Howzit, everyone. This is Mana Silva.

First off, I would like to thank all my coaches at UH who have helped me through my career at Hawaii, especially Coach Rich Miano. There have been many people who have helped me grow and develop as an individual, and I am forever grateful to each and every individual who has had a positive influence in my life.  My time at Hawaii has been a blessing. Thank you everyone.

Big mahaloz to the fans and the Tsaikos for your continuous support.

The roar of the crowd in Aloha Stadium is one feeling that I will never forget. Everyone keep supporting because this year’s UH team will be great. WAC champs guarantee!

For an update: Im still waiting out the lockout and waiting for the opportunity to play on Sundays.

Congrats to brothers and Warriors Alex Green, Greg Salas, and Kealoha Pilares. They are high-character guys who will represent their families and the state of Hawaii great in the NFL.

I’m a Hilo boy, so shout out to all those from the raining town and my Hilo boys.

I’ll try to answer as many questions all of you may have today.

    Mana,

Were you talking to any particular teams prior to the lockout? I understand if you’d prefer not to mention any teams by name. Good luck to you and hope to see you on Sundays!

If football wasn’t an option for you, what other sport, if any, would you have liked to have played in college? and why?

  11. Eagle May 13, 2011 2:23 am

Thanks for taking the time, Mana!

…AND for Helping to Lead the Offense Back to Dominance

TOP Offense, Top Turnover Defense (AND Shut-Down when the game is on the line) … and now with Coach Tomey, Top Special Teams … No Reason for Warriors NOT to be In the Top Mix for WAC (& later, MWC) Champs …

As a free agent Who/What have you, your coaches and agents/scouts figured are the Teams (or if no names, defense styles) that would be your best fit for their style of defense and their need for you … ?

No Doubt you’ll get your Training Camp chances and we’re seeing you making and helping That Team !

  20. Garret May 13, 2011 3:42 am

    Mana,

It was awesome to be able to watch you during your Warrior career! You made so many big plays and changed games, and we know the NFL needs playmakers. I hope that the lockout ends so that you have your chance to earn a spot in the NFL. Choosing a team will be crazy for free agents like you since there will be such a short time for everybody to sign, more hectic than a normal year…but I’m sure that you and your agent will choose well.

  21. Kekoa May 13, 2011 3:54 am

    Mr. Silva ~

Thank you for sharing your skills with the Warrior team and providing us with sheer athleticisim. I appreciate the extreme effort you put forth to showcase your talent. What a true representative of the Warrior Spirit.

I will be praying for your deliverance to an NFL team. A talent like yours must be put on display for all to enjoy.

Much Aloha to you and your family, and may good fortune follow you always.

  22. Kekoa May 13, 2011 3:59 am

Early Friday the 13th greetings to Midnite & Barbra over in Bush country!

  23. Kekoa May 13, 2011 4:07 am

…and speaking of Hilo town. Shouting out to the Big Hilo Fan and his lovely wife. I hope you two can come out to the sandbox soon. We miss the wit & wisdom of our resident court Jester.

  24. Pauoa Boy May 13, 2011 4:19 am

Ope Howzit Bruddah Mana… thanks for all the highlights you went provide on the football field for us. I was almost positive either you would’ve been drafted or at least signed on as a free agent quickly with an NFL team. Too bad for the lockout cause I’m sure you and some of our other Warrior boys would’ve got picked up by somebody. Anyway, congrats on being drafted in the UFL if it all doesn’t work out. Still I think you get um my bruddah just continue to work hard and we’ll see you playing on Sundays garrans babbarrans…

  25. Pauoa Boy May 13, 2011 4:24 am

Mana, now that you have completed your last year at UH, who do you currently feel has the best chance to become your successor at the Safety position? Who have you seen over the past couple years that you feel is due to breakout and have a killer season on defense?

  26. Kekoa May 13, 2011 4:24 am

Oh, and btw BHF2, I spoke to your cousin the vice-Principal of Kapolei High about his miscreants. Do you know that he walked over to my house to discuss ways we could corral these kids?!

Needless to say, I was impressed with his pro-active approach to a growing problem. It was then that he found out that I knew you.

Something tells me that there is little hope of any follow up.

