Smethurst won't be back

Justine Smethurst, who went on a one-year sabbatical to pitch for Australia’s national team in the 2008 Olympics, apparently will not return to the UH softball team.
Smethurst, who has two year of NCAA eligibility remaining, was scheduled to enroll in school yesterday.
Smethurst was the ace of the staff in 2006 and 2007, when the Rainbow Wahine reached the Super Regionals.

Former UH DBs Ryan Keomaka and Myron Newberry were selected in the recent United National Gridiron League draft. Ohio took Keomaka; Texas picked Newberry. Here’s the link:

Gahr High quarterback Corey Nielsen agreed to answer questions from readers. Nielsen made a verbal commitment to play for the Warriors.

1. Although we know no player wants to redshirt, seeing as how the top three quarterback slots are already penciled in, are you OK with that probability? Or do you feel you will be given a legitimate shot at stealing one of those coveted spots?
Corey: I think Greg Alexander did a great job this season. He is the starting QB for Hawai‘i. Coach Mack wants me to come in and compete and let everything unfold on the football field. I will have a chance to show what I am capable of doing in this offense over the summer and fall. Hopefully, my familiarity with the offense and my training will allow me to crack the top 3 on the depth chart. I am not opposed to redshirting.

2. What type of offense did you run at Gahr High, and how does it compare to the current run-and-shoot at Hawai‘i?
Corey: My uncle put in Hawai‘i’s offense my freshman year of high school, with the same terminology and concepts. The only variation we used is when we went ‘no huddle’ and signaled all the plays in from the sideline. When I moved up to varsity my sophomore year, we implemented the same run-and-shoot philosophies. I have been in the run-and-shoot system my whole football life. Hawai‘i is where I always wanted to play, not only because I love the state but because I ran the run-and-shoot my whole career. There really was no other college I wanted to go. That is why when Hawai‘i offered a scholarship, it was an easy choice to make.

3, What is your 40 time?
Corey: According to my uncle, who is a Canadian Football League scout, I am between a 4.6 and a 4.7. I am strength training now, so I won’t start my speed training for a few months.

4. How tall are you?
Corey: 5’11”

5. How do you feel you did in adjusting to the speed of the game during the Hawai‘i-Mainland all-star game?
Corey: The speed of the game was much quicker than in high school. All the players on our team and the Mainland team brought a Division I feel to the game and practices. It took me a couple of practices to adjust to the speed. Once I got into the flow, it was playing football all over again. During the game, it was hard for any of the QBs to get into a rhythm because we were switching out every series. Once I settled down, I felt comfortable. That’s when we went down and scored our only points of the game.

6. Did you see the offensive struggles of 2008 as a motivation to come to UH better than you have ever been to take hold of our run-and-shoot or did you see this as more of a challenge to overcome as you have seen players struggle to work together as a unit to make the offense successful?
Corey: I knew it would be a great opportunity for me to come in and help the Hawai‘i program. The run-and-shoot offense is based on the QB’s understanding of the offense and his ability to get the ball off on time. That is definitely my strength. I feel very comfortable with the Hawai‘i run-and-shoot offense.

7. What are your life’s ambitions and goals?
Corey: I don’t really have a career goal in mind. I just want to come to Hawai‘i with an open mind and meet as many people as I can. I am sure I will find a career path once I get there. I have been fortunate enough to meet a lot of sports and entertainment celebrities growing up. My uncle has taken me with him and allowed me to share in that experience. He always tells me it’s not who you know, it’s whom you know. I plan on taking full advantage of my time in Hawai‘i.

I agree with your comment in #338 (of previous post) about Homey being a strong show at the T-gates. He really shined at the grill and with his marinating skills. Even though his knife got taken away by Ralph who did a terrific job with it.

    Good morning peeps,

Just my 2 cents about J. Williams. Knowing how admission questions get handled by UHM, he probably will not be admitted. Its just a feeling that I have. I mean, take a look at Lacount. He was supposed to be at UHM LAST FALL, but he might not even make it here from this spring.

