Game Day: BYU

It’s not just game day.

It’s BYU-Hawaii game day.

It doesn’t matter if both are three-win teams. It doesn’t matter if this is your parents’ rivalry. There’s something about a good ol’ BYU-UH game that leaves people emotional.

(It’s 1996. We had some friends who were BYU fans who had never gone to a BYU football game. I get them two tickets. Afterward, I asked Jared how he liked the game. He smiled, sort of, and said it was great except for being sprayed. Apparently they were sitting in the section where the fight broke out and security sprayed the area as a means of crowd control. Me: “So, you had fun?”)

But I digress.

And it sure would have been good advertising to find out the Chinatown store where they got the ointment to lessen BYU quarterback Jim McMahon’s aches. Or maybe not a good idea.

A few things to consider:

> BYU is starting a QB who entered training camp fifth on the depth chart.

> There are a lot of familiar surnames on the BYU roster, notably running back Austin Kafentzis of that Kafentzis family. Austin, who started his career as a quarterback at Wisconsin, redshirted at Nevada in 2015, when Nick Rolovich was the Wolf Pack’s offensive coordinator.

> Defensive end Corbin Kaufusi, at 6 feet 9, has nearly as many career blocks in football (three) as he did playing for the BYU basketball team last year (four rejections).

> The middle linebackers — BYU’s Butch Pau‘u and UH’s Jahlani Tavai — are both juniors who will be playing on Sundays in the future (even if BYU can’t play on Sundays).

> Throughout the offseason, UH players will lift weights and run and throw heavy objects and lift and run and throw some more. For some, all that training will result in being in top shape to play for the scout team. There are some who did not play a down this year, but every practice they contributed. For a guy like backup quarterback Hunter Hughes, this week’s practices were the last time he would play organized football in his life. There are many roles on a football team; Hughes filled his role enthusiastically and with all he had.

* * * * *

Let’s see, UH needs an offensive line coach … one of the best, Mike Cavanaugh, is now available … hmmm. Just sayin’.

Yah, but Coach Cav was making $450K.

I wish/pray that he would accept the 166K that we can offer.

While watching the Ohio St – Michigan halftime show, the broadcasters covered the performance of the three quarterbacks that have started for Michigan this season. I wonder why coach Rolo didn’t give Cole McDonald or another quarterback a better look this season when Dru was struggling because the result was all losses anyway. I guess hindsight is 20/20. I thought the same during the USF – UCF game. USF’s quarterback, Flowers, passed for 503 yds, but what impressed me was hit running. He rushed 20 times for 102 yds. I thought Cole’s running would give another dimension to Hawaii’s offense. Oh well, I’ll just enjoy today’s game, win or lose. Just hoping it’s a competitive game for the Warriors.

  5. Whats up November 25, 2017 10:01 am

The only difference between Brown and McDonald is that the defense knows Dru is not running with the ball and McDonald is not passing the ball on most plays. I don’t know when the Dru regressed into a pocket passer but the defenses don’t see him as a running threat.

I haven’t seen the playmaker Dru Brown since the UMASS game, scrambling for the TD and what a great last second TD toss for the win. Hopefully the Rolo, Smith and Stutz will open up the playbook and trust Dru to make plays with his legs and arm. Or this game is going to be ugly and none of us want to see another BYU stomping Hawaii. Especially on hallowed ground at Aloha Stadium.

it was a pleasure to watch McKenzie Milton play yesterday.

it harkened ( yea, so what?) me to compare him with Colt Brennan — exciting, accurate, good runner, good decisions on when/where to throw the ball — just a great performance overall

IMHO, a whole lot better than Dru Brown.

I think UH can get him $200,000 … and maybe some Jack in the Box coupons. (They didn’t give ’em all away since there was blimp trouble at halftime of the Wahine basketball game yesterday.)

  9. Stephen Tsai November 25, 2017 10:18 am

As a local boy, Hawaii football fans should all be rooting for Milton. Good guy. Good athlete.
But UH did recruit him — twice.
He chose to go with Scott Frost (and the Oregon-styled offense) and play alongside some talented Florida players.
If Milton isn’t at UH, that’s his choice. Not UH’s.
Gotta love the one you’re with — and Brown is here and Milton is not.

  10. boolakanaka November 25, 2017 10:32 am

Love the Milton kid, the guy is legit. But when we talk Hawai’I QBs, who could also tote the rock, Ralph Cherry and Michael Carter, take a backseat to no one. Ralph was legit low 4.5 with more moves than Bruno Mars, and an elite athlete, went direct to the NFL and started at safety. Carter, was a tank, with superb decision making and entirely fearless…..we had some good ones back in the day.

