Warriors go back to work

After a loooong road trip to Laramie and a short mourning period, the Warriors were back practicing this morning on the grass field.

The Warriors spent extended sessions working on CSU’s schemes. That, of course, is the advantage of practicing at home. With a limited travel roster, the Warriors do not get to practice against the scout teams on the road. At home, the scouts can provide several different looks because of their large personnel.

Defensive tackles Viane Moala and Samiuela Akoteu both practiced today. They completed their one-game suspensions for violating unspecified team rules. Reserve defensive end Tevarua Eldridge remained on suspension this morning.

Keep the defense honest, DB has to run a few times a game off the read-option, implement some jet sweeps, draws, and misdirection bootlegs.

Too… chuck some down da field

Cole McDonald can pass. He was a 62% completion passer for 2,313 yards his senior year at Sonora High School. See his high school stats:

McDonald can only pass if the OC calls a passing play for him

Not much mention of it but noticed that Hendrie got a bit of playing time on Defense against Wyoming and I thought he player well. Hopefully that will get him more PT because we need his size and speed on the DL

    John Ursua:

University of Hawai’i sophomore John Ursua was among 10 receivers added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List announced by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation. The award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football.

Receivers are periodically added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. With three games under his belt,

Ursua is currently No. 1 nationally in receiving yards per game (151.0) and No. 2 in receptions per game (10.0).

    KHON2.

No one has mentioned this story, but to think that UH pays rent to play in a stadium with deplorable conditions is disturbing. What? Gotta wait until a fan falls through the rusted floor to see repairs? Hurts recruiting, too!

Was very disappointed after the game. We should have won it. But the disappointment lasted about a day before I started seeing the positives. Our guys overcame huge hurdles to be in position to win at the end. 7,200′ altitude, near freezing temps, and 3 dline folks missing, not to mention the travel. Dline guys were playing out of position with little relief as the normal rotation was not there. The Oline was in much better circumstances. I am proud of the way the team fought through…like Warriors.

The win didn’t happen…let it go and prepare for CSU.

    Six wins.

    Get to the Hawaii Bowl.

For now, that is more than acceptable.

It’s comforting to know that Hawaii can cross the 400-yard threshold with regularity.

Dru Brown is talented enough to compensate for the tipped passes that come with an undersized quarterback. We will see many, many, many more tipped passes.

Hawaii was in the game, on the road, against a team in the tougher division in the conference.

    Guud Evening Tsaikos…Bootiful Evening!

off topic…Seems Rick Pitino and Louisville basketball is in trouble again. Accused to $100K bribe for a recruit. Addidas made the offer if he signs with Louisville. This on the heel of Pitino being suspended for 5 games for the “party” his players had with strippers and call girls. Only 5 game suspension. Equality from the NCAA.

Billy goats will be tough this week. Then again, we need to beat tough teams to go bowling or contend for championships.
    IMUA WARRIORS!

$324 million to build a new stadium?

If we keep in mind how the city and state tend to take three times as long to build a project and with the added cost that usually is added to the original estimate, I say a $324 million project would reach $1 billion dollars. Also, a 3 year project would probably turn to a 10 year project.

Feed Lewis column about csu stadium said If csu can do it, …. The only time Hawaii will seriously consider building a new stadium is ifor someone actually falls through the rust in the orange section.

The weathering (rusting) steel football & baseball stadium concept was somebody’s innovative idea for the 1975 stadium. To me, the mall/business park/condo/hotel/stadium concept is the 21st Century version of that 70’s huckster’s pitch. Build a good new football stadium with individual seats for all fans. But if the mall/business park/condo/hotel/stadium has worked well on the mainland, let’s see the examples. UH football fans shouldn’t have to finance a new deplorable football stadium concept.

I’m proud of the way the Warriors played. Young and undersized they were in it to the end. We will win some close games and we will also lose some. But we are the WARRIORS go warriors.

