Rado Parapunov worked out with some of the Warriors, using the Mikasa volleyballs the team will be using when playing in Japan. Hawaii left today for a week-long training trip.

Cal Poly has just swept UCSB. Although Robyn Ah Mow denies that fatigue the day after UH defeated Cal Poly in five exhausting sets, I’m sure that UH could have defeated UCSB if they had an extra day of rest. UCSB is a great defensive team but the Gauchos had too many errors, 31 total vs. 15 of Cal Poly. Kills and aces about the same, but Cal Poly had four more total blocks. Really it was the errors that killed UCSB.

Of course fatigue was an issue. Robyn is not going to publicly make excuses but I have zero doubt the girls were drained.

This team plays off emotion and when you extend all your energy and emotion for the game that meant so much, you bound to have nothing left the next day.

Our hope was that UCSB would struggle too but they didn’t….so we ended up with nothing in the tank.

The remedy for that kind of situation in the future is to get depth at all positions. If our “B” team can keep up with our “A” team, then Robyn could have plugged fresh players here and there and not lose a beat. Unfortunately, we don’t have many proven players at OH and we lost Casey due to injury so we were not able to really sub much players in.

    Congratulations. A great win.

How are the men’s side doing? They are on the airplane to Japan today. On the air now. Or landed. Still flying.

    5. I had not refreshed the screen when I announced the UCSB-Cal Poly score so I hadn’t seen your own update at around 5:30. I tried to avoid reading the update of the Hawaii match with CSUN so I could see the ESPN3 replay online, but when my comment got published, I couldn’t help seeing the final caption, “UH sweeps CSUN.” It’s not as much fun watching when I know the outcome of the match in advance. Cal Poly I watched first as there is no replay and as a Cal Poly alumnae, I didn’t want to miss that match with UCSB.

Enjoyed Brian Gimmillaro on the broadcast. Loved his insight on the game. Surprise we didn’t see Skyler get in the game. Actually thought she was going to start.

    9. Think Williams is better off the bench. We’ll see who they use against The Beach. I would think Castillo. She’s cleared to play

There doesn’t seem to be a women’s volleyball version of Bracketology on-line.

I wanted to see where Hawaii stands.

I didn’t think they were in the Last 4 In grouping, but I was curious to see if they were in the Last 4 Out, or Next 4 Out categories.

Bubble-wise, where do you think Hawaii stands, Ms. Luis?

  13. Brandon Yoshikawa November 3, 2018 9:30 am

Hawaii is last four IN, if they sweep remaining matches, but its still dicey. Hawaii wants their OOC opponents to do really good from gere on out and wants pepperdine to do good too to have that extra top 50 win.

    Thank you.

    12. If the RPI could get mid-40s I think they have a chance. But they also have to win out.
    13. Thanks.
