision that needs to be endorsed by the family as well. there in lies where many recruits could end up not where there heart is, but, rather where mom and pop want him to go.

a decision that affects a guy for the next 4-5 years is a tough one to make sometimes.

  30. tom mui January 31, 2012 8:39 am

@21 Haleakala – I hope so since Cole Porter wrote the song and I think he wrote the verse and lyrics – at least he did almost all his songs and lyrics.

Old time version of Steven Sondheim.

Did you recognize “Will tomorrow never come”?

(Samuel Barber – “Vanessa” – think the book was by Menotti)

when in april is the spring prac? tough decision about maui cc duffer AJA state being played on 7 and 8. mmmmmmm game time decision

  32. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 8:47 am

    Nanakuli,

The Warriors can only offer 25 initial scholarships. Remaining scholies can then be awarded to those who are already in the program and have been there for at least two seasons, I think.

  33. jeezy33 January 31, 2012 8:52 am

2 2,000 yard RBs left uncommitted…. both undersized but could be Mike Bass type guys.

De’jon Coleman from Arlete High School. Set a city record with 47 TDs and 2,029 yards. Only 17 and won’t be 18 till November. Listed at 5-10 175 pounds. Might be worth a look with Coprich committing to Cal.

Marshaun Coprich- Jeff’s cousin who is another 2,000 yard rusher.

Hope Chow takes a look at these 2 guys. Both versitile and can play multiple positions.

  34. Couch potato January 31, 2012 8:53 am

  37. cheepono January 31, 2012 9:20 am

seems like every recruiting analyst in the nation thinks that brostek is down to oregon and washington. hoping hawaii is still in the mix…

  38. jkjones January 31, 2012 9:21 am

the cofer switch to TE is intriquing. @ 6-5, 250, craig has plenty size. Chow will be using a variety of TE packages so cofer can earn a spot if he can at least block. looks like the staff has been busy in evaluating returning players as well as recruiting. great to see a busy staff and tireless work ethic. hopefully, it will trickle down to players as well.

it is not uncommon for new head coaches to make immediate impact on players and often need to crack-a-whip to make their point. urban meyers shut down workouts temporarily in his first spring at gainsville bc he didnt like the lackadaisical approach towards training. Rich Rodriquez’s new training regimine was initially so tramatic at A2, several starters left the program, including an All-Conference OLM.

  39. al January 31, 2012 9:28 am

tiffany’s is always a must. many a mini call is held there.

  41. jkjones January 31, 2012 9:33 am

i believe Chow & Co know what their needs are at TB. They want a scooter w stop n go moves and 0-40 acceleration in the seams and on the perimeter. there is reason in building a huge offensive line and bruising FBs. hint: find waldo in the crowd. when we find the scooter,

he will be wearing a jersey with “aloha” in the front and “goodbye” in the back.

  42. Couch potato January 31, 2012 9:35 am

Juniors Jessica Iwata and Kelly Majam, along with seniors Alex Aguirre and Stephanie Ricketts named to the 2012 preseason All-WAC team.

Hawaii just edged out by Fresno state (voting 42-44) as a preseason favorite to win the WAC this season.

Hawaii was favored last season and was voted 3rd in 2010 in the preseason voting. Apparently the margin of 44-42 in voting favoring Fresno State was the “closest” margin ever.

  53. Bigislandkurt January 31, 2012 10:10 am

With current players having been evaluated by coaches, I wonder what other notable position changes are in the works?

Heard about Lolotai to TE. Anguay to RB. And now, Cofer to TE. I’m sure they’ll be more.

    BIK

  54. ai-eee-soos January 31, 2012 10:15 am

TE prospects are loooookin good !!!

Craig Cofer is set to move to tight end. It makes sense. Cofer is tall (6-5), strong (400-pound bencher), athletic; and playing DE, is AGGRESSIVE. i.e, pan-cake ’em.

  55. whitey January 31, 2012 10:26 am

Brother, I love your enthusiasm about those two running backs, but I don’t comparing them to Mike Bass is gonna win anybody over…..

    You know what I mean.

It used to drive me insane the amount of times Bass would go down via ankle / shoelace tackle.

I prefer the unsalted, roasted Deluxe Mixed Nuts… 17.5 oz for $6.99 when on sale. No peanuts in it whatsoever. I pay close to $40 for 5 pounds online. Maybe I should mix some peanuts in them to extend them some, eh? Most of the other mixes include 50% or more peanuts.

  77. jeezy33 January 31, 2012 11:43 am

Speaking of Sark, It seems like Udub trying to make last minute effort on Ronald Fields

  78. Pauoa Boy January 31, 2012 11:43 am

Iosefa is a beast but Coach should put Elisara at FB too. He played the position in high school and is also a big bruising back. He gained weight but he could be used for blocking and short yardage situations.

I like the fact that Lakalaka is not afraid to make contact and lower his pads on someone. He will get stronger and faster too, gonna be exciting. I’d like to see what we have in Will Gregory though from last years recruits. Rated the 46th best running back in the nation gotta mean something.

  79. Hodad January 31, 2012 11:44 am

Signing “Day” for football runs for two months from Feb. 1 (This year) to April 1. After that kids can still get scholarships, they just do not sign a letter of intent.

  82. Pauoa Boy January 31, 2012 11:48 am

    #33

Mike Bass wasn’t a good running back at all. That guy would forever lose his footing and couldn’t take a hit at all. I’d say they are more like some Daniel Libre types as far as size goes…

  83. jeezy33 January 31, 2012 11:55 am

    82. Not saying he was great. But sometimes you can find a small sleeper that is quick and break away speed…

So minus the slipping, a guy as quick as a Bass that works harder

  84. jeezy33 January 31, 2012 11:56 am

He also was only a soph playing in the wrong system

  85. Pauoa Boy January 31, 2012 12:03 pm

I like big bruising backs with wheels…love watching those types of bruising backs that can move a pile. West Keli’ikipi, Nate Ilaoa, Reagan Maui’a, Joey Iosefa types. Alex Green could also be put in that mold cause he could take a hit and move… Still remember that massive stiff arm Keli’ikipi gave to that USC guy back when Coach Chow was with USC I think…

  86. al January 31, 2012 12:13 pm

The main reason Thompson who was a Cal commit changed his mind is because of Cal’s ex recruiting coordinator who left like a thief in the night to accept the UW position and get paid 500K plus a Boat….definetly not the kind of character I would want my kids being around for 4-5 years…

  112. Kevin January 31, 2012 1:37 pm

Always been weary about UW for years….

Sour grapes just proves the case, for your reading pleasure:

for what it’s worth, it seems like UH knows about De’Jon Coleman but still hasn’et decided to offer

Arleta coach Dan Kelley said Coleman can play more positions than running back. He can return kicks, play slot or wide receiver and defensive back. Kelley has been in contact with a number of colleges, including New Mexico State, San Jose State, Hawaii and Oregon State, but none have expressed much interest in Coleman. “I don’t know what the hang up is,” Kelley said. “It’s amazing to me. They’re not giving him that proper look. Someone is going to get a great football player.”

Brostek to UDUB… At least we fought to end… I wasn’t counting on it for a second though

  115. SteveK January 31, 2012 1:39 pm

The NCAA needs to keep an eye on UDUB, it seems they do not believe in the so called mandated Dead Period.

  116. Dan-O January 31, 2012 1:40 pm

Someone posting on other site that Brostek has committed to…..UDUB!

  117. koakane January 31, 2012 1:41 pm

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i women’s basketball team will be holding its annual alumnae game on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 5:00 p.m. The current Rainbow Wahine will take on Utah State following the game at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. Hawai’i’s game

something to keep the time from passing slowly

The Western Athletic Conference softball coaches picked the University of Hawai’i to finish second in the 2012 season. Four Rainbow Wahine were named to the Preseason All-WAC team–Jessica Iwata, Stephanie Ricketts, Alexandra Aguirre, and Kelly Majam.

looks like Fields gone to udub too…

    hate them

#118….wow, where is Robin Hood when we need him? Talk about the rich stealing from the poor.

  120. Kevin January 31, 2012 1:43 pm

Mike Emmert was the former president of UW and is the current NCAA President.

Supposedly he takes a hard stance on NCAA compliance.

    Yeah ok…

What Benson is to BSU, Emmert will protect what is his.

  121. Abunai January 31, 2012 1:43 pm

Say it isn’t so!!  bummer!!

  124. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 1:46 pm

Wow! Losing out on recruits at the end sucks!

  125. Kevin January 31, 2012 1:48 pm

Well, as it was already mentioned, we were in the running unlike before.

Try wait to see what Coach Chow and Co. can do with more time to recruit… things are looking up.

  126. SteveK January 31, 2012 1:48 pm

We will see how hard a stance Mike Emmert has when it come to NCAA compliance, when it is UDUB that has to be looked at long and hard.

  127. Kevin January 31, 2012 1:49 pm

Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end

  128. ewa January 31, 2012 1:50 pm

This is the first year I’ve been a recruiting spectator…it’s as painful as watching UH lose in OT!

  129. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 1:50 pm

    Lemme post that link again…

I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind.

Some come from ahead and some come from behind.

But I’ve bought a big bat. I’m all ready you see.

Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!

  135. ewa January 31, 2012 1:59 pm

Huck the fuskies! Well…it strengthens my love for the boys who are staying home.

  136. SteveK January 31, 2012 2:01 pm

Wonder why the Blog Host is so quiet, when there seems to be alot of activity going on in the recruitment area? 🙄

  137. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 2:03 pm

Didn’t Shane’s father go to UW, too? Oh well…. next!!!

