Mana Silva

By Stephen Tsai on May 13, 2011

Howzit, everyone. This is Mana Silva. First off, I would like to thank all my coaches at UH who have helped me through my career at Hawaii, especially Coach Rich Miano. There have been many people who have helped me grow and develop as an individual, and I am forever grateful to each and every individual who has had a positive influence in my life.  My time at Hawaii has been a blessing. Thank you everyone. Big mahaloz to the […]

Kazz

Congrats to the Rainbow Wahine Softball team on their victory against Utah State! Regular season champions New Mexico State earned a bye and will face off against the Rainbow Wahine today at 8am HAWAII TIME. Fresno State’s home field is a classic “pitcher’s park”. On paper this favors the Rainbow Wahine as they boast the best pitching in the conference. Probably will see Stephanie Ricketts start today as Kaia Parnaby was feeling a bit under the weather a few days […]

R & R with JM2375

By Stephen Tsai on May 11, 2011

R & R: Rants and Rambles from da Clueless Wahine Howzit! It’s gonna be difficult to follow BIK and Mrs. C, but I’ll try. On Sunday, I attended the MPI halau performance, entitled “R & R”. In keeping with that theme, I’m doing some R & R – ranting and rambling. So, here goes. As has been stated many times on this blog and other places, the crowds at UH sports events tend to be older. UH needs to start […]

By Stephen Tsai on May 10, 2011

“Howzit, gang!  I’m Mrs. C, or ColomaOhana to my online ohana.  I hail from da’ “mommies site” www.momsinhawaii.com, where my dear friend, Esme Infante Nii, is the host and Chief Executive Mom. I was born and raised in Ewa Beach and now live very near to where I grew up. So when peoplewho know me and say stuff on here like, “Watch out, Mrs. C going get da’slippah” or “Uh oh…..da’ tita is here,”  you know why. Even if you don’t know me […]

Big Island Kurt: Out of the Woodwork

By Stephen Tsai on May 9, 2011

Consider this one of the highlights of my life! For one day at least, I get the keys to the Cadillac — also known as the Warrior Beat Blog.  This comes on the heels of a recent Warrior football practice in Hilo where I got to meet some of the good folks on the blog.  Yet there are so many that I still have yet to meet. In short, this is Bigislandkurt and I’m from……well, the Big Island. Ka’u to […]

Debt perception

By Stephen Tsai on May 8, 2011

Think UH’s money woes will go away anytime soon? Think again. To cover deficits, the athletic department draws money from a fund that, in essence, is like a credit union. Several entities, such as RainBowTique, deposit their excess cash into the fund. The fund has covered the athletic department’s’ accumulated deficit of about $10 million. The department pays about $60,000 a year in interest. Last month, a report suggested that the school should just forgive the loan that would be […]

Expansion plans?

By Stephen Tsai on May 7, 2011

Word on the boulevard is is that former Kahuku High kicker Cameron Mercado has inquired about joining the Warriors. Mercado was a one-year wonder known for booming kickoffs and long field goals. He moved to Hawaii in 2009, helped lead Kahuku to the 2009 state championship game, and then moved back to Florida. But Division I offers did not materialize. If talks progress, he would present an interesting dilemma for the Warriors, who are content with the three kickers who […]

Class act

By Stephen Tsai on May 6, 2011

In 2012, the Warriors will subsidize the costs of charter flights for visiting Mountain West football opponents. The bill will be in the six figures. Per trip. That’s the cost of doing business in a new league. This year, as part of  higher-level instructions to act like a business, the Warriors will stay on the Mainland between the Washington and UNLV games. The savings of not coming back to Hawaii are said to be about $95,000. Not sure how that […]
