Know it had been asked, got it confirmed from Hall

Chloe Luyties is looking at “other opportunities” Kidd is concentrating on her nursing degree so sounds like that means she has retired.

Cool for Annie it will be played at Irvine Valley

The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team will hold its first Red-Blue instraquad scrimmage match of the year on June 22 in Irvine, California. Representing the University of Hawai‘i on the scrimmage roster is former UH standout, Annie Mitchem.
The Red-Blue scrimmage will utilize the Pan American Cup 25-player preliminary roster with players switching colors throughout the match. The U.S. preliminary roster for the Pan Am Cup has three setters, four liberos, five opposites, six outside hitters and seven middles. Not all players are expected to dress for the scrimmage. The Red-Blue, scheduled for 7 p.m. PT at Irvine Valley College, will be used in the evaluation process on selecting Team USA’s 14-player roster for the Pan American Cup that takes place July 8-14 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Mitchem (Friendswood, Texas) earned all-Big West first team honors as a senior and played for the Rainbow Wahine as a middle hitter/outside hitter in 2015 and ’16. As a senior, Mitchem missed the first nine matches of the season due to an injury suffered on the first day of practice. But after she returned to action, the ‘Bows recorded an 18-2 overall record. Her addition into the lineup proved to be a key to UH capturing the2016 Big West title. She slid over from her customary middle hitter position to play on the leftside. During her two-year UH career, she posted 249 kills, 91 total blocks and averaged 2.37 kills and 0.87 blocks per set in just 38 matches played.

The Red-Blue scrimmage will be a homecoming for Mitchem as she returns to the Irvine Valley College campus where she started her collegiate career. Mitchem earned AVCA’s Two-Year College National Player of the Year Award in both 2013 and ’14 after leading the Lasers to back-to-back state championships–including a perfect 27-0 record in 2014.

Currently, Mitchem is a member of the Scandicci in Italian Serie A1. Last season, she played her first year of professional volleyball for Lardini Filotrano in the same series A1 league.

With the U.S. Women’s National Team coaching staff busy competing in the inaugural FIVB Volleyball Nations League, the U.S. Pan American Cup team has had a different set of coaches training the squad since early May. Jon Newman-Gonchar, the associate head women’s volleyball coach at University of Arkansas, will serve as the head coach for the U.S. Pan American Cup team. Alisha Glass Childress, a 2016 U.S. Olympic bronze medalist, and JJ Van Niel, who recently accepted the associate head coach position at University of Southern California, will serve as assistant coaches. Natalie Morgan, the assistant women’s volleyball coach at Loyola Marymount University, will handle the technical coordinator duties. John Xie has been selected as the team manager.