The coaches and their aides NEED TO double and triple check the grades/classes that these recruits have taken. I sure hope that there is not a rift between the admissions dept. and the athletic dept. that is causing this mess…….year…..after……year…..after……you get the point. Who knows though, its probably just a funding issue (Staff) and we just don’t have the sheer number of people that admissions can get these students in on-time as compared to say….like USC, TEX-A$$, etc.

I guess I also missed you being man-handled with the beer. So who brought the funnel?

  39. warriorfanny January 13, 2009 10:12 am

Corey definitely has his head screwed on with a positive and confident attitutude.

But, our O under Ron Lee is not the same as the warrior O he alludes too. In particular are the receiver options and patterns which, IMO, are too complex and take too long to break, resulting in read and progression problems with our QB. Not to mention the extra time in the pocket which added to a NCAA D1A record total in sacks (59).
Reduce the options and incorporate routes based on coverage and attack.

Dunno about the three QB frosh coming in but I do like Graves from SAC of the three.
Make no mistake, given the MAC OFF template, our warrior QBs of the future must be mobile with abilities to scramble and buy time to sort out their route progressions….Cayman doesnt possesses these abilities, at least on film or on paper or seemingly, in terms of athleticism…
Corey’s 40 time is adequate (4.6-4.7 is faster than Colt or Alexander) but pocket quickness and instincts are bigger factors…we shall see if any cream rises to the top.

  40. (Jesse) James January 13, 2009 10:13 am

Gee…too bad we boosters cannot share goodies with Corey and crew.

Oh and one other thing. Homes, I believe the Nielson rating is about 99% sure that this QB is a winnah!

  43. warriorfanny January 13, 2009 10:27 am

too bad about Justine–wahine need an ace to compete seriousily this season….especially in a transition phase with incoming frosh players. Softball is one of the solid programs at UHM, Im sure Coach and wahine will find ways to win and dazzle.

Welcome, Corey, to the Warrior family.

Good answers, he seems to have his head in the right place. He will definately compete and be a factor. Interesting how this will all shake out.

With all this talent at QB in camp this year, if we can’t find the right one from the start of fall camp, then there is a problem.

  55. d1島 January 13, 2009 10:46 am

    homey,

Nielsen’s uncle, Jon Nielsen, is the quarterbacks and receivers coach for Gahr and a former NFL, CFL, Arena League and XFL player who knows Hawaii Coach June Jones

  56. homey ℞ January 13, 2009 10:47 am

DPK – my neighbor’s kids call me uncle…not a blood relative to them.

  57. Jason January 13, 2009 10:48 am

warriorfanny: The problem with going to the June Jones R&S, where there were fewer options and more coverage-specific plays, I think, is the fact that Rolo is on the field, and not Ron. According to Ron, Rolo hasn’t mastered viewing the entire field (both offense and defense) from the sideline yet. Jones was a master at that, and could make adjustments on the fly. But with Rolo on the field, IDK … Ron could make those adjustments in his playcalling, but so much of that philosophy deals with little things (e.g., eye faking the safety, speed cuts, depth adjustments). With the “new” play clock, I don’t know if those messages get communicated quickly enough during the middle of drives. As Rolo grows as a coach (and I have no doubt he will), then maybe that may become an option in the future.

  58. d1島 January 13, 2009 10:49 am

  69. Jason January 13, 2009 11:15 am

I’ve always been partial to the flex motion, actually. But it is best run against man, and teams are zoning us all the time. When run correctly, however, it can be a thing of beauty.

Try sneaking down to the baseline seats some time, I swear you have a better angle than the sideline to see the plays develop. A lot of complaints from fans stem from not seeing the floor properly. Sideline views (including TV broadcasts) don’t do the offense justice.

  70. Kazz January 13, 2009 11:16 am

    Jason,

A lot of other schools have their OC as their QB coach also. You think having BOTH Rolo and Ron Lee in the booth would help???