  11. Whats up November 25, 2017 10:32 am

If Hawaii wants Mike Cavanaugh they need to offer him a job like yesterday, he has been a coach a while and somebody will want an NFL/College football experienced coach. Hawaii needs to throw their hat in the ring early to have a chance.

But Hawaii also needs a Defensive Coordinator badly, Oregon State is changing coaching staff as well, Kevin Clune was Hawaii DC in 2014. If he is available Hawaii should see if they can get him back.

NCAA Scoring Defense has BYU at #51 or 25.1 pts allowed per game.
UH at # 107 or 34.3 pts per game.
Total Defense, BYU at #57 and 380 yds per game, UH at # 115 and 459.5 yds allowed per game.

Re: Hiring coaches. No forget to throw in living in UH’s Faculty Housing in Manoa. Whoa! What a deal!

Brett Bielema, Jim Mora, Gary Andersen, Art Briles, Mike Riley, Chip Kelly (too late as UCLA will hire him): All these coaches are available. Common, UH!! Make an offer!!

Cal OC Beau Baldwin (who wasn’t interested in the UH job when approached who he was EWU’s HC) will likely be named the new coach at OSU.

BTW, OSU’s Gary Andersen wasn’t too happy about his assistants (Clune, Kauhaahaa were on staff).

Go Warriors!! Get that “W” over BYU!

  15. Old School Dave November 25, 2017 10:59 am

This is not the same BYU team from the ones UH fans grew to hate. Many of the players back then would not be admitted to the Mormon Church school due to their Honor Code. Guys like Jim McMahon had the luxury of coaches and admin people looking the other way back in the day.

Michael Carter – One tough buggah. Played with two broken ribs. Nuff said.

  16. Stephen Tsai November 25, 2017 11:03 am

Why do people assume UH didn’t make an offer yesterday?

  17. Stephen Tsai November 25, 2017 11:08 am

It’s interesting that people want UH to spend more on recruiting and coaching. At the same time, there are people trying to figure out how to get pay-per-view games for free. It’s basic economics: You can’t cut taxes and increase or even maintain spending. Something has to give.

  18. 808WarriorFan November 25, 2017 11:08 am

With Nebraska dismissing Mike Riley, that means former UH OL Coach Mike Cavanaugh will be looking for a job … Don’t we have an opening for OL Coach … “Rolo” call Coach Cav … !!!!!

On a personal note would not mind seeing a change at DC …

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS … !!!!!

  19. Old School Dave November 25, 2017 11:23 am

That would be a major coup is Mike Cavanaugh could be lured back to Manoa. Going from earning $450,000 to $160,000, man that’s a tough one, though. Someone with Cavanaugh’s track record, I’d think that he has offers from other schools besides UH, though.

Used to enjoy his banter and bluntness to his O-linemen at practice. “Trust your technique!” as he used to preach.

Kevin Clune ? – last year he was making 487K.

I remember that he ditched us to go back to Utah Sate.

he was LB coach at USU, then was hired as UH DC.

he INSISTED on a 2 year contract.

BUTTTTTTTT – after 1 year, he ditched us to be DC at USU.

Would you trust him, and hire him at $202K ?, even on a 1 year deal ?

    UH 17 – BYU 48

  22. What? November 25, 2017 12:22 pm

In the grand view of college football, in terms of economics, UH is just above the poverty line and below the median of programs with money to spend. Something has to give is right. UH will win again. They just won’t win consistently. Mediocre seasons between seasons of winning is the norm for a lower tier mid major program.

Or, the school and state could just go for broke and constantly spend on credit until the economic bubble burst for UH.

Just enjoy the game for what it is, entertainment. With time, Rolo will win at UH. Next season will be his 3rd season. I say give him season 3 and 4. Lots of parking today. At the game already. The nice thing about starting early is finishing early.

  23. ai-eee-soos November 25, 2017 12:38 pm

Stephen Tsai: Do you think Greg McMackin would be

interested in being a DC and Mentor?

    I know he’s P.O.’d, but his 2 tormentors are gone –

Donovan fired and MRC Greenwood retired before being fired.

At his age/health, I think he still can be of great help.

  24. Chicken Grease November 25, 2017 1:09 pm

Milton NOT choosing to attend UH is a symptom of UH football’s problem, though. With Chow and now Rolo, we see a growing UH football tradition of sticking with the plan. Even if it’s not working.

