21st sweep: No. 2 Hawaii 3, CUI 0; belated congrats to Martin-Napoleon Pairs of Week

Junior opposite Rado Parapunov put down 15 kills and No. 1 Hawaii continued its undefeated season with a 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 victory over Concordia-Irvine in a nonconference men’s volleyball match today in Concordia, Calif.
Senior hitter Stijn van Tilburg added 12 kills with just one error for the Rainbow Warriors (21-0), who hit .449 on the night, just off their nation’s best .481. Hawaii extended its program-best winning streak to 21 as well as its NCAA record for consecutive sets-won to 63.
The Warriors out-blocked the Eagles (12-16) 11.5-1 with junior middle Patrick Gasman in on eight — including the match-ending solo stuff — and Parapunov six. Hawaii also won the dig battle 32-21 with senior hitter Brett Rosemeier — in his second start of the season — finishing with a match-high eight and sophomore libero Gage Worsley seven.
Jordan Hoppe led CUI with 11 kills.
The Warriors finish out their six-matches-in-10-day road trip with two Big West matches at UC San Diego (7-13, 0-4) on Friday and Saturday. Hawaii’s final two regular-season home matches are April 5 and 6 against No. 3 UC Santa Barbara (15-5, 2-2).

My bad when not posting Martin-Napoleon getting BWC pairs of week.
Wrote it for today’s paper, didn’t make it here.
Junior All-American Morgan Martin and Pani Napoleon were named the Big West Pairs Team of the Week after going 5-0 during UH’s five-match road swing in Arizona. It is the fourth time in four weeks of competition that a UH pair has earned the honor.

The pair started the week by capturing the clinching point in UH’s 3-2 win at No. 17 Grand Canyon. The duo then went 4-0 in the Arizona State Invitational with two wins over the host Sun Devils as will as victories over pairs from No. 2 USC and No. 5 Pepperdine. All five wins came in straight sets.

Since being paired together for the first time at the No. 3 flight on March 16, the duo has gone 10-0 and haven’t dropped a set.

Up next for the Rainbow Wahine is the Big West Challenge, Saturday-Sunday in Pismo Beach, Calif.

Great crowd on the hand to support the Warriors tonight! Nearly an even split between CUI supporters and UH fans.

Concordia-Irvine just beat BYU in five…

The Concordia-Irvine/BYU 5th set was a battle. The final point was a hitting error by BYU, but it took the officials about 5-10 minutes trying to decide who won the point. Good for Concordia-Irvine. BYU this year is having a hard time winning when they’re not at home.
BTW, the two matches for today and tomorrow’s Hawaii vs. SDSU matches which were listed on ESPN 3 a couple weeks ago, is no longer on the schedule. If you want to watch the stream, you’ll have to watch the video feed via the SDSU website. I don’t think they have replay for the match. I tried looking for video replays for this years matches but couldn’t find any. They had for previous years though. You may have to watch these matches live.

  9. Hi5Ho March 29, 2019 3:05 pm

Sorry, meant Hawaii vs. Tritons of UCSD not SDSU. In any case, it’ll be broadcast on the Tritons TV webcast and not ESPN 3.