On one hand having the OC up in the booth and the position coach (QBs) on the sideline is a good thing on paper as the QB can always have their position coach right next to them to consult with them face to face on certain things, BUT again some schools that have the OC doubling as the QB coach do not have that “flexibility” so it’s not like it’s unheard of.

    Just a thought.

Jason – You just said it, better when run against man-to-man d. So where are the adjustments when it is run against a zone? Or maybe it just has to do with the team personnel. Shooters? Someone who can break down a zone? Penetrators? Playmaker? Movement without the ball? From what I also see is that anyone can pass a basketball but not anyone can be a passer.

  75. roysan16 January 13, 2009 11:30 am

But, it certainly appears that “he” was not doing Coach Nash any favors by the very late selection that carried over into the recruiting wars. Wishing Coach Nash a very successful recruiting season this year! Just like Coach Mack!!!!!

    Kazz:

I second the notion that Coach Charity would make a good HC for Hawaii. She may have no aspirations to be a HC, but she sure, IMHO, knows how to get the players motivated and play hard.

She did some very good things the 5 games she was acting HC. You could see the players respond to her during the game – great emotion, mutual respect, etc. Never witnessed this with Bolla.

Too bad UNLV did not take him back, but perhaps they already knew what kind of coach he was.

I wonder who’ll play DPK in the movie version?

  97. Kazz January 13, 2009 12:18 pm

    A-House,

When you have players that want to play and win for you, then most of your job as a motivator in the HC position is pretty much done.

I think this was the case when Charity took over while Bolla had to take care of medical issues.

As a person that doesn’t know much about the Xs and Os of basketball, there is just no indication that the current or recent past Wahine seem to be playing to win “for Bolla”.

As with last season, the Wahine could have EASILY had a winning record, but alas it didn’t happen. Too many blown leads in games they should have won.

I don’t know if it’s Bolla’s style to look like he’d rather be shooting cans with a BB gun in his backyard than be at the Wahine games, but again it just seems like it and that is reflecting on how his teams have performed over the past few seasons. I don’t wanna hear that “it’s because it’s Vince Goo’s girls” crap.

  98. al™ January 13, 2009 12:18 pm

    el guapo

nash has had 2 yrs to recruit. given that first year he had little time to recruit although many jc guys were still available. let’s look at the numbers:

    2007 5 frontcourt players
    1 pointguard

    2008 4 frontcourt players
    1 er, shooting guard

going in to the 2007 recruiting season, our glaring weakness was/has been point guard. knowing who was graduating, we knew what the weaknesses would be in the years to follow, point guard and shooting guard. in spite of the transition in 2007, jackson wheeler was still on payroll as the chief recruiting coordinator. you could hang this on him.

2008, why didn’t we bring in 3-4 point guards/shooters? hang this one on nash.

i joke that because he was a frontcourt player and his top asst was one also, that, they become enamored with the big guys and forget who will get them the ball or take the outside shot (w/consistency).

i agree that the flex is great but you need guys who can pop from outside to make that one work. we should employ a short game with 10 footers and cuts to the basket.

  99. al™ January 13, 2009 12:19 pm

somebody told me that UA was for Un Acceptable….just checking, and no, it wasn’t the NB guys

Yesterday I had an off-topic post about their shoes.

Long story short, I have two pairs of UA shoes. One is the Prototype “EVADE” and I just bought the Prototype “POWER”.

The Evade (ers) are supposed to be for lateral training (heavy side to side movement), but they worked out fine for me for gym use.

I bought the Prototype “Power” as they were on sale at Sports Authority and my Evade shoes were “used” up as I also wore them to all the home games and for casual use. I used them more than I thought I would and they’re still ok, but just more “worn” down.

So anyway I bought the “Power” shoes. They’re high-cut shoes so, not true “running” shoes, but that’s just being generous. They hurt like hell when you try to run. After 10-15 minutes on a treadmill I wanted to die. More research reveals AGAIN that those shoes are for “VERTICAL” training, for the “Ultimate Power Player”… whatever that means… If I ever find myself having to jump out of a three story building with these shoes, at least I know the soles of my feet will be safe…

Overall UA has a LOOOONG way to go if they want to really get into the shoe “department”. Everything else from Under Armour is pretty dang good though!