  138. WarriorFan808 January 31, 2012 2:05 pm

#137 – Maybe he’s trying to verify if Fields and Brostek are really going to udub?

  139. HawaiiMongoose January 31, 2012 2:05 pm

Well, there’s only one thing to be done… kick UW’s okole the next time we play them.

  140. SteveK January 31, 2012 2:08 pm

Here is something local recruits, and their parents, need to remember. How many have gone away, and gotten into trouble with trouble, and how many have stayed at home, and stayed out of trouble. At last count 6 or 7 have gone away and gotten into trouble, 0 when they stay at home. hmmmm, something to seriously think about. 😀

  141. EA January 31, 2012 2:13 pm

Whether OT or halftime, fact of the matter is Brostek ain’t coming. As great as NC has been thus far, I don’t buy any of this “we almost had him” baloney. They don’t give consolation prizes for being the last school a recruit rejects.

  142. Bleed Green and White January 31, 2012 2:19 pm

    (#144 EA)

Wow: “They don’t give consolation prizes for being the last school a recruit rejects”

    That’s kind of harsh isn’t buddy….?

Damn, current staff has only been in place less than a month, the fact they even went to the Big Island is a huge step in the right direction for me…….

“Baloney”…..did any coach or UH official say “We almost had him”…?

    Don’t think so!

  143. maddog50 January 31, 2012 2:24 pm

Two things if in fact Brostek commited to Washington….it was going to happen no matter what you do…..it is not done till they sign. 2nd Arnold Morgado was etched from stone with the personality of just one great guy…..we get anything like him….he can only equal not exceed the guy he was….still, to be compared is a great compliment—-Go Warriors!!!!

  144. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 2:24 pm

But then, that just leaves an opening for another exciting future Warrior.

  145. Bigislandkurt January 31, 2012 2:25 pm

Some of those tweets are saying that the Honolulu newspaper is reporting that Shane chose UW. Are they talking about this blog?

    BIK

  146. mcb January 31, 2012 2:28 pm

#148 – that would be awesome if they were talking about this blog….which was probably relying on those tweets. But it is posted in Scout and is therefore likely true.

  147. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 2:29 pm

My sentiments are pretty much like how SportsHawaii will move the thread of a prospective recruit out of the University of Hawaii Football forum into the generic “Sports” forum just as soon as they have committed elsewhere. Moving them out-of-sight and soon to be out-of-mind.

  148. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 2:30 pm

Is Lancelot Williams enrolled at UH this spring?

  149. urbankid January 31, 2012 2:34 pm

From Fields: “it aint over bro”

  150. Manoa January 31, 2012 2:34 pm

If we lose many more by tomorrow, I may be more discouraged (BTW looks like MAYBE we lost Taliulu, and we probably lost two others already reported here). But for now, if hold what we have and pick up a few more, then I say Chow is doing well. But the trend of the Pac 12 coming back with a vengeance and reclaiming or taking these recruits is a little scary.

  151. kakaako kid January 31, 2012 2:35 pm

Bro-stek committed to UW about 17 years ago. Stopping to take a look at Manoa says something. Good luck to all. My team is on the field.

  152. cheepono January 31, 2012 2:35 pm

did taylor taliulu de-commit too?! geez what next.

  153. ewa January 31, 2012 2:36 pm

just saw where taliulu now committed to Washington State. Oh dear, I don’t like this game very much.

  154. Manoa January 31, 2012 2:39 pm

Correction– to be clear– Lost Brostek, lost Fields, and lost Tuliulu (iffy still). Also lost some guy to Colorado State. Fields and Tuliulu verballed.

  155. 808Bowler January 31, 2012 2:40 pm

We lose some and win some. That’s how it goes. Just wish the local athletes the best and graduate with a degree. No matter where u go college you still represent where u og come from. Hawaii.

Go get’m young men and women.

  156. kev-1 January 31, 2012 2:43 pm

So if Brostek committed to UW, now is the time for that one phone call per week that coaches get to contact recruits during the dead period. Brostek, pick up your phone. Coach Chow wants to make one last pitch.

How’s the saying? “If can, can. If no can, no can.” Can’t hate on these kids for wanting to go away. It is a huge, important decision for any high school senior to make, athlete or not. Do I go away and experience something completely new and exciting to begin my adulthood, or do I stay home with mom and dad. Football is only a part of the decision for these young men.

    UH will be fine.

  157. Bryson January 31, 2012 2:43 pm

Actually Fields has not decommitted as of yet…

  158. Steve January 31, 2012 2:44 pm

808Bowler – With that kind of attitude, now wonder alot of the local talent go elsewhere, instead of playing for their home state. Once they leave, need to cut string, no longer part of this wonderful state and university.

  159. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 2:44 pm

    158,

Definitely. This class is not looking good at all! Mcmackin did a better job in his first year as HC. Seems to be all smoke and mirrors. Bummer.

  160. urbankid January 31, 2012 2:44 pm

HAWAII THREE STAR SAFETY Taylor Taliulu switched his commitment from WSU to Hawaii on Sunday. But after talking it over with his family the past 24 hours, he tells CF.C the right choice for him was the one he made back during the summer.

  161. jkjones January 31, 2012 2:45 pm

I dont see the horseshoe analogy in Hawaii’s case….perhaps, in past regimes. The fact that Hawaii was organized, showed tactical presence and was able to convince at least two locals to de-commit from PAC 12 programs and snatch another who was leaning–that is huge. They were aamong the top 10 in Hawaii. It bodes well for the future. Chow & Co were enjoined in battle to win, not come close. but, like all things in life, to be successful, short memory and relentless effort is required. Nothing will be settled this recruiting season except for one caveat to the BCS huns–come prepared, you are in our backyard.

  162. Bryson January 31, 2012 2:45 pm

SteveK your still so far off about the Benihana and Supercuts innuendo’s on yesterday’s blog…AL explained what ST was trying to say…it had nothing to do with recruits but with players currently on the team…

  163. kev-1 January 31, 2012 2:45 pm

Taliulu too? Maybe he got tired of people in Hawaii mispelling his name.

Here’s hoping the dominos STOP falling soon.

  164. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 2:46 pm

I gues that’s why chow and staff are bringing in four other recruits this weekend. Again prolly recruits that nobody wanted.

  165. urbankid January 31, 2012 2:47 pm

165, second place gets you no where in life

  166. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 2:48 pm

The next thing you know, Lakalaka is gonna recommit back to UCLA.

  167. SteveK January 31, 2012 2:48 pm

Thought Taliulu and Lakalaka were close friends? Look for Lakalaka, to decommit also, since Taliulu did.

  168. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 2:48 pm

Not turning out to be a good recruiting class at all

  169. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 2:49 pm

Could it be the recruits themselves? Or maybe possibly to do something with chow and staff? Who knows.

  170. Steve January 31, 2012 2:51 pm

Thinking it is about time Coach Chow does what the PAC 12 schools are doing, and disregard the so called Dead Period. Get the phone, start calling the recruits, and do not stop calling them.

  172. cheepono January 31, 2012 2:51 pm

i guess this is chow’s first real “wake up call” and the difficulties associated with recruiting to UH. here’s to hoping he has a solid plan for recruiting in the future.

also hope this doesn’t discourage him from doing the full court press year in and year out. these kinds of disappointments are what led jj and mack to pretty much give up recruiting hawaii.

  173. kev-1 January 31, 2012 2:53 pm

Way to stay positive guys. Brostek never committed to UH, so we lost nothing there. Two de-committs are not the end of the world. These were long shots. The kids made visits, bonded, and made committments out of excitement. They got home, and their parents probably said . . . “uh, uh, I don’t think so. You are going.” Now they have to de-commit.

I truly believe this recruiting class will be about the offensive side of the ball. As long as we hold on to those, we should be okay.

  174. graham January 31, 2012 2:54 pm

Brostek to me is a good player and I wish we had him but he won’t do anything at Washington. Hope Coach Chow closes the door for players who rejected Hawaii out of college and then decide they want to come back. It is harsh but there is a reason why we can’t keep players in state. I do not like being a fall back option if things do not work out at other schools

  176. kev-1 January 31, 2012 2:54 pm

Forget contacting these local recruits. Contact their girlfriends and tell them to contact their boyfriends and say . . . “I’m pregnant! You need to stay home!”

  177. Kevin January 31, 2012 2:55 pm

If Coach Chow had more than a month and worked on being initial contacts as opposed to trying to flip switches set to other schools, we’d see results.

I think this goes to show the UNREALISTIC expectations of Coach Chow’s first year. Oh wait… first MONTH on the job!!!

Start panicing if we get the same issues same time next year.

Goes to show there really are two things in life that can turn men into idiots… women and sports

  178. kev-1 January 31, 2012 2:56 pm

  180. kev-1 January 31, 2012 2:57 pm

  181. kev-1 January 31, 2012 2:58 pm

ummmm . . . that guy they would just call “T”

  182. graham January 31, 2012 2:59 pm

Yes Scout.com has him as a 2 star- Rivals 3 star

  183. Manoa January 31, 2012 2:59 pm

I don’t think Chow is learning the disappointments of recruiting– he recruited at BYU against Pac 12 teams. At UCLA he recruited against USC, Stanford, and Oregon. He has even recruited against Hawaii. He knows all about it.

