Mentioned earlier that former BYU libero Jaylen Reyes (Kamehameha) in his first season as an assistant at Nebraska. Also on staff is former Hawaii setter Joby Ramos as a volunteer assistant.
Last time the final four was in Minneapolis was 1988. Texas defeated defending champion Hawaii.
How things have changed in 30 years.

A battle between 6’6″ Kathryn Plummer (OH)and 6’6 Audtianna Fitzsimmon (RS)
versus Foelcke 6’3″ and Sun 6’2″.
The Libero’s are the #1 Morgan Hentz (Libero-Stanford) #2 Maloney…they were the top2 Libero’s in the country. I think the difference may come from Tami Alade
(MB-Stanford) All American 2nd Team who had a team high 14 plus blocks vs BYU…i think Stanford’s “Big Block” will slow down Nebraska. It will come down to serving tough, great receive/pass, and least amount error
At least 9 or 10 of the total 12 starters
made the NCAA All-American Team from 1st to Honorable Mention

For the greater good, maybe it’s best if Illinois gets crowned the champs. If you want to “grow the sport”, it’s healthy to add to the short list of teams with national championships. Illinois could be the Spinal Tap of women’s volleyball. Future newbie national championship contenders would try, and Illinois fans could say, “This only goes up to 11.”
* John Cook seems to have alot of confidence in Jaylen Reyes.
*Watch Nebraska volleyball the whole season. Think Kenzie Maloney is overrated. Tita Akui is better.
* Didn’t realize the two Stanford girls were 6-6″
* If Nebraska can serve tough, it should be a great match.

Oregon and Washington have too much money thanks to FB. OU just moved into the #3 recruitment class w Kayvon. WSU was senior class laden. CO and UT are generally too cold. The LA schools will always be fine.
The LA schools (LB two,too) were a combined eight NCs before it truly all began in 1982. The nation was still split in 81. UH brought the D versus O fense. 30 for 30, Neil Everett/ Kaneshiro/ Shoji (w the fundraiser $).
Back-to-back went the ‘Bows. Deitre and a whole lot of all-star diggers. Joyce K went grandfathered from 1974 AIAW to scholarship funds. Thanks Asian congresswoman.
Duke Kahanamoku, propelling VB evolution from the sands of Waikiki, to the power sport as it is today, it all started in mainly Honolulu. Russ Rose can testify–before he retires soon. Texas’ Elliott had a foot in at UH; he’d say something for sure. Sharon Peterson was/is a SoCal link too.
It could be all put together to, by happenstance coincide w the Wahine’s national stamp. It’s going to be a looong time before Robyn is able to do very much. She’s trying- good for her- but Hawaii is too far removed from the continent. Get them on national T.V.
Wow, great national championship match, a clash of the titans really! We maybe looking at some future players of the USA National Team, though even the co-MVPs, Kathryn Plummer and Morgan Heinz have a lot of improving to do before they can be of international caliber. I’d sure like them to make the 2024 Olympic team as it would be too early for them to make the 2020 team just after graduating from Stanford. I’d also like to see Becky Foeke make the 2020 team if she chooses to continue playing. She sure gave it her all. She was marvelous. I also liked the great sportmanship of both teams when shaking hands, they both enthusiastically congratulated each other for a good game. All that confetti pouring down looked like the snow outside in Minnesota.
It was a great match. Fun watching, but the last call reversal on the out call to give Stanford a 13-10 lead left, I thought, a slightly tainted victory for Stanford. I didn’t think the video replay showed conclusive evidence to overturn the out call. Hats off to both teams. Both played wonderfully. Fun to see young players emerging as future stars – Holly Campbell from Stanford and Lauren Stivrins from Nebraska.
Even 3# Illinois got reverse sweep by #4. Proud of wahine-2018 how they finished strong and might reflect in this week final poll. Nevertheless it is pity to see wahine falls way behind from front runners (like in marathon). Few points to ponder for wahine-2019 if aiming to compete beyond Little West Conference. 1) Please give more emphasis on recruiting front row blockers (at least 6’2”) as front row players have dual role as hitter & BLOCKER. Coaching can not add HEIGHT to a mediocre player but everything else. Typical roof is made with 4-hands of at-least 6’2” players. Pairing up 6’5 with sub-standard blocker will not that helpful as water flows through lowest point. 2) Provide each player where they stand in their initial evaluation report in relevant skills (reflexes, quick legs, arm strength, elevation, hitting, blocking, digging, receiving techniques, etc) and set the targets to improve, and monitor progress regularly before season begins. 3) Wahine volleyball is one of the popular of sports in Hawaii. Keep all enthusiast in the loop (at least through this blog) through out the year with updates of program activities, and also by adding off-season monthly exhibition games (just a suggestion) at Hawaii High Schools of recent/active volleyball players. Letting ~two top players from two high schools to participate in each wahine exhibition game. It also helps new recruits to be assessed their progress regularly, while getting adjusted to meet expectations in progress report. 4) Instead picking starters for a match by watching warm-up, preparing squad for season /post-season and in fact for few years ahead. If a player is not suitable to take part in any game, it means massive recruiting blunder & coaching failure. All players in the squad deserve sense of pride playing for Hawaii. Strongly believe that Robyn-Angelica coaching team will build a top-16 team next year!