    Homey,

#133, not a reality, i wish more hs counselors were up to speed with NCAA ever changing requirements for student athletes. many parents are uninformed, misguided, or too busy to discover all of the intricacies involved with college recruiting.

an interesting development in collegiate an high school athletics is just beginning to break on the horizon for hawaii. a company called gamefilmsolutions contacted me from the mainland, and they have an unreal product that they are developing.

imagine a hs athlete making his own highlight film…..for FREE, and he can distribute via the internet to all coaches, for FREE! sadly enough, i am too busy to venture into this project, but it will redevelop the landscape for all athletes. college coaches can monitor game films with 48 hours of the actual game…..great stuff!

Guys like Donny Mateaki, Brandon Ala, Abu Maafala, Tyson Alualu, Randy Faletoi, Jon Mapu just to name a few. every time i saw him, albeit, on tv, he seems to have a nose for the ball, passion, and improved each week. although, it is his wish to play safety i could see his true potential as a lb’er like tinoisamoa only bigger and a bit faster.

    Al and A-House,

Don’t be confused with somone’s “prediction” of Tepa going to PAC 10 Land. The prediction on this person’s behalf is probably more of a “wish” that Tepa would go to UCLA or b-Oregon (as a friend and Oregon alum calls it… ).

If Tepa signs with UH, we probably won’t hear much from this person for a while, but just because I said this this person will probably post in spite of it.

    Honestly,

As “superficial” as it sounds, UA’s deal with UH Football drives my obsession with UA gear. I have owned UA shirts and shorts before the UA deal with UH was announced, but since then it has all been UA gear for me.

Nike and others have been in the shoe business for a while and it should be expected that they have the edge over UA who just started making shoes.

I should wait longer to get another pair of UA shoes as my BlackBerry Storm awaits me. 🙂

    Pride,

if memory serves me right, and most of the time it is wrong, Mapu was at the Redskins when Colt was there. however, he had either a groin pull or a hamstring pull, that negated any effort he could put forth and they let him go.

our mutual friend Dennis Ishii had a replacement for Mapu at Tennessee, but only a preferred walk on opportunity was given at that time. now i hear their interest has ‘peaked’ a little and are watching further developments of that replacement. time will tell…..

sorry about the double posting, been a little quick off the trigger lately, but she still loves me yeah, yeah, yeah, she loves me yeah, yeah, yeah….

what is it with these retro songs booming in the empty caverns in my head…….

maybe Hasiak will make a U turn and head to Manoa, they could really USE HIM for next season……REALLY THEY COULD.

Kazz – did you read the reviews on the Blackberry? Wait to you have kids and they get into name brands! “Coach” is a killer!

I have read reviews on the BlackBerry Storm as well as my own research with playing with the phone and testing it out to get a feel for it.

I have been with Verizon ever since I have had a cell and I have had no problems with them at all. Plus my upgrade gives me pretty much 150.00 off the two-year contract price. I have never had a PDA phone before and I would use the internet, email, media, etc… (sans VZ Navigator). All in all, my current plan plus the unlimited internet and e-mail usage would only cost me 69.99 which is lower than my brother’s iPhone bill.

I don’t demand much from a phone, but the Storm will do me just fine.

  212. Ralph January 13, 2009 4:31 pm

What’s up #138 I didn’t google Tex Winter….he was a coach at K State before I attended school there, and he was still coaching when I graduated…I read later he was a HC in NBA coaching in Texas…lost track. while in school in chicago I read he was then an assistant for the Bulls and the article cited his triple post offense being used…

  216. Jason January 13, 2009 4:39 pm

With the hiring of Vantz Singletary and Al Harris in San Francisco, I wonder if more coaches with Hawai‘i ties will be picked up by Mike Singletary? 49ers.com reports that Rip Scherer interviewed for the QB coach position. QB coach of the Browns for the past four years (working under OC candidate Rob Chudzinski for the last two), he was the RB coach for UH in 1977-1978.