  184. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 3:00 pm

Whoops.. someone from New Zealand corrected that spelling and said it’s actually

    “TaumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakApikimaunGahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu”

    Bwahahahah!… Sort of a lovers hill…

That’s a gamble based on principal and when an opportunity presents itself to a coach to improve his or her chances to win, isn’t it a coach’s job to take that opportunity. That being said, and without naming names, countless student-athletes have returned to UH from other places to make an impact in several sports, even UH football.

  188. HawaiiMongoose January 31, 2012 3:04 pm

Huh? Taliulu switched back to WSU after talking to his family? Seriously? They want him to go to school in Pullman?? I don’t know what bill of goods they were sold but unless Tayler plans to major in veterinary medicine or plant science, WSU has nothing on Manoa academically. Nada.

  189. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 3:04 pm

After tomorrow, the real work begins… heehaw… turn over dem bodies scattered along the recruiting battle fields, gotta be a live one or two out there, somewhere.

  190. kev-1 January 31, 2012 3:05 pm

I would imagine after things settle and UH sees how many kids they lost and how many schollies they have left, they’d hit the JC’s pretty hard.

  191. Kevin January 31, 2012 3:05 pm

On a side note, it is TREMENDOUSLY disrespectful not to learn someone’s name when you are in a capacity where you should know it.

Pronounce it right and learn to spell it. People’s last names are a part of their identity and their ethnic background.

  192. kev-1 January 31, 2012 3:06 pm

Mike Leach brings a lot of attention to the program there. People will have their eyes on WSU for a few years. Especially to check the storage rooms in case there are any players being treated for concussions in there.

  193. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 3:07 pm

I disagree, I like the fallback players. Why? Because these are the guys that can convince the fence squatters to stay home in the first place.

  194. Bigislandkurt January 31, 2012 3:08 pm

….it’s not over ’till it’s over.

  200. kev-1 January 31, 2012 3:16 pm

SteveK . . . sure, I don’t disagree with that. Let them walk on, but they should be able to earn a scholarship if they deserve one later. But I have no problem with making them walk on if they want to come home. Unless of course, they change their mind before they even go to the other school. Then I would offer them one.

  201. graham January 31, 2012 3:17 pm

  207. SteveK January 31, 2012 3:22 pm

Coach Chow started out this week, with 4 or 5 of the top 10 local talent committing to the Warriors, now the may end up with ZERO. Heard rumors that Fonua, Kiha, and Lakalaka, are looking at going elsewhere.

  208. HawaiiMongoose January 31, 2012 3:23 pm

Note to Taylor: The weather forecast for Pullman tomorrow is 70% chance of snow. And the temperature will get down to 25 degrees by Thursday. Just something to think about.

Ok you said “maybe”, so it is a gamble and all D1 coaches take chances at some point, but closing the doors completely eliminates a potential positive “what if”. Coaches play the numbers game all the time, as in playing the odds, they will accept players that can contribute back for sure if the opportunity and time is right.

Bottom line, UH football is NOT in a position yet to make big body with a close door approach to departing local kids.

  213. Ipu Man January 31, 2012 3:26 pm

But diamonds in the rough can be developed with lesser known kids.

Jerry Rice, for example, in high school Rice played just about every position, from quarterback to tackle…but only one college recruited him, tiny Mississippi Valley State.

  214. 808Bowler January 31, 2012 3:27 pm

Steve wheres the aloha spirit??? auwe no wonder local kids leaving. people with no aloha spirit. Some leave and come back. Can’t cut strings. Pilares, tuipolotu all came back and had good warrior careers.

  215. SteveK January 31, 2012 3:27 pm

DPK – all I can say is, wait and see which hat these 3 wear tommorrow, LOI DAY. 😯

  216. SteveK January 31, 2012 3:30 pm

808Bowler – How good would the Warriors have been if they stayed from the beginning. 🙂

  217. al January 31, 2012 3:32 pm

stevek…pleaser drop the “k” you sound like the other steve.

if you don’t know fact don’t recite.

  218. SteveK January 31, 2012 3:33 pm

Kevin (216) – If they want to come back, they are on their own, NO SCHOLIE, WALK ON ONLY. 😡

  219. Bryson January 31, 2012 3:36 pm

In all honesty I hate to say this but for every top local prospect who chooses to go away there are 5 mainland kids who are just as good that may wanna play for Hawaii….We gotta support the ones who choose to be Warriors wether they’re from Here or the Mainland…

  220. Kevin January 31, 2012 3:38 pm

Motherf***** it’s that time of the year again isn’t it…

What the hell it’s almost been a year just shy of a month since we all played this game again so let’s go!!!!!!!

  221. Ipu Man January 31, 2012 3:40 pm

If a kid from Hawaii or the mainland gets a scholarship for football

from UH, do they get a decent dorm room? And if from UW or

Oregon, are the digs any better?

  222. Ipu Man January 31, 2012 3:41 pm

Didn’t Bush get a house from USC?

  223. SteveK January 31, 2012 3:42 pm

Rightly said, Kevin. 😀 By the way, how are the Wahine Softball Team looking, to change the subject. 😀

  224. d1shima January 31, 2012 3:45 pm

    *flick*

  225. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 3:46 pm

Not too excited now about tomorrow. Does not look promising whatsoever.

  226. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 3:48 pm

How can you commit, say you’re Warrior and a whole bunches good things about the coaches and the team, and then all of a sudden decommit and go to another school. Indecisive and a lack of respect of you ask me.

  227. KahukuRR4L January 31, 2012 3:49 pm

Im looking forward to tomorrow. I have a feeling we will all be happy.

  228. cheepono January 31, 2012 3:54 pm

#234 i sure hope so. will definitely be celebrating (even moreso after today) those that choose to become warriors tomorrow.

  229. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 3:56 pm

ST and al been so quiet lately. Guarantee they’re probably bummed and a loss for words themselves along with no good news to report.

    After al…….these are unexciting times!

  230. Kaimiloa January 31, 2012 3:58 pm

MattyBoy… you’re a real ray of sunshine, eh?

  231. Da Punchbowl Kid January 31, 2012 3:59 pm

    *tsigh*

  232. Stephen Tsai January 31, 2012 4:00 pm

    Hey, I’m back.

    I was at volleyball practice.

Heard the rumblings about Taliulu and Lakalaka, but haven’t heard back from them. They’re at basketball walk-through now, I think.

  233. SteveK January 31, 2012 4:00 pm

Once again, the Warriors will be getting the scraps when it comes to local talent. Did you all notice, there was an advertisement about LOI DAY on the UHAD site, but now it is gone. Does that mean something. :rolling:

  234. SteveK January 31, 2012 4:01 pm

    🙄

  235. KahukuRR4L January 31, 2012 4:03 pm

    I still see.

  236. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 4:03 pm

Don’t you think the news that everyone’s been hearing about the recruits is pretty lame?

  237. al January 31, 2012 4:05 pm

no i am not bummed. just sitting here watching people make fools out of themselves.

remember the guy who said we’d get nothing from this past weekend’s visitors, for example.

i like this class as it is. we have a lot good kids coming to be warriors. for the ones who do stay, i applaud you and will be supporting you for the next 4-5 years.

we go through this every year. win some lose some. that’s how it goes, it is what it is.

by us losing recruits to pac12 folks is a good sign of the times. that means that we are doing the right things in evaluating talent. nobody gets all the ones that they want. at least we are in the game for these guys and it will only get better. chow and company have only been at it for four weeks.

    …nuff said

  238. Stephen Tsai January 31, 2012 4:09 pm

It sounds like MattyBoy is bummed.

  239. d1shima January 31, 2012 4:09 pm

chawan is responsible for recruiting news? 😯

  240. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 4:09 pm

    Al,

We always lost recruits to the PAC-12 and elsewhere. Mcmackin, JJ, and so on all lost recruits to the PAC-12. How is it any different now?

  241. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 4:09 pm

    Mattyboy…

Yep.. immature… kind of starry eyed wishy-washy… pretty much a teenager with lots of goodies dangling in front of him.

Stay home and be a hometown legend where doors open along the way after you graduate or go away …

  242. Steve January 31, 2012 4:09 pm

al – you are not bummed we are losing all the top local talent, amazing. 😮

  243. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 4:10 pm

    ST,

Hahaha yeah a little. Just a little bit salty at all the rumblings lol.

  244. Bryson January 31, 2012 4:10 pm

On the bright side Dejon Allen is definetly excited to be a Warrior….He just wants the fans to make alot of noise on Saturday nights…

  245. Ipu Man January 31, 2012 4:10 pm

Hey, scraps can be good. Ask Miss Piggy:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIF2Zg0RDUA&feature=related

    🙄

  246. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 4:11 pm

    245,

I’m sorry are you referring to me as being a teenager?

  247. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 4:12 pm

If so, what an erroneous assumption lol

  248. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 4:14 pm

MIH disregard that. That was my irritating cousin who typed that. I’m sorry. Yes he is somewhat retarded

  249. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 4:14 pm

Gotta shoot for early commitments from the local kids, cause if they hem and haw until the last minute it’s hard for the recruiters to go across the big river to look for replacements in the 11th hour.

  250. Steve January 31, 2012 4:15 pm

al – let’s see, there was Taliuli, Brostek, and Lakalaka, that visited this weekend. Are any of them going to stay home. Hmmm, Taliuli to WSU, Brostek to UW, Lakalaka to UCLA, that would equal zero. Could that be what that person was talking about.

  251. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 4:15 pm

I stepped away from the computer and he started punching away on the keyboard. What a retard.

