Junior opposite Rado Parapunov put down a match-high 18 kills and No. 2 Hawaii swept No. 3 UC Irvine, 33-31, 25-19, 25-14 in a Big West men’s volleyball match tonight in Irvine, Calif.
The Rainbow Warriors (11-0, 1-0) set program records for consecutive sets-won (33) and sweeps (11); the previous marks both came in 2017.
Junior hitter Colton Cowell added 11 kills for Hawaii in the Bren Events Center. Parapunov and junior middle Patrick Gasman each were in on four of the Warriors’ six blocks, and sophomore libero Gage Worsley had 10 of the team’s 30 digs.
Joel Schneidmiller had nine kills for the Anteaters (13-3, 2-1).
The teams meet again on Saturday.

Set 2: UH wins 25-19
6:05: Rado Parapunov with an ace and Dalton Solbrig and Joe Worsley with a block to end it 25-19. Parapunov leads with 14 kills. UH hitting .353, UCI .234.
6:00: Hawaii has led pretty much the whole way. It was 19-15 but UCI has scored two straight, closes to 19-17. TO UH.
Set 1: UH wins 33-31
5:38: Ace by Colton Cowell ends it 33-31 on Hawaii’s sixth set point.
Hawaii’s consecutive sets-won at 31, 1 off tying school record.

Is there replay available? It would be sad if there isn’t…just an unacceptable move by the Big West.

I don’t think there was any replay challenge in this match. There was only one sideline camera. The camera was not even able to show the whole court. When one team served, the camera only show the serving team’s side and half of the receiving team’s side. Many time I was not even able to see who received the serve.
11. Too bad that ESPN won’t broadcast Hawaii matches so I can’t watch them live. But at least I can watch the mainland matches live.
As for the match itself, UH certainly dodged the bullet several times in the first set. Expect UCI to come back strong tomorrow. Glad that there will be a replay as I won’t have a chance to watch live tomorrow.

ESPN3 replay very, very jumpy, at least on my computer. But after watching the jumpy first point, I feel I have to watch the entire match. Fortunately, 5:00 p.m. tonight.
If your watching the ESPN 3 replay, start watching from the 19 minute mark. That’s when they fixed the streaming problems.
