Whoops

By Stephen Tsai on June 1, 2010

You know you’re old when you forget to post a blog item. Apologies. Anyway, things I learned today: • Former UH linebacker R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane has earned a callback with Sacramento of the United Football League. The UFL serves as the NFL’s developmental league. He reports next week. •  Rainbow Wahine softball player Jenna Rodriguez’s nickname is, naturally, J-Rod. She said she is Mexican and Canadian. •  The UH head coaches are scheduled to have evaluation meetings with administrators this week. […]

Baseball Rainbows in Arizona

By Stephen Tsai on May 31, 2010

The baseball Rainbows (33-26) will remain in Arizona, drawing San Diego (36-20) in the opener of NCAA Tournament  Regional at Arizona State. ASU plays Milwaukee in the other opening-round game in the Arizona State Regional. * * * * * The Rainbow Wahine were scheduled to depart Tuscaloosa early this morning for the journey to Oklahoma City, site of the College World Series. * * * * * Can you think of a more clutch play than Jenna Rodriguez’s two-run […]

WOW!!!

By Stephen Tsai on May 30, 2010

Jenna Rodriguez blasts a walk-off, two-run homer to send the Rainbow Wahine to the College World Series. Sixteen of the Rainbows’ 20 outs were strikeouts. But then Rodriguez drives a pitch just barely fair in left, driving in Kelly Majam, to deliver the 5-4 victory over top-ranked Alabama. And the Rainbow baseball team beats Fresno State to win the WAC Tournament and advance to the Regionals. I think Coach Trapasso has just earned himself a multi-year contract. * * * […]

UH, Alabama split to force decisive third game

By Stephen Tsai on May 29, 2010

The Rainbow Wahine hold on for an 8-7 victory in the second game to force a winner-take-all third game tomorrow in the Super Regionals. Alabama won the first game, 8-0, in five innings, and then scored six runs in the fifth inning of the second game to tie it at 7. But a sacrifice fly gave the Rainbows the lead, and Stephanie Ricketts worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh.

Super Regional postponed

By Stephen Tsai on May 28, 2010

The Super Regional between UH and Alabama has been postponed until tomorrow because of today’s thunderstorm. Game are scheduled for 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. (Hawaii time), and will air on ESPNU. If necessary, Game 3 will be Sunday. * * * * * ESPN did something about building a fantasy NFL team. I’m bored, I figured I’d give it a shot using UH players from the past 11 years. Rules are this: 53-player roster. Players have to be relatively […]

Rolo's still the one

By Stephen Tsai on May 27, 2010

If Mouse Davis were to join the UH football staff, as anticipated, it would not change the current dynamics. Nick Rolovich is the offensive coordinator, and he will call the plays, whether Davis or Mike Martz is at his side. The way it would shape up is Davis, well respected as the designer of the modern run-and-shoot offense, would serve as a mentor, much like how head coach Greg McMackin is a mentor to newly promoted defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. […]

McMackin is today's chat guest

By Stephen Tsai on May 25, 2010

Want the skinny on assistant coach Ron Lee’s resignation? Want an in-depth report on the depth chart? Wanna be a billionaire so frickin’ bad? (Sorry, song is stuck in my head.) Head coach Greg McMackin will answer your questions during today’s penultimate Warrior Beat Show, which will begin at about noon or so. (I would bet on “so.”) Pose your questions on this blog or the show’s Cover It Live Section. We will not be taking in-studio questions from the […]
