Going the distance

By Stephen Tsai on June 22, 2011

Talk about a road trip. The past Saturday, defensive end Paipai Falemalu completed the 35-mile walk from Hauula to Diamond Head. He was among about 25 participating in the Hilina‘i Walk, a benefit for strength coach Tommy Heffernan’s daughter. Asked what it felt like, Falemalu said, “Hell.” Falemalu and Heffernan are cousins, and Falemalu said: “I wanted to show support. … I did it. Although it was just a walk, it was pretty tiring. My legs are still sore.” This […]

Balanced workout

By Stephen Tsai on June 21, 2011

x We’ve seen the routine: A pitcher pulls a hamstring, overcompensates, and then has a sore throwing arm. After undergoing labrum surgery to repair an injury to his right hip in 2009, defensive back Steven Christian knew he needed a balanced rehabilitation. His workouts included balancing on a board that was placed atop two deflated tennis balls. After that he advanced to medicine balls. On the board, he tried to see how many squats he could do. “Anything where I […]

Punt returner ailing

By Stephen Tsai on June 20, 2011

Samson Anguay said he has a tear in his right ACL. Despite the diagnosis, he said he is walking normally. At the end of the Warrior Bowl, UH head coach Greg McMackin said Anguay was the No. 1 punt returner. Anguy, a 2010 Campbell High graduate, was a part-time UH student during the 2010 fall semester. He joined the Warriors in January. He also is competing as a slotback. * * * * * UH release this photo of the […]

Future investment

By Stephen Tsai on June 19, 2011

Isaac Savaiinaea will be entering his junior year at Punahou, but he already has received two football offers. One is from a school in Indiana with an Irish-based theme. The other came today from UH. Savaiinaea is a 6-foot-2, 230-pound outside linebacker. He hopes to remain at that position, although observers envision him developing into a speedy defensive end. His father, Seli Savaiinaea, has been a Warrior fan since moving from Samoa in 1993. “I always go the games,” Seli […]

Salas reaches out

By Stephen Tsai on June 18, 2011

Former UH receiver Greg Salas has learned friendship has its limits. Salas was informed he could not accept any more friend requests after reaching Facebook’s maximum of 5,000 per account. “I don’t want to delete anybody,” Salas said. But he wanted to remain in contact with his friends, family and growing fan base. A few days ago, he started a Twitter account. “I want to get everybody on the Twitter before I have to start deleting,” Salas said. Twitter is […]

A true Warrior

By Stephen Tsai on June 17, 2011

There was little doubt Jaloni Williams was born to be a Warrior. “When he was born, we did some research, and the name (Jaloni) actually means ‘Warrior,’” Jon Williams said of the eldest of his four sons. “It’s a Swahili name.” Jaloni Williams, a 6-foot-1 cornerback, will be joining the Warriors in July. He is  a recent graduate of Chaminade College Preparatory, a high school in Chatsworth, Calif. Williams earned letters in football, basketball, baseball and track. He received scholarship […]

Received this text today from quarterback Tate Forcier: Hey, man. Yeah, I’m very interested in Hawaii. Looking to set up a visit as soon as possible.