  252. Kaimiloa January 31, 2012 4:16 pm

So melodramatic. People get too hyped when a teenager disses a commitment to another school. Then they want to jump off a cliff when the same kid changes his mind the next day. Even worse, this roller coaster is fueled, not by facts but, by rumors. Wait till we see faxed commitments. Then we can talk about suitable cliffs.

  253. al January 31, 2012 4:16 pm

so we lose some local boys that were only recently (and finally) contacted by a uh coach. what is admirable is that we went after them recently when previous coaches did not even try. at least we tried.

we still have some of them, good ones, who will commit.

not like years past when they did the smoke and mirror trick. “signing” known non-qualifiers just to make the list look like they did something fooled only some of the people but not all of the people.

in the past we didn’t lose to pac12 teams. we were too lazy to go head-to-head against them is why.

  254. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 4:18 pm

Huh? Where are all these Lakalaka rumors coming from?

  255. Gonzo January 31, 2012 4:20 pm

Nevermind. Shoulda read before posting. My bad.

    Bummer.

  256. cake noodle January 31, 2012 4:21 pm

Bloggers, some of you are getting high and then going low with every little rumor. Worse than a roller coaster. Stop it already. Like al says, this happens every year.

The coaches have put out their best and now have to let God do the rest.

    The Warriors will be fine.

  257. al January 31, 2012 4:22 pm

dejon allen, mike milolave, and jerrol garcia-williams are still solid commits who visited this past weekend.

lakalaka as far as anyone knows is still a warrior.

that makes four. there could be more as we await some last minute decisions.

i was surprised about taliulu committing to hawaii this weekend because he’s been proud to be a cougar for sometime. so his flip flopping is not surprising. afterall, do it once he can do it twice. the next he speaks not many will listen.

  258. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 4:23 pm

    Bryson 225

i’m behind that statement all the way.

i’m hoping da local bruddas stay and be Warriors. if tey go, i’ll be sorry. by my sorrow will only last until da spot is filled by a qualified mainland and/or poly transplant, who wants to play for us.

and i’ll always remember what Taliulu and shaka Lakalaka said sunday. are they like Coach Chow, or are they like Sark? 24 hours will tell.

Go Warriors. and come on Hawai warriorsi. play for Hawaiii! who is calling the shots anyway?

  259. KahukuRR4L January 31, 2012 4:24 pm

    In Chow we trust!

  260. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 4:25 pm

    Al

wuz you tryin fo say what I said?

  261. ewa January 31, 2012 4:26 pm

    al, you are wise.

  262. d1shima January 31, 2012 4:28 pm

    *flick flick*

  263. Steve January 31, 2012 4:29 pm

What the Warriors, and Coach Chow need are decisive players. Players that make a decision and stick with it. Cause that is the way they will play on the playing field. Not wishy-washy ones. Players who make a decision then change it, will also do that on the playing field.

  264. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 4:32 pm

    so….

who wen to da meet dis a.m. and took my spot, inh fact all day hilo spots? 😀

were you inspired? D wuz coach focused? dang. Honolulu bruddaz, listen up. you gotta pay attention and take notes from Coach. if you want to advance to da next level, here is your chance.

Coach Chow can teach you to be a better athlete. and the training starts between your ears.

    Tailiulu and Lakalaka,

listen up. i’m talking to you.

you’re getting a lesson in management training right now.

like it or notm you’re in Hawaii 101 right now.

don’t blow your chance to be leaders of Hawaii.

you said you wuz. now do it!

but if you don’t, don’t worry. some of us have already stereotyped you.

not Coach Chow. us. Hawaii readers.

and truthfully, we don’t care if you man up. honest.

    Go Warriors!!

  265. Steve January 31, 2012 4:32 pm

All Sark and Leach need is one good season, and they are gone, they have no loyalty, not like Coach Chow. Remember that recruits.

  266. Stephen Tsai January 31, 2012 4:34 pm

    MattyBoy:

I’m a Mets-Jets-Knicks fan. I’ve been bummed for about nine months.

  267. Chee Hoo January 31, 2012 4:35 pm

Boys will be boys! Chow wants real men for the Warriors. If they don’t want to be here by all means leave. UH will be A-OK once the recruiting period shakes out all the fence straddlers. Still a great recruiting class with Milovale, Williams, Allen, Fonua, Sai, Lauvaka, and the TE’s.

  268. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 4:36 pm

We meaning I. I cannot speak for the next guy.

  269. hillmok January 31, 2012 4:37 pm

Calm down everyone. I’m sure Cal is feeling a little butt hurt too since a 5 star SS switched at the last minute it is the name of the game. Tell people buy tickets so the program makes money, so they can improve facilities, so they can attract better athletes, so they can improve the ‘brand’ image, and repeat the cycle again and again every year! It’s not the end of the world, we have some ballers on the roster right now that can make us competitive. “We are Hawaii”

  270. oldtimer808 January 31, 2012 4:42 pm

I guess wanting to represent the State and be the first class under Norm Chow to start the tradition wasn’t that important after all. It is ok to go away for school nothing wrong with that but if you are going to open da mouth and then put da foot in thats not good.

  271. wafan January 31, 2012 4:42 pm

About two hours to midnight on the East Coast!

  272. sdbowfan January 31, 2012 4:42 pm

We will see tomorrow if Mack and JJ had it right in recruiting strategy. Look for mainland kids who has a reason for a change in scenery and if a kid wants to leave the aina and not rep the 808, beat it.

  273. Stephen Tsai January 31, 2012 4:42 pm

    Just spoke with Lakalaka.

He said he’s 100 percent committed to UH.

He said he spoke with Taliulu last night, and Taylor also is fully committed to UH.

  274. wafan January 31, 2012 4:43 pm

    Too many folks being dramatic.

    Or is it just one?

  275. Steve January 31, 2012 4:43 pm

Guess we should have known this was going to happen, due to ST’s Blog Heading, “Warriors Prepared for Overtime”.

  276. Manoa January 31, 2012 4:44 pm

Oh Wow! Wow! Up and down and up!

  277. Haleakala January 31, 2012 4:44 pm

LOL. This is like when a boy takes out a girl for a month and is totally bummed out when she ditches him. He thought it was true love but most times you can’t get true love in a month. However if they go together for a year then that’s another story. By then they are very secure and trusting of their commitments to each other.

All I can say is that our coaches went for the fairest maidens unlike in past years. We have to give them credit for trying but perhaps we should expect to be ditched by some of them because the courtship was very short. Early courtships are fun and exciting. But once in a while ……ouchee!

  278. Steve January 31, 2012 4:46 pm

ST, we will see tomorrow, if they are just giving you lip service, or not. If they turn out to be giving you “lip service” never believe anything they say again.

  279. Da Punchbowl Kid January 31, 2012 4:47 pm

    bhf2 –

Go ahead. You can speak for me if you like. 😉

    To others…

Some will, some won’t, so what, move on! It aint over til its over. In Chow we Chrust. This aint his first rodeo.

  280. wafan January 31, 2012 4:47 pm

    Nytal.

  281. oldtimer808 January 31, 2012 4:48 pm

Yes we have a good recruiting class and it will get better as time goes on so nothing to worry about. The commitment and attitude to move the program forward is being demonstrated by this coaching staff. It is good that our Hawaii players have the opportunity to attend college on the mainland if that is their desire but please parents teach your child not to be indecisive and as someone put it wishy washy.

  282. desmond January 31, 2012 4:49 pm

I trust ST more than twitter.

  283. Da Punchbowl Kid January 31, 2012 4:50 pm

    #278 –

    Dey you go! 🙂

  284. Haleakala January 31, 2012 4:52 pm

Coach Chow is a true professional and I am certainly excited and happy that he is aboard. We recruited the right coach and see how much excitement that he has already brought to UH Warrior Football!! This is just the beginning!!!

  285. oldtimer808 January 31, 2012 4:53 pm

We should all just wait until tomorrow when all the faxes have been received and then we will know for sure. No sense getting over excited and assuming things. Our returning players will do well under Coach Chow. Nothing to worry about have a great day.

  286. tom mui January 31, 2012 4:53 pm

I assume that Taliulu was being honest and honorable when he said all those things in the newspaper.

  287. cheepono January 31, 2012 4:54 pm

prepared for the worst, but hoping for the best!

  288. SteveM January 31, 2012 4:54 pm

Tomorrow, February 1, is the anniversary of the service and burial of one of our most beloved Tsai-ko bloggers… Long Time UH Fan (Fred Pang). Many of us attended his service and saw him with his Tsai-ko name tag clipped to his shirt.

Tomorrow is also LOI day, so, not wanting to dampen the honors and celebrations of the day… so will post this remembrance now:

    Stephen Tsai

The Warrior Beat blog entry, February 1, 2010

….And somehow my imaginary friends became a real family.

Today, we say goodbye to one our loyal bloggers — Long Time UH Fan.

Fred Pang was a wonderful man with a great family. I remember when I delivered a prize to his house. Fred and his wife kept trying to give me a bag of goodies. I kept saying “no,” they kept insisting. When I got home, Wena asked: “Why are you coming home with more stuff than you left with?” That’s the thing about this blog. My contribution pales in comparison to what the readers offer.

    We’ll always miss you, Fred.

Long Time UH Fan’s Warrior Beat bio and a few pictures of his Tsai-ko events are at:

  289. Stephen Tsai January 31, 2012 4:55 pm

Once again, one user name per person. We let somebody back in after he got rejected by Cindy Luis. But we re-admited one person, not multiple personalities.

    Thanks again.

