Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

SandBows lose 4-1 to FSU in AVCA semifinal

Fourth-seeded Hawaii lost to No. 3 Florida State 4-1 in the AVCA Collegiate Sand Championships semifinals Saturday morning in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Rainbow Wahine finish the season at 20-4. Their other losses came against the two teams playing in Saturday’s second semifinal: No. 1 USC and No. 2 Pepperdine. Pepperdine, seeking its second title in three years, defeated USC 3-2.
