On the mend

The Warriors expect to be in improved health for Saturday’s game against Fresno State.

Key players who did not make the trip to Las Vegas are expected to return to action this week.

But offensive lineman Fred Ulu-Perry will miss the rest of the season because of a patella injury suffered against UNLV. It has been a challenging year for Ulu-Perry, who did not participate in spring practice because of health issues. He was limited to seven games, including four starts, this season.

    Get well Fred!
    Go Warriors!

Would Ulu Perry at say 285 or 290 help take some stress of his knees? He’s a big guy with tremendous potential and it would be a shame to see that go unfulfilled. Heal up, gain strength, perform in the classroom and do some damage next season.

    Get well Fred Ulu-Perry,
    You did good.
    Thank you.
    Will you go into coaching?

  4. Buffoman November 7, 2017 12:23 pm

It would be interesting to see side by side stats of our efficiency on third down defense verses our opponents in success and yards yielded. It would also be interesting to see our third down offensive efficiency in the same manner.

My guess is that we are probably on the down side. We need better defense. It may not be pretty, but if we can’t consistently stop opponents, we can’t better our chances to win. Being an old timer, I remember when folks hated to play us because they knew they would be playing against a tough tackling, hard hitting defense. Don’t hear much talk coming from opposing teams any more.

On the previous post page the comment from #15 was way out of line, totally uncalled for. I have emailed Steven Tsai…….the family of Daniel Teo Neisheim will bury him this Saturday. I’m sure you didn’t even know Daniel. He was a gentle giant, his compassion and smile will be in my heart for ever. His Hawaii Prep family loved him and his passion for coaching at his alma mater (HPA) was over the top. Please #15 apologize to Daniel’s family for your hurtful negative comments. (I am not a family member, but have known Daniel since he was in 6th grade. I am 72.

Ulu-Perry red-shirted last year — then, done for 2017 — gives him 2 more years?

seems he put on some weight around the middle — contributing to his injury?

would like to see him regain that whatever that made him the #1 high school center and guard in the nation by separate sports rating services

    D. Reardon says don’t give up on the UH football team — a win over Fresno on Saturday will be a tremendous boost to winning the last 2 games!!!

even if UH goes 6 and 6 and the Hawaii Bowl — there still needs to be some serious soul searching by Rolo on his staff — just too many mistakes in 2017.

btw, no mention of a Tsaiko tailgate at UNLV this past Saturday — was there one? — if yes, will pictures be posted for us that were not able to attend?

When I offended the board by making a statement about a former Rainbow football player, I apologized.

You make sense to me number five.

The reason why number five is angry number twelve is because the way you described the late Daniel Teo Neisheim was in terms that was a bit too colloquial.

I don’t think it was your intention to be offensive.

No worry boys we love the Warriors. Don’t give up. BTW Ulu-Perry does look a bit wide and slow. The year off and too much local food?

Rolo will call plays for next 3 games/Tsai’s column,

Head coach Nick Rolovich said he expects to call the offensive plays for the Hawaii football team’s three remaining regular-season games.

The Rainbow Warriors have been down a full-time coach since Chris Naeole resigned as offensive line coach in the week leading to the Oct. 7 road game against Nevada. Since then, offensive coordinator Brian Smith and graduate assistant John Estes have been coaching the offensive linemen.

In seven of the Warriors’ nine games, Smith called the offensive plays from the coaches’ booth.

Rolovich called the plays against Nevada and last weekend against UNLV.

you can read more, if not blue starred.
    ————————————-

me: that means Rolo is taking full responsibility –
no need mongku mongku on Stutz and Smitty.

most, if not all, recognize that playing at any D! level is tough and gets tougher as teams get better

however, calling plays and getting the players to execute is another matter — is it the coach inability to transfer his knowledge to the players or players cannot grasp the concept or both?

for example, pass play called and receiver turns the opposite direction where the QB threw the ball or is it receiver turned the right way and QB threw to the wrong side? correctable, heck yes, but position coaches must work with either or both players

no different than a LB or DB missing an assignment — why? mistake? tired? trying to do too much?

any way, see you at the game on Saturday!

Gregg Tipton, good quarterback, but you got the years mixed up

    1985-4-6-1
1986- 7-5, took Michigan deep into the 4th quarter with a chance to win, but Michigan pulled away…

  24. islandman November 8, 2017 7:51 am

Rolo said it’s easier to call plays in the run and shoot with the 10
personnel group , in the news article. In the Na Kia article , it tells how complicated the QB’s job is.
On radio last night, he said a new rule is that you can only sign 25 players for next season. And he cannot replace someone who, say , doesn’t meet academic requirements later . Cannot oversign players now.
