Monday ramblings

By Stephen Tsai on September 6, 2010

• Quarterback Bryant Moniz will resume practicing tomorrow, UH head coach Greg McMackin said after this morning’s 2-hour practice. He is expected to start in Saturday’s road game against Army. • McMackin also said that Brent Rausch and Shane Austin are “bracketed” as the No. 2 quarterbacks. • The coaches will meet today to set the travel roster. Some of the issues: Will David Graves, who has been running Army’s offense in practices, travel as the fourth quarterback? Will the […]

Sunday ramblings

By Stephen Tsai on September 5, 2010

• “Colt” is alive and well in Manoa. When asked about running the “pistol” offense — in which the lone back is aligned directly behind the quarterback — assistant coach Mouse Davis said the Warriors were, in fact, running the “Colt” offense. Huh? Turns out that in UH’s version, according to Davis, the alignment  is referred to as “Colt.” • The Warriors have run the scheme as far back as 2007, when Leon Wright-Jackson and Daniel Libre rotated as the […]

Colt Brennan, Ray Hisatake waived

By Stephen Tsai on September 4, 2010

Tough break for Colt Brennan, who was released by the Oakland Raiders today.  The 24-hour waiver period, we believe, is in effect. But it appears unlikely that, at this late stage, he will be picked up before next week’s opening of the NFL season.  Terry Brennan said his son will return to Southern California for a few days, then head to Arizona, where he will resume training. It’s a long NFL season. You never know what might happen.  * * […]

Day after; Satele released

By Stephen Tsai on September 3, 2010

• Quarterback Bryant Moniz said he does not believe he suffered a concussion last night. The medical staff, however, will keep evaluating his health. • Update: We’re now told that left wideout Rodney Bradley might have suffered a bruised rib, not a broken one, while attempting a diving catch • The offensive line played well against an imposing USC defensive line. While some critics had questioned the line’s limited experience, I don’t know if the blockers were ever referred to […]

Game Day

By Stephen Tsai on September 2, 2010

Season is officially underway. The Warriors performed the haka. And,  for those interested, they are dressed in green jerseys and white pants. * * * * * All of those questions should be answered tonight, such as: • How good is UH’s offensive line?  • How good is quarterback Bryant Moniz? • Is Vili back?  • Will Darius Bright play? * * * * *  Brashton Satele started at inside linebacker for the J-E-T-S today. * * * * *  […]

Blue period

By Stephen Tsai on September 1, 2010

One of my favorite tombstones reads: “I told you I was sick.” Who really knew BYU was serious about leaving the MWC to go independent in football and transplanting its other sports into another conference? But BYU did just that in reaching an agreement with the West Coast Conference. Of course, in the process it deflated the WAC and MWC … Will BYU stay put? Right up until the Big 12 or Pac-10 calls. But if  you’re the WCC, a […]

The beginning is near …

By Stephen Tsai on August 31, 2010

Not sure how the offensive line will do.  Can’t make a guess on the Warriors’ pass rush.  But I know this for sure: The haka is the best it’s ever been.  Nobody is trying to hide in the back, least of all the freshmen. The one thing that a UH official wondered was: If this is a team chant, why aren’t the coaches involved? Why indeed? * * * * *  The Warriors appeared to have correctly handled running back […]

Guest host: Dopaco24

By Stephen Tsai on August 30, 2010

As promised, Dopaco24 is blog host for a day. Meet him: My name is Patrick Collins.  I’m a 27 year old Army veteran who is originally from Alabama. I am out of the Army now.  Currently I’m enrolled at KCC.   Everyone in my family, with the exception of myself, is an Alabama fan.  My parents even have a Big Al statue in their front yard. I first became a fan of UH while watching the 2001 Hawai’i-BYU game, although […]
