Game Day: UNLV

Questions, questions, questions …

> Who will be available for the Warriors? The Warriors have had health issues the past week, including a player who was initially left behind because of an illness but was a possibility to arrive yesterday afternoon.

> Will the Warriors correct the problems caused by San Diego State last week. The Warriors have made tweaks in all phases the past week. The test is today.

> Who will start at quarterback for the Rebels? Armani Rogers, who has drawn comparisons to Cam Newton from a national publication and Air Force coach Troy Calhoun, reportedly passed the concussion protocol and split practice reps with Johnny Stanton this week. Asked about blocking for two physically imposing quarterbacks — Rogers is 6-5, 225 and Stanton is 6-2, 245, and played linebacker two weeks ago — left tackle Kyle Saxelid said: “It’s pretty dope, if you ask me. That’s my California coming out. It’s fun. You’ve got a guy back there you can trust, who can make plays. If the coverages are too tight, if the the line isn’t getting something done, the quarterback is the third option in itself to make a big play. It’s good to know that you have that back there.”

    ? 10 – 9 should read “Ipu Man”

  3. Stephen Tsai November 4, 2017 8:10 am

Is Ipu Man doing the Rickey Henderson thing?

  4. clyde November 4, 2017 8:18 am

Yo, Stephen. I might be wrong but I believe the unheralded starter at center is Taaga Tuulima (not Tuulima Taaga). Hope he makes a name for himself today.

  5. What? November 4, 2017 8:20 am

    UH 7
    UNLV 35

  6. islandman November 4, 2017 8:54 am

Bows / warriors will not be only running up the gut in the first few series, i think. The last two games at least, they started with 2 TE’s listed. But today they list only 1 TE and 3 receivers.

  7. H-Man November 4, 2017 9:56 am

So the Warriors will not be running a lot if they brought only one TE?
Or they will use a fullback so no need a TE in some formations?

  8. Ipu Man November 4, 2017 10:14 am

    True or False Rickey Henderson:
Which one you referring to, Tsai?

    UH 15 – 38 UNLV

  10. islandman November 4, 2017 10:16 am

The last 3 games, UH had Kaiwi Chung as one of the 2 TE’s starting. In the CSU game, UH had no TE’s but 4 Receivers listed as starters.

  11. z November 4, 2017 11:54 am

I will be watching the oline. It is interesting how they are flipping our guards. We are also going with a freshman center. Our dline appears to be smaller with the 3-4 lineup. We struggled in the trenches against SDSU. If we can’t win the battle against ULNV, Fresno will kill us.

  12. Kev-1 November 4, 2017 11:57 am

Take a look at UNLV helmets. That is the curent “in” matte look with the satin finish. The UH matte helmet is three years too late.

  13. oneseason November 4, 2017 12:07 pm

It doesn’t look like Football season ticket holders get a discount on PPV. 1420 it is.

  14. H-Man November 4, 2017 12:20 pm

Me too listening to radio. No need PPV to hear UNLV drive to easy TD. Save money.

  15. What? November 4, 2017 12:21 pm

UNLV TD 7 – 0. Way to easy for UNLV.

    Correction:
    UH 7
    UNLV 49

  16. HawaiiMongoose November 4, 2017 12:24 pm

There’s a special PPV package available to all Spectrum customers, $66 for the two away games (UNLV today and Utah State in two weeks). It beats paying the rack rate of $75 for a single game. You just have to call Spectrum at 643-2100 to order.

  17. HawaiiMongoose November 4, 2017 12:25 pm

Our receivers need to stop dropping balls, it’s killing the offense.

  18. What? November 4, 2017 12:27 pm

    …Way too easy…

    ——-
Lot of dropped balls by UH receivers.
    Punt again for UH.
    0 – 2 on offense.

  19. oneseason November 4, 2017 12:28 pm

    #16. Thank you!

  20. H-Man November 4, 2017 12:28 pm

Watching Iowa score another touchdown to lead Ohio St 45-17, beginning 4th. And Michigan St just tied Penn St 24-24 in the 4th. These are games to watch.

  21. z November 4, 2017 12:49 pm

We going for drop pass record.