  290. cheepono January 31, 2012 4:58 pm

looks like fehoko fanaika will be taking his time to make a decision on where he will attend. won’t be announcing tomorrow.

Hoko, another big offensive lineman, won’t be committing to anyone on Wednesday

    http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsususports/53415732-55/utah-fanaika-state-tribune.html.csp

  291. wowlaulau January 31, 2012 4:58 pm

Stephen, Are you also getting confirmation from Taliulu? He could have changed his mind since last night….

  292. jonj January 31, 2012 4:59 pm

Idk why people are still dissing on Mack. he had one really bad year with local recruiting and people say he didnt try or anything! And on top of that Last years local recruits was a very down year! Also think about the Top Local talent on the offensive side…. Yea they were basically all Pro style kids… besides the offensive lineman who would we really want in the R&S???

    2008

    P. Falemalu

    H. Correa

    G. hanohano

    K. Lacount

    A. Laurel

    A. tachibana

I believe all these guys were starters at some point or had significant playing time

    2009

    K. ALo

    J. Loffler

    C. winchester-Makainai

    M. Malepeai

    C. Shutter

    B.R. Stutzman

    A. Tonga

again u have some starters and special teams players

    2010

    S. Anguay

    F. Llyod

    D. lefotu

    M. Samia

    S. Shiegematsu

    C. friel

    I. Eselu

    D. Elisara

    B. Yeap

Co-DPY and some 3* local kids

in 2011 we all know what happened. Get Real people mack Did a good job recruiting locally and I believe he did a great job recruiting in general!

Now Im happy coach Chow is here! he seems to be doing a great job recruiting locally, but I believe he will learn the disadvantages of trying to recruit locally to the local team! All of us kids jus want to go away and see for ourselves

  293. whitey January 31, 2012 5:00 pm

whatever happens tomorrow happens for a reason. for da warriors, it is coach chow’s standard of recruiting. he may miss sum, but he is already on track to get a solid class of recruits. give him credit with only one full month of recruiting, he has done a very very good job. kudos to him and his assistants. thank you very much. now wait till tomorrow.

  294. Stephen Tsai January 31, 2012 5:03 pm

    wowlaulau:

He’s playing in a basketball game tonight. I’ll find out afterward.

Or, if our Kamehameha alumni would like to go to the game and call me, that would be good, too.

I think we need to start doing that KSSK posse thing.

  295. koakane January 31, 2012 5:06 pm

    kden chance um

  296. koakane January 31, 2012 5:07 pm

    again

  297. cheepono January 31, 2012 5:07 pm

paul honda probably going to the game. can ask him to ask taylor.

  298. Bryson January 31, 2012 5:08 pm

Let’s be excited about kids like Dejon Allen who chose us over UW….One Leaves One Takes His Place…

  299. whitey January 31, 2012 5:09 pm

i was skeptical of coach chow’s hiring, but wanted to see if my skepticism was right or wrong. he got on his horse and was off to the recruiting roundup which impressed me cause i neva knew he could recruit. i thought he was a great teacher/coach, but had no inkling on his recruiting prowness. i think now he is on track to do very well his first season and he is generating a new enthusiasm at uh. this could be the start of a revival of warrior football interest in the state.

  300. 808Bowler January 31, 2012 5:09 pm

    Boy I love roller coasters!!!!!

  301. desmond January 31, 2012 5:11 pm

We scored a bunch of other good recruits, im happy.

  302. al January 31, 2012 5:12 pm

not sure of taliulu’s decision. however he chooses you have respect it as these are important decision’s to make and could affect him at least for the next 4-5 years.

i am sure that if he departs it will open the door for another.

  303. Stephen Tsai January 31, 2012 5:14 pm

Where are all the Kamehameha alumni when we need them?

  304. H20 January 31, 2012 5:14 pm

    #295

He did change his mind since last night. The article on scout (cougfan.com) is an interview from today saying he thought about it last night, this morning, and today and switched back to wazzu.

  305. kapakahi January 31, 2012 5:14 pm

I hope that I feel better after this roller coaster ride ends!

  306. oldtimer808 January 31, 2012 5:15 pm

I hate em roller coasters makes me sick to da stomach…hey get me off that Ferris wheel.

  307. al January 31, 2012 5:16 pm

on another note….i can see that steven lakalaka is exactly the kind warrior we want to represent our university and more importantly our state. i envision him to be a great leader for the university of hawaii.

eventually, dr. steven lakalaka will be known by all of hawaii.

  308. MattyBoy January 31, 2012 5:17 pm

Ok. Its time for me to stop being a downer boy. Wishing All the athletes the best of luck tomorrow! I guess we just gotta hope for the best!

  309. cheepono January 31, 2012 5:22 pm

#308. yeah taliulu called mike leach and staff THIS AFTERNOON.

i feel bad for lakalaka. one of his “best friends” straight up betrayed him by not even mentioning going back to wsu after re-affirming their commitments about UH last night.

steven lakalaka is a true warrior. and exactly the type of kid we want in our program representing the university, community, and state. all others need not apply.

  310. 808Bowler January 31, 2012 5:22 pm

I would love for all athletes to stay home. But love more seeing them get a opportunities to further their education. I soon will be in that situation in a few years with my kids.

Ya im happy with the kids that we got. good teams have good line play. I see why coach chow heavily recruiting that area.

Kids that go away give me a reason to watch those teams. Since mantai and his teammate went to notre dame I always watch their games.

  311. Papolo_Loco January 31, 2012 5:23 pm

My attitude to the recruits is if you don’t to be a Warrior then we don’t want you.

  312. shorebreak January 31, 2012 5:31 pm

Going for the best is the best strategy, but for Hawaii it is best to look for kids with potential three for years down the road; developement of talent should be the hallmark of Hawaii football. Kids still growing into their shoes will mean bigger stronger kids down the road.

Also maybe sifting through the public school rosters will turn turn up hungrier, more determined, strong minded

atheletes, above all play with kids that want to be here.

  313. Old School Dave January 31, 2012 5:35 pm

Win some, you lose some, but you keep on fighting. Props to Lakalaka, being interested in medicine. I’ve visited the UH Med School and it’s a nice place to study – made me want to go back to school and become a doctor, too 🙂

  314. Gambit808 January 31, 2012 5:39 pm

I don’t get it. Wazzu is bottom of the pac12. Does taliulu think leach will just change things right away? At least we have a chance in mountain west

  315. whitey January 31, 2012 5:44 pm

  317. RZ January 31, 2012 5:46 pm

If they want to go away let em go. If they want to come back we will have a way to measure how good they are because they are coming from a D1 program. We could then keep the ones who we feel can make a contribution to our program.

  318. whitey January 31, 2012 5:46 pm

Each team gets one phone call.

Washington State used its call today.

UH gets to make a call tonight.

By the way, whether a player stays or goes, he shouldn’t be trashed by his home state. A person has to do what he feels is best for him. And his parents and relatives are in your community. People should be happy for other people.

  325. A-joe January 31, 2012 5:51 pm

These are 17 year old kids making what possibly is the biggest decision in their lives. Their retrospect is very limited. I don’t blame them if they waffle or are indecisive. I can still see Jeremy Perry just cringing at his decision on signing day. It’s tough.

Bottom line is I want kids who want to be here. Not because you or I said they should be here.

They don’t have to be 3, or 5 star rated. Just have the desire and passion to get a good education, play their best and represent us well.

I’ll be happy with whomever commits to UH tomorrow. I’ll welcome them with open arms.

As for the local kids that will choose to go abroad, I applaud them all and support each and every one of them. I hope they make us all proud. If any of them should ever cross UH on the battlefield, I expect them to represent their colors with pride, play like Warriors and bring their A-game against us.

Good luck to all the athletes tomorrow.

  326. Da Punchbowl Kid January 31, 2012 5:52 pm

  328. WWF January 31, 2012 5:55 pm

17 year old boys should go where their hearts take them, not where their parents tell them to go. If they dreamt of becoming Warriors growing up, who are their parents to take their dream away and send them to ass freezing weather for 4 or 5 years? Parents, let them live their dreams and be Warriors.

If their dream is to go away, then bless them and send them on their new journey. Some return home realizing that Hawaii is home and that is where they belong. Welcome them home if they return.

Best way to keep our best local players home and attract the best players from the rest of the world is to win.

Coach Chow has begun recruiting Hawaii players and mainland players with a tenacity and spirit not seen in previous coaching staffs. Good things will happen with time. I believe.

  329. HawaiiMongoose January 31, 2012 5:56 pm

Actually the guy I’m excited about landing is Kiha Sai. I think that guy is a more important recruit than Taliulu or even Brostek. He could anchor our O-line for years to come. Thank you for becoming a UH Warrior, Kiha!

  330. oldtimer808 January 31, 2012 5:57 pm

  333. cheepono January 31, 2012 6:08 pm

I think it’s foolish to think these BCS schools are abiding by the “one phone call” rule.

  334. Buffoman January 31, 2012 6:09 pm

Hey, I am amazed how quickly the tide turns. I am still looking forward to tomorrow. getting Benny F (don’t want to misspell), Mr. Sai and others who are our local boys who chose to become Warriors is a big deal. If Mr. Brostek chooses UW, all the best, if Mr. Taliulu changed back to WSU, okay. And too, if Mr. Lakalaka decides to become a Bruin.

Coach Chow did his best in the little time he had to cultivate the interest of these young men and yes, it may have been too little too late.

The alternative if we did not make a coaching change…no even try. Would we have been happier with that effort?

