Sun and fun in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — The Warriors had a lively 90-minute walk-through session this morning at the University of San Diego’s lower practice field.

USD is a postcard-perfect campus. Jim Harbaugh used to coach the Toreros. The campus also features the Jenny Craig Pavilion. It used to seat more but now slimmed down to 5,000 seats. (Yuck, yuck.)

    Rolo Offense version 1.0.

Shoko from the previous blog. Anyone watching the last two games will agree the offense has not been running smoothly. I know it can be frustrating to see the offense fail to convert on the majority of thirds downs or get stuffed on 4th and short but everyone has to remember that his is a brand new offense with a new coaching staff trying to install it. This season is just the test run for Rolo’s offense which is touted to be a hybrid of the spread option, the pistol and the R n S. The offense has shown a lot of promise but improvement can be made.

I give the coaches credit for the job they’ve done with installing portions of the base of the offense with the limited amount of teaching/practice time they’ve had. I suspect the play book for this version of Rolo’s offense is pretty thin at this point. It takes a lot of practice reps to teach a new play and to get all the players on the same page to execute it. NMSU did a good job in limiting the number of chunk plays and forced a lot of third downs which has been a weakness of the offense. It is now up to Rolo and staff to come up with adjustments to the adjustments defenses have been making. I’m confident they’ll come up with patches to the holes in their offensive program… hopefully sooner than later.

No matter how this season plays out fans can look forward to the future for Rolo Offense 2.0 with most of the bugs worked out and with added features.

I have fond memories of the lower athletic field, and the campus of USD. I am an alumnus of USD. Our business school flag football team rolled butt over the law school team. We had over half of the business school team from Hawaii (Iolani, Maryknoll, Punahou, and Aiea).

    Go Warriors!!! Go Toreros!!!

our last trip to San Diego – we stayed at the Omni Hotel which has a connecting walk way to the pro-baseball stadium

across the street were railway tracks and we could see the trains come and go – train goes all the way to the Chargers stadium — last stop

instead, we took buses and it was a mess – took nearly 45 minutes just to exit the stadium parking lot, through several neighborhoods, and finally to the hotel — told our tour guide about the train and he had no idea what I was talking about

would have bee a lot faster and cheaper to and from hotel to stadium and back – no stop lights for sure!!!

Recommend park at a trolley station along with green line and take the trolley to Qualcomm….

What you might expect tomorrow-moving the pocket, screens, draws, and play action to TE. Do I have a source? Nope! Just makes sense. I certainly expect something a little different and keeping it close or better till half-regroup then win!!!! GoWarriors!!!!!

So how are the former players doing?
They look a bit forelorn, like “Coach,
    can you hire us?” look…

Been noticing a lot of former players on the sideline before the home games. Last game got to talk with Rolo’s old mate, QB turned DE Joe Correia.

Looking ahead watching Boise vs San Jose St., my first time actually watching Boise, not impressed with them. Hawaii get chance! But first San Diego St. Defense just needs to continue on the right path and offense needs to give them some rest