  22. Ipu Man November 4, 2017 12:50 pm

Amazing only 7-0 at end of first quarter.
UH defense doing a good job in my humble opinion.
Bobby Curran notes that if receivers hung onto balls,
Dru Brown would be 10 of 12 passes. So you can’t
    blame the quarterback…

  23. Buffoman November 4, 2017 12:51 pm

Why not change out the receivers? How could it hurt?

  24. z November 4, 2017 1:09 pm

    Wow 3 points. Whooopie doo.

  25. z November 4, 2017 1:32 pm

Our defense is keeping us in the game.

  26. islandman November 4, 2017 1:35 pm

    And our kicker.

  27. Buffoman November 4, 2017 2:37 pm

Did we regress during half time? Wow, looks familiar?

  28. Ipu Man November 4, 2017 2:38 pm

Too much fluoride in UH gator aid…

  29. Uhfan09 November 4, 2017 2:40 pm

This is da worst coaching staff. Unprepared, inexperience, just awful

  30. Buffoman November 4, 2017 2:44 pm

It looked like UNLV lined up for the onside kick and we were not prepared. Poor recognition by coaching staff. And it all started with a 15 yard penalty on an extra point try.

  31. Ipu Man November 4, 2017 3:26 pm

    Oh well, it was close…
And we can still win the remaining games.
    🙂 🙂 🙂

  32. H-Man November 4, 2017 3:30 pm

Game day objective achieved – St Juste rushed for more than 100 yds.

  33. Ipu Man November 4, 2017 3:37 pm

    24 31 H-Man…you win

  34. What? November 4, 2017 3:52 pm

Sorry, this is not the worst coaching staff. Does the name Fred Von Appen and Norm Chow sound familiar?

UH under Rolo is currently 10 – 13. That is not be great numbers. But, I think UH under Rolo will have at least 1 or 2 good seasons (8-4 or 9-3). Then the rebuilding cycle starts again.

The game was a lot more exciting than I expected.

The coaches did miss a call though when UNLV kicked an onside kick from the 50 yard line because of a penalty. That may have changed the tone of the game. It didn’t seem like they were expecting an onside kick.

It’s back to the drawing board for Rolo.

  35. H-Man November 4, 2017 4:32 pm

A win that I do not cherish. Warriors need to get untracked offensively, but this offense is reminiscent of the previous coaching staff. Remember that offense was built around Joey Iosefa. This one is built around Diocemy Saint Juste. Our players did the best they could given the coaching handicap.

  36. Mejiro November 4, 2017 4:41 pm

first post ever. cannot sit by and watch this season tank. sorry but season’s over. don’t even mention bowl game. time to play reserves to find diamond in rough. starters not doing it as hard as they try. give others chance to shine. what have you got ro lose rolo.

  37. oneseason November 4, 2017 4:59 pm

Well, the last coach had 10 wins in almost 4 seasons, so I don’t feel this is primarily a coaching problem. The offense, without Ursua, had 400 yards vs 412 for UNLV. I am hopeful that next years recruits will add depth and help turn things around. But I hope the AD looks at the coaching staff salaries relative to the rest of the conference and considers if this is an important issue.

  38. Mejiro November 4, 2017 5:06 pm

The boys tried and played hard. Still have three more games to shine and build momentum for next year. Don’t give up. Play like Warriors to the end. IMUA!!

  39. Willie November 4, 2017 5:22 pm

Well, looks like all that concern & worry about Coach Rolo being lured away is not going to happen, at least not next year. Also, as he said he’s happy to be here and money is not everything. Coach Rolo is a class guy, committed to making things better.

  40. shadow November 4, 2017 7:17 pm

Can’t believe our Coaches didn’t expect the onside kick after the 15 yd penalty. There goes the ballgame after that booboo.

Also noticed our Safety Coach watching his Safeties from BEHiND the UNLV offense, at least 30 yds away from the DBs. Don’ t what the heck he’s watching (or making any adjustments) from back there. I know he can’t see much (except the UNLV RB’s rear end) from that position. Doesn’t surprise me one bit we get constantly toasted over the middle with post routes.
