On a previous thread, I commented that winning one of two on this road trip would be huge, but winning two would be gigantic.

C’mon Wahine, let’s make this a gigantic weekend. You can do it.

    LET’S GO BOWS.

  2. Andrew October 6, 2018 1:33 pm

Never thought I’d see the day where UH was a big underdog in a conference match. They gonna have to play the matches of their lives to win this one.

  3. Bleachercoach October 6, 2018 3:47 pm

I believe that our team can beat Cal Poly
if we minimize all the errors on all facets of the match. Cal Poly beat UCLA twice earlier in preseason but UCLA is struggling also losing 3 out of 5 matches played. Oregon swept UCLA at Pauley Pavillion (UCLA) yesterday and Hawaii took one match to Oregon to 5 sets. With that said, today I am hopeful that our team playing their best match of the season could come out of there with a HUGE win. That would be so sweet!!!

  4. Bleachercoach October 6, 2018 3:48 pm

Clarify 3 of 5 Pac 12 matches. They are 2-3 in conference right now

  5. T103 October 6, 2018 4:05 pm

Is there no video stream? I know there is live stats and live radio. Anyone know?

  6. greenthumb October 6, 2018 4:07 pm

Yes, stream is up. Click on Cindy’s link above and scroll down.

  7. Astroboy October 6, 2018 4:10 pm

    No score graphics??

  8. mei mei October 6, 2018 4:17 pm

it’ll be a tall order for Na Wahine to beat Cal Poly, not to mention at home… they are ranked obviously in the top 20 in country for no reason. i have belief in the the team, but it’ll take more than that for them to win… it’ll take all their talents multiplied 10 fold. they truly need to step up their game, big time! i am hoping for the best tho!! go bows!

  9. Warriorfan October 6, 2018 4:26 pm

Hitting errors again by the wahine that is the difference , very frustrating. too many easy points being given to the mustangs.

  10. Warriorfan October 6, 2018 4:28 pm

Man this announcer is annoying. I wish they had no announcer like ucsb

  11. Big Island volleyball fan October 6, 2018 4:32 pm

    10. Doesn’t Hawaii have an announcer?

  12. greenthumb October 6, 2018 4:35 pm

The replay so nice they showed it thrice?

  13. T103 October 6, 2018 4:36 pm

Well It was closer then we expected but should have been way closer, our fault for hitting errors. Hopefully we can right the ship and settle down and play some Vball. This announcer is funny, “and this sold-out crowd of 3000 people stand to their feet”. “and the energy in this place is electrifying” lol

  14. greenthumb October 6, 2018 4:37 pm

Also it sure looked like a couple of our hits hit the CP court.

  15. Astroboy October 6, 2018 4:55 pm

I have literally never seen such bizarre reffing going on.

  16. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 4:56 pm

Cal Poly wins Set 1 25-19
Mustangs up 18-15 in Set 2
No answer for T. Van Winden 13-1-26.

  17. Ashley October 6, 2018 4:57 pm

if Hawaii loses, it’s probably due to the refs heavily favoring Cal Poly. listening it to it on the radio, it seems odd

  18. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 4:58 pm

Mustangs up 19-15 on a dump by setter DeNecochea. TO UH

  19. greenthumb October 6, 2018 4:58 pm

15 yep. And not being able to see some of the play on the fringes (camera range) doesn’t help.

  20. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:02 pm

    T. Van Winden with her 14th kill. Mustangs up 22-17
    TO Hawaii

  21. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:05 pm

Sibley hits the antenna. Cal Poly up 2-0 with a 25-18 win.

  22. Astroboy October 6, 2018 5:06 pm

What just happened with the end of Set 2? It sure looked on video like Norene’s serve tickled the tape and went over, but the terrible Cal Poly announcer stated “it wasn’t clean”?? Is he saying it hit the antenna??

  23. mei mei October 6, 2018 5:06 pm

save us sibley… oh wait a lil to late 🙁

  24. greenthumb October 6, 2018 5:07 pm

Seems like we were getting stuck in both sets in the rotation when DeNochea (sp sorry) is serving.

  25. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:15 pm

Wahine up 7-3. TO Cal Poly

  26. greenthumb October 6, 2018 5:26 pm

What gives on that go-ahead point for CP. Could that not be challenged? Or point replayed?

  27. Astroboy October 6, 2018 5:28 pm

Where did they find these officials? I’m shocked. I’ve seen at least six points at critical moments get thrown. Cal Poly was already expected to win, you don’t need to have bias on the officiating as well.

