Hawaii down 15-13 in set 1. Was down by 4 earlier in the set and they came back to tie it at 13, but service errors are killing them right now. Already have 4, and it seems to come every time we’re either tied or down just one. Good action so far though

Sheesh they sure made that way too interesting. I honestly did not like their chances for the rest of the match if they lost a huge lead like that and went into the break 1-1 with Baylor that high on confidence.

Baylor should lose a point everytime he challenges a call and decides to delay time by striking a conversation. The ref seems so annoyed everytime he challenges. heck i would be too.

we already thought Hawaii wouldn’t make it to the Tournament to begin with, so the fact that they did is rewarding in itself.
Hawaii played with heart and a whole lot of fight. You can’t complain about that now can you.

#1 key moment of that match was the run Baylor made at the end of the 2nd set. Hawaii won that set but Baylor became a totally different team and they took control of the match. Hawaii made some runs here and there but could never recover. It could have been a completely different match if Hawaii terminated that 2nd set a lot quicker . We really need a terminator hitter.

2 gut wrenching 5 set losses 2 years in a row. How many teams have experienced that? My God…..Robyn and her staff must have had years taken out of their life going thru such a roller coaster of emotion.
That is why I would like her to take a more calmer attitude. She may burn herself out quickly.
Superior Baylor hitters defeated Hawaii although overall wahine performance was very impressive & competitive, and moral victory to earn a match point. Big Mahalo for wahine-2018 for very hard work!

Not like the men’s basketball team when they phoned it in against Air Force in the first round of the CIT. We should have walked out, but Vander Joaquim beat us to it.
Hawaii made the post-season.
You don’t want the bar to be so low, but I think it’s getting harder for mid-majors all across the sporting board to compete against the Power 5. But by making the NCAAs and remaining visible to potential recruits, Coach Ah Mow-Santos might get lucky and recruit that transcendent player. Maybe that transcendent player is already here.

I think we are in desperate need of a dominant OH1 type. If we can land one, I think we could be OK. Wagoner can be our OH2. She may not be the hitter we want but her passing might help us be in system more….resulting in more options for the setter to set. Westerberg looks like she can be a dominant force either at OPP or MB. Hopefully, Skyler can make another leap in her game and become more dependable.
I do wonder if Westerberg is open to playing left. LS get the bulk of the set and if she can become a decent LS, then maybe Braelyn could play OPP. Hartong went from MB to OH and so did Kim Willoughby so there is always that possibility.

I just have to say this because for as much as folks keep reiterating the Westerberg-playing-ability, it doesn’t happen in real life just because it goes round and around like a broken record.
Hope, yes, but the girl is a HIGH SCHOOL player who can hit hard against Canadians. In recent years there has been a sort of spike in Canadians playing abilities, the few and far in between in, this, the NCAA U.S., but historically Canada has never been a true world women’s power. Back in the late 80s early 90s they did okay on the world stage yet that’s been it. Now Maglio was able to start in a major international tournament; good for her, she and her team were out in 1-2-3.
Don’t count on this new Canadian to be too much more than what we’ve just had in Burns. the harder you hit, ask Granato, the faster the ball returns to your side of the floor un diggable by block.
I’m not worried about sky as the starting middle. Interested to see who’s gonna be second middle whether it’ll be Krug or a freshmen. I don’t predict Sibley or Ross being starting outside.