Very disappointing for such a ‘storied’ and ‘prestigious’ school…Someone thought it would never leave the locker room, but they should know better in this age of social media.
Hard not to think that most of ’em are too vs. U$C. Brats. It’s hard for people to accept it from them, also, because they win so much. Kind of like rubbing it in, sort of.

The appeal of women’s sports is better sportsmanship.
Only twice can I pinpoint instances of women’s athletic teams behaving badly against Hawaii that I personally witnessed.
UCLA softball. (Throwing second place trophy in trash can.)
Fresno State basketball. (Tripping a player. Fouling hard. Not shaking hands.)
Okay you got me started on UCLA softball, the team I dislike the most because 1) an incident where the UCLA 1st baseman stood on the first base line to tag out the Hawaii batter and instead of tagging the back or butt of the now runner, hit-tagged the Hawaii player in the face-head, causing an injury, and 2) UCLA pitchers consistently revert to illegal pitches when looking for a 3rd strike. What gets me is that the illegal pitch is never called by the plate umpire. I don’t care if the Wahine ever play the Bruins again, but I see they’ve been invited to the 2019 Hawaii Paradise Classic and play the Wahine on Feb 8.
Umpires sure loved to pick on Kaia Parnaby.
I remember their last regional on the UW campus, the home plate umpire called something like three consecutive illegal pitches in a row.
They picked on Parnaby at home, too.
And UCLA softball invented the one and done player.
Loie Kesterson was nursing a 1-0 lead against in the bottom of the seventh.
Two outs.
An outfielder who shall remain nameless, dropped the third out.
UCLA won in extra innings.
Kesterson never recovered. I think she would have had a different career if that catch was made. She would have finished up her eligibility with Hawaii.

16. The worst example was the 2002(?) Regional Semis LBSU vs. Hawaii in Hawaii. The LBSU team with Tara-Crosse Battle, Tayyeba Hanneff…As the LBSU players went the through the handshake line, one of the players purposely twisted the already bandaged thumb of Jessica sudduth…So glad when that match ended on a campfire defense with all 5 LBSU players standing in a circle, waiting for someone to ‘pickup the marshmallow (ball) with their ‘cookie’ (hands)’. I think Brian G. soiled himself so badly, he needed a diaper change even before leaving the court…
Cappie, now I’m interested to know who made that error. I went as far as Googling the game story, but the one I found just says “an outfielder”.
22. Tara Cross-Battle wasn’t on that team, she was LBSU ’89(?). The player you that twisted Sudduth’s thumb was Cheryl Weaver. She was a very physical and dynamic middle blocker. That was a very exciting match.
Not sure where softball came into all this.