  28. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:29 pm

Hawaii up 18-16. TO Cal Poly

  29. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:36 pm

Hawaii was up 24-19, last point an ace by Granato. Two more kills by T. Van Winden it’s 24-21. TO UH

  30. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:37 pm

Not there but remember that it was very iffy reffing last year there.
    No replay.

  31. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:37 pm

    Iosia with the kill. 25-21.

  32. Sheila October 6, 2018 5:41 pm

Live stat frozen top of streaming does not show score either. Audio is dead too. Please update the score time to time.

  33. Bleachercoach October 6, 2018 5:42 pm

Every where you go in the conference, the announcers are not neutral like Hawaii. We have too much Aloha!! Class???
We don’t really use the home crowd, announcers, and refs to dog the other team….nothing new…i have gone to matches in Long Beach St., CSUN, and Poly and the fans are rowdy and the announcers are too one-sided. Lucky you live Hawaii

  34. T103 October 6, 2018 5:42 pm

Sound went out from the live video feed, been even w.o sounds, the ending of that 3rd set seem like the officials are very clear on their rulings, and then there is a pause, after this confusion body language and somehow it always goes against UH. whats the deal?

  35. Astroboy October 6, 2018 5:44 pm

Sound seems to be out on the webcast. I see Livestats doesn’t update either.

  36. mei mei October 6, 2018 5:47 pm

Tremendous to see na Wahine get a set off them!!! now go for the reverse sweep babieeee!

  37. Brandon Yoshikawa October 6, 2018 5:49 pm

Come on bows! Fight hard and dig deep! Yall got this

to those watching, is the officiating really that bad?

  38. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:53 pm

Liva ties it at 11. TO Mustangs.

  39. greenthumb October 6, 2018 5:53 pm

    37, yep.

  40. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:53 pm

Live Stats are out, as well as out on Cal Poly monitors in the gym.

  41. Brandon Yoshikawa October 6, 2018 5:54 pm

    Even the annoucer is awful!

he said “almost a botched set by maafala” like lol no.

  42. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 5:54 pm

only thing I have is radio
    nbcsportsradiohawaii.com

  43. Warriorfan October 6, 2018 5:59 pm

Goodness Granato just has too many hitting errors a senior like her needs to play better in a big match for the wahine to have a chance.

  44. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 6:00 pm

    T. Van Winden with 2 kills. it’s 20-16. TO UH

  45. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 6:05 pm

    T. Van Winden blocked twice, Wahine close to 22-21. TO Mustangs

  46. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 6:11 pm

Hawaii holds off 2 match points but not a third. Cal Poly wins 27-25

  47. Ashley October 6, 2018 6:13 pm

I knew with the way the refs were calling this match, it was impossible Hawaii would escape with a win. I’m proud of Hawaii for fighting, but once again disappointed at how the officials called this match. BUT on the bright side at least Hawaii ended one of Cal Polys long streaks.

  48. Big Island Volleyball Fan October 6, 2018 6:14 pm

I didn’t understand how Hawaii lost the last point. The announcer didn’t explain and live stats froze. Can anyone explain?

  49. Bleachercoach October 6, 2018 6:26 pm

    43. that’s ok maybe we can reload with pin hitters that hit at a higher pct in the future.
I feel your thoughts but the team gave a valiant effort.
They didn’t get swept and proud of them.
I think Cal Poly can be beaten and we an opportunity. Those opportunities get less because now we need to win every match , beat Poly at our home, maybe force a playoff between the 2. Got to have the faith, but not if we continue to make errors like we do.
Hate to blame the refs. If we are good we never like to leave the outcome in their hands anyways.

  50. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 6:28 pm

    sorry no stats available yet

  51. T103 October 6, 2018 6:30 pm

I believe They served us, we passed it really tight to the net, our setter was back row, so wen it crossed the plain on their side, and we ended up touching it, our setter was considered a back row attacker so we lost the point. I THINK thats what happened.

  52. Ashley October 6, 2018 6:33 pm

whoever was calling the match seemed pretty confused with the last call that ultimately ended the game. i was confused as well, but than again i was getting a migraine with all these bad calls. why don’t they have a challenge review system there? i find it kinda convenient for Cal Poly, because guarantee this match would possibly be somewhat different, no challenge system, no way Hawaii can get bad calls reversed. also i watch all the road matches on Big West TV, and i always hate Cal Polys streaming, always behind, no score, unnecessary playbacks. I’m am waiting for the rematch at the Stanley. But time for Hawaii to shake off the loss and prepare for LBSU & CSUN. i think a lot of errors once again, but don’t think that was their biggest problem.