  27. Kekoa May 13, 2011 4:45 am

On the other side of PB’s #25 post ~

What would be your advice to a youngster who wants to walk on? What other steps should he consider taking in order to make the team?

    • His academics are solid (engineering student).

    • Has the physical attributes.

    • Wants to take a year to train further.

    • Comes ‘unhearlded’ from HS.

  28. gmahoney May 13, 2011 4:50 am

Mana, thanks for the memories and good luck for your future endeavors.

  29. gigi-hawaii May 13, 2011 5:17 am

Mana, good luck and best wishes! I hope you get on the team of your dreams!

  30. Annoddah Dave May 13, 2011 5:21 am

    Mana & Tsaiko blog dogs,

Best wishes in the future and thanks for sharing. Have you thought about your vision? Have you written it down? Think about where you want to go for the next 10 years and what you want to be. Set your goals, it will set you free, cause you don’t have to worry about what other people think you should do!

  31. CoolEthan May 13, 2011 5:48 am

    Mana,

Good to see you on L & L the other night. Your future is now and will be prosper, thanks perserverance, right attitude and discipline. Cheers to you playing on Sundays.

Rivalsdotcom, this morning…reading bout-2011 Team Rankings: (top fifty)

    UH ranked #22, for lb’s

    #42, for wr’s

    #45, for ath’s

  33. Shoko May 13, 2011 6:11 am

    Morning gang!

Mana, good luck on your NFL dreams. Pretty sure when this lockout ends, you’re going to get some serious looks from several NFL teams. Continue to train hard and don’t give up.

Hope everyone has a good “Friday the 13th” day!

  34. Old Diver May 13, 2011 6:24 am

    Mana,

At times it would appear opposing QB’s thought you were on offense. Was knowing where the QB’s was going to throw the ball something you developed or was it an instinct you were born with? And thanks for giving us thrills at Aloha Stadium we will aways remember.

  35. d1shima May 13, 2011 6:43 am

    Great Morning All!

    Mana Silva,

Mahalo for the terrific ride you provided for Warrior fans! Best wishes going forward for a speedy and fortuitous resolution.

  36. d1shima May 13, 2011 6:45 am

    Mana,

You can provide a fairly unique insight to future CFB prospects from Hawaii because of your career path. What were the determining factors that first led you away from the State to play and study and then brought you back?

    Mahalo again.

  37. bigislandkurt May 13, 2011 7:01 am

Mana — you always have, and will continue to make us proud here back on da home island.

    BIK

  38. LizKauai -iPad May 13, 2011 7:18 am

Welcome, Mana! Looking forward to seeing what this interesting football season will bring to both the pros (congrats, btw, you may be among the few on a field somewhere) and the Warriors!

Any projections on who you think will step up to keep the Warriors rolling this year?

  39. madeinhawaii May 13, 2011 7:42 am

    Mana…

Thank you for the years you spent as a Warrior. You gave us a lot of memorable moments and I, for one, wish you the best in years to come. Good luck at the next level! (You’ll get there.)

  40. chopsueyboy May 13, 2011 7:48 am

Colt Brennan to be on Bobby Curran show next hour.

Anyone having trouble logging on to ESPN 1420 honolulu?

Seems like they didn’t pay to retain domain name.

  41. tommui May 13, 2011 7:58 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

And a bright morning to Mana and his ohana!

  42. NorthShoreFan May 13, 2011 7:58 am

Mana…BIG MAHALO for all the conrtibutions you’ve made to the Warrior Football program.

I take extreme pride in seeing athletes from the 808 who decide to play ball at home. To see you guys excel, like you and the other seniors have over the years, really makes the whole state proud. I hear it at the games that I’ve attended and in the office. One of the things I really appreciate is the 808 boyz carry themselves with pride and honor. You hardly hear of any 808 boyz getting in “trouble”, especially in the Warrior program.

I look forward to watching you and the rest of the boyz from the 808 play on Sundays. Good luck and keep working hard!

  43. gigi-hawaii May 13, 2011 8:04 am

ST, you really should try to get Colt on here as blog host. That would be terrific.