This is why, maybe UH coaches should be made to work a “regular job” (you know. The kind that UH football fans do? 🙄) and see how far they get with sticking with doing the same thing even though their boss tells them to fix something.

  25. Na Alii Pride November 25, 2017 1:18 pm

I know he’s young and has a long career ahead of him, but would love to see UH try to get Kauhaahaa to be DC. Would be a real long shot, but hey, gotta try. I know we currently have a DC, but a change is in order.

  26. z November 25, 2017 1:27 pm

Hoping but not expecting a win. I just want them to give me something to look forward to next year. So far nothing.

  27. JH Balko November 25, 2017 2:29 pm

The problem with successfully recruiting a coach like Mike Cavanaugh who was making a lot more money on the open market is he will be prone to deep and abiding resentment at UH: always thinking ‘I’m worth twice this paycheck, why should I be doing….’ He will always feel better than the coaches around him because he absolutely knows he is better then them, because he was paid a lot more than them. Those feelings will bubble up at inopportune times, and undermine the team. The question, of course, is will UH get more out of his coaching than he costs the team/program?

  28. What up November 25, 2017 2:30 pm

If Hawaii can get somebody like a Kevin Clune they better hire’em. Many of those Utah State coaches do well in coaching in the MWC. And the defense needs coaching help, badly!

Retired coach Kevin Gilbride could possibly be lured to Hawaii as a OC or lets get the Lee brothers anything to help mentor Brian Smith with this anemic offense.

  51. Buffoman November 25, 2017 6:38 pm

  52. Buffoman November 25, 2017 6:46 pm

The o-line looks overmatched. Our tackles getting g whipped.

  53. clyde November 25, 2017 6:48 pm

Nice play by Brown and Barker. Unfortunately on the PAT, the wing blocker took the outside rusher and allowed in the inside guy to run unimpeded for the block. Dayum.

  56. Buffoman November 25, 2017 7:13 pm

  57. NorthShoreFan November 25, 2017 7:18 pm

CBSSN color commentator….”they lack the fundamentals in tackling….”

  58. RB November 25, 2017 7:23 pm

Are we going to see any firings after tonight? Some of the players gave up already you can tell by their body language. It’s sad when a high school game can draw a larger crowd.

  59. z November 25, 2017 7:46 pm

From what I see nothing will change if we don’t recruit better players.

  60. islandman November 25, 2017 7:46 pm

The offense had a hard time to score.

  61. H-Man November 25, 2017 7:56 pm

Buffoman, Critchlow is BYU’s 5th string quarterback. Well, Rolo stuck with the same offensive scheme and same quarterback. Guess what? He delivered the same result. Will never know if McDonald would have made a difference since he hardly played.

  62. H-Man November 25, 2017 7:59 pm

Z, it’s not the players. It’s the coaching staff. But with UH Athletics’ budget, this is the best we can get. It won’t get any better next season.

  63. Derek November 25, 2017 8:08 pm

UH, they are what we think they are. They score somewhere around 20-23 points per game. They lose. The defensive line is bad. The offensive line, once pretty good, is now bad. The difference between UH and BYU is that BYU’s OL and DL is so much superior than ours. It’s sad because we all support UH and want them to do well. But the football product on the field is not worth buying. I will watch football on the tube and thankfully there are a lot of teams I can watch and there are a lot more games that are so much more exciting. Watching McKenzie Milton with UCF yesterday against USF was one for the ages. And I might add, Quinton Flowers at USF was just as outstanding if not more than Milton. Rolo has a lot of soul searching to do and a lot of splaining to do with the coaching staff and the recruiting. Playmakers are few and far between, the kicking sucks, the QBacking leaves to be desires with few explosive and chunk plays. There is a lack of physicality and good tackling and execution. I as a fan do not expect us to be 9-4 or better. Heck, finishing 6-6 and making it to the Hawaii bowl would have made a lot of people happy. Maybe the lack of money causes people to make excuses.
I don’t buy that. First a foremost, we need a QB who can make a lot of players and surround him with some skill players to can move the chains and score. If Cheven Cordeiro or Jeremy Moussa can be that person, so be it. I don’t care if they are true freshman. If a freshman can play right away, so be it. I have seen Dru Brown play for 2 years now. His play has regressed this year. The play calling is very questionable on many occasions. Rolo? What are U going to do and what changes will you make?