Nope, I am very happy with the effort from our coach and would hope that you would support the effort. This is after all our team.

It will be exciting, and thank you again young men, who have committed to play for your home team!

Hmmm.. Maybe it’s more like this. Boy meets Girl. They like what they see… like what they hear.. enjoy each other’s company and promises…They decide to date seriously. Boy tells his friends. Next day, the friend sees the girl hugging her “ex” boyfriend. Friend tells the boy who gets all hu-hu and goes off in a rampage of unfettered emotions. Later that evening he confronts the girl.

    B: Who were you with?

    G: My ex.

    B: Why?

G: I was telling him about you and telling him that I wouldn’t be seeing him anymore.

B: Yeah? Well, my friend saw you guys hugging and smootching..

G: Yeah.. was kind of sad. We’ve been friends for over ten years, so it was hard to say goodbye. But, I want to make it work with you so I said goodbye and hugged him one last time. Are you angry?

You’ve been nothing but nice to me but c’mon, to say anyone should support Wazzu just because? That’s just naive to me. I will call it right now. 4 years straight UW WILL OWN WAZZU in apple cup. His choice. Hope he’s happy. But that doesn’t change the fact that Wazzu is the bottom. Leach ain’t gonna change that

    329 A-Joe:

I agree with you. This is a lot of pressure on these young men. It’s probably the biggest decision of their young lives.

If some of them decide that they want to try to live away from home and experience life elsewhere, then so be it. I applaud whatever decision they make and wish them all the best. I cannot condemn them for their decision. Those that decide to stay and get an education at the University of Hawaii and to play for the home team, then that is great. Of course, we are all very happy when that happens. But it is big decision for these young men and also their parents.

Just saying I think that it is good that a young man is able to get a scholarship and go to college. But it bothers me when people say that I need to be happy for those who choose to go away. I am a Warrior fan so I support and cheer for all who choose to play for the home team. The players who play for other teams will get their support from their families, friends and the fans of whatever school they go to. They made their choice and there is nothing wrong with that. There is just one team that represents Hawaii and that is the team that I cheer for. Just saying.

  350. Garret January 31, 2012 6:28 pm

Article in tomorrow’s Monterey County Herald about Mike Milovale–getting an experienced LT is a HUGE key for the upcoming season.

Milovale, who is of Polynesian decent, didn’t have Hawaii on his radar until new coach Norm Chow showed up on the Hartnell College campus last week, asking the offensive left tackle to come out for a visit.

“How many head coaches fly out and come talk to you personally?” Hartnell football coach Matt Collins said.

Prior to Hawaii coming into the picture, Milovale was weighing offers from Louisiana Tech, which tried to bring him in last summer, Middle Tennessee State, where teammate Nick Nunez ended up, and East Carolina University.

For recruits, there will not be another point in the time of their lives where they will experience the greatest love and the greatest bs from coaches.

No wonder for some, their heads are spinning.

But the decision has to be right for them. They need to sleep on it, ask God for direction and hopefully get peace about their decision in the morning.

If its any consolation, every school in Div. I is probably going through what the Warriors are going through. It seems to be more so this year bc there are lots of coaches, especially the really good recruiters, changing jobs due to the big money the BCS schools are receiving from the TV contracts. Do the kids follow the coaches? The kids start riding the roller coaster just like the fans.

Despite all this, the Warriors will be fine.

Brother, no dis-respect intended, but if you take that way, I apologize.

You, my friend, have absolutely no idea what you’re talking / blogging about!

It’s apparent you haven’t spoken to some of local high school standouts over the past few seasons yourself. I, and it reads that some others that frequent the WB indeed have talked to some / many / few of those kids.

In my opinion, and again I understand we all have one, what went on during the past 4 seasons as far as recruiting goes, especially local kids, was a complete and utter disgrace, a sham, a farce, a joke, a lack of effort, poor evaluating, very poor contact and / or communication with the kids, their families and most importantly their high school coaches.

I suggest that if you know a kid, or maybe even a coach, go ahead an ask them what they feel about U-H coaches recruiting efforts over the past few seasons.

Again, please do not take this as any dis-respect because none is intended. I just wanted to share with all what I know, much different from what some may think.

  363. Ipu Man January 31, 2012 7:05 pm

    RZ 353. I’m with you.

    354. Milovale is almost as important as Kiha Sai. Sai was the first big name who wen commit to our new Coach.

    In Sai we trust.

I’m hoping the Polys know that they got a home base in Hawaii. At all the other schools, you playing for yourself and another school. You not playing fo da home team.

I’m making big sacrifices this year. real big. because this is my home. my team.

  365. cocobean January 31, 2012 7:10 pm

#353. A lot fans share your sentiment, you aren’t the only one who has no aloha for kids that sign else where.

But I do think that’s the minority point of view. I feel most people aren’t happy that a kid decides to go but they don’t begrudge his decision.

The pros and cons of staying home or going away have been debated since the Tomey years. It’ll continue as long as UH has a football team.

I do follow the careers of the kids that make a name for themselves else where. I’m happy for their success. It still brings me pride when someone like Manti flashes the shaka on National TV.

You can take the boy out of Hawaii but you can’t take Hawaii out of the boy.

  366. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 7:13 pm

    Bleed Green and white.

I understand why you might feel that way, but why go talk like that, publicly? Not going change anything. Maybe we (UH) culd have done better. Looking back, alot of good ones got away. We also got some good ones too. So why put down the effort? No need. We’re here and now, and we got a great Coach, and some great great hold overs. So lets support all of them, the returnees and the incoming class.

Because we’re all in this together. right?! even da bruddaz not as smaht as you me. ::mrgreen:

Shaka Lakalaka and Boom TT Boom

the young man who went away and who I support is the Beast, Ryan Eastman. He tried to play for us. He did real good when he played against us. He is representing himself, his family. great man at Weber State.

Abe Markowich is also representing himself very well. C at USC. pushes himself. great parents.

there are others. what distinguishes these players from others is that there is no evidence of wishy washy in them. none. that is a huge plus. i do not like wishy washy. never did. never will. once you see the hole, and you commit, you gotta keep da line. das a fak! oddawize you get no respect.

just saying. because I’m trying to tell shaka and taliulu that their paths have been chosen. and going any odda way is not gonna look good. not because i said it, but because everybody else is thinking it.

just saying out loud. and i don’t say that with any ounce of disrespect. i’m saying it because i truly wish you two succeed in life. but if you not going explain why you went dis way den dat den dis, den da die is cast. wishy washy. and you two are too good to get dat stereotype. too good for that kinda tag!

    so suck it up, and….

    go Warriors!!!!!!

If you should be fortunate enough to go on to the pros, we will reclaim you as our own, no matter where you attended college. I hope you will find much success in the classroom and return to Hawaii, with a degree, to contribute and make us an even greater place to live. Make a wise, educated decision. I wish you much peace and clarity as you make this very important decision. Choose your success and it will come.

My advice to Taliulu — do not commit to anyone. Hop on a plane and go visit the campus unannounced, and see if you are still in love.

I got burned 2x playing this game.

I visited my first school over spring break when everyone was gone. Turned out everyone in the school is white. I transferred the next year after visiting a cold weather school in July. Winter came in October and last into May. I’ve never seen more depressed, binge drinking, overweight people in my life. I transferred again the next year. Live and learn.

  391. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 8:00 pm

    390. good advice. and wise tale.

problem is, coach Chow not waiting on anybody. I can feel da vibe ah da man. he’s on a mission. got specific pukaz to fill. and EVERYBODY gotta be on board! sometimes things just work out the way they do because…. because….. tiiming is everything.

nice to know the best coulda chose us, UH, Warriors.

Maybe that’s why Dustin Adams turned down UH…

  394. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 8:06 pm

i remember da good ole days. 17/18. scared as kaka. da big world out dare. cold. inhospitable. peeps whispering good stuffs in my ears. and da cold reality is you are all alone. and the more you do, the more isolated you become. you become over qualified.

its time to grow up, men. make life plans. esay when you go away. you can still be a kid. no make plans. but if you stay here, you gotta make plans.

thats not a bad thing. make like Inoke Funaki. he’s got plans. you dn’t have to go on a mission to make plans for the rest of your life.

Lava gave you good advice. I got good advice too. Make plans. You can always change your plans as you go along in life. better not to, because often that means you’ve wasted some time, but you can,

  395. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 8:09 pm

  416. Garret January 31, 2012 8:42 pm

I know that this is not Warrior related, but this is my favorite recruiting story that does not relate to UH (though UH will face this recruit this season). With all of the members of the military serving in Hawaii, I’d love to read similar story about a recruit signing with the Warriors someday.

Justin Aysse just turned 25. He didn’t graduate from high school. Instead, he got a GED certificate and a four-year tour of duty with the Marines, including deployments to Iraq (2007-08) and Afghanistan (2009). He said he will sign with San Diego State Wednesday after getting a scholarship offer from the Aztecs to play offensive tackle.

“My entire time in the Marine Corps, I was like, ‘I just want to play football again,’” Aysse said Tuesday. “I know I can still do it, and I actually played one year in the Marines. The one year I wasn’t deployed during football season, I played on the base team. We won the championship. I said, ‘I know I can still do this.’”

@ Gambit- rajah that- the alcohol rate amongst teens is crazy– meth pretty big too- worked with native men to try and reconnect them back to their families– very difficult. . . as far as Pullman- you know it is truly a bleak and dreary place in the winter- summer was a lil better- I enjoyed my time on Bainbridge Island as well as the Olympia area. . . wish the brother the best of luck!