  53. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 6:34 pm

    48. 51 According to UH radio guy,
Ref said Iosia was a backrow attacker, that the ball was on the plane of the net.
Just one of a number of questionable calls that went against Hawaii tonight.

  54. Cindy Luis October 6, 2018 6:34 pm

    Here’s my breaking news story
No. 13 Cal Poly took over sole possession of the Big West volleyball standings tonight, turning back Hawaii 25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 27-25 in San Luis Obispo, Calf.
A sold-out crowd of 3,032 at Mott Gym saw the Mustangs (16-1, 6-0) extend their streaks to 23 consecutive in conference play, 17 in a row at home and 15 straight this season.
The two streaks that ended were Cal Poly’s consecutive sets; the Mustangs had won 21 straight dating back to Sept. 15. Cal Poly also had won its last seven in straight sets.
Statistics were unavailable due to a computer malfunction at Cal Poly.
The loss ended the Rainbow Wahine’s five-match winning streak. Hawaii (9-6, 5-1) return home to host Long Beach State on Friday and Cal State Northridge on Saturday.
It was the 13th straight loss against a Top 25 team for the Wahine.

  55. T103 October 6, 2018 6:44 pm

@ Ashley – the refs did a number of call reversals that went against UH, it was kinda un-real.

  56. greenthumb October 6, 2018 6:54 pm

55 agree. I don’t recall any reversals of calls originally in Cal Poly’s favor going to UH.

  57. T103 October 6, 2018 6:56 pm

And they even had “re-do’s” on certain points too. I would love to hear Robyn’s take on the calling by the refs.

  58. Nomu1001 October 6, 2018 7:08 pm

What seems to work, and what does not. Lose the first two, win the third, almost the fourth. Imho, one player away from getting the offense going, but middles need to score more consistently. Liva did a good job.

  59. Nomu1001 October 6, 2018 10:53 pm

Think we win without hitting in large part because of digging.

  60. Sheila October 7, 2018 12:12 am

Against any tough opponent, Granato brings her typical freshman erratic hitting game. Of course, Granato has power but no near the level of van Winden, Nikky Taylor, etc who were given major attack load but handled with very low % ATTACK ERRORS. Match could have tilted in favor of Wahine if setting were distributed smartly to hitters producing higher % attack. Although wahines has no go-to hitter, overall team play was definitely good enough to win over Cal Poly but setting strategy was very poor and did not cover up erratic hitting of Granato by smart set distribution. But the silver lining is that Cal Poly, Irvine, Santa Babara & Hawaii are very much the same level in spite of misleading ranking system and title chase is not over yet.

  61. IgnacioSaid October 7, 2018 1:08 am

to all of you who watched last nights streaming , I am extremely disgusted as to bad/non-calls registered against UH (by the way , this also happened last year) and think there should be an investigation , done! Many calls were at crucial times and the non-calls versus Poly (lifts , mishandled balls , stepping on lines) was really bogus. RAMS and coaching staff should , at the very least , file a protest (not that it would make a difference) and I , for one , will not recognize Poly , as any kind of champion!!!!

  62. H-Man October 7, 2018 8:19 am

Stats from UH Athletics, “As a team, UH was able to rack up 63 kills to Cal Poly’s 55. But the Mustangs had the edge in hitting percentage, .257-to-.179 and in digs, 76-to-73. Cal Poly also had one more block than the ‘Bows, 10.0-to-9.0.” Disappointed to read about the many questionable officiating calls that went against the Wahine. So we get back at the Mustangs at the SSC on October 26. Go Wahine !!!

  63. Astroboy October 7, 2018 10:37 am

I agree, UH should register a protest. I doubt it will do anything, but its better than just emboldening them by doing nothing.

  64. AdmrVT October 7, 2018 1:37 pm

#62/63: Just move on. IF Poly is getting favorable calls in conference, it just means that it will come back to haunt them in spaces in post-season. Means they won’t achieve the “next level” of play for their program as “wanna be”s.

Focus on us, and re-build with RMS. AVW grads, and TVW is a senior next year. Time will tell.

  65. rabbit ears October 7, 2018 2:50 pm

    T. Van Wilden reminds me of Nikki Taylor so much. What a complete player. We blocked her some at the end, because Cal Poly went to her predictably too often. Sounds familiar?

  66. Cindy Luis October 7, 2018 5:39 pm

Don’t know if they will file zcomplaint but it was the same crew that was there last year Texted with my son The radio broadcaster who said officiating was a joke
As ah now-Santos said in my story It was a big match The conference should have sent their best
She has played at the highest level It is all about fairness
