Parapunov wins second national POW

Hawaii opposite hitter Rado Parapunov has been named player of the week four times in the last five weeks in the Big West. Photo by Steven Erler/Special to the Star-Advertiser.

Congrats to Rado Parapunov, the AVCA national player of the week. It’s the first time a Warrior has won it multiple times in a season since Costas Theocharidis in 2001.

From the AVCA:

Parapunov had another dominant week in helping lead the Rainbow Warriors to a pair of sweeps over the Matadors…Smashed 12 then 17 terminations to lead the team in kills in both matches…Recorded an astounding .733 then .520 hitting percentage clips to continue his national lead in hitting percentage (.533)…Accumulated just five errors in 40 attempts…Defensively, he contributed a combined eight digs and four blocks…Hawaii still holds the nation’s longest set winning streak with 51, while still undefeated in matches with a 17-0 overall record.

This is the 23rd time the program has picked up Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honors, and the second for Parapunov after he took home the award on March 5th this season.

Rado’s on fire! And props to the rest of the team for creating the opportunities for Parapunov to get his kills.

Rado better not tell his killjoy father this time, just keep it to himself. Both of his parents are so hard on him! I bet he’d trade those two national player of the week awards in a snap for a much coveted national championship, an almost impossible dream at the Blue Pyramid this year. If UH makes it to the Final Four, I wonder if his parents will attend in person. They should. Anyway, congrats to him for his two great achievements. He had worked very hard for this.

    2. thanks. they weren’t ready to announce to the public before I left for the mainland.
    5. when I saw Parapunov yesterday morning and congratulations he said it was nice but it’s all about the team.
    5. i’m not sure why you think his father is a killjjoy. It’s a long and expensive flight from Europe. If they didn’t make it doesn’t mean they didn’t want to.