    Sorry UH

    Weber State,
    bulla,

you gotta check out Daniel Iopa, Keaau HS 5’11” 230 lb DE/MLB/FB
kinda like the beast if you ask me. he’s got the it factor. UH get plenny already, but he is a player, you watch and see. so i hate to say it, but if you cannot play at UH, then go play wit da polyz. 😀

  274. whitey January 13, 2009 9:08 pm

al, funny thing about pride mentioning about ballet lessons. i said the same thing because imho the o line footwork sucks. las vegas said the same thing about their footwork, it sucks.

  275. kailua808 January 13, 2009 9:14 pm

Now that James Lofton got fired from the Raiders what’s the chance of him coming to UH. His son is here so it’s not inconceivable. That would be a big time name for recruiting receivers for the run and shoot.

  276. FloridaTed January 13, 2009 9:14 pm

Now I’m really anxious for spring ball to start and to see who is really on board once all the dust has setlled.

I’m also very anxious to see how this new season will be tackled by coaches and players alike.

Will there be a new fervor and new determination and focus? Will the confusion and experimenting have gone by the way side? Will there be full concentration and drive to be a much improved team? One band of brothers again?

So many questions, stay tuned, it will be very exciting.

  277. SteveM January 13, 2009 9:16 pm

whitey — where did you have lunch today?

  278. whitey January 13, 2009 9:18 pm

you remember the show, “the replacements” with keanu reeves at qb. check out how the enitre team can dance because their footwork is very good. that big buggah, ace, looks like las vegas, but he has excellent footwork. maybe the team should have the uh dancers come to practice, put on loud music, and show the team how to use their feet, legs, body, arms, and head.

  279. bighilofan2 January 13, 2009 9:19 pm

    ST,

Great news about the walk-on punter! That was a need for the Warriors, and with the shortage of scholarships (due to excellent recruiting), it is great that the punter is walking on!

  288. Garret January 13, 2009 9:39 pm

We’ve talked about how we’d like for UH to schedule Navy and Army, especially with the Hawaii ties. I didn’t see anyone mention the news from JD’s chat that Mac doesn’t want UH to play Navy because of the cut blocks that they use, and Mac may not want UH to schedule Army if they use cut blocks too. JD points out that the Navy game on the schedule was done before Mac was the head coach. I guess this explains why SMU signed a home-and-home deal with Navy a few months ago and UH didn’t schedule future games with Navy when they were filling out their 2010-2011 schedules.

In general, I’m all for playing military academies, especially here in Hawaii. However, there’s one exception that Coach Mack has asked me to consider — and that is, if they run an offense that relies on the “chop block”. This type of block essentially means the offensive lineman is trying to “cut” or block the defensive lineman below the waist. Oftentimes because this type of block may occur 60-80 times in one game, the opponent (playing against the team that “chop-blocks”) will sustain knee or lower leg injuries especially on the defensive line. Right now, Navy plays this type of offense, but it remains to be seen what type of offense Rich will institute at Army. Of course, we will consider playing Army, and it will even be an easier decision if they run an offense that doesn’t “chop block”. (The Navy contract for 2009 was signed prior to Coach Mack being the head coach and we’re not stating outright we wouldn’t play Navy again, just that we’re likely going to wait and see what type of injuries occur in next year’s game before making any decisions.)

The QB at NMSU that was supposed to start for them next season has left NMSU and will walk on to SMU. That means that NMSU will be looking out for QBs and they’ll have to try to steal another teams committed QB…I don’t think they will be able to sway UH’s commits. But since UH has 3 QB commits, a higher-than-normal number, I wouldn’t be surprised if NMSU gives them a call after the dead period is over.

New Mexico State quarterback J.J. McDermott is transferring to SMU and receiver LaVorick Williams will leave for Texas Tech, new coach DeWayne Walker said Tuesday.

