Gasman DPOW, UH stays No. 2; SandBows are No. 5, add Sato

Congrats to Patrick Gasman, the Big West’s Defensive POW today. (BWC has digs, not blocks in their release.)

From the BWC: The 6-foot-10 middle blocker averaged an incredible 3.17 blocks per set as the Rainbow Warriors improved to 8-0 on the season, matching their best start to a season under head coach Charlie Wade.

Gasman played in six out a possible nine sets, and racked up 19 blocks (one solo). He equalled his career-high of eight blocks in a sweep of Saint Francis.

Gasman totalled five blocks (1 solo, 4 assisted) in the trip’s opener against Queens. In the rematch two days later, he notched six more blocks in just one set.

On offense, he was impressive too with five kills in all three contests and a .571 hitting percentage (15-3-21).

POW to the Beach’s TJ DeFalco, FPOW to Brandon Hicks of UCSB.

UH nominated Rado Parapunov for POW, Jakob Thelle for FOW.

+++++
The Warriors remain at No. 2 for fourth straight week behind unanimous No. 1 Long Beach State. No new teams in the polls, just a reshuffle at 7-8 (Loyola trades spots with BYU) and 11-12 (CSUN trades with Ball State).

+++++
The Longhorns have announced they are coming for an indoor spring match in March. It falls during Hawaii’s spring break as well.

UH is waiting on a signed contract so they are not ready to make it official. Have seen two dates. Texas says Friday, March 22. Other date I heard was Thursday, March 21.

+++++
The Sandbows are No. 5 in the AVCA preseason poll announced Monday.

The SandBows will be adding former Pepperdine setter Blossom Sato to the roster for 2020. Thanks to uncle Gary for the tip. She’s made it official. She’s walking on and pursuing a master’s degree starting next year. Will have one year of eligibility.

She joins cousin Jolie Rasmussen at UH in fall.

    Hi Cindy. Is there a signing period for JC players? I’m assuming there are still looking for a setter.

    Exciting times. I don’t know IF you consider 1.5 feet of snow minor. WA state- entire- is blanketed in snow. The downtown core is hilly dangerous, though, correct.

    Iosia, Skyler, Jolie, Krug (sub Okino, DS), Kyra (sub 6’5″ Canadian), McKenna Ross (sub Kristin, OH2).

    All a good gage; it’s spring.

    Tiyana Hallums, whom I really like, is a Human Physiology major. It would seem to me that she could return to UH to get certified in someway to be a Hawaiian physical therapist.
