By Stephen Tsai on January 13, 2011

According to ESPN.com/newyork, former Warrior Chad Owens is negotiating with the New York Jets. Here’s the link: Chad Owens * * * * *  Upon viewing a T-shirt Royce Pollard was wearing in a picture published yesterday, J went to the files and wonders if the player on the right is Pollard: * * * * *  Travel subsidies?  Apparently that is nothing new to the volleyball Warriors, who have been paying them for years.  The Warriors provide a stipend […]

Wet Wednesday

Ran into quarterback Bryant Moniz today. He was between classes, so he was heading to the football offices to study videos of past games:  * * * * *  En route to classes were wideouts Darius Bright and Royce Pollard: * * * * *  It has been raining — hard — which means Warrior volleyball must be starting. I think it rained nearly every home match the past few years.  Then again, the volleyball season does fall partly during […]

By Stephen Tsai on January 11, 2011

Nice to see Kelly Majam (with associate head coach Dee Wisneski, left, and assistant coach Kaulana Gould Williams, right) back in action.  • Softball fans have to like the enthusiasm of this year’s Rainbow Wahine. “A new year, new opportunities,” third baseman Melissa Gonzalez said. “I’m excited for the new year.” • Looks like Jenna Rodriguez, mostly the designated player last year, will have an expanded role. She’ll play right field, as well as serve as the third pitcher behind […]

He said he “woke up” in The Queen’s Medical Center and eventually learned “my life had changed.” He said all he knows of the accident is through news reports and other people’s accounts. Brennan suffered a broken left clavicle, which required surgery, a fractured […]

UH offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich will be one of the featured speakers Monday at the American Football Coaches Association’s convention in Dallas. It also is considered an unofficial job fair for coaches.  * * * * * *  The 2011 Warrior volleyball team will be introduced in the so-called Volleyfest tonight following the UH basketball game in the […]

By Stephen Tsai on January 7, 2011

Brian Clay Jr., a cornerback from Will C. Wood High in Vacaville, Calif.,  told the Warrior Beat he has accepted a football scholarship offer from the Warriors. “I love the family-oriented atmosphere there,” Clay said. “That’s important because it’s so far away from home.” He added: “Hawaii is going to win a lot of games. It’s going in the right direction. I want to be a part of that.” Clay said he is 6 feet 1, 185 pounds and can […]

Big Wednesday

By Stephen Tsai on January 6, 2011

The first Wednesday next month — Feb. 2 — is the Warrior football team’s busiest shopping day. Not only is that the first day recruits may sign binding national letters of intent, it also is the tryout day for walk-on players. Only walk-on prospects enrolled in UH’s spring semester are eligible for the tryout. The walk-on winners will be allowed to participate in the offseason conditioning program, including the Super Games competition, and spring practice. Even starting quarterback Bryant Moniz […]