  44. chopsueyboy May 13, 2011 8:22 am

    Colt on after commercial break

  45. hubby May 13, 2011 8:23 am

Nice way to welcome Mana. (more head shaking)

  46. ManaSilva May 13, 2011 8:25 am

  48. ManaSilva May 13, 2011 8:27 am

  49. ManaSilva May 13, 2011 8:30 am

    For Old Driver:

I played QB my whole life and it helped me tremendously in seeing and reading the QB. I am able to use my reading skills and instincts to help me make plays on the ball

  50. ManaSilva May 13, 2011 8:32 am

    FOr A-Joe:

I would have loved to play Baseball in Murakami stadium. I played baseball my entire life.

  51. Hawaiianbod May 13, 2011 8:36 am

Howzit Mana! Good luck in the ‘League’. Thank you for returning to the Aina and becoming a Warrior. God’s blessings to you and your Ohana.

    1) If you had to do it over again, would you still go the mainland route? You probably appreciated ‘home’ so much more, eh?

    2) What was your most memorable moment as a Warrior?

    3) What will you miss most as a Warrior?

    4) What advice did you give your brother?

    Mahalo!

  52. ManaSilva May 13, 2011 8:42 am

    For Kekoa:

As far as walking on.. I would say to walk on @ UH..its a great opportunity..I wouldn’t recommend waiting one year to train..jus go out there n c wat college ball is all about..I went completely under the radar coming out of high school and didnt have a single offer..tell him dont be discouraged..for me i received my scholarship after one spring ball..jus have to work harder than everyone else

  53. ManaSilva May 13, 2011 8:45 am

    Howzit Hawaiianblood:

    1) I would go direct to UH out of high school

    2) Interception to seal the game against Nevada

    3) I will the most spending time with the boys off the field, we were one big brotherhood. Also the roar of Aloha stadium from all the fans.

    4) The advice I told my brother is to work harder than everyone else

  54. Slugger May 13, 2011 8:51 am

    Good morning, gang!

Morning, Mana! Welcome to the Tsaiko clubhouse.

  55. Slugger May 13, 2011 8:52 am

    Mana,

  56. RedZone May 13, 2011 8:57 am

Mana thankyou for playing for the University of Hawaii and all of Hawaii. I hope you get to live your dream at the next level. I can’t understand what the pro teams are waiting on. They all could use the ball magnet. Best of luck.

  57. ManaSilva May 13, 2011 9:01 am

    Hi Slugger:

I graduated last year. Follow my football career, I still plan to go into medicine in the future.

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

A big mahalo and aloha to Mana Silva for taking us along for the ride these last couple of years. You represent the state, local athletes, Hawaiians and KS with great class and athletic ability.

  59. Da Punchbowl Kid May 13, 2011 9:04 am

    Manan –

Are you at liberty to say which NFL teams have shown an interest in signing you?

  60. Da Punchbowl Kid May 13, 2011 9:05 am

Aiyah! That should read “Mana” not “Manan” above. 😳

  61. ManaSilva May 13, 2011 9:05 am

    2 PauoaBoy:

The next in line who will have a great year this year will be my man Kenny Estes..He has everything a free safety needs..Everyone jus watch him play..he will do big things this year..he is my closest friend on the team n this is his year to break through

  64. Bryson May 13, 2011 9:16 am

Mana Congrats on Closing Out A Successful College Career….What Was It Like To Play In Front Of The Hawaii Fans Where You Were Born N Raised as Opposed to Playing For a Mainland School? What advice would you offer a local recruit if he’s choosing between Hawaii and a school on the mainland?

    You go Hawaiian!

  67. papajoe2 May 13, 2011 9:27 am

Mana, we followed you throughout your high school and college career. Thanks for coming “home”. We watched everyone of the games at UH and cheered loudly everytime you made something happen, whether it was a tackle, broken up a pass or an interception. All cheers were very loud, but the loudest was probably when you had that sack. It was unexpectly thrilling.

    Oahu Ohana

ps. tell mom and pop papajoe2 said hello. Also, sis and Kana. They’ll eventually will find out who I am. Looking forward to watching Kana’s contribution in the future too.

  68. papajoe2 May 13, 2011 9:40 am

  71. A-joe May 13, 2011 10:25 am

Would’ve been cool to see both Kolten and Mana together playing both Football and baseball at Manoa.

