Well, that season didn’t go as planned.

Oh, well.

Here’s what’s next:

> Recruiting: The Warriors are expected to sign at least 10 during the three-day early signing period that begins Dec. 20. There are two QBs in this class — Chevan Cordeiro of Saint Louis School and Jeremy Moussa of Eleanor Roosevelt High in Corona, Calif. Moussa is set to enroll in January.

> Coaching: The Warriors will be hiring two assistant coaches — a replacement for Chris Naeole, who resigned in October as offensive line coach, and the NCAA’s newly added 10th assistant.

> Assignments: Nick Rolovich took over the play-calling four weeks ago, enabling offensive coordinator Brian Smith to work more closely with the offensive line. Will Rolovich continue to call plays? And if he does, will UH put more of an emphasis on the run-and-shoot in the hybrid offense? The Warriors were mostly in four-wide sets against BYU.

> Returnees: Tight end Metuisela ‘Unga appears to meet the requirements to receive a medical hardship and return for a fifth year in 2018. UH is hopeful Jahlani Tavai also will be back for his senior season.

> Looking ahead: In the aftermath of the BYU game, linebacker Solomon Matautia said: “I’m going to start working out on Monday. I’m going to get ready for next season.”

    Recruit!

That’s a great attitude by Solomon. I hope they find another DC to help his cause.

Offensive/defensive linemen, tall receivers, anyone who knows how to tackle!

  5. Honu888 November 26, 2017 4:14 pm

Getting Tui Unga back for next season would be huge. Losing Tavai would be a big loss. I kinda have a hunch he will forego his senior season. Hope I’m wrong.

Jalani is a terrific player. I feel that as he develops and trains to further develop strength and flexibility, quickness and speed, Solomon’s ability to be better than Jalani is possible. Our o- and d- line players need also to develop strength, speed and technique.

    Wahine VB to the tournament

The Rainbow Wahine (20-7) will take on Illinois (21-10) in a first-round match on Friday at the University of Washington. The Huskies (24-7) are seeded No. 8 and face LIU Brooklyn (20-9).

    GO na WAHINE !!!

Every position should be recruited – as it should be done every year anyway.

Gotta love Solomon’s attitude! Need more like him. Congrats to all of the seniors!

    Gotta love these public sentiments:
“Eh, ASU’s Todd Graham is now available. What’s Marlin waiting for? Same with Mike Riley!” “Just pay off Rolovich his last 2 years of his contract ($800,000) and hire ……”

Cordeiro provides tremendous hope for the future! Man, I hope we can hold on to him and have him sign next month.

Yeah, it wasn’t the season we all hoped for but I’m still pretty bummed that Warrior football is over. Have high confidence that this ship will get righted. Need to start filling the stadium otherwise we’ll be stuck with a ridiculously small new 30k stadium that’d be obsolete in size with the first winning season we have.

    Go Warriors!

We don’t have the money for mike Riley or Todd Graham I don’t think they would be willing to come to a program that is losing and have been losing… rolo is a steal considering our situation which has a fan base which has less than 19000 each week come on man you dreaming…

  16. Darren November 26, 2017 8:37 pm

I’ll take Panoke and Quinn in a heartbeat too!

  17. kev-1 November 26, 2017 8:38 pm

I also like Solomon’s attitude. It is much better than the “that season didn’t go as planned, oh well” attitude.

A lot of the 2017 recruiting class were red shirted this past season. Looking forward to see what they bring to the table this upcoming season.

Should be interesting to see how Coach Rolo does with “his guys”

  21. oldtimer808 November 27, 2017 6:16 am

We need either a new DC or better strategy on defense because being overly aggressive just left us out to dry. Its like aikido using the aggression of their opponent to their advantage. We were constantly being moved out of place especially up the middle and defensive ends being sucked into the middle leaving their outside assignments. Defense was the most frustrating part of the season and I’m sorry but the quarterback situation next season should be opened up. And please get rid of the TEs and open up the offense. If the run and shoot is out dated than why is our current offensive strategy any better.

  22. Ipu Ma November 27, 2017 7:22 am

Can’t big fast tight ends be part of the run and shoot?
They are bigger targets and help blocking.

Rolo play calling — was it beneficial or “same-o-same-o”? IMHO, it didn’t make a hail of beans difference — maybe the play call was correct, but failure to execute?

UH TEs — under utilized in pass plays as a receiver — why? only good for blocking? if I was Unga, I’d say goodbye — scouts already know his blocking abilities.
