Rolo vs. Bobo challenge

As the Warriors prepare to play their Mountain West home opener on Saturday, head coach Nick Rolovich issued a challenge to CSU coach Mike Bobo to compete in the pregame garbage-can battle. It is a drill the UH quarterbacks go through daily as they try to toss a football into a garbage can from at least 30 yards away.

“It came to me yesterday,” Rolovich said of the challenge. “I like Bobo. He’s a former quarterback.”

Rolovich said the rules, for now, are hush-hush.

“I’m not going to report on that because I don’t want to give him any hints on what he needs to focus on,” Rolovich said.

A similar challenge to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh went unanswered last year.

“(Bobo is) a good guy,” Rolovich said. “It’s social media, right? You need to have a little fun.”

Rolovich said Bobo has “not formally” accepted.

The Rams are scheduled to arrive today.

Ben Zahniser, who played running back at Minot State last year, has joined the Warriors. He rushed for a team-high 601 yards in 11 games, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and scoring eight touchdowns.

Zahnisesr, who is 5 feet 9 and 178 pounds, practiced as a wideout today.

I’m surprised Zahniser is able to join/enroll at this late date…What is his class status? Does he have potential as a Kick returner to take the pressure off Ewaliko?

Watched Coach Bobo’s press conference. He is a straight forward straight shooting high expectation guy. Not your typical Coach speak guy. You can see why he has this team headed in right direction-let’s just meet him at his own game-60 minutes full throttle! GoWarriors!!!!

    ST:

any “hints” from coaching staff when we will see Genta on the field as a RB? KO or punt returner?

you kept reporting in Spring and Fall practice defense had a hard time bringing him down – how he would bounce off tacklers, etc.

change subject: building for long time fans — starting with the campus clubs is good — how about building a relationship with our young ( elementary school level ) kids and middle school kids to support the team?

way I see it — UH will suffer the same fate as Boyd’s gaming as the once strong supporters begin to pass away and their replacements have NO strong ties to Cal or Main Street or Fremont — they were the pillars who supported all 3 after 9/11 when tourism took a nose dive in Vegas

I suggested the Cal/Main Street GM leave his lofty office and visit the casino floor to see what was happening — talk to those playing, watch how his staff treats the Hawaii old timers – it’s something he would not want to see or hear — wonder why both seem “bare” compared to casinos on Fremont Street — especially Golden Nugget?

my high school buddy stays at the CAL every time he visits and plays $10,000 – $20,000 at the black jack table daily!!!! I don’t take that much for a 5-day visit!!! on one visit, he asked us if he could “borrow” money and we offered him $1,000 — no, he says, I need $10,000. we know he gets comp meals and room, but pays his own air fare from Hawaii to Vegas — is a 1st class ticket or 2 worth he continued patronizing? or, is the mindset he will come any way?

is that why we see so many Vacations Hawaii TV commercials?

    Great Afternoon All!

    Modeling.

I’d prefer QB1 watch Rolo put one on a rope thru a tire at 30 yards than float one into a garbage can.

He seems to have that one down already. 🙄

    Das it.

If you haven’t yet …. read ST’s column:

    UH Warriors paying for penalties.

    #6:

i interrupted that Rolo was only joking about deducting $100 from a player “stipend” for every 15-yard penalty; or, was he dead serous?

it used to be a “beauty” to see Colt put balls into a hanging, moving tire — magic touch!

stationary can may not be suitable as a moving target.

How can I watch the game this week don’t have spectrum?

    Howzit Tsaikos!
A-House, your buddy should stay and gamble at Orleans. They refund your plane fare if you gamble enough.

Aloha everybody ~ Saturday is FOOTBALL and TGATE time. We had a good turnout for the first game. Let’s do even better, support the team and have some ono grindz at the same time. We’re still in Cabana A at Rainbow Bay Marina. The routine remains the same: early crew arrive/set-up ~9AM, grill crew fires-up ~10-10:30, eat ono grindz until clean-up ~ 4:30. Donations to pay for the Cabana, pop-up tent and common items (paper & plastic items, charcoal, etc.) are always welcome. Remember, everybody (locals and visitors) are welcome. Questions – email me at jboster(at)yahoo(dot)com. Hope to see everybody there even if it’s after the game. Cheers, SailorBlue

    Dave #10:

i mentioned this to him this past April and he seemed luke warm to the idea — will mention again

we have relatives who stay at the Orleans and they get 1st class seats, suite, and food — all of it “comped” — least I forget, they send a “limo” for them too!!!

I like the Orleans very much — our “home” in Vegas.