  72. Pauoa Boy May 13, 2011 10:47 am

Right on Mana, had a feeling Kenny Estes would’ve been your choice and be the next one to kill at the Safety position. Mahaloz for answering and good luck in your future pro football career. Train hard buleh cause there is no limit to what you can do, just do work bruddah someone going take notice!

  73. Blue Shark May 13, 2011 10:52 am

    Go BaseBows! x 2!

  82. Garret May 13, 2011 3:08 pm

Looks like no school with a football team wants to join the WAC, so they will stay under the NCAA minimum in 2012 and maybe longer. I guess Seattle will be added as a non-football member.

Benson told the Beaumont Enterprise this week that neither Lamar, long rumored as a football-playing target, nor Sam Houston will be joining the WAC for the 2012-13 academic year, the deadline for which is July 1.

Citing an unnamed source, the San Jose Mercury News singled out Seattle University as being expected to receive “serious consideration” as a non-football member.

So if you’re hoping for rabbits out of a hat — i.e., the football-playing schools the WAC needs to secure its long-term future — you’re probably going to have to wait.

  83. Slugger May 13, 2011 3:10 pm

Saw Terrence Bell, Darryl McBride & Darius Bright at Sean Priester’s Soul restaurant this afternoon. Guys trying to keep up their weight.

They might get on the blog later, but I’m sure they’ll be lurking since I told them Mana was hosting today.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    GO BASEBOWS!!!

  84. Garret May 13, 2011 3:18 pm

This article has a nice summary of the conference TV deals. I’ll summarize:

    Big 10: $252 mil/year, expiring 2032 ($20 mil/year of it will probably go to $80 mil/year in 2016, so they should be over $310 mil/year in 2016)

    Pac-12: $250 mil/year, expiring 2023

    SEC: $205 mil/year, expiring 2024

    ACC: $155 mil/year, expiring 2023

Big 12: $150 mil/year, main part of deal expiring 2016, they are expected to go to about $330 mil/year starting in 2016

Big East: $36 mil/year, expiring 2013–their basketball rights will get them big money

C-USA: $16 mil/year, expiring 2016 (they got a good increase a month ago and they should get another increase in 2016)

    MWC: $11.7 mil/year, expiring 2016 (might be 2020)

  86. Slugger May 13, 2011 3:31 pm

Conjecture: Oprah’s OWN channel was switched from channel 50 to channel 67 this week. I wonder if Oceanic is going to use channel 5-0 as their UH sports channel? …

Hope they don’t make it a premium channel that requires a box…ugh! Just add a small $ charge so that everyone who gets Oceanic cable service is able to view UH sports.

  87. Buffoman May 13, 2011 3:34 pm

    Mana:

You should be, by what you’ve lived by as a Warrior, and written above, be an inspiration to the men on scholarship.

As a non-rated, no inquiry walk on, you buss your okole more than all those other “rated” folks and you get to eventually not only play, but start and gain team, conference and community recognition.

For all those guys who wonder, how come I not getting playing time or mus be favoritism, maybe they jes neva buss okole as much as you. I’m sure you’re the type that if someone was working out as hard, studying as hard, running as hard as you, you’d probably start going even harder.

Imagine if all Warriors approached that game like you.

Mana, I hope your Warrior life serves as an example for all those present and future schollie folks such that they must burn to earn.

  88. wafan May 13, 2011 3:37 pm

    Good evening, everyone!

  89. wafan May 13, 2011 3:38 pm

Hope to see you play every Sunday!

  97. wafan May 13, 2011 3:42 pm

    Closer!

  98. Slugger May 13, 2011 3:42 pm

Oceanic cable: Channel 12 will be the UH sports channel. The program guide will move to channel 24. Dang! I think 5-0 woulda been a cool channel association. No word on pricing…

  99. wafan May 13, 2011 3:43 pm

M’s are really struggling in Cleveland.

2 of 3 games there went into extra innings. They lost all three.

  100. wafan May 13, 2011 3:43 pm

    100

  101. wafan May 13, 2011 3:44 pm

Dang. The M’s lost today, too. That makes it 6 straight losses.

  102. Slugger May 13, 2011 3:45 pm

I wonder if the FB players are restricted from posting on this blog?

  103. wafan May 13, 2011 3:45 pm

    2nd century!

  104. Slugger May 13, 2011 3:46 pm

    M’s? Cleveland Indians vs. Milwaukee?