  20. Maddog50 September 27, 2017 1:46 am

Stephen, is Eldridge reinstated? Is Chung hurt? There are a number of young DL-the fact that none were moved up this past week could only mean they are a ways away from competing and contributing. Kipper is the only youngster on either line seeing action

  21. Tak-Tak September 27, 2017 4:50 am

Larry Tuileta to BU Dru…. Ultra fast reaction, for the option type QB and was a great passer with very FEW interceptions at Punahou, and Body of a running back.

  22. cappie the dog September 27, 2017 6:17 am

So what school will sell their soul and hire Rick Pitino?

  23. cappie the dog September 27, 2017 6:33 am

Dark money is what’s probably protecting North Carolina.

    I read a book.

North Carolina was the test state for something called “Operation Red Map”.

A guy named Art Pope, I speculate, is who protects the Tar Heels from NCAA sanctions.

  24. A-House September 27, 2017 6:59 am

how many of us who watched the last 45 seconds of the Wyoming game came away puzzled at Rolo’s call for the time out and take the knee the final 30 seconds?

1st and 10 — why not gobble up 15 – 20 yards and put in the FG kicker?

who knows, maybe even a TD pass to Unga or Ursa or Collie

yes, Rolo is the Coach, but that does not preclude fans from questioning his decision(s)

IMHO, the coaching staff lost the game;; not the players!

  25. A-House September 27, 2017 7:02 am

wonder how many opponents would be puzzled to see Tuileta as the “wild cat” — most, if not all, would have NO stats or idea who he is.

or, is he “red-shirting” in 2017?

  26. H-Man September 27, 2017 8:11 am

The reason I don’t support the mall/stadium plan is because it appears the state will sacrifice the stadium design in favor or a mall that has a better view of Pearl Harbor and the surrounding area. The artist’s design sketch published earlier this year showed what appeared to be a “flattened” stadium. That design without an upper deck puts the fans in the upper sections very far away from the field. Not a design that will encourage more fans into the stadium. And in keeping with the flat design, the capacity will be surely be limited to 30,000 seats, at best.

  27. Andrew September 27, 2017 8:29 am

    24.

Yes 30,000 is too small and seems like a size for a stadium that a school like San Jose State or a lower tier school would have. I think a perfect size would be 40,000.

  28. turfwar September 27, 2017 10:18 am

I don’t envision seeing 40,000 in the stands for a long time. Getting 25,000 is tough these days.

  29. turfwar September 27, 2017 10:40 am

How does one petition for a brand new stadium when Hawaii’s fans don’t even use this one ? With such small crowds it would be like the Kaiser High School debacle. They built it ($5 mil) but nobody came. It’s not only a UH issue. It’s how young people are these days. I pay over $1,500 for 4 season tickets and I sell two of them cause they were not being used. Can you guys see young people today paying that kind of money to attend 6 games or sit in the nose bleed sections? Even Nick Saban has threatened the student body at Alabama with taking away student seats if they kept leaving games early. Times are changing. Young fans find it hard to dedicate 4 hours to attend a football game. They just got other stuff to do. Maybe there needs to be more offered like music, real music, more food options, interactive games, group competitions before games, etc. I say make it a small stadium (under 40,000) but include better screens and sound systems. Make it a concert like setting for every game. And if it becomes a hot sell because of limited seats then so be it. Pay or watch it on TV.

    @22
“IMHO, the coaching staff lost the game;; not the players!”
Col, still frustrated over the game? Take a deep breath and step away from the lanyard for the 155. It’s still a team game and shared blame. The KO return was a knife in the heart and the interception in the red zone was like having a pickpocket taking your wallet. Even the 3 dline who were left behind chipped in with whatever they weren’t supposed to do.

We can all expect to get knocked on our butt from time to time. Isn’t getting up and back in the fight the important thing? I believe the team (including coaches) will do that. Can’t wait to see this next game.

  31. inyoface September 27, 2017 11:55 am

That loss to Wyoming reminded me a lot of the UNLV game last year. Hopefully we won’t see another one like that again this year.