I remember something I heard Coach Lee tell a teammate of mine– If you plan on living in Hawai’i, no greater chance to have your future employer meet you as you perform before 40-50 K or so on Saturday Nights!

  421. kev-1 January 31, 2012 9:01 pm

So much speculation going around. I am glad the negativity that permeated the blog this afternoon has waned. People gotta give these guys a break. They are making HUGE decisions about their future. Can’t knock them for looking away. There is so much the world outside of Hawaii has to offer. One of my biggest regrets as an adult is that I have been so “sheltered” out here in Hawaii. I love my home and wouldn’t trade it for the world, but often feel like I should have experienced something else. At least for a little while. I applaud these young men for at least considering the opportunity to benefit themselves. Whether it be in Hawaii, Pullman, or wherever else.

Any player from Waianae or Farrington coming to play for the Warriors.

  425. kev-1 January 31, 2012 9:07 pm

    Non-Warrior related, but relevant . . .

I just read a touching story about a Wazzu commit who made his declaration not in front of TV cameras, not at a school assembly, or anywhere else. He made it at his mother’s hospital bedside. She has been in a coma for over a month. He sat there and called Leach so his mother could hear him make the committment over the phone. She raised him as a single mother, and apparently it has not always been easy. He believes she heard him. I think so too.

Let’s not lose sight of what going away to college might mean for some families. Opportunites that were never available to them, are now suddenly presented to their children. Parents want what’s best for their children, and sometimes that means going away.

  426. Haleakala January 31, 2012 9:07 pm

Sorry I’m in on this a day late.

“Co-Ed,” The University of Hawai’i Fight Song, has been rated as one of the best College Fight Songs in the nation. . . and seems to be better known to the rest of the nation than its own “fans.”

    Top 15 College Fight Songs:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/388344-the-top-15-college-fight-songs#/articles/388344-the-top-15-college-fight-songs

    (Co-Ed listed as #13)

Hawai’i’s fight song, “Co-Ed Fight Song” comes from a march titled “Co-Ed” which was originally published in 1914 and written by John Zamecnik, an Ohio native that studied music at the Prague Conservatory of Music.

Battle Cries: The 9 Greatest College Fight Songs:

    http://www.totalprosports.com/2010/09/30/battle-cries-the-9-greatest-college-fight-songs/

While Hawaii is not the first school that comes to mind when you think of rich football traditions, its fight song is classic enough to fool you into thinking this team could have been in the Big Ten.

  431. Not an Expert January 31, 2012 9:23 pm

What time can they submit their letter of intent? Eastern time 12 am, Hawaii is 7 pm. They are 5 hours ahead of us. If cannot do the same as the east coast, disadvantage UH. Last, in this case not the best. Like running in a marathon you want to be first in line or the last one behind the pack. By the time you cross the starting line the guys in the front of the line 1/3 of a mile in front.

  434. kev-1 January 31, 2012 9:25 pm

335 . . . did you really just quote Curran? Is that what the world is coming to? People used to quote philosophers and idealists for inspirational thought. Now we quote (insert good or bad word here) radio hosts?

I know, I just got through telling people to temper their words about these recruits, etc. Hey, he’s a grown man. He can take it.

  435. Not an Expert January 31, 2012 9:31 pm

Why a disadvantage? A school on the continent fills all their scholarships but has one more to give. They look at Hawaii and says it’s not 12 am there in the islands yet. See who is committed to Hawaii that we can make a last hour poach before they are allowed to receive their commits.

If all schools can use the EST that is okay. If not another thing that needs to change. East coast has the greatest advantage as time moves to the west.

if i was into giving a kid really good advice, i’d look to 386 and 390.

in fact, having given it alot of thought, if i was all stressed out on this one,

i’d hold off the commit tomorrow, let the home team have its day, no get in da way, and

make a decision later. But I’d also call the coaches, let them know this is stressful. But before that, i’d be thinking of what i’d say to the press, given that i’ve already said alot to thepress. Gotta have a prepared speech because alot of peeps gonna take the decision the wrong way.

just saying. not being negative. just trying to help a fellow Tsaiko out in helping a friend’s kid out. honext.

To Taliuli’s parents, I hope your son does not mind playing with a concussion, even a severe one. Cause Mike Leach has shown he does not care about the safety, and health, of his players. All he cares about is winning, at all cost. Think about that.

  442. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 9:48 pm

    Steve

why you gotta bring up da negativity wit Mike Leach? 😀

try da subliminal approach. da man looks up young men in da broom closet, turns out da lights, make da kid go wa wa. and when he gets caught, he tells da tv host fadda an national tv it wuz fo da gooda da kid. he neva. 😆

oh…. wrong fadda? wrong Leach? i’d radda talk about da good ole Wazzu. Coach Tormey’s team. nice peeps ober dare. i remember flying ober date last year, from D.C. to Seattle over the Rockies in da area. beautiful snow view from 28K up. I can see dat on tv too.

To our high school footballers inking letters of intent tomorrow, best of luck to you and give your best shot wherever you CHOOSE to go. At this point, only you know where your headed in spite of some of these entertaining comments here on this blog…If your a Warrior, I’ll be cheering for you hard, got my season tickets. You choose to go away, your game, where ever that maybe, starts way before Hawaii’s one so I’ll be cheering you on still too…

KS alumni here, but I was at Nuuanu YMCA tonight Mr. Tsai. Think I’m gonna join the Y as well. Anyways, I can’t take all this who’s coming, who’s going drama. Just tell me who signed in the morning. To me, the offensive line is the most important part of any football team. If you can run the ball, and give the passer time, it’s pretty hard to stop you. And it seems like we are going to pick up some excellent lineman. With a killer offensive line, even our blog host could run for a 100 yards a game. I just like everything I hear and see about Norm Chow. My only thought is what took us so long to get him?

i NEVER give up on a kid, unless the kid gives up on hisself. Taliulu was in the moment, and tried to help his friend out, tried to help himself out, tried to help Hawaii out. and he went and made public comments. about himself. about the Warriors.

    and thats where we stand.

and if he’s now trying to backtrack from that, and go Wazzu, as Lava said, that is so wrong on so many levels. I agree with that sentiment.

Brudda has to backtrack. gracefully. honestly, without disgrace to UH. without disgrace to himself or his friends.

his mother and father didn’t go on the recruit trip. he did. his mother and father didn’t make the public statement. he did. that is why he has to fix his public image. him.

you want my best advice? stay here and fight through himself. its that simple. its that easy. not because he’s a great player. not because he’ll have to work harder here than he will in Wazzu. but because he’s a great man and his word is good.

  448. Bighuhu January 31, 2012 10:18 pm

  462. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 10:40 pm

two of my grand daughters went away. one got a schollie 5 thousand miles away. i know about cheering the kids that go away, test their wings, yada yada.

i care for Hawaii football. really do. and i care for Taylor Taliulu. two weeks ago that name did not mean anything to me. now it does. now he does. up to him. i gave him my best advice. honest advice. his coice. and like i said, it won’t bother me, his choice. but he’ll have to live with his choice. and i know people. i’d rather spend time with my dog than with people. my dog is honest and means me well. can you say that about your neighbor? thats what i’m saying. we have some aama crab kinda neighbors. i don’t want that for a well meaning young man who only meant us well. now he’s gotta suck it up. whatever his choice, his speech writing gotta be his A game. for real.

  463. madeinhawaii January 31, 2012 10:45 pm

I have nothing against the kids that go away on a scholarship. I’m happy for them and proud that our island boys have garnered the attention of schools here as well as those as far away as UMass. I wish them well. If they do well and I hear about them cause they make the sports headlines in our local papers, then it makes me feel proud. If they do something wrong and I read about it, I feel the shame, too. But if they are good enough to start but not good enough to get written up about locally, I’ll soon forget who they are and their names will never ring a bell for me. Still, I will wish them well, when I am reminded by someone, because they are from Hawai’i.

    BigHiloFan,

I got good neighbors. Very honest, very real.

    (#456 – Steve)

    Brah!

Go easy on Shane Brostek, he’s just a kid. How about he doesn’t live there because his parents live in Kamuela. Damn bro!

As much as anybody else, I would have loved for him to chose UH, but at the end of the day he’s still a kid born and raised in Hawaii, on of ours so to speak, and I for one, wish him nothing but the best.

Except of course, when Washington plays UH.

As a matter of fact, that goes for any kid that does indeed chose to go away for college, he/she is still one of ours, and I will always root for them.

  466. whitey January 31, 2012 10:55 pm

mih, how true. just take one name out of the hat, michael carter. a lot of people in hawaii know who he is and still remember him, but i’ll bet in his hometown, not many will remember him. somehow the kids who play for uh, no matter what sport, are long remembered after their playing days.

  467. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 11:06 pm

    MIH

just let me say I get your point.

  468. Kevin January 31, 2012 11:07 pm

    Bleed Green and White,

Not sure how long you have been on this blog, but you are talking about the same guy that has for a FACT made personal attacks on student-athletes in the past and has made FALSE accusations about UH coaches and has in FACT attempted to cite former student-athletes for supposedly being the source of false information, thus adding another victim to his character assasination diatribes.

If one is going to lie about others, one should make sure that the people he lies about and also tries to include in his lies are not known to others reading the false information.

Nothing he says is of any value unless words can be turned into toilet paper.

  469. BigHiloFan2 January 31, 2012 11:13 pm

If our young men choose to go away, good on them, experience a big program.