  64. islandman November 25, 2017 8:17 pm

UH passed on 71.7 % of the plays but could not score much, only 13 pts.

  65. Honu888 November 25, 2017 8:27 pm

    @ 51
That’s what happens when we have a QB coach who doesn’t belong in that position. Just because he was an offensive coordinator prior at another school doesn’t mean he can teach even the basic fundamentals as a QB coach. Dru has regressed and the backups aren’t showing any signs of improvement. Coach Rolo has said this many of times. If we had a quarterback who can do a better job then he would play them. Well, we need a real QB coach who can teach them how to get better.

  66. z November 25, 2017 8:43 pm

Milton has a really good qb coach and it shows.

  67. SteveM November 25, 2017 8:44 pm

For the 2nd time in over 10 years, I left the game early…and I didn’t have use the bathroom. When I saw UH open with a single setback I feared there were no significant changes. We got the consistent result by the almost same-o same-o offense: 20 points and 2 free tacos.

Can Jack-in-the-Box up the ante and excitement by offering, say, a jumbo Jack for 4 touchdowns? That’s a real low risk offer nowadays…

I’m going to watch for coaching changes very closely in the next few weeks. Might have an impact on season ticket sales next year.

  68. BigWave96744 November 25, 2017 8:53 pm

Dru has a high passing percentage because when it’s 2nd and 25, 2-3 yard passes are available all night

  69. What? November 25, 2017 9:13 pm

I was at the game tonight. I hope the redshirt this year can make an impact next year. Also, it seemed like Dru Brown has turned from a dual threat QB wanting to be solely a pocket passer.

Aside from Tomey’s offense, there were only two successful offenses in Hawaii. The triple option under Wagner with Paul Johnson and the run and shoot under June Jones were the only offenses that really worked in Hawaii. Tomey’s teams had great defenses that were able to hold teams to low scoring games and it allowed them a chance to win the game in the 4th quarter.

As an observer from the stands, it does seem Dru Brown has regressed from last year. With that said, I also think the coaching has regressed from last year also. They have a lot of work to do before next season.

  70. H-Man November 25, 2017 9:14 pm

I’ve been to practices and scrimmages in the spring and fall. Dru was not the best quarterback. He was in the pack with the others. Yet, come fall, Rolo announced that Dru had separated himself significantly from the others. I did not see that. I am just a fan, so people can dis me. But as a fan, I can choose not to renew my season tickets.

  71. islandman November 25, 2017 9:18 pm

    67. The Defense scored 6 of the 20 pts.
UH is on the Bottom 10 Waiting List as of Nov. 21. BYU was also on it, but they beat UH in the Waiting List Bowl.
San Jose St was No. 2 on that Bottom 10, but they beat Wyoming today. Nevada was also the Wait List, but they beat UNLV.

  72. Inyoface November 25, 2017 10:21 pm

Watching Mckenzie reminds me of Colt. Hits the slots in stride, hits wideouts deep, runs when needs to and for positive yards. Can Dru do that next year?

  73. cappie the dog November 26, 2017 5:35 am

The late Chris Gaines had literally no talent around him during his freshman campaign with Frank Arnold.

Dru Brown isn’t the perfect analogue to the former Mr. Iowa Basketball, but he needs more help to be successful.

  74. cappie the dog November 26, 2017 5:47 am

On a more obscure note, I don’t think point guard Keisha Kanekoa had anybody to play with either. She was the one player with any sort of recognizable talent on that last Jim Bolla and first Dana Takahara Dias teams.

  75. cappie the dog November 26, 2017 5:49 am

I have thirteen minutes before I leave for work.

I want to see if Central Florida cracks the top ten, and more importantly, if they leap frog Penn State, who I hate with the passion of a billion exploding suns.

  76. Whats up November 26, 2017 5:51 am

Both BYU and Hawaii were decimated with injuries this season but the talent level on the depth chart was exposed for Rainbows. Diocemy couldn’t get the record until the end of the game when BYU mixed in there 2nd-3rd string defense. Recruiting is everything.

#1. Most important thing that needs to change!

    Mens Sports: Hawaii Warriors
    Women’s Sports: Rainbow Warrior Women

Many Universities have alterations to their Nicknames based on masculinity (men) and femininity (women). This is done to celebrate the differences between Male and Female athletics.

This will help attract recruits to all University of Hawaii sports both Mens and Women’s that would other wise go somewhere else local or mainland. Excellent recruits/talent can make a good coach look like a genius. Hawaii already has a geographical challenges, so why further limit the recruits/talent all Hawaii sports could get. The best coach Hawaii Football had was June Jones and he got all that talent and wins as Hawaii Warriors.