McDermott, the Aggies’ backup the past two seasons behind Chase Holbrook, played in four games last fall and started once as a freshman in 2007. With Holbrook graduating, McDermott had been the expected starter for next season until former coach Hal Mumme was fired in December.

  290. Garret January 13, 2009 9:47 pm

The coaches want changes made to the BCS, and I think pretty much everyone thinks that the BCS system needs changes. Trouble is, the change they want is eliminate their votes from being made public. With all the biased voting going on already, taking away the revealing of their votes could really make things messy…

The coaches poll has been the backbone of BCS legitimacy since the AFCA partnered with the BCS in 1998 to recognize the winner of the BCS title game as its national champion.

The tweaking could come in the form of coaches once again hiding their ballots, according to AFCA executive director Grant Teaff. In recent years, the 61 voting coaches have been making their final ballots public after the regular season. Teaff said he has been receiving input that a closed vote would be more “accurate.”

The Dallas and Forth Worth area has a *lot* of people (far more than Hawaii), but times are hard so their main newspapers will now split coverage of many major sports teams in the area. I wonder if the two Honolulu papers would ever have to resort to this…they wouldn’t do it for UH football I would guess (just like the DFW papers aren’t splitting their Dallas Cowboy coverage), but if times got harder they might have to cover the other sports jointly.

DallasBasketball.com broke the story back on July 28: The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, venerable institutions, community backbones and long-time rivals, would be combining forces and blowing off so-called “important’’ sports beats.

Well, now – almost six months later – the local papers are reporting reports on themselves. And an example of how this will work is that newspaper coverage of your Dallas Mavericks will be sliced in half.

The Morning News reveals (well, not reveals, inasmuch as we already revealed it) that the Dallas paper will now cover the Mavs and the Stars and ship its stories to the Fort Worth paper. Meanwhile, the Star-Telegram will cover the Rangers and NASCAR and ship its stuff to the Dallas paper.

  293. Garret January 13, 2009 9:56 pm

This Florida State player is doing something I can’t ever remember being done before…he’s going to delay his entry into the NFL draft because he’ll be studying at Oxford. All-American football player who got his pre-med degree in 2.5 years…amazing!

The former Florida State safety Myron Rolle said in a text message Monday that he would be heading to Oxford, England, for his Rhodes scholarship instead of entering the 2009 N.F.L. draft. Rolle started for most of three seasons at Florida State and was considered a strong pro prospect.

Instead he will head to England for a one-year master’s degree in medical anthropology. He said he would enter the 2010 draft. In November, Rolle became the most prominent student-athlete since Bill Bradley in 1965 to win the Rhodes, which is considered the world’s most prestigious postgraduate academic award.

Rolle, who hails from Galloway, N.J., arrived at Florida State as the country’s No. 1 prospect and graduated with a pre-med degree in two and a half years. When his N.F.L. career ends Rolle plans on attending medical school with the hopes of opening up a clinic for the needy in the Bahamas.

Rolle said he was told he was projected to go in the top 49 picks in the draft, with the potential to go higher if he ran a strong 40 time in the pre-draft combine.

  294. Garret January 13, 2009 9:57 pm

    Commentary about Rolle.

After graduating in two-and-a-half years with a pre-med degree; spending his summers studying overseas, working with stem and cancer cells as well as obesity awareness in Florida’s Seminole tribe; being named All-ACC; and, right, earning the world’s most prestigious academic scholarship (you may have heard about that), the New York Times reports Monday night that Rolle is foregoing his final year of eligibility and delaying a shot at at the NFL to earn a one-year master’s degree in medical anthropology in Oxford, England, oldest university in the English-speaking world and alma mater of Hugh Grant, among others. Rolle will then enter his name in the 2010 NFL draft, resume his football career, attend medical school, open a clinic in the Bahamas, purchase the island and sire a utopia of freakishly talented, self-actualized Olympian scholars between mediations with world leaders on ritual pilgrimage for Rollean enlightenment.