  105. wafan May 13, 2011 3:46 pm

    Slugger . . .

Channel 50 would have made a lot of sense. Think of the cool ads they could have run!

    Too obvious, I guess.

  106. wafan May 13, 2011 3:47 pm

    Slugger . . .

    Seattle Mariners

    We call them the M’s.

Maybe should call them the L’s.

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  107. tommui May 13, 2011 3:47 pm

SLUGGER: re: #98 – are those digital channels and would it be in HD?

Curious – a game is a game but HD digital would be frosting on the cake!

  108. Slugger May 13, 2011 3:48 pm

If I didn’t have chores to do, I’d be at the BaseBOWS game…

    GO BOWS!!!

Off to the library, shaved ice, and then cleaning … laters …

  109. wafan May 13, 2011 3:49 pm

Really, though, it really seems they are the farm team for the rest of the major league world. Always seem to trade away their youngersters only to face and lose to them a year or two later.

  110. wafan May 13, 2011 3:52 pm

Okay, hope everyone has a fun Friday night at home or at the Les!

    Go ‘Bows!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  111. Slugger May 13, 2011 3:53 pm

    tommui,

It’s gonna be offered in the standard cable package. I know there are HD channels associated with the regular ones, but I need a cheat sheet to translate. I would think they’d offer HD programming for UH sports. I was just told that it’ll be channel 12.

  112. Slugger May 13, 2011 4:00 pm

The Mariners… ahh… I don’t think I have one of their hats. I used to have tons of baseball caps. Didn’t wear them often. I have a Milwaukee Brewers cap from one of the Spring Training games I attended years ago. I liked the “M” with the stalks of grain in the logo. The one I like most is a lavender Red Sox cap I bought at Fenway Park autographed by Barry Zito.

K, gotta get going… hasta la vista, baby!

  113. gigi-hawaii May 13, 2011 4:18 pm

ha! I thought M referred to Memphis. When you said M lost, I thought Wait a minute, the game isn’t over.

  114. billigaste spelen May 13, 2011 4:44 pm

I just added this webpage to the google reader, fabulous stuff. Cannot get enough!

    Comment from: Stephen [Member]

    Yes, Liane, you’re right.

I’ve got my clippers, weeders and the huge garbage bags and I’m ready to hit the backyard. If Idon’t show up for work tomorrow, it’s because I was eaten by sleeping grass.

    05/13/07 @ 11

    Comment from: WarriorMojo [Visitor]

How does “Mother’s Day” translate into “Get Your Lazy Okole Outside And Pull Weeds Day”? Don’t weeds have mothers?

LOL@WarriorMojo. Riveting commentary like this is the reason why I am certain that this blog will someday win the Pulitzer prize for journalism. 🙂

    Mother’s Day/Yard:

The wife said for Mother’s Day she wanted me to do yard work So there I was, sweating it in the sun.

She got the lunches, dinners and presents from the kids, so it wasn’t like she was deprived.

And then when I was done, she said: So that’s half my present, right?

I’ll be heading to the mall in a bit.

    Hi guys,

Finally made it to Hawaii, what a beautiful place!

And the food!, I must have eaten three pineapples and a case of macadamia nut chocolates today.

Also went looking for a part time job, some dude said to try the Pink Pussycat on hotel St..

Couldn’t find it, but got lots of offers from Asian men driving around in Honda accords.

Seems they like big blonde girls with five o’clock shadow.

    JMI,

You mentioned that MIH’s wife was 2D, if true, that is very sad.

I am blessed with 47DDD’s, a little heavy and I often bump into things, but I like standing out in a crowd.

ps MIH, one word, Tissue Paper, ok two words.

    Comment from: maryann(e) [Visitor]

    JMI,

Was that you in the silver Accord?

I have to admit, you were very persuasive tonight.

BTW thanks for letting me keep the change from the five dollar bill, always appreciate gratuities.

Someone else sent me to a place called Rock-Za, couldn’t find it either.

The gentleman kept asking if I had any skills with ping pong balls, I said “do I look Chinese”?

Wonder what he meant by that though.

I do a lot of number analysis for this team because I feel that history can give us an idea of what we may expect this season. As you know more often than not its really hard to decipher what player will make a showing. This is why I like using trends to figure it out.