If our young men choose to stay home, good on them, experience a big world.

From a business point of view, no matter what degree you present at a job interview there is always someone who can do it better and cheaper then you. What will save/help you are your connections.

To you recruits sitting on the fence, read the book “The World Is Flat” by Thomas Freeman. Basically, U.S. workers are getting outpaced behind workers from all over the world. Unless any graduate in the U.S. understands what is happening and going to happen in Asia, he/she is at a huge disadvantage.

This is where UH and the East-West Center proves it’s worth. The world is flattening out and the U.S. is not at the pinnacle anymore, nor are U.S. students. However, the student who understands Asia will climb the ladder quicker. And in Asia, they don’t care much for football, they care more about culture, relationships. In contrast in the U.S. we are more ego-centric, individualistic.

So when you choose your university, think of course about football, but also think about this-China annually has over 1 million unemployed college graduates who are equal to or better then the average U.S. graduate. India is the same. When you graduate, more then any of us here you will be facing competition from top students by the tens of millions from India, China, Korea, Singapore, etc…

So my opinion is this for the current generation graduating from high school…is a degree from Hawaii or Washington or wherever else going to make a difference? No, it won’t. However, what will are two things. First is your connections, and second is your understanding of Asia.

I’m saying this because I’m based in Southeast Asia. I can tell you kids from UH excel here and make a name because kids from Hawaii are blessed with understanding both East and West. To you recruits, think bigger. Think football, think degree, then think job or creating a business. I can 100% guarantee you what you do after college will be influenced from Asia. Understand a “flat” world, and understand where Hawaii and Hawaii’s people are undeniably uniquely poised to shine.

Governor, are you hearing me? Put money in football, put money in almost anything UH. Market UH all over Asia-not just Japan and China because this generations opportunities will come from such things as MNCs in Southeast Asia. It’ll come from the thousand of independent U.S. business owners who need a U.S. link in Asia or has an understanding or connections in Asia.

For you recruits, I know this was long, but so is college and so is your life. My opinion, stay home because when the pads come off, your connections and your understanding of culture will separate you from the millions of degree holders you will be competing with. And culture, understanding and respecting cultures comes natural to all of us in Hawaii. It may seem simple to us, but in other places in the world to have an American who respects and understands your culture is huge deal. This is where UH and things like the East-West Center, the sheer diversity of the people and cultures in Hawaii will clearly make you more desirable in the “real world” then you ever were as a recruit.

    As I first started off,

If our young men choose to go away, good on them, experience a big program.

If our young men choose to stay home, good on them, experience a big world.

Kevin, I would not talk to much. I have friends that have contributed to the Softball program, but have not gotten what they were suppose to get for contributing. Not even a thank you, letter. They are not very happy about it. They feel you people are just a bunch of crooks, hiding behind the Softball program.

  474. cocobean January 31, 2012 11:30 pm

LauraK has friends? Thought he was a loner.

  475. Steve January 31, 2012 11:40 pm

Local recruits, here is something to think about. How many Warriors are playing in the NFL, or CFL, compared to the ones that went away. If my count is right, there are more Warriors playing in both the NFL and CFL, then there are the ones that went away. One main reason, when you are a Warrior, you play, not ride the bench. Mainland schools can easily get better players then you. The Warriors cannot always, so you play and gain valuable experience, inside of just riding the bench, not gaining any playing experience. By the way, those Warriors that are playing at the next level, have are playing a dominant role for their professional team. THINK ABOUT IT!!!!

  476. PowderPuff January 31, 2012 11:45 pm

Happy National Letter of Intent Day, Tsaikos. It’s a new day, indeed.

Lots of prayers and positive thoughts to JD and his ‘ohana.

  477. Steve January 31, 2012 11:48 pm

Cocobean, let’s just say, may friends could very easily build a new wahine softball stadium, one that would be the envy of all the other colleges. They have money to burn. As for the Warrior lockerroom, let me just say, things are in the works.

  478. Steve January 31, 2012 11:55 pm

So before any of the new incoming freshman recruit finish their Warrior career, they will have something very proud to have and showcase. That is why I do not care if you mock me, cause in the end, you people will be eating your words.

  479. cocobean February 1, 2012 12:06 am

LauraK. You once stated that you were a mover and a shaker in HI. That we’d be suprised if we really know who you are.

Well, I know who you are. I know your name and what you look like. I told you before that if you’d like me to introduce myself the next time I see you let me know. Nothing confrontational.

Just want to be able to say I met Steve and he’s really _____________ ………..

I’m have season tix for FB and MBB. I’ve been to most WBB also.

  480. al February 1, 2012 12:08 am

    its time.

its time to bust out the smu machine.

  481. al February 1, 2012 12:09 am

    cocobean…great idea.

after you meet him we can arrange for him to meet bern.

  482. kev-1 February 1, 2012 12:19 am

the smu machine? al, what dat?

  483. al February 1, 2012 12:29 am

you know…when someone over extends their welcome the boss gets out the smu machine which eliminates the troll. that action was declared as one being “smu’d”.

pretty effective piece of equipment. in fact, cindy luis also has one in her aresenal.

  484. al February 1, 2012 12:31 am

    what to do?

stay up for some news or take a long power nap, too.

morning paper arrives in an hour which will have limited print.

most of the telling will show up on the wb.

    ah. what to do?

after all…these are exciting times, indeed.

  485. kev-1 February 1, 2012 12:32 am

    oh, got it

  486. Steve February 1, 2012 12:32 am

al, why would I want to meet Bern, when he sends his kid to UW. He is not part of Hawaii.

  487. Steve February 1, 2012 12:46 am

Oh, by the way, I do agree with you Tsaiko’s on one thing, UH needs to get rid of there so called Mascot, Vini the Warrior. How can he say that he represents the Warriors, when he sends all his boys away to mainland colleges to play. To me he is, Vini the Turncoat. One more thing, since when is a Warrior a fat slob. If UH wanted a true Warrior Mascot, they should hire David Maeva.

  488. al February 1, 2012 12:50 am

oh, i thought you’d want to man up and tell it to his face.

    sorry.

  489. Steve February 1, 2012 1:03 am

I only like to meet those that truly care about UH, not turn their backs on UH.

  490. BleedGreen808 February 1, 2012 1:10 am

  493. al February 1, 2012 1:17 am

i wanted to introduce you to my friend a year ago but you somehow avoided the conversation.

my friend wanted to meet you and discuss why you were always putting his daughter down.

he, too, wanted to meet you face to face.

i think you may remember that daniel mafua as danny mafua’s dad.

and yes, he met your criteria, he really supported uh.

  498. Edgardo Mcgarrity February 1, 2012 1:36 am

After this post – http://warriorbeat.staradvertiserblogs.com/2012/01/31/warriors-prepared-for-overtime/ is now added to my favorites!

  499. al February 1, 2012 1:39 am

    here’s why…

    al:

    January 31st, 2012 at 5:16 pm

on another note….i can see that steven lakalaka is exactly the kind warrior we want to represent our university and more importantly our state. i envision him to be a great leader for the university of hawaii.

eventually, dr. steven lakalaka will be known by all of hawaii.

he’s made a statement with his commitment. that we should be proud of our team and state and by his choosing to stay and represent he has paved the way for others to follow.

he and the other local boys who eventually stay home this year are trendsetters and statement makers.

yes indeed, these are exciting times for sure.

    …nuff said

  500. Steve February 1, 2012 1:45 am

al, are you kidding, the one that started it all was Benny Fonua. Lakalaka, is not even able to convince his good friend from staying and playing for the Warriors.

  501. haka February 1, 2012 1:46 am

al, i noticed justin turner wasn’t listed. is he going elsewhere?

  502. BleedGreen808 February 1, 2012 1:53 am

    Thanks for the info

  503. haka February 1, 2012 1:58 am

  504. slenzi February 1, 2012 2:00 am

Don’t hit that submit comment button too soon. Read what you wrote first. Is it filled with Aloha and Ohana? if not Then why send? Because what you have to say is more important than anyone’s feelings. This blog is fun because most people show respect for one another, including the coaches and recruits they mention. Lets keep da kuleana pono!

  505. Hal Seara February 1, 2012 2:09 am

Excellent post. I was checking constantly this website and I am impressed! Very useful info particularly the last part. I care for like information much. I was looking due to this particular information for some time. Thank you and all the best.

  506. Pun Dad February 1, 2012 3:18 am

As Wednesday morning arrives, I wan to thank Doris for all that she does. It is easy to talk or (write on a blog) but she is actively helping our student athletes throughout the year. From combines, to clinics, to SAT prep classes, to establishing a clearinghouse and hosting their videos and information, she does quite a bit all through the year. Of course, for all this work, she gets paid nothing.

This morning we are off to downtown for Signing Day and lets see, she organized that too.

Feb 1 should be Doris Sullivan Day for all that she does.

  507. wafan February 1, 2012 3:47 am

    A super LOI Day!

An early welcome to the new Warriors; and a good luck to those going away. In either case study and work hard to make your family proud!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  508. wafan February 1, 2012 3:48 am

    Just after 4am HST.

Are the FAX’s coming in? Who was first!

  509. wafan February 1, 2012 4:00 am

Funny how one is noticed and revealed.

    Hilarious that one never learns.

  510. wafan February 1, 2012 4:04 am

    Kevin . . .

Kind of rough and definitely recycled. Definitely not Charmin.

Perhaps Mr. Whipple need to be reincarnated.

  511. A-joe February 1, 2012 4:11 am