Looks like Miami might go after free agents who play Samson’s and Davone’s positions.

Receiver: Though Miami wants to add another playmaker, the market drops off after Antonio Bryant (Tampa might use its franchise tag on him) and Cincinnati’s T.J. Houshmandzadeh, 31. Others include New England’s Jabar Gaffney, the Giants’ Amani Toomer, Tampa’s Michael Clayton, the Saints’ Devery Henderson, Detroit’s Shaun McDonald, Pittsburgh’s Nate Washington and the 49ers’ Bryant Johnson

Offensive line: There’s speculation Miami might pursue well-regarded Baltimore center Jason Brown, 25, if he hits the market — at 320, he’s 20 to 25 pounds heavier than Samson Satele. Buffalo’s Duke Preston (326 pounds) would be a lesser option. Minnesota’s Matt Birk, 32, is likely too old for Miami’s preference.

I actually only look at 1 website (Wired’s Danger Room blog) for the free play links. The rest of the links come from various newsletters that I have e-mailed to me for work or sports sites that I check via Google reader. Most of the information on those e-mail newsletters relates to work (wireless industry or defense industry), but they always have some random links at the bottom. Also, Gmail gives a random link whenever I check my e-mail, and some of those get added to the link collection.

    McKay visits Hawaii

    Tuesday, January 13, 2009 | Print Entry

    Posted by Greg Biggins

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) defensive back Stanjarivus McKay took his second official visit of the year last weekend to Hawaii. The talented safety had previously visited Colorado.

McKay is one of the safeties in the West with the ability to play the run or pass equally well. He has excellent cover skills for a safety and saw action at corner a few times this season including the state championship game against Grant (Sacramento, Calif.).

“They hit some big plays on us early in the game so I got moved to corner,” McKay said. “They only threw one pass to my side of the field and that was incomplete. Most of the schools recruiting me like me for safety but a few have said they think I can play corner as well and that’s fine with me.”

McKay said he had a very good visit to Hawaii although the Warriors still have some ground to make up over his two favorites.

“Hawaii is a great place and I had a lot of fun,” McKay said. “The coaches were great and I loved the people there. Everyone was so friendly and it’s a beautiful place.

“I liked the campus a lot and I also liked the strength and conditioning coach there. That’s a pretty long flight to Hawaii and I’m still leaning to UCLA and Colorado right now but I’m definitely considering Hawaii as well.”

McKay will visit UCLA this coming weekend and his final visit will be to Washington (Jan. 23). The safety calls UCLA his ‘dream school’ but has some questions he hopes to clear up while he’s on campus.

“The one thing I’m not sure about with UCLA is they offered me as a grey shirt and I’m not sure why,” McKay said. “When they first offered me, I thought it was a normal offer but they explained to my dad it was a grey shirt meaning I wouldn’t have a chance to come in and compete for playing time my first year there.

“At Colorado, they graduate a lot of their defensive backs and same with Hawaii. Both schools said that I would have a chance to come in and play early but with UCLA, I just need to figure out this grey shirt thing because I don’t fully understand it. I like UCLA a lot, it’s my dream school but if I’m not comfortable with the grey shirt offer,*I’ll probably just end going to Colorado*”

The last sentence pretty much tells it all.

    DPK,
Too cold in the icebox. Gotta get reacclaimated to the cold after being warm for so long.

    LizK,
Colt was just talking about how his year was and the relationships with the other QB’s were and stuff like that.

Excuse me. Americans are benevolently ignorant about Canada, while Canadians are malevolently well informed about the United States.
I am from Togo and also now am reading in English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: “Daily news on airlines, discount airfare sales, helping you find cheapest airline tickets for international and domestic flights.”

    With love :), Phyllis.

Sorry. Anyone who has gumption knows what it is, and anyone who hasn’t can never know what it is. So there is no need of defining it.
I am from Afghanistan and also now am reading in English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: “Reservation of airline tickets from and to all destinations in europe and worldwide.”

Thanks for the help :P, Bonaventure.