#2. Hire experienced offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator. I’m afraid that some of these coach are a little out of their league in the MWC. Last season all the teams didn’t have any tape on Rolo and his coaching staff schemes, tendencies, play calling. But now teams have tape on Rolo and his coaching staff. The “Rainbow Effect” on recruiting coupled with teams having tape on Rolo and his staff coaching led to dismal season.

I’m not calling for Rolo firing but there are nickname and coaching changes needed this off season to help turn this ship around.

  77. cappie the dog November 26, 2017 6:01 am

I like how TCU’s women’s programs are called the Lady Horned Frogs.

When Texas Christian was in the WAC, there would be this guy behind me who would gently taunt, “Let’s go, you Lady Frogs.”

  78. Old School Dave November 26, 2017 7:58 am

Since the local fans have lost interest with UH Football and the school will likely drop the sport due to the lack of financial backing and poor attendance, how about starting up a local Football Club League? You can have club teams made up of St. Louis Alumni, Punahou Alumni, Kamehameha Alumni, Kahuku Alumni, other high schools, maybe the Community Colleges, along with military base teams (Schofield, Kaneohe Marines, Hickam, etc). Put in unique rules like “no running plays allowed” or “no running back formations” to “open up the offense.” Games can be held at local high school fields for a small admission fee. I think this will appeal to local football fans way more than UH Football. Get OC-16 to televise a “Game of the Week” and sell plate lunches and Slush Puppies there. I think this will be a big draw for the community who value quality sports.

“I only going support UH Football IF they do this……… If not I’m PAU!!” – That’s the spirit!!

Signing off. I will stop posting. Why?
    1. It’s sickening, after a promising campaign in 2016 and now. At my age I don’t have a lot of time and my patience is short. I get grumpy, I complain, but I like to see a good product. UH football to be honest is not very good.
    2. Jeezy. I noticed he hasn’t posted in a long time either. I should have followed him earlier.
    3. I can do other things so I won’t be so frustrated with the play of the team.
    4. We all have to stop at some time. Time is now.
    5. I may be back posting. Maybe.

Wishing everyone a Very Happy Holidays. I will read other people’s comments as I refrain. Aloha and Mahalo Mr. Tsai for this forum. U take care.

    #78 Old School Dave,
many years ago (late 70s I think), for a few years there was a semi-pro soccer league very much as you described as a “local Football Club League”. Teams were made up ofplayers who had some school or ethnic affiliation, and there were several service teams (Army from Schofield/Ft. Shafter, Navy from Pearl Harbor, Marines from Kaneohe/Camp Smith). Matches were played mostly Saturday nights at various high school stadiums. Admission was quite modest. Food service was provided by food trucks. Attendance was pretty good because the players had a real connection to the community. The first year or two the league seemed to thrive, but after that I think the people running the league got “big head” and started paying themselves too high of a salary and raised the team fees too much so the number of teams declined which meant the community connection was broken and eventually the league folded. But the lesson is still, if you have an entertaining product, at a reasonable price, AND that vital community connection, people will turn out to see it.

    Great Morning All!

Been keeping my powder dry all season.

    Time to “fire for effect”

The last HC was effectively doing no recruiting during the last half of his last season. When Rolo and his staff walked in to the FB offices and looked at the recruiting board and saw the joke of a recruiting board they realized the magnitude of the task at hand but pressed on.

Rolo said when he was putting the staff together that he was looking for guys who (my words, not his) viewed Hawaii as “aina” and not a stepping stone.

I think he is trying to do the same with the players while at the same time applying some actual recruiting principles (roster needs, class projections, prospect likelihoods, etc.) along with some solid recruiters (aka Assistant Coaches).

It cannot be overstated how behind the curve this team was in player personnel. This is no reflection on the character or motivation of any of the players on the team but the results of the last 1-2 seasons of the previous regime speak for themselves.

In season 1, Rolo (or any new HC, for that matter) will rely on pulling out any and all stops to utilize any available resources to pull out the best result. Hawaii went to the Hawaii Bowl (barely)…JJ produced the “greatest turnaround in NCAA history”, and so on.

Season 2 is another story. As another post indicates, once the conference has a season of video it becomes near impossible to hide lack of talent with “smoke and mirrors”.

From what I see nothing will change if we don’t recruit better players.