#53….if you don’t want to be optimistic, then it’s your right. Not sure why you need to throw cold water on people who want the girls to come in an excell.
Sure there is no sure thing but I’m sure the coaches would rather you talk up the players than to make like the recruits are just run of the mill volleyball players who are no different from your neighborhood park player.
Excitement breeds optimism. Optimism breeds hope. Hope is always a good thing to have and something to look forward too.
The wahine were just never able to shake off the hitting errors all season, it cost them lots of matches.
Hope the freshman hitters just are more efficient with their swings.
54. Ross passed well tonight, as against 2017 IL. When focused she could possibly win out the libero position.
Sibley is in a position to make or break it. She either decides to make her sr year the best ever or she relinquishes all rights for senior leadership braggings, fading as it were into the Manoa mist.
**To counter this complacency the coaching staff has to stack the OH position for as much as possible, creating competition. SKy is M1. Krug and Akana should try for position at Opp. I’d RS the one who ends up second.
It really isn’t about having a must terminator, although nice, on the left. It’s really about consistency.
Yes everyone had a good assessment of match and season.
I was looking for this to have been a super win over a very tough Big 12 Conference (Texas, Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa St. T.C.U., Texas Tech,
and Kansas St–lost twice to) to name a few. For Akiu to have a dominant match in her only season as a Wahine coming from Texas Tech. who didn’t make the tourney. Most importantly, to see how far the team have improved since losing to Kansas St who was on the bottom of the Big 12 Conference and didn’t make the tourney was huge! Comparing the disparity of talent in th Big 12 and the Big West competition , but putting a fabulous showing regardless of our low hitting pct and amount of errors was amazing! Nobody including myself thought we would be in this position let alone be in position to steal this match against the 2nd Best Big 12 Volleyball Team this year.
All I can say is, “Unreal!”
Yes, we are talking about next year and yes they are only in high school yet. Robyn and Angelica Co. has done a remarkable thing transforming this team
and we only can trust what they have in store for us. You can only trust that they know what needs to be addressed and how those areas will be filled. They have been there and done it. They have been All Americans,Olympic, and Professional Players. They have proved what they could do in two years with what they had so I only can only imagine what the Canadians, Swedes, or Americans coming in next year and future will be. We, the people of Hawaii better get ready for what’s in store!! BELIEVE!!

The core of which has been around for the last two years. It’s a double whammy when you’re lacking on different fronts. Does Angelica speak English very well?
Akiu deserves all american recognition. No question, she is among the top liberos in the country. She is a leader, always humble, and imho, has kept us in matches all season long. Ask opposing hitters how many times they thought the ball was down for sure…..
What I especially like is that the culture is changing . They earned the postseason, no one can take that away from them. The program is definitely moving in the right direction.
Also, coaches deserve credit where and when it is due, all season long they have excelled in bringing out the best in each of the players. So, why not top 20 next year? The incoming recruits bring a lot of talent, the future looks awesome. Fans should be excited.
The miss hit(s) came w Granato on the RS and Iosia on the LS. non traditional Hawaiian and Poly foods are rich in starch and excessive protein.
Hawaiian Style…that was a low blow commenting on Anjelica’s English skills. The middles were GREAT this year. She and Robyn grew a great team. Where I teach, the 7th grade teachers are always commenting about how difficult it is when their class is comprised of students from different elementary schools. Between the three new seniors and new recruits, part of making the TEAM is getting them to connect and complement their skills. You can’t look at them individually and use stats. These are people. Those stats etc. may not transfer well. No matter how great they maybe, it has to transfer well to the team. Who knows how much better we would have been had we had the first two tourneys because the team excelled in leaps and bounds from week to week. I found it exciting to watch.

I came to today’s matching knowing that this was going to be a real challenge for Hawaii. I looked at Baylor’s resume and they actually beat #2 then Wisconsin 3-1 this season when they were ranked #15. They seemed to have a consistent, effective, high pct. OH and MB throughout the season
We looked like we were in trouble. Our girls hung tough, dug deep, played hearts out to go ahead 2-0 but eventually losing 3-2 by a really good Baylor Team.
Ok, I am going a limb. If we just had one more OH that could elevate and terminate more efficiently, we could have actually won the Big West and this game.
They were much bigger and more talented overall, but we have them all they could handle. I am PROUD of them for just not rolling over, but representing Hawaii with true grit and determination.
I am sure the Big 12 teams that didn’t get into tourney but watched were surprised how competitive Hawaii was staying toe to toe with Baylor. I am so proud of the team
I thought passing/setting a little off in sets 4 & 5, And Hawaii shied away from the middle attack those two sets. Feedback please.