    Very True.

    I. for one, believe that may start to come to be seen on the field next season. This coaching crew has already shown, albeit at different levels, that they have been able to build programs the right way thru finding the right players in the living rooms and kitchens of recruits. Rolo has resisted pulling the redshirts off the shelf too early this season and selfishly blown a year of their eligibility. I hope it starts to pay off come next fall.

Z, it’s not the players. It’s the coaching staff.

Really? Some others have been saying the “answer” is bring in the Lee Brothers. Ask them what happened once the rules changed that DQ’d 3 of their top players from the 2000 Prep Bowl?

Others have been all over QB1 and lamenting Rolo for “not offering” or “letting” the Mililani QB get away to UCF. As the Blog Host has stated (several times) they offered and he chose to go.
I not going 2nd guess him…he liked the HC based on his results at the school with the shining Knight with buku bux his new gig in the middle of the hotbed of all that receiver speed….just saying.

This is a long post and was written over a long while so if others have posted in the meantime, sorry.

    Das it.

Ferd Lewis’ article today says it all. One thing stands out as he calls for a coaching shake-up in the off-season.

UCSD expected to announce Monday that it has been accepted into the Big West. However, it is a long transition period to full Div I status.
    Affects basketball, volleyball and ?

thankfully, the season is over and time to lament and/or reflect

root cause: coaching staff and its ability to coach up the players; schemes called; player execution; discipline? one of the above, some of the above, all of the above?

how does a player react to an offensive/defensive call they know will not work? some will go all out to make it work – others will give a “token” effort?

ever take a close look/notice of how each player takes to pre-game warm ups? easy to spot those who are just going thru the motions!

yes, there are many areas to address NOW to make 2018 a much better season and it may all start on 12/20/2017 when early signing will occur — maybe an indication of what’s to come.

someone said – “never hire a friend or family member because it will be difficult decision to discipline or let go”

now, it will be Coach Rolo’s turn to evaluate and decide — if he does nothing, IMHO, it does not bode well for him and the 2018 football season — fanciful doings does not “trump” winning on the field to build fan support and donating $$$

I presume many of us will be closely watching his decisions

ST: did you say that Rolo has made position coach offers already when you wrote who said he didn’t”

despite this season’s awful results, we will purchase season tickets next year and attend games

First and foremost, big Mahalo to the seniors for being Warriors and repping the Aloha state! We all can wish for better results but in the end, you still put it on the line and played the game.

My hope going forward is for Coach Rolo to re-evaluate the staff. For our team to not show any improvement whatsoever, you have to start with coaching. The work starts now and needs to go 24/7. Im all UH to the core and always will be.

First, Wishing You All a Safe, Healthy and Happy Holiday Season!

IMHO…we all know the cupboard was bare when Coach Rolo took over. He did not have the “best options” for coaches also. Evidence the amount of UH coaches that went on to great D1 programs. Do we have good coaches? Did we have good coaches? IIRC, there was a lot of criticism then too. Now after the coaches go on to success at other D1 programs, we lament losing them.
That being said, I can’t get over how many broadcasters comment about the lack of discipline or technique about our O and D play. One comment from a respected and successful UH coach, opined ..”coaching is the issue” (paraphrasing).Coaching, discipline or lack of execution? ALL seems to be the issue. Based on last years performances, we were chosen to finish second in the division. That all went down hill fast after the fourth game. I’m just hoping the team did not “learn” to lose.
We clear out this season and build for next. The student athletes we have are committed and doing their best. These kids are the ones who matter.
    IMUA WARRIORS!

Out coached again by another very beatable team. Fundamentally, schematically, personnel use, on-field adjustments – embarrassingly weak this year.

If the Coordinators don’t change, Rolo’s career as a HC for ANY FBS team will be a short one.

  88. Luki November 26, 2017 12:11 pm

Offensive line, defensive line, corner, outside reciever, punter look like recruiting needs. Love Dru’s spunk but he seems to have become predictable. Even JJ changed the qb pace up with Rolo, Chang, Withy-Allen, Wheidon when he needed to. There seemed to be a gap in the middle of the defense for five games straight that was attacked often. Did we lack the personnel to do the job or we unable to coach up the existing personnel to fix it. As a fan sure there is a lot more going on behind the scenes that I know but hoping we can get it righted with recruiting, player development, and coaching experience.

    83.

Any insight into why the Big West has no interest in Cal-State Bakersfield?

I think Utah Valley or Southern Utah would be good fits, too.
